I took my friends from Toronto to Tomo hoping to impress them with some good quality food and nice ambience in byward market. I have to say, we were very disappointed. I remembered food here being tasty and refreshing last time I visited but this time is simply average. What upsetted us more was the bartender didn't wear mask the whole time, his mask was hanging under his chin through the night. We have been visiting restaurants time to time and we did notice sometime staffs would take their masks behind the bar to sip some water or have a break, given the 2m distance and staffs immediately put the mask back on we were never too concerned. But at Tomo, the bartender was wearing mask on the chin THE WHOLE TIME. His nose and mouth were never covered. We ordered a sake to share but after we saw him preparing other customers cocktails, pouring drinks, serving food without putting his mask on properly, we decided not to order anything from the bar. Moreover, he was sticking his head to those customers sitting at the bar when he couldn't hear them clearly, the distance between him and the customers would not be more than 2m and no one was wearing masks after the customers sat down at the bar. I would not go back to Tomo ever, food taste and quality aside, as a restaurant, health and safety should be the priority. Restaurant should create a safe environment for customers to dine in. If not, don't bother to accept dine in customers and stick to takeout. Even if everyone was fully vaccinated at the scene, a food handler should know better than wearing mask like a decoration with no sense of health and safety.

Below average food. Had chicken fried rice, which was ok but not worth the price. One of the sushi rolls was not fresh but the server took it away and didn't charge us. Two stars for the food. But compliments to the service and ambience.

BEST sushi in Ottawa so far! We’ve tried so many places and most of them are so hit and miss with a lot of rolls tasting similar but not at Tomo! Even though some showed similar ingredients, they tasted so different and bloody delicious! Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t authentic Japanese sushi, but more a fusion blend of amazing flavours! Between three of us, we had 9 rolls, couldn’t get enough! Great drinks too and good service! Great vibe!!!! Love this place and will definitely go back and be ordering in from! Forgot to mention that the pork belly bao was terrible - wouldn’t recommend, stick to the sushi!

Our main sushi place we go to while in Ottawa. Service is always good and sushi even better. You get more fish than rice in your rolls for a better price. And it tastes better. We also always got seats without reservations but don’t hold me to that fir yourself. Recommend.

Pretty impressed for a spot on Clarence. The food and quality was great and prices were good. Service was fast and seating is plentiful out in the patio. Great place to go especially during the summer time. Would highly recommend for their sushi.

I don’t have anything to say but amazing. I went for a birthday dinner for my gf and we splurged, we got the wagyu, aburi sushi platter, the pad Thai, and a few rolls. The Wagyu was phenomenal, the pad Thai was great. The sushi flavour wise was amazing however the rolls were a bit loose. The ambiance was great and the staff were friendly.

Very delicious meals. The waiting time was quick, in less than 15 minutes all dishes were served. I loved the grilled squid, tomo chicken and the fried rice.

One of the best sushi places we’ve ever been to. True culinary work of art - worth every penny. Excellent service. Fun, lively atmosphere. So grateful they were able to find us a table on a busy Saturday night! What an experience. Thank you!

Had a really great meal! It was a chilly fall day and their warm Sake hit the spot, the spicy squid goes so well with it! Tomo rolls were yummy too! Staff were attentive and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.

I expect more Japanese dishes option but it turned out it is more of a Japanese fusion pub with limited options of food. However, the food quality was not bad. Their beef tataki was decent. But their a other octopus carpaccio dish was prepared very similar to the beef tataki. Their Bao (bun) was good although not very Japanese. Their fried rice was surprisingly very good although not Japanese. The rice was not soggy and it was fried some some flavourful taste (I was guessing maybe butter or duck fat). Their squid tastes good. It was not over grilled or hard to bite. I always enjoy this dish. Sushi they only have Maki roll and sashimi is only available during weekend (I did not try). Maki roll was just very ordinary. Nothing surprising but not bad. But I will not come back for their Maki. They do not serve dessert (it is a pub anyway)

This place is nice - it’s not really an authentic sushi place, it felt more like a fusion/asian inspired place. Regardless, the fish was really fresh. Both the spicy salmon and spicy tuna had actual chunks of tuna and salmon instead of it being chopped up (like most restaurants do) with spicy mayo sauce. The vibes here were really chill, felt like a laid back bar where people can come and chill together as a group. I loved the interior, it was pretty dim but nice and relaxing. Our server, Erika was amazing and friendly. Super attentive and talked to us alot! We really liked that. Thank you Erika!! I would recommend this spot!

