I paid a visit to this unique "Village Themed", "Varanasi Cuisine" restaurant and my overall experience was far below expectations. In this review, I am going to discuss in details, by enlisting the "Pros and Cons" of this restaurant & most importantly, my observations. Pros :- 1) Mind-Blowing ambience & theme. This is probably the only reason why you should visit this place. While dining, you cannot really differentiate whether you are sitting in a real village or a restaurant located in a bustling metropolis. 2) Courteous staffs and security personnel. 3) Hygeine parameters are really good. 4) Water is served on earthen cups (usually the bigger version of the ones available in the roadside tea stalls) 5) Food is served on big wooden plates. Cons :- 1) Extremely overpriced dishes, which doesn't justify the quality nor the quantity being served. 2) The taste of the foods were nothing exceptional. Most of the dishes I tried here, tasted bland and saltless. 3) They are charging around ₹300 for the "Batti Chokha" Thali, but what you get on your plate is not even equivalent to ₹100. 4) The tables and chairs are too low and very uncomfortable for a tall person to sit. 5) The location of this restaurant is not a convenient one. You usually won't get frequent autos or buses in this particular route. Personally, I won't recommended this restaurant, but if you are a foodie who likes to explore unique dishes and loves themed restaurants, then you could visit here once . 🙂

They used to be a really good restaurant a year ago when I had visited them. But when I visited yesterday, this place has turned into a mess. Absolutely no hospitality, taste of food has become horrible, full of chilly and masalas, and the service speed is extremely slow. No one cares about the customers sitting on the table. Literally each one of us got an upset stomach after eating there. I would never go back to this place again. Hope the management and the team sees this review and works on knowing their issues

🌟 Restaurant Review: Baati Chokha Restaurant 🌾🍽️ Prepare your taste buds for a journey through the flavors of Bihari cuisine at Baati Chokha Restaurant, nestled in Salt Lake, Kolkata! 🌾✨ As a proud native of Jamshedpur, Bihari cuisine holds a special place in my heart, and Baati Chokha Restaurant perfectly captures the essence of this under-rated culinary tradition in a rustic and authentic setting. Here's a glimpse into my delightful dining experience: 🏡 Village-like Authenticity: Baati Chokha Restaurant immerses you in a charming village-like atmosphere, transporting you to the heart of Bihar. The decor and ambiance beautifully capture the simplicity and authenticity of Bihari culture. It's a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, allowing you to relish your meal in a tranquil and traditional setting. 🏡✨ 🔥 Litti Chokha Delight: Bihari cuisine is renowned for its flavorsome spices and simplicity, and Baati Chokha Restaurant serves the best version of the iconic Litti Chokha. The Litti, with its sattu stuffing, generously coated with desi ghee, paired with a medley of chutneys and aubergine-based chokha, is an unmatched culinary experience. It's a must-try dish that encapsulates the true essence of Bihari cuisine. 🔥🌶️ 💫 Baati Chokha Combo: For a comprehensive taste of Bihari cuisine, I indulged in the Baati Chokha Combo, which included two pieces of Litti with chokha, accompanied by fragrant rice, daal, chutney, and pickle. The combination provided a harmonious blend of flavors and textures, creating a truly satisfying meal. It's a delightful package that ensures you savor a variety of Bihari delicacies in one sitting. 💫🍚🥣 🥮 Sattu Parantha and Fried Phara: To explore more Bihari specialties, I couldn't resist trying the Sattu Parantha—a personal favorite since my school days when my bench mate would treat me with these delectable delights. Additionally, I ventured into something new—the Fried Phara. This unique appetizer features spiced daal stuffed in a rice cover, steamed, chopped, and fried to perfection. It's a classical Bihari dish that offers a delightful burst of flavors. 🥮🍽️ 🥛 Heavenly Lassi: Lastly, don't forget to indulge in their heavenly lassi. Baati Chokha Restaurant pays homage to their roots in Varanasi by serving the most delectable lassi. It's a creamy and refreshing treat that perfectly complements the flavors of the Bihari cuisine. A sip of this lassi will transport you to the lanes of Varanasi and leave you craving for more. 🥛✨ Baati Chokha Restaurant is a culinary gem that celebrates the richness of Bihari cuisine in a delightful and authentic manner. From the iconic Litti Chokha to the soul-satisfying Baati Chokha Combo, every dish is a testament to the culinary heritage of Bihar. If you're looking to explore the underrated flavors of Bihari vegetarian cuisine, Baati Chokha Restaurant is a must-visit. Immerse yourself in the village-like ambiance, indulge in their signature dishes, and allow your taste buds to be enchanted by the rustic charm of Bihari culinary traditions.

