I had an amazing experience at this store. Marti was very kind, and accommodating. Very manager material. Went above and beyond my expectations for customer service. She made me feel welcome and was quick to assist me with getting things from cabinets. The store itself is beautiful but the staff, Marti and Taylor made it especially that much more. I work at a crystal/holistic store in Windsor, and wished they were my coworkers, Marti would make an amazing manager at our store. The best crystal/gem shop I've been in, don't tell my boss.

So let me just start by saying the store was amazing! The one worker who was present in the store however was not. She is why I gave 3 stars and not 5. My girlfriend and I were talked down to and made to feel like we didn’t know what we were talking about or had no prior knowledge in the subject. Now that could be ignored, but what couldn’t be ignored was the constant presence of this worker. They felt the need to be constantly present even though there were other customers in the store. Might I also add that my girlfriend and I look like very normal people. We had nice clothes on and didn’t appear to be thieves. That being said it sure felt as though we were being followed and watched very closely and that I do not like. I still spent over 80$ at this location and do plan on returning. I just hope this worker learns basic human interaction skills otherwise business will suffer. (Ps I wish I remembered the woman’s name but I didn’t catch it, trust me if you speak with her you’ll know if it’s her) Edit -> after reading more of the reviews for this business I’ve come to the conclusion that a specific cashier if not all of them have treated customers poorly. This now comes down to management. Ive read almost all of the responses “from the owner” on the reviews and it doesn’t seem like you’re acknowledging the real issue here. You’ve stated over and over again how you apologize for the issue or the “personality conflict”. However I don’t think it’s the customers issue. I believe if 10 or more customers are taking the valuable time out of their days to write detailed reviews about their awful experience with YOUR STAFF, NOT YOUR STORE then there must be an issue with the staff member(s). I am still leaving my review at 3 stars because the experience wasn’t horrible for myself. That being said I do think you should consider discussing with your employee(s) social etiquette. You have camera systems in the establishment. There’s no need to be harassing your guests. There’s a fine line between being helpful, and being a nuisance. On a final positive note your prices are great. I plan on returning very soon, hopefully to a better social interaction.

Terrible customer service. Went here with a friend today. Was really happy with the organization and layout of the store however the customer service was atrocious. At the beginning of my time here at Masala, I asked a question about a specific crystal and the customer representative at the time was extremely unwelcoming and it felt like I was being a nuisance. The entire time we were being uncomfortably followed around the store - the worker even went as far to stock ONE item on a display that we were looking at and she rudely pushed us out of the way multiple times. She asked us where we were from 3 times. Once a little bit after arrival, a second time in the middle when we asked to look at earrings in a display case, and a final THIRD time at the cash. We said the same thing every time. Not sure if it was meant to be small talk or condescending but it is a little weird to ask 3 times where a customer is from when the entire time you are being unwelcoming and rude. The cherry on top of our visit was when she very rudely asked us to use baskets - it was a shout from across the store and sounded more like a "threat" than a suggestion. Customer representative is unwelcoming and rude. Hard to believe that a store that sells crystals for "health and wellness" has such terrible vibes. I've been to other crystal shops in the Ottawa area and always feel so welcomed and comfortable shopping around - would not recommend to anyone who is a regular consumer of spiritual/health and wellness goods.

I am an enthusiastic witchy gemstone owner/collector and I love this shop! Super cute, and in a great location. Most likely one of the best gem shops I have been to so far! The prices are great, the shop is beautiful and I was overwhelmed by choice (in the best way possible!). I love that all of the gems were organized/ marked with either the name or healing properties! Definitely helps with choice knowing what gems do. I love the display cases with amethyst, rose quartz, angel aura, amber ect. Prices vary from 1$-600$+ depending on what you get, from the littlest gem to massive geodes. They have bracelets, earrings, necklaces and jade rollers. I appreciated the different shapes the gems came in (egg, ball, little hearts, big hearts.) and the display pieces you can purchase separately for various items! I know there was a previous review about customer service and wait time but I can assure you both were top notch. The woman working was very on top of how many customers could enter at a time, and always made it work being transparent with how many she could take in. (I also work in customer service, so I’m very understanding and patient with other customer service workers haha!) She was super sweet and reserved, which I appreciate in gem shops. For me, I need my time to feel the energy with gemstones and to concentrate while doing so. I honestly appreciate the quiet in the shop! I felt so bad for dropping a hematite ring, bought it anyways and she apologized that it broke. Super sweet woman :) I didn’t have any questions, but you could tell she was knowledgeable when others asked her questions. She was right beside them helping them out. She also was very careful to ask how we were paying, as her tap was acting up. I hope this gem shop continues to thrive, and I will absolutely be back! Keep it up Masala!! :) <3

I've shopped at Masala a few times over the last few weeks and recieved excellent customer service each time. Their staff is knowledgeable and will take the time to help you find what you're looking for. Special shoutout to the friendly brunette who was working there 2 Saturdays ago - she helped me find the crystals I was looking for and was very patient when I compared all of the crystal animal carvings to find the cutest one (I picked a jade turtle 🐢, highly recommend)

This is a lovely store. I checked out Masala while visiting Ottawa and I will not hesitate to return when I’m in the area again. The staff were super kind and helpful! Everything is priced reasonably and the store itself is organized quite nicely. Overall it is a really warm and inviting atmosphere to shop in. 10/10 would recommend! 👼🏻🔮

If I could rate this store 10 stars I would! The staff is AMAZING. So helpful and so kind, they always remember their repeat customers and make the shopping experience so much easier and more enjoyable. This was the first and only crystal shop I’ve ever visited. When I first started shopping there I didn’t know much about the products and the staff were so, so helpful without being condescending, which is huge in any market. Crazy selection and variety of products as well, you can always find what you’re looking for! If you are in the Ottawa area GO TO THIS STORE! You will not be disappointed:)

Absolutely lovely customer service! The two young girls at the till, Jade and Marti I believe were super helpful! I've seen other reviews about this place having bad customer service so I was a little wary about it but I took the chance and had an excellent time. Highly recommend going in when the colored hair person is working with the other one.

