Maybe this is good for Palm Spring, but the quality and size of the sushi did not match the premium price range. The menu shows the price per 1 sushi... which is not a problem if the sushi is good. Good sushi has a balance of the flavor of fish and the fresh flavor of the ocean. Bad cuts of sushi or olderyou can tell because it is unbalanced. The fish here was just not to par. It was just okay. The tempura was not made well. Good tempura is not oily and the size and color should remain firm and crunchy. This needs improvement. Overall, the sushi was okay, but did not match the premium price tag. I have found better sushi at cheaper places.

Excellent food and great attentive service! They follow all safety protocols here so you can be sure to have a good experience! I loved the Spicy Tuna Roll and the King Salmon Roll. The Ootoro was delicious and melted in my mouth. I love how peaceful the setting and music are. Very soothing colors and atmosphere! Thanks for the enjoyable experience!

Save your money and time, and eat elsewhere. This place was unacceptable. The restaurant wreaked of fishy odor, and the air temp was really warm, probably in the mid-70s. We arrived for dinner around 7pm, and while it wasn't crowded, the service was really slow. They had only one server. The miso soup was waaaay too salty. The sushi, sashimi, and rolls were underwhelming and overpriced. The fish in the sushi, and on the rainbow roll appeared like scraps, and were so shoddily assembled. The avocado on the rainbow roll was brown. The sashimi was thinly cut, sliced along the wrong grain, and falling apart. I don't know how all the other reviews are raving about this place, but it's a literal dump with unacceptably subpar food and service.

One thing any restaurant needs to do is compare what their patrons could get elsewhere for the same price. I have no huge objection to the food I was served, it was fine if not exceptional. For $50 I got one average glass of Chardonnay, a very small spider roll and four pieces of shrimp tempura. I do not have a huge appetite but actually left a little hungry. I dined as a single person and was not checked on once during the meal. From the get-go I was told that there would be a delay in getting my food as there was only one sushi chef serving the entire restaurant. I understand with Covid that it’s been difficult to hire people so I don’t hold that against the restaurant. I was informed. Unfortunately,I’m gonna take my 50 bucks and eat a lot better somewhere else next time.

We came here for sushi, visiting from Chicago. Upon arrival, we saw the highest prices we've ever seen on a menu. But, we thought we should give some items a try because of the great reviews. The sushi was average, we've had better sushi than this place for half the price. Food seemed rather lackluster, perhaps because of the authenticity (real Japanese food is supposed to be plain, bland and boring). Dragon roll was $26 for 8 pieces. I've had better rolls for half the price. We left the restaurant hungry. We saw a makeshift tent selling tacos on our way back and grabbed that to fill our bellies. Taka shin was bad value for the money! Not kid friendly, there were no changing tables in the bathroom. Perhaps it's not the place for families.

Excellent service and almost everything is really delicious. Our favorites were the Green Mussels w/dynamite sauce and the Chilean Sea Bass Miso Yaki. The only disappointing dish is the chicken breast (Taking) in the Bento Box (it's dry), but other than that this is a really yummy experience :)

