This is an amazing place to go for a hike. With a waterfall only 2.5 miles from the entrance, feeding a stream which flows all the way out, the trails are lush and gorgeous. Regularly crossing the stream, with only boulders and logs to help traverse, the trails provide an enjoyable experience. I'd recommend good balance and a staff to help on the journey. The air is cool and crisp, due to the fresh cold waters. With approximately 50 feet elevation change from entrance to fall, the hike is a gradual incline with only a few areas to climb up or down. Most steep inclines have alternate paths, though perhaps a bit more precarious, provide a route for those who have a difficult time climbing. Expect to encounter a good number of people navigating the path with you, as this seems to be a very popular destination. If you enjoy taking nature photos, be ready to have ample opportunities.

It was a great and fun trail. Only 2 miles each way so not it’s great if you don’t have a lot of time but want your hike & nature fix. As you approach the waterfall, the trail gets very rocky and you have to cross several streams - so fun! The waterfall is lovely and on a hot day you could jump in to cool down. Definitely recommend! 💯

Wow! What an adventure! Hike is around 4 miles round trip from the nature center to the falls. Keep in mind, depending on what season you choose to hike, you may have to do several crossings in the creek. I went on April 1st, and the water level was freezing and as high as knee deep! No joke. Be careful and come prepared. But the falls are worth seeing for sure. Try to avoid the weekends because it is very packed. Restrooms are at the nature center. When you are done with the hike, check out the nature center and small gift shop. Free admission and parking.

I have been going to Eaton canyon falls off and on for most of my life. It is a great place to go for a relatively easy hike. I do recommend bringing water for the entire hike and making sure that you know what trail to stay on. The first part is a deserts somewhat flat trail and then you get into the more green area when you get close to the stream. After that it is beauty all the way. The waterfall is such a nice reward at the end being nice and cool. I'm sure the water is cold and some will take a dip but it is such a peaceful place. Gotta love the wildlife too.

Are you chasing waterfalls! If you want an easy trail, but a bit of a longer hike, 3 miles round trip, then you’ll love this trail. In the summer it can be shady. There’s a creek along the trail with about 10 crossings. The 40-foot falls is beautiful! Great for families. There’s many other trails connecting, like Henninger Flat Trails. During our hike we were fortunate to see deers grazing on the hills. Lots of free parking, including an overflow lot and street parking. There’s a nature center you can visit before or after your hike where you can see live animals, like snakes and reptiles.

A fun hike & great views. Recommend it. Love nature & all it's beauty! As you can tell, I found many gorgeous sightings & had to capture them. A bit rocky but there are flat dirt trails to follow for the most part. Wear good hiking shoes, your feet will/might get wet at some point. On a cool day this hike is amazing. When hot, not so great in my opinion. Plenty of shaded spot but not as enjoyable with the crisp water & waterfall views. Oh and stay on the trails! Easy to explore one way and then it's too hard to climb all the rocks surrounding you. Be careful & have fun! It's a good beginners hike/walk.

An awe inspiring waterfall at the end of a winding trail, what more could you ask for!? Some advice; the trail as shown on maps runs parallel to the creek - this is NOT the case. The trail crosses over and through the creek dozens of times. Bring water shoes!

Easy hike down to a lovely waterfall. Lots of people and dogs on an April weekend, so certainly not serene. However, it’s unique to have access to such a large waterfall in Southern California. When we were there, a couple even canyoneered down the waterfall! We picked up five plastic water bottles on the way out, and there were more that we could have snagged if we had more hands. PLEASE pack out your trash/recycling with you.

Parking: free. If you park in the neighborhoods, they might be packed and take a while to find parking and it's only good for 2 hours and only on weekdays. The gate closest to the bridge is only open during day time and looks closed but you just push it open. To get to the waterfall the safest way, you cross the bridge and follow the path down to the creek and walk under the bridge. If you go this route this is the only real steep hill you walk up and down. The hike is mostly flat but very rugged terrain. Your will get your shoes wet. To get to the fall you need to either jump on stones or cross the logs, or wade through the water SEVERAL times. If you have walking problems this is not the hike for you. Some climbing is also required. The trail does have some bees also. Overall, it's a fairly short hike to see a waterfall, not the most accessible waterfall but definitely one of the easier ones to get to. It took us just under 2 hours to do the whole thing. Tons of people brought their dogs and elementary school aged kids There are no restroom. Obviously nothing suitable for handicapped. Don't recommend bringing babies.

The hike was such a treat. About 2 mile hike and half of it you can enjoy the sound of running water from the creeks. Bring water shoes or waterproof shoes because you gonna have to cross the creeks many times as you can see in the photos.

Lovely place for a nice hike and good ending for a nice waterfall. Best to go in winter after rains. Summer to be avoided. Trail was beginner level. You could either step on the rocks or go all in the water if you don't care much.

Always a fun hike! Even take the small pups. They LOVE it! Brings out their inner mountain-goat. Unfortunately, the water level was extremely low. The river is completely dry in most spots and the pond below the falls was only ankle deep.

