Lovely food and great service. If you are looking for regular Indian food then move along. If you are looking for quality, different and individually served varieties of dishes and something special then this is the place for you. Going to make my local Indian seem very dull now!

I don't know what to say. When you will open the menu for dine in, this is the first thing you will be looking at. That's really awkward, you are Forced to give 15% tip along with the minimum $25 order for per person order while all the meal are overpriced compare to any other locations who served Indian food in the city.

Amazing to be eat...a must for any foodie. The staff are great and helpful, the deco inside is brilliant and the food is a definite match to the place. My parents lived the food (and they are very fussy). Can't wait to go back and try something different. Update.. Went back two later.. Still as good.

Super frustrated with their lamb biriyani.. taste like simply khichuri, and found most of the spices weren’t blended properly. I asked medium spicy but it was extremely spicy, The only thing we loved was kulfi.

This has been always one of my favorite places to go in St Johns but not anymore Service was good but the food wasn't much chop. They have lost their flavors the lamb I ordered was cooked separately from the sauce it should have been stewed in the soup was the same thing chicken added after the soup was poured. Honestly in my opinion it was not much better then something from a food court. The restaurant is very nice but I wanted a better meal. When we got our bill they informed us the tip of 15% was included in our total I discovered later that we tipped the hst amount as well. Not happy and won't be going back.

Have been staying locally in Brighton for work, have been eager to try the local and I dependant places when possible. Popped in and was greeted by the owner who kindly helped me understand the menu and other options available to me, picked a dish off the takeaway menu and asked for a little more spice.... Within ten mins (if that) I'm being presented with the goodness (smell was amazing, even in the bag and boxes). The garlic roti was the best which I have ever had (even having sat in one of those foil bags, which is never great) full of flavour, not too doughy and plentiful. The slightly charred aspect added great flavour.... Could have just polished that off with a drop of sauce. The curry itself, was amazing; the flavours really absorbed you. Decent amount of chicken too and 20 minutes later, I was a totally satisfied customer. Will be popping back to try something new next week. Thanks for a top dinner and kind service!

We had an amazing experience, the Bhelpurie starter was out of this world then two Grand Thali’s and the absolutely devine Barramundi maintained the gorgeousness. The service was wonderful and the Pinot Gris was possibly the nicest wine we have had in Brighton, at any price .... as for the ambience, the dinning room atmosphere and decor has a contemporary Indian feel celebrating street food roots and modern Indian culture. Overall the best Indian restaurant in Brighton.

I rarely give a 5* review, this was totally deserving!! The food was AMAZING, I'd highly recommend the masala dosas, hot summer chicken wings, papadum and pickles, lamb mewari, chicken biryani, mango lassi, oh and the vegan cheese cake is to die for... (and I'm not even vegan!!). There are 'Indian takeaways', and then there's Indian Summer. No looking back. This place is special. Amazing, friendly customer service from the owners. If you want a treat, this is it.

Great food, average service. We requested small modifications both the times we visited (different requests each time), both times they were completely ignored. Also, don't like the fact that they add a compulsory tip and then their machine asks for more when you tap to pay.

Feeling the need to escape the house on a Friday night, we walked to the downtown area for a nice meal. Having remember the last time we did this and finding the doors to India Gate closed for renovations, we thought we would try again. To our pleasant surprise, the restaurant was open and quite full. Fortunately, there was a table for two! Our servers were very professional and we were well attended for our meal. For those still concerned with Covid, all servers wore masks. We ordered the Dinner for Two which came with one choice of appetizer but with two plates ( this is confusing in the menu), two selections of meat dishes, a vegetarian plate, one of the simple rices and garlic naan. We did find the cost rather expensive having recently eaten a Dinner for Four at an Indian Restaurant in Halifax for the same we paid for two here. That said, our meal was quite good and one of the better I’ve had recently. It was a little perturbing and presumptuous that a 15% tip was automatically added to the bill. While I didn’t mind tipping, it should not be presumed that I will. Image if our service would have been poor and I had to ask to have the tip removed from our bill. Anyway, it was a wonderful meal with a wonderful decor and wonderful service. I would return.

