waited 8+ hours to be admitted despite being pregnant and in starvation and dehydrated due to not being able to keep any food or fluids down. my nurse changed four times and they did not communicate to each other what was happening. 7 weeks pregnant with abdominal pain, nausea, and spotting and they just send me home with some anti-nausea meds… only for the pain and spotting to get worse. i also got sent for an x-ray only to find out the x-ray team was not aware of the pregnancy. literally awful awful treatment you feel ignored and just made to feel stupid for literally asking them to do their jobs, but two of my nurses were super nice.

Great patient care, I was in for a day surgery, and released quickly, which I am glad for. Everyone was kind patient friendly and informative at each step of the way from intake, surgical prep, surgeon consultation and procedure, recovery and finally discharge.

I waited almost a year for my endicrology appointment. I arrived at 3:15pm. Was interviewed by a student for over an hour with a list of questions she had drafted on a piece of paper. The doctor arrived at 5pm to simply say she saw some tests results i did from October 2018, so I was good to go. I took time off my work and travelled there through the biggest snow storm. Why give me an appointment if she was going to base her decision based on data from 6 months ago? Why She never offered to help look into my existing issues, I was the last person to leave the establishment and she was with me for 5 minutes. I say stick to apple tree, they would show more concern for your health than Riverside. This is my second time where I felt I was only brought in for a student to practice on me. I got zero help.

A very professional and kind doctor, courteous staff, perfect timing of the procedure. The only reason I am not rating my experience with 5 stars is my concern regarding a behavior of the nurse that was assigned to me. In a middle of the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic, this nurse, sitting in front of the computer, half a meter or less from my bed, had her nose uncovered. When kindly asked to cover the nose, she said that she has to breathe and will cover it when she turns her head from the computer towards me. After finishing inserting the needle in my vein, the nurse moved to attend to another patient and performed the same procedure without sterilizing her hands. The nurse was nice and polite but in my opinion did not follow the rules and made me feel uneasy about my visit at the hospital.

This is a terribly run hospital. My son was left writhing in pain on the floor because they said they didn't have any beds. The parking lot was half empty and the waiting room was almost empty. Someone finally gave him a sheet to lie on, but still on the floor. I was brought in by ambulance for possible heart attack and they completely ignored me. I was there for 3 hours and still not seen by doctor. The waiting room was completely empty. If I ever have a choice, I will never go there again. A terrible waste of time.

Dr. Jarmuske performed an awful surgery on me. I go back in for a revision, and he makes a resident do it (did not even ask me if I wanted resident to perform on me). Resident has no idea what he is doing - no communication - leaves me halfway through the procedure only to notify me proper equipment is missing. Resident leaves again, saying nothing. I wait almost 30 minutes before checking in the hallway - no one. I go to find someone and no one is around, so I leave. I leave with surgery site looking even worse than before. Horrible, horrible doctor. If you search him up, he has botched surgeries before. He will surely have his medical license revoked. Awful.

I have been visiting the hospital in recent months due to an eye infection. I was referred to this hospital by my local optometrist. Overall, I have received very good care and treatment from the resident doctors, nurses and other hospital staff. They are mostly very caring. The reception also handles calls with very little waiting time during their office hours. The hospital premises are well connected with public transport, which is truly a blessing in harsh winter. Overall, the premises are neat and clean. On the main level, there is also a pharmacy store and a coffee shop.

I came in with my husband who was badly injured, in severe pain & could not see well. The guy at the front desk was extremely rude and started yelling at my face when I asked if I could help my husband find a seat. I completely understand rules but seeing older other people being accompanied by their partners while he yelled in my face and even got the attention from the people in the entrance area was not a pleasant experience especially when your husband is in severe pain & needs help. Sorry but this is very poor customer service even for a hospital. I am very disappointed

Was referred here by my family doctor for Thyroid ultrasound. Didn’t even know this place still operated. I did blood work same morning at the laboratory when they booked me in for ultrasound. Everyone was very friendly and so efficient at the bloodwork and ultrasound. Thank you for making a worrisome experience, pleasant.

TOH together with lab services, the OGI and Innomar clinics have provided outstanding care to my son. I am so impressed by the coordination and seamless communication between these large and complex organization arranging testing, coordinating timely results to allow follow up treatments to proceed....not a step or communication was missed....even during the depth of summer when invariably someone is likely to be on vacation....I wont try to name them all because I'll someone....but they who they are and I am forever grateful to all of you.

NOT AN EMERGENCY ROOM HOSPITAL! I was turned away when I needed stiches because I didn't know that. Go to the main campus nearby if you need an emergency room.

I watched a staff person in the blood clinic exhibit such kindness and caring this morning to an elderly man who was in the wrong place. Her patience and genuine compassion shone. Her name sounded something like Henri. She is an angel with great professionalism.