This is one of my favorite trails in the area. Here is a detailed description of it that I found on AllTrails. I could not describe it better. "Eaton Canyon Trail is a relatively easy hike to a 40-foot waterfall and small pool with views of the San Gabriel Mountains and Santa Monica Mountains. Its proximity to Pasadena, Altadena, and Santa Monica make this a very popular trail for casual hikers in Los Angeles. The trailhead can get very crowded on the weekends and those hot California summer days, but it's worth a visit even if you have to fight through crowds. The journey is especially beautiful when spring wildflowers carpet the lower portions of the canyon floor of the Eaton Canyon Natural Area. As one of the most popular hiking trails in this part of Los Angeles County, this trail definitely sees its fair share of usage. Always be sure to follow the ‘leave no trace’ principles and pack out everything you pack in. The excellent Eaton Canyon Nature Center is located near the parking lot and features great exhibits and free presentations for those who are interested. It includes public restrooms inside. This family-friendly Southern California trail will be easy for most, although it gets more rugged the closer you get to the waterfall. The trail only has a few hundred feet of elevation gain, but there are several stream crossings and areas of boulder-hopping and rock climbing on the way to Eaton Canyon Falls. Nevertheless, this fantastic trail is manageable for most people. Enjoy this 4.4-mile out-and-back trail near Pasadena, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 48 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash."

The trail is easy, the hard part is to get to the waterfall. It is not indicated and we had to ask several people. There’s lots of rocks and it is easy to fall into the water. The waterfall is really nice. It took around 3h to go an back.

Expect a lot of people! Haha. The kids enjoyed the river crossings. The waterfall is beautiful just expect many people to enjoy it with you. Lots of rocks on the 2nd half of the trail. The first half is very exposed to the sun . Bring water!!!

I hate to spill the goods, but this is my favorite hike in LA. It’s like a poor man’s Narrows (Zion). Takes more than an hour to walk to the waterfall there and back - you cross the stream back and forth throughout the hike. It’s a little uphill with a scramble or too but nothing crazy steep. The water is quite shallow and lends a fun challenge to a normal hike. Waterfall at the end is fresh and cold - I dare you to jump in. The hike is very kid and dog friendly. The path gets insanely crowded on the weekends - try to go on an off time (midday weekday) for a more relaxing experience.

Great low incline hike with plenty of parking at the trailhead. This is a fun and easy hike to do for people of all ages. If you're short on time you can stop anywhere along the stream and enjoy a spot that seems like it's nowhere near a major metropolis. If you're adventurous, go all the way to the falls by crossing back and forth over the rocks (or wear water shoes) on the winding trail. Bring a towel so that you can take a swim or have a seat and just enjoy a hidden gem.

It is a good place for hiking and seeing the waterfall views. Even the waterfall is small but we can enjoy the creek and view of nature along the walking path.

Amazing place all around. 2 miles walk to the waterfall from the parking. Free parking. Stay on the trail because there are rattle snakes 🐍. Dogs are welcome but they must be on leash. Better go during the week if possible because the weekend gets to crowded. 7am-7pm summer time but still saw people getting there after 7pm.

We loved it. It is quite long hike, be prepared to get wet because you have to cross multiple running water-way to waterfall. Finally, we decided walk through water 🤣🤣 The hike I would say not too hard, it took us about 1.5-2 hours round trip. Very crowded but nice.

Been coming here since I was a kid. It’s great to see the river flowing again after the recent rain fall. Weekends tend to be packed so go early. Make sure your wearing proper athletic or hiking shoes to prevent ankle injuries. The nature center has some nice things for kids to see. You can also buy some souvenirs & donate to Eaton Canyon. Great to have such a nice hiking area in the SGV area. General hiking rule is to leave no trace so keep your trash with you & don’t litter.

Lovely hike!! There's plenty of small streams. It's fun rock skipping or stepping into the water. With the multiple streams and mini waterfalls , a nice cooling effect will be added to the hike. Came here Friday after Thanksgiving, and it wasn't too crowded. It's a dog friendly hike. Absolute plus! It's less than 3 miles in and out of the loop. Great way to be outdoors

Definitely worth the hike to the waterfalls. Make sure you bring good hiking shoes that are waterproof. It gets slippery. Watch out for dog and horse poop. Also watch out for snakes it’s really really beautiful hike.

Really thought I would be able to hike from the beginning of the trail to the waterfall without getting wet or falling - didn't happen. I slipped and fell once, and got my shoes wet at least two times. My spouse and I did our best with traversing the rocks in the riverpath. Think we spent an hour to get from the gate to the Eaton Canyon Falls, and then we relaxed for about 20 minutes and then hiked back. We really enjoyed it as it challenged us and was our most adventurous hike together to date.

Best hike in LA that isn't so difficult but also has some beautiful moments. Went 04/24/2023 and because of recent rain and weather I think the park was "closed" people were still walking in (we did) and it was so much fun. The little river that runs through the whole hike was in full effect there was no way to get through the hike without getting your shoes wet so if you go soon make sure you take some shoes you don't mind messing up. I took my 5 year old son and he was able to handle the whole trail back and forth with no difficulty; he as a matter of fact loved it.. he loved that he was trekking through the river and it's currents. Occasionally he would stop to throw rocks, but I can he say he genuinely loved the experience, requested we take him back everyday. We ran into a rattlesnake honestly not sure how dangerous they are, but we also though it was a super cool encounter added to the adventure. This is probably my 5th time going to Eaton Canyon Falls and everytime is great, but something about the water overtaking everything made it so much more fun. Would definitely recommend this spot and will definitely be going back.
