The
Windy
City
is
known
for
its
variety
of
excellent
dining
options,
from
classic
steak
houses
to
ethnic
neighborhood
joints.
El
Faro
Restaurant
is
a
perfect
example
of
the
latter.
Located
in
East
Pilsen,
this
authentic
Mexican
seafood
spot
is
a
gem
for
those
looking
to
experience
The
Chi's
vibrant
Latino
culture.
As
soon
as
I
walked
in,
I
was
transported
to
a
bustling
beach
town
on
the
Pacific
coast
of
Mexico.
Bright
decor,
tile
floors,
smiling
staff
-
it
immediately
felt
like
a
little
slice
of
the
homeland.
The
dinner
crowd
was
diverse,
a
reflection
of
Pilsen's
community.
At
the
bar,
locals
chatted
in
Spanish
while
sipping
Micheladas.
For
appetizers,
we
shared
Camarones
al
Mojo
de
Ajo
-
plump
shrimp
simmered
in
garlic
butter.
So
fresh
and
flavorful,
it
got
our
taste
buds
ready
for
the
main
dishes
to
come.
I
ordered
the
Pescado
Veracruzano,
a
whole
red
snapper
baked
with
tomatoes,
olives,
and
capers.
Lightly
crisp
skin
gave
way
to
moist
flaky
white
meat.
What
an
amazing
representation
of
classic
Veracruz-style
cooking
here
in
the
City
in
a
Garden.
Plenty
of
nearby
landmarks
provide
entertainment
before
or
after
a
meal
at
El
Faro.
Take
a
stroll
through
historic
Pilsen
and
check
out
the
colorful
murals.
Or
head
to
the
Art
Institute
to
see
famous
works
by
local
artists
like
Grant
Wood.
Wherever
the
wind
takes
you
next
in
Chicagoland,
be
sure
to
save
room
for
the
home
cooking
at
this
local
treasure.