One of younger ladies at blood test unit reception was less than courteous. Not impressed. If interacting with public, or anyone really, being polite is basic. I trusted the staff knew what they were doing. Don't blame clients for hospital mixups.

Was told by my campus GP that he would refer me to the cardiac department of this hospital due to a potential genetic heart condition at just the age of 19. Understandable. Told me to call in a month and ask the status of my referral in case the hospital did not call me first to book my appointment. Understandable. Hospital never called, so I called, and they told me they would call back within a few minutes (so they could go check the database). They never did. I call back and nobody would answer. Eventually they declined my referral due to me not answering the phone and booking an appointment. Had to re-send the referral from the campus GP receptionist. Waited a few weeks, hospital never called, asked the status of my referral, and the whole process REPEATED. I live eight hours away in my home town for the summer, so I'm not able to go in person at the moment. Awesome to know that I may potentially have genetic heart issues and not even receive proper treatment. And I am only allowed to go to this hospital for some reason ??????? Thanks Ottawa Riverside Hospital! Lovin the attitude!

I do not like to leave poor reviews, however the lab department at this hospital keeps getting worse. I am here pretty frequently. In short: make sure to be aware of the tests you need and the doctor it is coming from - advocate for yourself. Ask them to confirm the tests, better safe than sorry. My family doctor wants to stay informed on results, she hadn't been receiving them when I asked I was told I have my chart and can provide it to them. I dont get paid to do that, my taxes pay you to do it. The communication between hospitals and family medicine is terrible, applies to riverside and general. Parking is expensive, but that is everywhere. The wait times can be quite long, come with a book and time to spare. No problems with the building itself. My problem is specifically with the lab service, they have gotten my tests wrong the last few times! That is unacceptable, I am very aware of what I need so I have been correcting them when they go over my health card information before the blood draw, however even one slipped by me. It is very concerning that these kinds of errors are being made (repeatedly), these tests could be life or death for someone. Patient could be older or have an impairment and not know to catch the errors. As a patient, I should not have to correct them every time. Either the wrong label is printed for the wrong test or it is from the wrong doctor! That is not acceptable in my opinion. If the online system is confusing them, find a better system. The people who've drawn my blood have typically been friendly, no complaints there. However some of the people I've encountered at the front desk don't acknowledge you waiting in line half the time. It takes 1 seconds to say "be with you in a moment" instead, you could wait 10minutes and no one will look at you. I try to be understanding, maybe they are stressed and short-staffed but the repeated mistakes are not ok. But, this is what public funded care gets you! I would prefer to pay money to get tests done and have proper, correct care than this ohip funded system with horrible wait times and constant mistakes.

Dissapointed in the endocrinology unit. Don't make you feel like a valued patient, doctor maybe spends 5 minutes with you if you are lucky... This part of the hospital always incurs delays as the day goes on. Make an appointment at 9:00am, will go in at 9:00am. Your appointment is at 3:00pm? You won't go in until 4:00pm minimum. Depressing.

I recently had to take my father to the kidney care centre here, and my experience could not have been any better! Staff were professional, efficient, courteous, and caring. The place is like a well oiled machine, with feelings. Needless to say, I was impressed. With all the negative publicity regarding the health care system in this country/province, the kidney care centre at the riverside campus deserves every accolade it gets!

I went in for Lithotripsy procedure and had the best ask around care that I've ever received. Darcy, Jessica and Brigitte were absolutely awesome. They explained my procedure to the fullest and were happy and smiling (even under the masks). For this place to be so short staffed and what seems to be overrun their whole entire team had a rally of the troops and got it done. Thanks again for your treatment and hospitality.

The Ottawa Hospital performs Medical Assistance In Dying, The Ottawa Hospital does not speak out against these practices. It willingly performs murderous procedures. Because of the lawyers it is called something else. The govt will be expanding into psychiatric patients very soon regarding MAID. Many faith based facilities refuse to comply with these deadly acts of violence against their own patients.

Went to emergency with my husband having chest pains and blood pressure of 210/113 explained that he had a heart attack 6 months previous and is having the same symptoms we went through triage and they told us to sit in the waiting room till he is called! AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER we are still sitting in the waiting room thankfully it was not an actual heart attack and my husband started feeling better and the symptoms were going away so we ended up leaving. If he was having a heart attack he could have been dead before they even brought him in! Disgusting!!! Thank god we dont live in Ottawa and were just visiting. Our hospital at home is incredible, if you come in chest pains you are brought in immediately .

