The tree of return is on the route of the guided tour offered from the temple of the pythons. The guides are very involved and very clear (the site is large you should probably follow the guide with a glass car as he moves around on a motorbike). The site has been completely landscaped and symbols are located all around. The houses of the surrounding residents have also been renovated (only the front) to give a cleaner and more welcoming appearance to this place)

This is very historic place in Ouidah. It is sobering the way Africans were sold and treated during the infamous transatlantic slave trade. The village is calm and friendly. Visitors would have to watch out for street kids who solicit. Note that there are certain places one can not step on with footwear on, especially the memorial for the departed souls.

When ever I get to this tree of return I am often amazed at the thoughts of our forefathers and their cronies during the slave trade period. Their wickedness. At this tree, the men will go round it 9 times and the women seven times.. This is said to bring back the spirits of the exported African slaves.