Quaint little sushi spot in the Market! I definitely think the quality at Tomo is much higher than the average Japanese fare, though it doesn’t rival the likes of Suisha or KaTO and is a bit on the expensive side. However, I highly recommend the tataki — it might be my favourite that I’ve tried anywhere in the city ! It’s the perfect amount of rich and savoury, combined with the tart sweetness of their ponzu sauce and garnishments. I’d be glad to come back to Tomo again in the future to try out more of their menu.

Good but definitely not the best (coming from someone who’s had amazing sushi around the world lol) I loved the miso soup. I would also recommend the veggie gyoza; they were packed with flavour. The sushi was hit or miss. The spicy tuna was very flavorless, do not recommend. The rest were good but not the best

Rolls were exceptional and the squid was top notch! The restaurant itself had a great atmosphere for a night out with a few friends with drinks. Don't drink the sake on your table cause it's actually soy sauce! Service was also exceptional as the waitress was attentive to all our needs.

I randomly went in for a late dinner by myself tonight and I thought it was very decent. I had the grilled squid and the fried chicken and have no complaints. The staff was very nice and served me well.

food is good but nothing special, a lot of the dishes were very bland and very underwhelming. extremely expensive for what you get. our server was so nice but because of how understaffed they are, at least from how it seemed, the service wasn’t good. this has nothing to do with the servers, it has to do with the management. our server was very sweet and tried to be as attentive as possible but it just wasn’t possible as i noticed she was serving at least 1/3 of the whole restaurant, and it was completely packed. it was a friday night, management should know to put more servers on instead of having their servers run around non stop unable to give good service because they have to attend to so many people. i feel bad for the servers because it was obvious that if they were able to focus on less tables, they would have been able to provide better service. it took us 30 minutes to even be able to ask for the bill, after being long done our meals. water wasn’t filled once, we only had 2 chopsticks for 4 people, etc. once again it’s not their fault, it’s the managements fault. once again food was “good” but i wouldn’t go back. truly nothing special and crazy prices for what you receive. drinks are also extremely mediocre, at best. the restaurant decor was nice, and it seemed clean from what i saw. overall, definitely not a place i’d recommend to others as im sure there’s much better places to get sushi/japanese fusion in the area, and probably at a better price.

When I walked in loved the art work on the walls and love how they designed the place. The server was very friendly and helpful. She was able to suggest two thing that ended up being really good. The wonton soup had great flavor and was perfect on a rainy day.(comfort food feeling) The sushi dish was delicious. The shrimp and beef was paired well

BEST SUSHI I’ve had here in Ottawa! I’m not a fan of sushi but started to love it because of this place! Recommend it 10/10 I love their Tomo Fried Chicken and Spicy Shrimp Tempura Rolls plus their Mai Tai Punch cocktail!

Went to TOMO for the first time in person after having a really great experience with their takeout. The atmosphere and aesthetic of the restaurant were beautiful. We went in the evening so the sun had already set and they had tea lights on every table for a nice, romantic night. Our server, Tyler, was super friendly and took very good care of us. He even had wonderful suggestions for getting dessert in the market. The food presentation was phenomenal and the food was so fresh, even the soy sauce and wasabi seemed high end. Definitely the best place for sushi in Ottawa. Also, the anime printed bathroom was a nice touch for creating a very “instagramable” moment. 10/10 would recommend to friends.

Food is delicious. Too bad they're never open and cancel orders after 25 minutes. To management: you've done it to me 9 times, so your excuse about yesterday is, at best, one justifiable closure.

First time eating here. Food was great and the service was quick. The waitresses were very pleasant. We ordered several plates of rolls and they were very fresh. Presentation was excellent. Prices are good too.
