Had a delicious Sunday lunch at The Trout Inn. The fig & dolcelatte roast was so tasty and the puddings were amazing (best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever eaten). Friendly staff and a lovely setting. There are works on the river but still nice to go outside (it’s only the bit nearest the bridge). A peacock came over to say hello too.

Stopped off for a Bank Holiday lunch after a walk around Port Meadow. The Trout is a magnificent location and the interiors are luxurious and cosy. The staff were attentive and friendly and obviously concerned to give good service. The ‘dirty burger’ was delicious and caused much finger licking. The duck salad healthy but no less tasty. My trio of cheesecakes was inventive, well presented and great value. A great showing!

I could not fault The Trout Inn, the friendly reception we received from the staff was fantastic. The food was first class, well presented and fresh as the day is long. The situation of this very old building is very pleasant, on the bank of the River Thames (ISIS). I have no hesitation in recommending all to visit for either a meal or just to relax in high backed chairs with a glass of your favourite tipple. I will definitely be returning.

I've been coming here since 1976. Current owners are rude and when I went in I was turned away as a walk in even though they were 15% max occupancy and by their own admission they didn't have a lot of covers booked. Great location, poor management direction and especially when you turn away a journalist

Took a chance on the Google description for my husband's birthday, as we are not from this area. We were not disappointed! The pub itself has a lovely, cozy, olde world atmosphere and the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and prices reasonable.

The Trout is a lovely, cozy traditional pub with a beautiful setting right by the river. The staff are friendly and welcoming leaving a lovely impression from the beginning and the service is prompt. The food is traditional pub food with some modernization, while it is decent there is room for improvement. The battered banana blossom has a nice texture and a light tempura style batter but is a tad overly greasy and under seasoned. The celeriac dish was delicious but is probably more of a starter than a main course and not very filling. The dessert martinis were delicious but a bit weaker than expected. Overall this is a really nice place to spend some time.

Stayed in Oxford for a couple of days and found this lovely place, it's right on the river Thames. We were there in the evening, and the food , service and surroundings were all excellent. I would love to return in the summer to see what it's like outside then!

I took two friends for lunch as we had stopped for a drink before but never eaten there. I was so pleased that we did! The food was amazing, well presented and so tasty. No pictures of starters as we ate them so quickly as they looked so appetising! All of the staff were friendly and efficient and the service could not be faulted. Great atmosphere for dining in beautiful surroundings. We will certainly be back again!

The scenery is very nice outside by the river. The inside of the pub looked very nice too. The food was nice, perhaps slightly small portions. Our main issue was with service and cleanliness. Upon arrival every single unoccupied table was covered in dirty plates and glasses, see pictures attached. We had to clear a table ourselves for somewhere to sit and eat - we did have a booking. All the mess was not cleared up for the duration of our visit, over an hour. Not nice to be surrounded by mess. They had ran out of specials and could not order those on the app. Waitresses unaware of this. Had to queue for a while at the bar to find out they had ran out. Dinner for two. Food arrived 5-10 mins apart. The waitress served one meal then served a whole other table then served the second meal. Waitress forgot cutlery so had to come back for it (the outside cutlery had ran out).

We went with one small dog, dogs are allowed in all areas of the pub. We had pre drinks in the bar area until our table was ready. The pub has had a beautiful makeover. We had starters & mains which included scallops. All our meals were all so well presented and delicious. I was so indulged that I forgot to take a photo of my meal. The staff were busy but excellent, very polite. If I’m around that way again, I’d love to visit.

Came to have lunch on a busy Saturday. We did not have reservation but were given a table regardless. Really nice building with great outdoor sitting on the river. Service was great, the food was amazing. Reasonable pricing. Will visit again

It’s a very good example of Oxford village pub’s. Atmosphere, staff very warm. Comfortable chairs, handy bar and it’s quite bid enough. There’s big sitting area near riverside, if the weather appropriate it’s specially very good. Many options on the menu and moderately priced and at the nearsighted free park area. Go for it and enjoy !!

We’ve been coming to The Trout for many, many years and like everyone, we love the food, location, the walks and the countryside. We booked a meal as we were heading to Blenheim Palace for the Christmas Lights Show. On arrival our table wasn’t ready (well it was unoccupied but still had the plates, glasses etc from the previous customers). We were directed to the bar for a drink, and waited for around 15 mins to be seated. We were given our menus and selected our food. Having finished our starters, our main course arrived before our plates were cleared. It was at this point I noticed there was one server (the restaurant area down towards the toilets) who was taking orders, serving and clearing tables and was doing a wonderful job. I did begin to notice that other tables were taking ages to be cleared (not in our section), and one table in particular by the bar had a quantity of plates and glasses left for the entire duration of our meal. They were only cleared just as we were paying our bill. Please can you have staff clear the tables within an acceptable amount of time. It doesn’t look nice especially for people coming into the restaurant. I think it would be a good idea to have more staff directed to clear tables when there is the need (rather than leaving it to one server)…. Aside from that, we loved our meal..!

Went on Easter Monday so hard to really assess fairly. The building and garden outside alongside the weir are lovely. Inside is split over many nooks and crannies of tables which works well. Staff are moving quickly and there are plenty of them. Prices are a little steep on drinks, especially wine by the glass. Food not required by us but from the number of full tables and happy customers it looked well received. One grumble was the all pervasive music, inside and out, played at a volume that made hearing and talking a chore. Why? Everyone was talking to each other.