India Gate has it all: a very warm and classy environment; wonderful and super friendly staff (most of whom have been there well over ten years at least); very friendly and hands on owner; and the best tasting Indian food you can enjoy in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is very popular, and as we found out our first time there, a reservation is wise but not always necessary. Can’t say enough about India Gate, other than thank-you. Brad and Katie

Absolutely amazing. In all ways. The waiter - Georgie I suppose - answered all our questions about the food, gave us recommendations which we followed. Presentation of food is 1st class, taste is premier league. We were taken care of through out well. Would highly recommend. Ps: the titles of meals on the menu may sound a bit foreign, so do not hesitate to ask ;)

Lovely experience. Service was top class you're never trying to get the attention of the waiter as they are very attentive. Food was gorgeous I'm not very fond of Indian food in general but this experience lead me to reconsider. Would recommend this place for anyone in the city feeling an Indian gourmet.

I visited Indian Summer at the weekend with a group of friends and we unanimously agreed how wonderful it was . The quality of the dished were exquisite, complimented perfectly by the beautiful presentation. There were fantastic options available for the different nutritional needs of the group (vegan, vegetarian and gluten free). The staff were very attentive all evening and kindly boxed up my leftovers as the generous portion was too much for me to finish. In fact, I loved it so much, I'm already booked in to go back next week!

I personally love Indian Summer's interesting, veg-friendly take on South Asian cuisine. I've dined-in a handful of times and have ordered Deliveroo dozens of times, and without fail their food has been really satisfying and tasty. There's great attention to detail as well, with side dishes often being on-par with the main courses. I highly recommend their Paneer Tandoori, it's the best I've had anywhere. Not only are the actual paneer cubes delicious, but the coriander chutney it's served with is literally the perfect accompaniment. Other highlights include the Masala Dosa (served with a savory sambhar), the Aloo Gobhi Subzi, and of course their samosas and pakoras (fried to perfection!). It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Definitely a cut above the competition.

High quality restaurant! Great atmosphere and the food was extra, I would say best indian meal I had in St.john’s so far. A bit on the pricy side but portions are fair considering the quality. Appetizer bread cracks was complimentary. I had the butter chicken, super creamy and rich, also comes with bread (naan) on the side. I would highly recommend the mango lassi, one of my favorite drinks (helps keep the heat down as well).

Great Indian food but it is priced higher than downtown Toronto! This is technically the best quality Indian food in town, however there are a couple other options (check my other reviews) that are much more reasonably priced and almost as good. Edit: I respectfully disagree that the portions are “large”. The portion sizes here are average or even on the small size, especially for the price.

Great ambiance. Superb service. The food was fantastic. A bit spicy. But served so warm and with such care that I definitely over ate. While we waited for the food the staff brought out some papadam. They brought it out. With a mango chutney that was mouth watering. As well as a tomato option others at the table gravitated towards. We tried the spicy paneer appetizer. Onion Bhaji. The laccha parantha and tandoori Roti were well prepared. The dal and saag were really good but a bit spicy. Definitely worth a try.

5 stars for the food. 3 stars for the service because they add 15% tip directly to your check and then give you an option to add additional tip while you pay on the machine. I'm sure some people won't notice the 15% tip that was added initially and tip twice.

Had a lovely experience. We had the dinner for three and left stuffed with leftovers. Highly recommend this restaurant. It's has been a staple in downtown St. John's for many years and the quality and service as remained high. Even in the middle of the week the dining room was full.

The tandoori chicken, laacha paratha, roti and butter chicken were very tasty. Best I have had in St John’s. Service and ambience is also great. I would go back again. I did not like dessert so much though. The saffron cake tasted like a normal tea cake and the gulab jamun was a bit rubbery. I’m okay with the 18% tip but don’t understand why it’s applied on the total bill including hst.