After years of hearing this restaurant from my Japanese patient who also works there, my spouse and I finally went there this evening for our authentic Japanese fix! This is because we have been researching a ryokan in Kyoto/Tokyo area in our upcoming 2-weeks Japanese cruise with Silversea in Spring 2023 for Sakura appreciation. It is of course delayed from this past Spring due to COVID. We are accustomed to authentic Japanese cuisine, having visited Japan many times for my spouse, lived in South Bay Torrance, where many Japanese business people live. Moving to the desert and finding quality Asian cuisine is always a challenge. Fortunately, this is not the case for Japanese sushi anymore. If you are looking for REAL JAPANESE sushi restaurant, this is it! Tonight, we started the dinner with Asaki clam miso soup, shrimp/veggie tempura, chawanmushi. For entree, my spouse had toro, hamachi, albacore sashimi and I had Taka Shin special Chirashizushi. We were so impressed with the quality that we added soft shell crab karaage and miso seabass. Pros: food quality is superb. The clam miso soup is fresh and umami, and tempura is as good as a tempura bar at Shinjuku train station. Chawanmushi was a pleasant surprise with gelatin-like texture with creamy egg plus all sort of seafood and meat. Toro was as smooth as butter while my sashimi quality was equally great. What sold me on this restaurant is their sushi rice which most restaurant can’t get it right. Of course, the soft shell crab too was awesome. I thought the miso seabass is more flavorful than the one served on Crystal cruise Nobu restaurant. I also enjoy Japanese inspired background music and minimal contemporary design with few photos reminding our good memory in Japan: Gold Pagoda in Kyoto, wild school of cranes in Hokkaido, red Shinto temple gate, etc. Cons: I have not found one yet. Cost: it’s a bit pricey but expected for this top notch quality. We already are thinking about returning next week with friends. Kudos to the team! Ichiban desu!

Excellent sushi and service. The place is a little understated in terms of decor, but you get what you came there for, namely, very good sushi without a lot of fanfare. Definitely one of the better places for sushi that I've been to in Palm Springs, if not the best.

Fantastic food, fantastic and timely service, very relaxing atmosphere. We love sushi; Taka Shin is one of the best in the country (and the VERY best in the Coachella Valley).

The food is great but it's just way too expensive. There are other sushi places with the same quality of food, but 1/2 the price.

Calm ambiance, dishes came out in a timely fashion. Sushi, rolls, and tempura were prepared with care and precision! High quality fish! Recommend the vegetable tempura, rainbow roll, and assorted sushi. No imitation crab here! They use REAL crab.

Get up get in get out get it get get get it. The secretary of the interior sat in the booth behind us and would not stop talking about how water is the new black. Meaning I presume that water has become a commodity worth hyping beyond its weight. And at 7lbs. per gallon perhaps we should refer to water like we refer to gasoline. What super power has the most water? How much like by volume of raw tuna is water? And how does that water taste so good.

Unassuming little sushi spot. The service made me feel like a king. The server was a capital P.R.O. - his attitude and demeanor and attention is as good as the finest dining restaurants. Would love to come back here next time I'm in Palm Springs.

If you’re looking for an excellent Japanese restaurant without all the fanfare, this place is for you. Our meal was fresh and delicious. The server was attentive and courteous. I highly recommend the Chirasi bowl- it was filled deep with a variety of fresh fish. Enjoy!

Unbelievable expensive. They are so money centric. Extra wasabi, soy paper costs more. 1 order of Niguri is one small piece. Tasty but not worth the cost. Average cost for 1 piece of Niguri is 8 to 10 dollars. Least expensive Saki $50. Two people $300 Will never go back.

When we entered, the place was filled with a strong smell of chlorine. The tables were positioned very close to the bathrooms as it's a small establishment. The sushi bar's refrigerator had fewer pieces of fish. The portions were smaller than the usual serving size. I ordered a seaweed salad and a shrimp tempura appetizer, both of which were incredibly small and thin, almost the size of my finger. We also ordered a rainbow roll and a California roll, but they were not well-made. As soon as you picked up a piece, it would break apart because they used half the normal paper. You can see it in the picture, and it made it difficult to enjoy each bite. On the positive side, the fish and crab were fresh and of good quality. Another issue was in the kitchen; one of the employees wasn't wearing a hairnet and had all his hair exposed, while another had a cap on backward. Additionally, I witnessed one of the waiters touch the placemats, and I didn't see him wash his hands afterward. My overall experience was not the best, and the waiter kept explaining that the sushi chef was facing delays with his orders.

Had a wonderful experience! Old Palm Springs meet Japan. The food was astonishing and the service was great! I never had fresher salmon sushis in my life. Would recommend a 100%.

Top class. This is NOT an Americanized sushi restaurant. Please do not come here and leave a one star review because they did not have a cream cheese or steak roll for you.