The Sunday menu at the Trout is spot on: a choice of roast and a pared back choice of other meals, meaning that the food is well executed and tasty. The only problem is that the restaurant is clearly understaffed. The waiting staff are very polite and accommodating but they are run off their feet. I hope the staffing will be properly addressed.

A hidden gem when travelling on the A40. We booked a table online and found our reserved table overlooking the Thames. Excellent menu, although slightly expensive, but a great place to take a break by the Thames. It was raining so we did not look around but would definitively come back for a walk. I would highlight that the service was excellent and would come back to try something else on the menu.

Meeting up with friends for one of our three times a year reunion. We were greeted by staff and shown to our table promptly and our drinks order followed soon afterwards. Despite being very busy, we were not kept waiting long and our main course arrived in good time too. The food was excellent, we all had something different, and all of us commented that we were very happy with our choice. The waitress (Kelly) was super and did a marvellous job of attending to us. We later chose desserts and they arrived in good time and I can recommend the pavlova which was enormous. Full marks to Kelly, we will be back again soon.

Went for a family meal on Sunday. Definitely book before as very popular pub on a river setting. The pub was quite warm with radiators on so we felt a little hot and could not open a window although we asked and the server tried I think it was painted shut. We had our desserts outside due to this. We ordered 3 roasts and a curry. Roasts look lovely when presented and I enjoyed my pork one although I did find the potatoes a little hard. However my husband had the beef and found this a little chewy. My mother in law had a child portion of roast and could not cut this very well and again said was chewy. Our server asked about our food and we mentioned the issues. He very promptly apologised and said he would remove the cost of meal from bill as well as a coffee we did not receive. Very well dealt with by server. Other food we saw being served looked well presented. Unfortunately meals in pubs sometimes fail but I think I would revisit as the service and the way our issues were dealt with was very good and other food/desserts was fine.

We had dinner here on a weekend evening and were very happy with the experience. We went for a mix of starters, main (fish and chips) and dessert (damson and apple crumble; cheesecake trio), with everything being tasty and fresh. Friendly service as well and good selection of drinks. Finally, the location is charming: very nicely located in the countryside but still close enough to Oxford.

Perfect Sunday roast experience. Located in a stunning setting alongside River Thames, the inn's tables sit peacefully in the shade. The staff was very friendly and we were served with an impressive speed. The food was of very high standards, both in terms of look and taste - the juicy chicken in particular is to die for - and the iced water lightly infused with lemon brought an exquisite freshness to the meal. Finally, the inn building itself is a historical treasure and quintissentially British.

This is a lovely place to dine and have some drinks or just hang out with friends. The location on the water is so relaxing and inviting. Inside is what one comes to love about English pubs for their warm, inviting and homey atmosphere. This is a can’t miss opportunity for a great experience. Stop in and i know you will agree. 😁

We were recommended to come here by a friend and the whole experience was great, the location is idyllic, the restaurant is picturesque and the staff warm and welcoming, the service by Kelly was wonderful. The icing on the cake of course was the food, Alex was our chef who cooked generously proportioned dishes, delicious in every mouthful. It was a culinary masterpiece that we all enjoyed. Will definitely be passing on the recommendation to many others. Well worth the cost and journey into the scenic countryside.

This is an amazing pub, the food was excellent as were the friendly, helpful staff. The location is perfect on a sunny day right by the river for a relaxing lunch or morning coffee.

We came here to enjoy a pint and food, but we had to deal with spiders above our tables. The spiders were on top of the food and there were having multiple spiderwebs. There were at least 10 spiders. On top of that, the waiter took the food out after it was served to us, and gave it to our neighbors.

The location and atmosphere is amazing, especially in the summer! The food is nice, tasty and fresh but small portions Customer service could be better, had to ask a few times to sort the food out Remember to reserve in advance as it does get quite busy Prices are higher so little bit more expensive than usual pub, no cheap but a good country pub Free parking which is a plus

We visited The Trout on a lovely, sunny, hot Sunday afternoon! Despite the heat, the service was brilliant and our waitress Holly did an amazing job! The food came out very quickly and was sublime! Cannot recommend enough!

Fantastic gastropub. Setting was amazing and the food was delicious. This was topped of by our server Victoria. She was incredible throughout our meal. Attentive, friendly, bubbly, thoughtful and knowledgeable. She made our experience an 11/10! Definitely coming back and hope that we see Victoria again. Thank you!

Visited Oxford on a very sunny day, I had tried to book here for a Sunday roast, but was fully booked. The reviews looked great - So decided to pop in for a beer anyway and see if it was worth visiting next time I was in Oxford. It was EXTREMELY busy. Managed to find a spot next to the river in the garden. Lovely place, we ordered beers off the table scanner and they took an incredibly long amount of time to come. Would definitely advise booking

Best roast dinner and service we have experienced for a long time!! Food was delicious, portion sizes were generous and I think it was a reasonable price for the quality and quantity. One of our meals was the beef, chicken and pork option- they forgot to put the pork on but when service was informed, the situation was rectified straight away. With the most delicious pork and crackling brought out separately. Overall would definitely recommend and look forward to coming back!

Lovely pub and spot to sit out by the river with great service. We both had salmon which was beautifully cooked and they were very good catering for allergies. Only criticism is that it would have been nice to have been advised that one of the dishes came with very little veg - it was too late then to order a side as my food would have gone cold. Definitely worth booking ahead for food on a weekend. On the day they are often too busy to answer the phone.

A wonderful riverside location. Free parking. Good food and drinks choice. The venue has had people like Harry Worth visit in the 60s. Known for its connection with Inspector Morse.