When I was in St. John’s, NL over Canada Day I had difficulties to find an open restaurant for dinner in the downtown area. There were several Chinese restaurants open; but didn’t have appetite for it. So I went to an Indian restaurant, called India Gate. It caught my attention because of the nice building in that it is situated. When I entered the place I realized that it is most likely an upper level price category. However, I was there to relax that’s why I didn’t mind to pay more if the quality is high. When I was ready to order I asked the server whether my choice (Kebab Platter) would be too much. She agreed and recommended taking some of the one-person specials they offered. I decided to order the non-vegetarian Thali. Originally, I wanted to order my standard dessert Gulab Jamun too. But since the server told me that the Thali comes with a dessert I didn’t do it. First, Papadam with three different kinds of dips (Mango-Carrot Chutney, Mint-Cucumber Yoghurt, and Tamarind sauce) was served. My favourites were the Chutney and the Tamarind sauce; I am not a big fan for mint. Then came the Thali. Usually, the Thali with served on a platter with different compartments. Here is was a half-moon-like tray with several small bowls. The bowls contained Chickpea Curry, Vegetable Curry, Lamb Curry, Rice Pudding, Chicken Tikka, Rice and Vegetable Pakoras. The dish was served with warm naan. The taste of all dishes were ok. The Chicken Tikka was not dry. This seems to be a challenge since most other restaurants I have visited presented a more or less dry chicken, which interfered with the joy of eating. I was a bit disappointed that the dessert contained just rice pudding instead of my favourite Gulab Jamun. If I would have known that at the beginning I would have ordered it as an additional dessert. However, despite the food amount in each bowl was similar to a taste sample, the total served amount of food was very good and I was so comfortably filled (but not stuffed) that I didn’t order another dessert. I felt so well that I ordered a Port wine and a closing item. Since the server did not know whether the taste of the wine would be the only I would like to have I got a sample of that wine, something I rarely encounter during my restaurant visits. Also in general, the servers and management were all quite attentive, friendly and competent. They asked every customer (not just me who was the only photographing the food) whether everything is good or whether there are still wishes. The only thing I did not like was that the bill was given me without my request since I wanted to enjoy the atmosphere a bit longer. Despite the quite elevated price of the meal I enjoyed the stay and did not regret the visit. Overall, the service was good, the food tasty, the atmosphere relaxing and the washroom clean. 4.5 out of 5

Most awful restaurant experience ever in St. John's! Food tasted incredibly gross. Charged ambiguously high, and they placed a tip amount themselves. It was an absolute waste of money and, honestly worst experience ever. I was not given an option to choose the tip amount to tip the server! They put a tip on the top of the bill themselves! I will never be visiting that place again and wouldn't recommend anyone!

Love this place, my favourite Indian resto in St. Johns. The Lamb Vindaloo is actually pretty spicy, I find most "spicy" dishes in NL are not spicy at all. All the dishes I've tried have been very tasty. The naan is exceptional, crisp, with a light, fluffy interior. They also have Kingfisher, which is necessary when having a curry. 😁

Great ambiance (with Indian music, candle on table - actual candle not some fake LED), very very average food and not so good service. Oh, also very very expensive. I had a non-veg thali - fancy presentation with a half crescent serving plate (tanduri, onion pakoda, butter chicken (doesn’t taste good), lamb curry (good taste), rice, chole (chickpeas, not tasty), palak-paneer (not tasty), payesam - I have never had payesam with raw kaju and raisins on top, dry-fruit was always cooked/boiled in milk) plus a ‘gate special naan’ and two glasses of red wine - my total bill was close to hundred Canadian! And then the service is… well, I am a tourist here in St. John’s, staying at a luxury hotel and very much love the service at my hotel restaurant. And I believe they get paid exactly the same as the server in India Gate. Appreciate if the owner brings some improvement in future. Loved the place, but it lacks the soul.

Food is good but 18% gratuity added automatically for 2 people is totally out of line in my opinion. I've seen this added for large tables but never for only 2 people, and 18% is above the norm. I won't return to this place again. You can get indian food just as good at multiple places in town for less than half of what you pay here (even before the outrageous mandatory tip).

