Experienced this as part of a circular tour from my hotel. Good experience as managed to see some water monitor lizards on the boat trip. Felt like I was traveling down Amazon with the vegetation on both banks.

Being developed as a tourist attraction in Negombo. Was used as a means of transport during the colonial period and is of historical significance. Fishermen still use it as a exit point to the Negombo lagoon. It needs to be cleared from oil polution from boats and plastics floating downstream.

Should travel with caution by the roads because there is no safety barrier.

Oldest and very important canal system in Sri Lanka. Still holds a vast range of duties. Still using and has a significant value.