I've gone to a number of places, but this one was the kind of place I was looking for! The authenticity of this place, the way it has been done. The interiors are so beautiful. This is a PURE VEG restaurant. Ambience : Peaceful, with old songs playing in the background and beautiful art to appreciate and big tables, with ample seating space, enough for atleast 7 people to sit on one table. Mostly you'll see families or friends here. The waiters are also dressed up and they serve water in kulhad. Very village- ish interior that was like a change for me. Nicely lit. Food : 1. Sattu baati - ⭐⭐⭐ 2. Paneer baati - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 3. Kadhai paneer - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4. Kadi pakoda - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5. Jeera rice - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 6. Peas Pulao - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 7. Paneer butter masala - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 8. Mattha - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 9. Lassi - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10.Chokkha - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ They give dhaniya chutney and a tomato chutney and ghee already, incase you need it. I will recommend not to take the baati separately because then you'll have to take chokkha separately again and it will be better to have the combo than taking each separately. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 star is because a slight improvement with the taste in a few items would be great. Chokkha is made of aloo and brinjal mashed together and is spicy. The taste of all the dishes was good. And the lassi was too good. Service - service was fine, they were polite and were serving with a smile. People complaining about their behaviour being slow or rude is not fine because they work the entire day and might be tired or angry at some hour. You can still be polite with them. However, the GST taxes were not high,it was around 37₹ I guess. There's also a chai stall outside incase you might want to grab one. And they also sell achars and other items. Overall,I will visit again definitely!

Oh boy, what do I say? This is probably one of the best (if not the best) authentic restaurant in Salt Lake. Not only the food is great but it complements well with the Interior. The interior is designed in a typical Rajasthan fashion. Baati Chokha tastes amazing & it's not too expensive as it looks like. Must visit if you enjoy Baati / Litti Chokha 😍

Wonderful experience at Baati-Chokha. The place is aesthetically designed giving the feeling of a Village Set-up. Most Importantly, the Food Quality is top-notch. A must visit for all the Vegetarians living in Kolkata! Sattu Baati (with Chokha and Dal), Paneer Papad Pakoda, Bakheer are a Must-Try!! Special mention for our server, Mr. Akash Sharma! He exhibited very warm and courteous Hospitality!

Nice place, well maintained with good decor and ambience. Food quality is very good and service is great too. Value for money, worth trying. Seems that footfall is increasing day by day. Even on a weekday evening the restaurant was almost full. It's quite creditable.

The ambience is amazing as the interior of the restaurant is unique...the staffs are well behaved and polite as well... now comes the food part which is too good like proper Rajasthani food like bhindi Kurkure, jeera rice, litti with hot ghee all of these are mouth watering and lastly hot gajar ka halwa is like the cherry on the top... Truly enjoyed the food.

A wonderful experience worth cherishing. Would strongly recommend visiting the place. Right from the word go, it's a stellar place. The decor is a typical Rajasthani theme exquisitely detailed. Whether it be the cooking of food in typical rural ambience or the sitting area like a hut with lanterns hanging and the well - it is enchanting. The baatis - plain and stuffed (masala, paneer) soaked in ghee are fantastic. The accompanying chokha and chutneys are delicious. The staff are very helpful and attentive. The thali/combo is a good option. The pricing is reasonable. For an authentic Rajasthani vegetarian experience, this place is a must visit.