I still have a pack of matches from the first time I was taken to India Gate. This place is near and dear to me and I have always made it one of my spots to eat when I came home to visit. Thankfully I live here now and I can frequent often! It's always a pleasure to eat here, as the food is so delicious and the service has always been fantastic. Try the butter chicken, it's definitely one of the best, but the pakoras... THE best anywhere. And I've been eating Indian food across Canada for more than decade. Thanks for being the best!!

Didn’t have a reservation but they were able to get us in. The papadam with the chutneys (mango and carrot) were not fit to eat. The food took a while to come out. The chicken wings had a nice taste to it. The tandoori chicken was delicious but the chicken korma was a bit bland. Would definitely come back

I wasn’t sure about going here based on some of the reviews, but I was extremely pleased that I did. The food and service were excellent, and the inside of the restaurant is much nicer than the outside. Yes, it is a little more expensive than you would pay in Vancouver or other big cities, but well worth the price. Overall, I was very impressed - great Indian food with exceptional service.

My favourite restaurant in the city. I have been going there since they started more than 25 years ago and I eat there as often as I can. So much amazing food. My favourite is always the butter chicken with basmati rice but they do a Mulligatawny soup that I have always enjoyed immensely. Oh, and do not forget the naan bread.

Our food took over an hour to come out and others that arrived later than us got their food and were finished before we even got our food. The portions are small for the price you are paying and the waiter was too busy to really spend any second on us until it came to the payment/tips. BUT the food is outstandingly delicious. If the service and portion size would be improved I would rate this 5 stars.

We all know good Indian food can be expensive. If it's not good food it could be considered very expensive. This place is very expensive. $24 for some of the smallest portion, least flavourful $12 Indian food I've ever had. Can't imagine where the stars are coming from. Take a pass, with me in the future.

Complimentary papadum with mango chutney and spicy carrot started the meal. All the food had great flavour. Served on plates which were hot to preserve the temperature of the food. Service was very attentive, yet discrete. The overall ambience of the place was relaxed and refined.

Slow service. Portions not logically sized. Overpriced. Gouging on price of rice.

Staff friendly and helpful. Packed on Friday night, but when we returned on Sunday night, there were lots of tables available. Tried a variety of vegetarian dishes. Garlic naan fresh and lovely. Chana masala and aloo gobi ok. Navratan curry veggies nicely cooked. Favourite dish at our table was Paneer Shahee. Sauce very creamy (not very tomato-ey) with whole cashews. 2 full size and 2 half size dishes fed our group of 4 mid-sized appetites perfectly.

(Translated by Google) Great restaurant! The food was excellent. Especially for vegetarians there is a high selection. Service was very nice and attentive. (Original) Klasse Restaurant! Die Speisen waren hervorragend. Gerade für Vegetarier gibt es eine risige Auswahl. Bedienung war sehr nett und aufmerksam.

Suprisingly Small portions and painfully slow food and service - our waitress spent more time folding napkins than she did attending to us - had to go get her to wrap up our meal. Regarding the food; after being seated we waited 15 minutes to get water and then waited over an hour for our food. Once we finally got the food we were happy that the sauces were delicious. However we were a bit surprised to see a baby carrot in the $6.00 ladle-sized side dish of vegetables. I imagine they were frozen vegetables based on how soggy they were. Regarding costs - it was quite expensive especially for the portion sizes. St. John's is expensive to eat out with Pad Thai at some places costs $28!!! So costs dont seem too far out of line.

If you love Indian food, this is a must! Possibly the best Indian cuisine I've had. If you don't know what to get, order the butter chicken special which comes with rice and a naan.

The food I had from here was fine, but nothing spectacular, but the price was very high. If you really want Indian food I would recommend it, but otherwise there are other options.

I must say the food was great but I have to say it is by far the most expensive I have have ever ever had. £126 pounds for 2 starters 2 mains and a bottle of wine. A mortgage is required

Place is okish. Friendly service and they explained all the dishes to us. Menu is limited. Food quality is good and good portion size, however it's expensive. Would not choose it again.

The food was bland, the meals were expensive , the interior restaurant was not as grand as portrayed in the video . Unfortunately the ambience of this restaurant was pretentious -needs to improve!!!!.

