The stay was very relaxing. I was at the Deluxe Double room, and everything was great. The room was lovely and it had tea/coffee supplies and a kettle, and also a hair drier. The bathroom was very clean and pleasant and the little bag of toiletries were great, even the shampoo and conditioner was great on my frizzy and curly hair. (I usually don’t trust the hotel shampoos on my hair but this time I didn’t pack my daily shampoo as my backpack was heavy). The room was pretty much soundproof and the mattress and the pillows were great. I slept very peacefully and got up very refreshed.

Absolutely lovely hotel right in the middle of Oxford city centre. The room was bright and large, plenty of storage space and the bed was really comfy. The stairs are quite steep and there is no lift but it was fine for us. We will definitely stay here again when we return to visit our Son who is in University here

Great location. Very helpful pleasant staff. Rooms are quirky as expected in a building of this age. Stayed on the first floor. High ceilings, lots of light, big windows. Windows let in street noise at night. Had to sleep with foam earplugs. Overall good stay at reasonable price. Recommend Browns cafe in the covered market for an early breakfast .

Totally city center location so you cannot get a better spot - you are just in the center of the most important part of the town and everything is just within a couple minute walking distance. The room was spacious, clean, and just the way we expected it. It is more like an inn but you do not fill it. THe staff is very nice and informative. Check-in lasted about one minute and everything was so smooth. Check-out and invoice for the stay were also smooth and pleasant. Everything was exactly the way it was supposed to be.

Perfect location, nice staff, clean rooms, good price. Can be a bit noisy, but I slept well anyway

Super, unbeatable location in central Oxford. Priced accordingly! Not it's fault but the drains outside ponged in the morning. Nevertheless a good overnight/weekend billet and when teemed with brekkie at the vaults under the Uni church, damn near perfect I'd say!

Perfect location for exploring Oxford. The staff was friendly and room was nice, overall good value. My room was facing the street which was a bit noisy at night but that was minor. Great choice for visiting Oxford.

Absolutely lovely place to stay in Oxford's city center. You're just a 5-10 minute walk away from so many things: The Turf Tavern, The Ashmolean museum, Christchurch Cathedral, Gloucester Green, etc. The rooms were lovely. Ours in particular looked out over Broad Street, which is beautiful. The biscuits that came with our tea and coffee were delicious. We looked forward to them. I would definitely stay here again.

Simple, but cosy rooms. Directly in the City center. Everything was clean and the roomservice was great. Very friendly staff.

Location is great, and it’s a short walk to the city centre and to Saïd business school. Rooms are simple but quite spacious. Lots of stairs though. Would certainly come back.

The location is perfect, right in the centre of Oxford. The staff were nice and the room was okay. If it was rated as a 3 star hotel I'd have been impressed, but it's not a four star

Great location and a lovely spacious, clean room and en suite. Fabulous shower! Couple of niggles - the paintwork could have done with a touch up to freshen the room, and tv signal was ropey. Just very minor! Oh, and there's never enough of those tiny milk cartons for a cuppa in the evening and the next morning - two per cup required!

Great location for sightseeing Oxford, but rooms are simple and you'll likely be carrying luggage up and down narrow staircases.

Entrance was super narrow and twisty making carrying suitcases and bags after a long journey very difficult and awkward. Reception, when we found it, was grim and receptionist extremely disinterested and monotone, lacking in any great welcome. Whole place is creaky and tired. Very complicated system of narrow stairs to find room….positively dangerous! No assistance offered during the entire stay….no interest in our stay from staff at all. Room was very basic and disappointing. Dirty -spills on walls and skirtings…bathroom desperately in need of a good scrub and re tiling, lamp shade ripped and torn, not replaced. Huge great ugly air conditioning box by window, noisy and smelly. Great thick pipe leading out of window to hold it open! Not even a full length mirror in room. Very hot and not fresh smelling. Needs some bright and welcoming touches….no time or effort spent. Bed was wobbly and old, mattress soft and unsupportive, my back ached for 3 nights. Nothing good to say about this place, I wish I’d stated elsewhere, had I known how miserable and unappealing it was. The grande finale was having a call to inform us the window cleaner was on his way up to do the windows whilst we were getting ready for our day out. Oxford is the most incredible city….such a shame the Buttery doesn’t do the place any justice at all! This place DOES NOT deserve the four star rating it has been awarded in any shape or form. Take heed.

Location is excellent - right in the middle of Oxford city center. Staff are friendly. However, the rooms are very small. Lack of loft and having to take stairs with heavy luggage can be problematic. No room service available.

The only entrance to the hotel is a narrow and steep staircase, impossible to negotiate for senior or impaired folks, the tap water came at 30 degrees minimum in the shower, the mobile AC unit was not connected to the exterior so rejecting as much hot as cold air in the room. Not recommended unless a madly in love couple that won’t mind anything but each other

Keen to recapture a wonderful stay many years ago, sadly 15 years later the cafe’s closed, so no breakfast with accommodation and the hotel is looking tired. Poor decor, an uncomfortable old mattress and an en suite that is in need of modernisation and a good clean to remove the smell of drains. The location is very central, which brings with it late night revellers shouting and singing in the street into the early hours, and on a Saturday morning we were awoken by the sound of scaffolding as stalls were erected for an Art Market that day.

I arrived late and was promptly checked in and offered help with taking my bags into my room. I could get a good night's sleep and check out quickly in the morning. I was able to leave my bags in the hotel during the day before I departed from Oxford. The room was big and neat. I appreciated the kettle, tea/coffee, milk, and cookies. The bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, soap, towels, hairdryer. The bedsheets were pleasant. Bedside table lights had cold light halogen lamps that I found unpleasant.