A member of my family had minor surgery today, we been told that we have to be there at 6:30 am. We were there just before that, we’ve been told that the survey only takes half hours to 45 minutes, with the recovery time give and take 4 hours the nurse said. Less than 7 hours later we are still in the hospital. But make the waits easy, the nurses were friendly( thank you.) 🙏

Staff doesn't update the ticket number display to let the patient know it's their turn. I've noticed this every time I take my dad to do blood work. I spoke to staff member and she said that their priority is taking blood and not updating the display. Very silly reason and staff is quite rude at times. Unfortunate that our health system hire this low caliber of people.

My senior father is high risk for COVID. He recently had a CT scan at the Riverside. When booking the appointment on the general line, Cheryl was so friendly and helpful. She answered all our questions and was very reassuring in addressing the needs of my father. At his CT scan, Natalie at the Riverside was great -- so informative and efficient. We appreciate the care and concern both Cheryl and Natalie showed in dealing with a senior patient.

Was scheduled for an x-ray on a Friday afternoon. Registration was quick & efficient. X-ray was done quickly and at my appointment time. Best of all....when the registration lady noticed that I was also scheduled for a scan imaging on the following Monday, she made a call, and got the scan moved to right after my current x-ray. Top notch! Her kindness saved me time, plus the additional cab fare for a second trip to the hospital.

The Riverside Campus location is well maintained and has very professional and respectful staff. In particular, my experience with the department of Foustanellas Endocrine and Diabetes Centre has been very positive. The Doctors and medical staffs' level of attention to detail, expertise, dedication, and genuine care for their patients deserves recognition. As well, the facilities are well maintained, clean, and creates a welcoming environment for patients. Thank you for the excellent healthcare services that you provide and keep up the awesome work!

Doctors and nurses on the fifth floor ore very nice. But I had a biopsy on my kidney December 12th. It is not January 18th. Still don't have the full report. It's stressing not knowing what treatment I'll be getting. When I had the procedure, was told around 2 weeks.. I know it was close to Christmas but If your going to do a biopsy on something serious, don't leave the patient hanging. Without an explanation.

The hospital can spend how much on a GIANT poster "thanking" the 'front line workers', but their actions are very different from the public propaganda piece. They hired copious amounts of "contractors" (staff. They hired staff under the guise of a different word) because they didn't have to treat them humanely at all. Those people were security, cleaning, PSWs, nurses... all working for the hospital - having to wait around to check their phones hourly to see if they can get more shifts because they were all hired part time (no need for any benefits that way), despite a CONSTANT need for more staff -- because they were constantly being forced off of work after 'testing positive' or 'being in contact with a case'...not that the contract workers were given paid sick leave (or worse, they weren't even sick). Covidian propaganda at its grossest. You know why people kept on doomsday preaching about the health care system collapsing? because the healthcare system doesn't care about people at all, the adminstrators and publicists only care about creating the ILLUSION of caring. And they'll waste their money on that instead of just doing their jobs. Try paying the people who are actually working instead of advertisement about how they're doing their jobs without pay or security. And hiring them full time so they aren't living in a constant stressbowl of limbo wondering they will have work tomorrow and/or worrying that they might be without pay for weeks on end. Shame on the hospital system. Shame on this hospital's director specifically. Shame on the Canadians who bought the propaganda.

I had to attend to a test at the Endoscopy unit of Riverside Hospital last week. I must mention the professional, respectful and Kind heartedness of the nursing staff and the doctor who attended to my test. A nurse by the name of Arian. had to be mentioned who was so understanding of my frightfulness of the procedure and gave me the assurance that it was a very simple and painless operation. Nurses of this caliber are rear to find at this age and time. Its an asset to the hospital to keep such staff members. Good luck to all staff at Riverside Hospital

I’ve usually had great service at this campus of The Ottawa Hospital. I’m am usually there every 3-4 months in the endocrinology unit. Most staff are courteous and efficient but, like every other place, you run into some who are having a bad. Overall, the good/helpful people greatly outweigh the bad. Wait times are comparable to other hospitals in the city. Really easy to get to by transit or bike. As with most buildings in this city it could use some renovation. Not sure why people are complaining about poor service when seeking emergency medical treatment - signs posted at every entrance/exit of the hospital clearly state there is no emergency department at the Riverside Campus and directs people to the General or Civic campus.

Most of the staff I encountered there are kind, patient and willing to help. Overall mostly great people. I would give the hospital a four. I only gave it three stars because my last nurse in OR put me at risk overulling clear safety information I gave her and also violated my privacy, in addition to OR desk staff gossiping about my runny makeup "after surgery"... I know some women are jealous gossips but this doesn't belong in health care neither does the old man that laughed with them and then kept entering my room to try and see for himself. Last thing I needed after waking up in shock from a procedure while on anesthesia, in pain, alone and nauseous. P.S even when you have appointments most of time there, will be spent in waiting rooms.