I spoiled my evening!! Even they put the price in side like numbers that customers couldn’t realise the price Vegetable thali £17.00 Just a lamb dish£18.00 Am shocked This is cheating!!!!!!! Food and service quality is 0000000 star. Also I view the rating of the restaurant before I want in it so good now am realised this is all fake and might be there own people!!!!! Don’t trust on it

Lovely Indian restaurant that is more street food style in its menu. All dishes were delicious! Would recommend!

If you are looking for authentic Indian food you would be disappointed. Had a take out yesterday for chicken vindaloo, chicken bhuna, and Navratna curry. Chicken vindaloo was a mash up of chicken, different vegetables (who puts veggies in a chicken dish) and watery curry. Not at all rich creamy curry full of Indian spices that I was expecting. Same goes for chicken bhuna, it is a dry dish with masala, not a curry. Navtrana curry was tasteless and runny. Also it's pricey compared to the quality and authenticity of the food. It does not live upto the standards set at other authentic Indian restaurant I have been too.

Consistently delicious food and excellent staff- especially Danielle! Prices are high but the quality backs it up. Comparable to India Gate restaurant in Istanbul- will return!

  • 3/5 Derian 2 years ago on Google
If you can look past the relatively high price, the quality of the food is certainly good. However, the service was beyond slow on the night myself and two others went. Without exaggeration, we were there for nearly three hours from sitting down to leaving. The good food is certainly not worth this wait.

Awesome place for both food and environment. The first ever Indian restaurant that I love in St. John’s. Staff is very friendly. Overall it was a great experience and this wasn’t my first time and won’t be, will visit soon for sure. Keep it up guys thanks🙌🏻

We love to go here when visiting St. John's. The food is delicious and our server Kelly on this occasion made our meal a pleasurable experience. Order the garlic Naan bread with your meal!

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Indian Gate this week. We were welcomed by friendly staff, who even provided my 5 year old daughter and I with cozy blankets because we chose to sit close to the door. The butter chicken, prawn saag, garlic naan and vegetable samosas were all delicious and presented beautifully. The customer service was exceptional. We would highly recommend Indian Gate to anyone visiting St. John’s.

Food is amazing, get the meal for two if you go with someone else - best bang for your buck for sure. Was able to take home enough for two lunches the next day and we left very full. Server was excellent but there were some delays on parts of our order and while we had agreed to leave in short order to get our reservation, the food took a while and we felt rushed to keep our commitment to leave by 7.

My girlfriend and I ate here the other night. We had an outstanding waiter named Dennis, who made us feel very welcome. Ice water was on our table before we even asked, and the service overall was exemplary. The lamb is incredible.

  • 1/5 Clyde C. 1 year ago on Google
Ordered the lamb biriyani and it was dry as a bone, no sauce with the lamb and very little Indian taste with just a basic curried rice. Very disappointed in the food myself considering the price paid. Big lack of flavor that was expected. Won't be back anytime soon. Note to future customers that they charge a 15% gratuity on the tax in price of the food, very unreasonable. Didn't notice this till we left the restaurant unfortunately. The chef should stew the lamb in a sauce to enhance the Indian spices into the meat in my opinion. I would rate this at 1/2 star if I could.

simply amazing and delicious, service is exceptional 👌 it's a bit more expensive than other Indian restaurants but it worth every penny, we tried the soup, samosa, vegetables pakora as appetizers and all were delicious, then we had the meal for 4 which we barely ate half of it. we have a good lunch for next day. service is exceptional, our waitress went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our dinner, couldn't ask for better food or service.

Take out order Placed a large order for supper with guests at my home. All dishs were hot and fresh. Absolutely delicious, bold flavors large portions. Kept the left over sauces from different Currys to serve over rice for lunch for 2 days after. If I had the income I could eat here 7 days a week. Never a disappointment.

👍👍 The food was fantastic and the service was top notch! Our server Nick was very attentive and great to chat with. The portions were definitely worth the price.....which was quite reasonable. The "cookie that ate the brownie" dessert (pictured) was awesome. The one small thing that I didn't quite like...
