Since we visited the Christmas market, which takes place at the cathedral, we of course also visited the cathedral. Unfortunately, work was taking place inside so we were only able to move around to a limited extent. At first glance, the cathedral looks quite small inside, which doesn't fit with the external appearance. During our tour we noticed that the main room is relatively small due to the small chapels. What we liked best were the ceiling paintings and the chapels, which were very dark but were very pleasant for the sake of peace and quiet. A fee of €1 was charged for taking photographs, which isn't much but in other religious buildings such as large mosques or temples we never had to or should pay. Overall, it was also worth seeing because of the window pictures.

Walking through the Cathedral, in this altar the remains of Charlemagne are kept in a golden chest protected by a display case. To visit the throne you have to go up to the first floor of the DOM. With a very Byzantine style decoration, it is something that cannot be missed. From the visit we took the images recorded on the retina and on the camera to remember. A recommended visit.

Finally saw the royal throne. Nowadays, relics are no longer as fascinating as they were back then (thanks to radiocarbon dating) but this simple throne is overwhelming when you delve into the history and imagine what it was like back then. If you are one of the “chosen ones” who got a ticket for the viewing, consider yourself lucky. No reservation is possible and you should be quick. After 15 minutes all tickets were sold out. The tour was very exciting

Aachen Cathedral is beautiful, worth seeing! If you want to see Charlemagne's throne you have to buy a ticket for the guided tour of the Cathedral, which lasts 45 minutes, for the modest price of 5 euros. It's absolutely money well spent! The ticket can be purchased at the information office just outside the Cathedral courtyard

The throne is on the first floor of the DOM and could only be viewed with the DOM tour. It only costs a few euros and is worth doing. The throne is probably the most historic in German history. 30 kings and 12 queens are said to have been crowned here! Not Emperor Charlemagne, because in those days emperors were crowned emperor in Rome by the Pope.

A truly spectacular cathedral. First place declared a World Heritage Site in Germany (1978). With a very Byzantine style decoration, it is something that cannot be missed. On the altar there is a golden chest where the remains of Charlemagne are kept. Totally recommended because of the beautiful place.

This is one of the best places in the world to fantasize about world domination. Napoleon was there, I was there... Seriously speaking: the throne is a moving, seminal artifact for the history of (Western) Europe. It doesn't really matter if Charlmangne actually sat on there: it is an important symbol of a time where Europe was a Res Publica Christiana. Now, we have a weird body politic called the EU which shares much with the Empire (supernational institutions, a chronically slow decision-making process), yet, if you want to trace the origins of Europe as a political construct, this is one of the earliest place you want to look at. Awesome place, if you are a history/political nerd. Awesome place, in general.

(Translated by Google) The simplicity of this seat has a magical relationship to the power of those who were allowed to sit on it... It is now considered certain that the yellowed marble came from the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem; but that the divine consecration, which may have been granted to him as part of a special house of God, may also be realized here in wisdom in the exercise of the conferred royal power, is more the result of pious hope than justified expectation!

While Charlemagne did not sit here, it is still a great visit and tour

The interior decoration is gorgeous and you should avoid the free worship service ^^

Ongelooflijk wat een prachtig bouwwerk ruim 1000 jaar geleden is neergezet.

Leider kommt man nur mit Führung hoch. Der Thron selbst ist recht unspektakulär, die Führung lohnt sich aber auf jeden Fall

(Translated by Google) A guided tour of the Aachen Cathedral plus Aachen City Hall is really worthwhile. The throne looks inconspicuous, but it also attracts you incredibly. It's special when you know who has sat here before and ruled the country. Really look. Wirklich anschauen.
