Best place to walk all year round; you go through areas of beautiful trees and parks, city scapes and the historical bridges and buildings of Ottawa. In winter it is magical with a different perspective. All the beauty of the canal from the waterway. Beavertails and hot chocolate make this one of our annual traditions. My favourite time to skate is sunset and evenings. Gives it such a beautiful glow. #winter #skating #winteractivity

Always a fascinating spot with a great view of the Ottawa river and locks. You can spends hours here watching the boats go up and down the locks which is always really cool. Also has a nice walking / bicycle path that heads along the river πŸ‘πŸΌ

One of the most touristic places in Ottawa. Even though now the canal seems to dried out, the ambience is still there. For morning/evening strolls, this place is amazing to say thee least.

Some people feel that Ottawa is a boring capital city. I beg to differ. It might not be all that pleasant in the cold winter but overall I think it has many beautiful things. The Rideau Canal is an attractive landmark. It goes for miles and it’s different along the way. Many beautiful spots to enjoy. It’s most pleasant in the downtown area where it connects to the Ottawa River. I never get bored with it. πŸ‘πŸ˜Ž

Beautiful spot for a stroll. Great place to see the changing of the leaves as it reflects the water in the canal. In the winter, the canal turns into a skating rink where people can skate for miles. Wonderful spot to take photos of the reflections and just mindlessly walk around without worrying about traffic.

We walked the Rideau trail and sailed the canal with the cruise electric boat during our visit in Ottawa, it was amazing experience. It was mid October and the nature was colourful and beautiful. Everywhere clean and nice people and community walking around.

We drove two hours from montreal and it was well worth it. It’s a well maintained ice skating rink (largest in the world). There spots to grab a hot beverage or some snacks along the way. About 8 km long.

Rideau canal is one of ottawas gems. Whether in the summer or winter, you always have something to do in the water - skating, kayaking you name it. They have a brilliant portage system in the summer to bring your kayaks. In the winter, the skating rink is beautiful and well maintained with several locations to tie your skates, leave your boots, get hot chocolates and beaver tails on the way and enjoy the scenic views of Ottawa. An absolute must go!

Amazing scenic trail to walk along in Ottawa. You get a river view and you can also see the Parliament. Very peaceful and not much people at the time I went.

Spectacular Canal where you can go for long walks beside the lake. Great for tourists and locals. For sports fans, ice skating is an option for free on the lake during specific months in winter. And biking is a wonderful experience all year long. Highly recommended ⭐️

Great for skating! Takes a few hours to get across the full thing, you'll need to take breaks. Lots of areas to get ready, benches are always open and warm as they're inside. Lots of beaver tail places along the canal. I personally like going under the bridges, as they're so tall and almost feel magical to skate under. They're great for pictures and just make the atmosphere that much better. A Zamboni goes across the main parts to make sure it's good to skate, and it's always well shoveled because of the snow plows. 10/10 recommended.

Such a beautiful part of the world. Spent a few days puttering around from Merrickville to Westport. All the lock staff were friendly as were everyone we met along our way. The towns are so quaint and peaceful everyone is friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed our short time and will certainly be back for a longer journey next time. I recommend everybody to visit this gem.

The Rideau Canal, also known unofficially as the Rideau Waterway, connects Canada's capital city of Ottawa, Ontario, to Lake Ontario and the Saint Lawrence River at Kingston. It is 202 kilometres long. The Rideau Canal, also known unofficially as the Rideau Waterway, connects Canada's capital city of Ottawa, Ontario, to Lake Ontario and the Saint Lawrence River at Kingston. It is 202 kilometres long. The name Rideau, French for "curtain", is derived from the curtain-like appearance of the Rideau River's twin waterfalls where they join the Ottawa River. The canal system uses sections of two rivers, the Rideau and the Cataraqui, as well as several lakes. Parks Canada operates the Rideau Canal.

My favourite Ottawa playground. Spring, summer, and fall great for walking, cycling, running, and roller blading. There is even road closures on Sundays in the summer. Take it all in with spring tulip festival and manicured gardens. In the winter it's my skating rink. Imagine never seeing the same face twice, skating for an hour and still not completing the whole rink. It's over 15 km there and back.

Coming to this location for ice skating is one of my life bucket lists, and it was fulfilled finally. I had a great time skating on this river, and it was such a life experience. The local probably won't understand, but it's not easy to find a frozen river to ice skate on a regular basis. It is so nice that there are signs everywhere indicating how far you are going and every now and then that is some resting area and benches for you to take a break

Rideau Canal - Ottawa. Two words suffice - an artist’s canvas . This was one of our spots to be visited during our Ottawa day trip and turned out be most rejuvenating and enjoying. As we disembarked our vehicles and moved out the tulips on sidewalks were welcoming to the stunning pathway that led us to the over bridge on the river. As we walked pass the display board, the river and walkways offered pleasing views of surroundings and Ottawa skyline. Cruise 🚒 rides option available if you can spare 2 to 3 hrs. Else an half an hour stroll across the river bridge and side ways suffice. Soak in the clean air, soothing environment and well laid walkway along and around the spot. Enjoy.

A gorgeous place to walk all year round. With great scenery, you won't be bored for as long as you decide to walk. You will see flowers, trees, cityscape, river boat tours, aquatic spots (kayaking, etc). The canal definitely adds to the beauty of the city and is something you won't want to miss if visiting the capital.