From ambience, choice of music to food quality, everything is just perfect. The food is just sufficiently spicy and each and every dish is made with a lot of love and care. The staff are really good. Recommended: PANEER PAPAD PAKORA and SATTU BAATI. The others are amazing as well, but these two are exceptional.

This restaurant serves the simply best Baati-Chokha I have had in my life. One of the best and authentic North Indian cuisine is served here. The experience of having authentic North Indian food is enhanced by the rustic decoration and the ambience. It is the perfect example of elegance in simplicity. As starters, the Masala Papad with different chutneys was very appetising and the Steamed Phara was pretty good in taste, quantity and was wholesome. We had ordered Plain, Sattu and Paneer Baati (served with a generous helping of desi ghee), all three were delicious of the superlative level, needless to say, Chokha was also ordered, whose taste was also of the superlative kind. The Handi dal we had ordered was delicious as well. The Churma and the Moong Halwa made the ending perfect to a sumptuous, soul-satisfying and a hearty dinner. Safety and hygiene were well maintained- hand-sanitiser was provided at the entrance and the servers were wearing face-masks. I would highly recommend this (little-known?) hidden gem of a restaurant. Would definitely visit again and recommend (and encourage) to others as well!

Food was good. Ambience is also great. They can work out on the seating arrangement to increase more people at a time. One thing which I didn't like was they preparing Litti in coal at the entrance. It might be good for look and feel but there were kid in the waiting queue and it's not a very bright thing to do. They should work out on the pricing which I think is exorbitant also you will have to order item wise which again is a good pricing for the restaurant but not so good deal for the customer.

Baati Chokha restaurant is a good place to hop in while craving for authentic Banaras Batti and Chokha. My suggestions - Paneer Papad Pakoda ( Starters ) Sattu Masala Batti and Chokha ( Meal ) Mattha ( Alongwith Batti for good stomach ) The menu is small and crisp. They do NOT serve tandoori rotis, naan, kulchas and rumali rotis in breads. You may chose parathas from a few varieties available.

I had ordered from them initially and was blown by the taste of their sattu baati and chokha. But the experience at their restaurant was even better. Few people visit this place as bengalis might not take to the taste of benaras too easily. But if you are from rajasthan or haryana or up or bihar, you are in for a treat. The dal handi can transport you to a childhood memory, while mustard oil heavy chokha was open your blocked nasal cavities. What really stands out is their Kheer. Just the right level of sweetness which is quite hard to find in Calcutta. Go for the Kheer sometime.

Litti chokha was good. Visited this place in the afternoon today. But the behaviour of the manager (or the big fat person who was managing) was very very poor. He indirectly wanted us to throw our family and friends out of the restaurant just after we had our food. Standing in front of us he ordered the waiter to clear the table since there were many people waiting outside. This behaviour of his was very very rude. Even my family members & friends felt very bad because of this rude behaviour. And we will not be visiting this restaurant again. When we came out of the restaurant to our astonishment we found no one waiting, it was empty outside. Is this the way Rajasthani Restaurant owners behave with their customers?

Perfect ambience of a road side dhaba in a village kinda setup. Food is awesome out here. If you are not a Garlic person please ask them for the same. As the for had lot of it. Otherwise no compromise in the authenticity. Budget friendly as well.

Pros : ambience, art, quantity, taste Cons : a bit on the expensive side of things Verdict : definitely would recommend. Their hut-like seating was very fascinating. Servers are very polite and helpful.

If you are fond of Baati/Little, It's a good place to go. Beating soaked in Ghee with 2 types of Chutney and chokha , Dal. Service was good. Pricing is reasonable.

