This temple is situated 40 km from Coimbatore and about 14 km from Tirupur. Here Shiva is worshipped as Avinasiappar, and is represented by the lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Karunambigai. The temple has six daily rituals at various times from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and four yearly festivals on its calendar. The Brahmotsavam festival is celebrated during the day of the Magam (February – March) is the most prominent festival. The Pathiri tree blossoms only during Brahmotsavam and never before or later. As per Hindu legend, two boys of eight years of age took a dip in a tank when a crocodile swallowed one of them. Sundarar on his way to Tiruvanchikulam heard the incident and sung praises of Shiva in the temple. The boy was miraculously rescued from the clutches of a crocodile and this event is commemorated during the Mudalai Vaai Pillai Utsavam on Panguni Uththiram. There is a shrine to Sundarar on the banks of the temple tank. Since the boy came out of crocodile’s mouth, the place is called Pukkoliyur. Brahma is said to have worshipped the Shiva here for hundred years. The elephant of Indiran, Iravadham is said to have worshipped at this temple for twelve years.

One of the 276 padal petra sthalams. Very important temple of the Kongu region. Shiva here is self manifested. Ambal is Karunambigai. The lord is reffered as Avinashiappar (one who exists forever) and Perumkediliappar (one without an iota of bad quality). The temple is praised by Sundaramurthy Nayanar in Thevaram. It was here, with Shiva's grace he gave life to a small child who was swallowed by a crocodile. The temple is considered Dakshina Kasi, the Kasi of South India. The shrines of Kala Bhairav and Saneeswara are very special in this temple. Very easily accessible from Tiruppur, lots of buses available from Tiruppur Bus stand and railway station.

A temple to visit. One of the ancient temples in south India. The main deity is Lord Lingeshwarar. You can also see pancha bootha lingas (நிலம், நீர், காற்று, நெருப்பு, ஆகாயம்). Beautiful deity of Lord Muruga is here, it seems like as if he is standing there. Such a beautiful temple one must visit. The temple has a story of crocodile swallowing a kid and provide rebirth after 3 years hearing the song of Shri Sundaramoorthy Nayanar.

Age old temple with deep rooted history behind it. Would be good if priests can maintain the full pooja instead of shortening them.

The Tamil saying goes Kasi-Varanasi, he/she derives half of the benefits by worshipping Avinashilingeswara in Avinashi. Lord Avinashi Appar, Lord Bhairava and the holy water-Theertham- are brought from Kasi. Bathing in the Kasi well in the temple on new moon day-Amavasya brings manifold benefits to the devotee. There will be no interval closing of the temple on new moon days.