The shop is amazing, is the greatest gem shop we've ever been. The girls are so lovely. They have wonderful and unique pieces, and it's also really cheap. If you thinking about going to Ottawa surely you must visit this shop. Really compliments to the owner and also to the girls that work in the shop. That's really gorgeous!!! ps: just a little suggestion, it would be very nice if you open an online shop, so you can buy not only from Ottawa :)

One of my favourite stores in the Byward Market. Items are priced fairly and have wonderful jewelry. Staff are super nice! Jade and Marti helped me pick out a graduation present for my boyfriend, and help me pick out dainty rings. I’ve only had great experiences with the staff. Overall a great experience! I personally love browsing through the rings and small pendants.

I wish they had this one in Toronto. Such affordable prices for so much! This will be my crystal spot whenever I come to Ottawa. I wish I could have spent longer at this spot but unfortunately I had to go somewhere. But if I had stayed, I would have spent a lot more money at this place because of how affordable and cute the things were. The cashier was also very friendly :)

They have a very cool selection of crystals and rocks! Most of it is tumbled or carved, but they do have a small selection of uncut pieces. It's a great spot for the rock lover in your life!

These are the best prices you’ll EVER find in Ottawa ❤️ I received a few birthday gifts from this shop last year, and have visited myself twice since then. The only downside is I wish they had a slightly larger tumbled stones section. I always have to be extra careful with picking up stones to look at as I don’t want to drop them, and having bigger containers for each would be very helpful. Although I understand it’s a small shop! I’ve had some great finds here and will definitely come back when I’m in town. Edit: I’ve just been reading some of the negative reviews and would like to share my (positive) experience. After walking in my sister and I were politely greeted by the worker behind the counter. She told us to let her know if we had questions/concerns or to see anything behind the glass, and then left us be. As someone who doesn’t like much confrontation, I really appreciate this from workers. Checkout was very smooth. We were offered a bag and my item was wrapped up in some tissue paper to protect it. So satisfied with my experience!!

I sought for gems to expand my tarot, my energy but most importantly my rockhounding hobby. This place if I were to say anything can give you some collectible rocks at a pretty good price with some astounding variety. This store presents crystals and minerals in a way that'll make you feel proud to be made of the same big bang that made these tantalizing synthesis's of elements. Definitely worth checking out if your a rockhound, tarot practitioner or someone who just loves shiny things (I surprised a dragon hasn't tried stealing this store).

The store has an amazing selection and great prices, and the staff member I talked to (I think her name was Margie?) was so friendly and knowledgeable. She helped me find exactly what I wanted. I will definitely be going back

This was a great store! I loved all the crystals inside and had a great time looking around. Although some of the prices for smaller crystals are higher than most shops, the larger towers and spheres are generally priced lower than most shops. The organisation is very well done as it doesn't feel like i'm in a hoarders house, but it also doesn't feel like an overly organised as if you're in a Walmart. There's a really nice atmosphere, and despite the reviews left by others, my experience was definitely not rushed, and the service was great. Cashier was very nice and wrapped up my crystals with care. I could use all my money here so i would recommend you give yourself a budget before visiting Masala, because their crystals are so beautiful its hard to resist spending all your money, and you definitely don't want to bankrupt yourself on shiny rocks, even if they're to die for.

I don’t usually post reviews but I found the customer service reason enough to post. I really love this store and the prices are great, and every time I have come in the past I have had great customer experiences. Recently, though, I found the cashier extremely rude; snarky remarks, dirty looks, and was watching the group as if we were stealing. I get that people have bad days, and that might be the case, but I still found it very unsettling. Love the products though!

Even though there are some bad reviews about this store before mine, I had a completely different experience here. I don’t know the name of the lady that worked here but she had blonde hair and blue/green eyes and had jeans on. She was unbelievably kind and everything good in a cashier/sales person. She tended to my every need, listened to me, and I felt her genuine and beautiful kind presence. She took her time to understand which crystals I wanted and put effort into helping me understand myself and what I needed. She also gave me advice on what to do to feel better. She was a wonderful woman who managed to deal with all the customers in the store at the same time, never made me feel rushed or pressured. Her kind and loving attitude were incredible and I felt her beautiful spirit as she spoke. The store itself is mesmerizing and well organized. One of the most beautiful crystal stores out there. The vibe was amazing and super healing. I had a very good experience.

Today I went for the very first time and it was absolutely amazing the vibes were good the Crystal's are amazing quality the owners are so nice and helpful overall amazing service and I love what I got all 6 items thanks so much for the awesome service !!!!

Perfect place for anyone who loves or interested in crystals, minerals and gems. Store has huge variety and selection. However, the staff is BEYOND slow, it took roughly 20-30 minutes to pay for my selection, and with limited number of people allowed in store you might have to wait outside for some time.

Insanely wide selection of crystals at amazing prices, the staff was super helpful even with me asking for so many different cases to be opened and closed throughout my visit. I am excited to return and to build my collection with more amazing stones from this store

Amazing selection and such friendly and knowledgeable staff! The cashier I spoke to knew where the products were sourced from and was honest about what causes hematite rings to break and the difference between natural citrine and heated amethyst, which I think is really important. The crystals are absolutely beautiful, definitely something to be found for everyone!