One of the best vegetarian restaurant in Saltlake. Though they are specialized in Rajasthani Cuisine but I love their butter paneer masala most. Ambiance is also very chilled. The decors inside the restaurant will give you a rural feelings. They made foods in authentic style.

Best place to eat Baati with Chokha the traditional bhojpuri food and get its mesmerizing taste. The traditional way of cooking used here make the taste of baati awesome. I visited here many time but its never enough. The interior of this place make us feel that we are in some village and its quite attractive too. I must recommend this place to anyone who wants to try different cuisines. Overall it was a nice experience.

Unique concept, to make Deshi and Traditional Dishes of Bihar Uttar, Pradesh and Rajasthan become Global and Popular. Hand made Shal Leaf (Patta) Thali and Earth Pots (Kullad or Bhand) to drink Water, memories back to those days. Quality maintained. Staffs behaviour is good, nice ambiance.

Baati chokha was a wholesome experience. It has limited variety of food to offer. It is authentic themed restaurant ,alot different from rest of the restaurants in Kolkata. From drinking water in kulhad to having food in patta(leaf) thali it got me cultural UP/Rajasthani vibes.Thanks.

One can get amused by the traditional environment, surroundings and lantern lighting everywhere. The thali is made up of wood, the leaf plates, and water served in earthen pots give you feeling of rural cordial treatment mood. The paintings on the walls give an impression of village like culture. The servings were nice and the way of serving was also kool. One ahould visit the place for a change from modernity.

The place, ambiance, food, service. Everything is just amazing. The more i visit and the more am attracted towards this amazing restaurant and that too affordable and pocket friendly. A must visit place for everyone. You can go with your family members or the dear ones and enjoy the tastiest delicacies inside a proper village ambience and you will feel that you are in some Village. Last but not the least. A paradise for veg lovers.

We went for lunch here. The ambience was different, with retro songs from Bollywood playing on the background. The staff was polite and service was fast. The menu had a variety but we ordered separately. We ordered Bhindi fry, Ghee chapati, Paneer Masala and Butter Garlic Naan. The proportion of the gravy was enough for two of us. Best part was being served in earthen plates covered with banana leaves. The food was served hot and yum! Lastly, we tried the Matka which was as satisfying as you can have in Rajasthan. Definitely going to visit again. Note - The restaurant does not take booking on Sundays, luckily we didn't have to wait much. Drinks are not served, only veg food items are available. No Thali is available but you will find combos.

Location : Google takes to a right place. Near to city centre, salt lake Food: We love Bati chokha and we are a regular customer now because of this only. However, I wouldn’t recommend to take bati chokha thali, rather go for chokha and sattu bati individually. Try their lassi and chach also. Service: Quick Staffs: Polite They sell ghee also, if anyone is interested. However, I never tried. Overall: Must visit if you love litti/ Batti chokha (sattu) and it’s reasonable. P.S.: not recommending paneer bati. And yes, it’s always crowded (specially on weekend) so try to take atleast 15 mins in hand because you may have to wait.

First review written on: 17/12/2017, 07:10 am A village-themed restaurant. The ambience is great. Food is also very tasty. The flavors are typical and unique. Yes, a bit spicy but that's what makes mouth water, after all. The decoration is well-made. The staff is also good. The doorman will greet you very cordially. The location is good, too. One drawback is that all the tables are quite large and meant for 4+ persons. So it kind of feels odd. The tables are a bit high, too, so eating posture will be quite awkward.

This Veg restaurant has limited covers. Taste wise the restaurant is good, but quantity is comparatively less. Even special thali (quantity wise) is not enough for an grown adult. Otherwise it is good. The theme of this restaurant is ethnic, and the employees are very humble.

The authentic taste of the desi baati, chokha, and the desi tandoori dishes. Decor will remind you of a village in India. Foods are served in a plate made if lotus leaf and the water is served in an earthen glass or ভাঁড় (bhaanr) in bengali. Great place to enjoy with family as well as with friends. Also, they have a chakki in place by which they grind the pulses.
