The custom house is one of my favourite places to eat out in cardiff, I love the Sunday roast and for the quality and service I think it is good value. Perfect place for a celebration! Every time I have been it has been busy the atmosphere is bustling but the food has always been quick but not rushed! The food is delicious I will definitely be back! It’s also a good place to stop for a drink on the sunny terrace when the weather is good!

Pick your own meat, plenty of sides reasonably priced for how delicious the food is. Not my first visit, I’ve been several times over the past 4 /5 years and has been consistent on every visit worth a visit if your in Cardiff

Good service, lovely food but not my preferred way to order a meal. Have to queue up like a school canteen and pick what you want to eat from the options written on a wall. Not a lot of thinking time especially if people are behind you waiting their turn. Extensive wine list if you know your wines - I don't. Price wise on a par with Millar and carter.

It's very difficult to find a restaurant that will cook you a blue steak. Not only a blue steak but it has incredible quality and is sourced from local farms. It certainly is worth the expense and it's a challenge to find a restaurant to match this in Cardiff.

It was my first time coming here today. Whilst they are lovely and the views are gorgeous I haven't tried the menu as of yet. The service from the guys was lovely. They are dog friendly in the beer garden and the grounds are kept very smart. The only slight issue is they are not very accessible. With a step down to the main part of the beer garden and the layout of the tables not easy to get around in the wheelchair I would not be able to come here on my own. They do have parking and a very nice bar area. Heated lamps outside as well for evenings.

The Custom House is by far one of the best restaurants in Cardiff. The atmosphere and decor is lovely and the location for views especially at night time. The food is lovely also and the 2 course menu is great value for money. I like the whole go to the counter and choose your food it's a nice little touch. The staff are always smart and very friendly. To me the place is flawless. You won't be disappointed. Been my favourite restaurant for years.

Had a fantastic meal ,the service was also extremely good, We sat outside on the Sun Terrace and the Sun was shining.Will return again soon.

Great location for lunch or dinner. Free parking if you are dining at the restaurant. Great selection of food cooked to order. I really like the idea of this place and actually going up to the seafood counter and choosing your meal. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good selections of wine too.

Very good steak, prices I'd expect to pay but the chips felt more like chip shop chips if I'm totally honest. Great customer services though, staff polite and helpful.

Friend and I went to The Old Custom House for a lunch. Restaurant is situated in historic building (there are 2 restaurants) , with a stunning outdoor terrace overlooking Cardiff marina, surrounded by plants around the tables . Spanish theme. We enjoyed delicious food, wine and the views. Very enjoyable afternoon.

Came here for a Christmas dinner but it was quite disappointed. Service: the table staff are friendly and helpful however this is different for staff behind the counter. I was keen to order Mediterranean fish soup but when I asked what’s in the soup your staff is not happy to answer my questions. This is a basic thing and they don’t even asked whether you are allergic to any ingredients. Food: Ordered the fish soup but to be honest it is just a tomatoes based soup with a lot of onions and peppers. I have been told there are some fish inside but only two pieces of mussels nothing else. All you can taste are onions and peppers. Avoid! On main courses I ordered tuna steak and all I can taste is the salt. It’s very salty and I have to keep drinking water. Bear in mind this is a restaurant that don’t serve tap water. You have to pay for bottle water. Overall: As other have mentioned this is an overrated restaurant with simple food. While I think the seafood is fresh, it was just not properly prepared.

Excellent service and superb food await you in this delight of a culinary experience. The old custom House provides the perfect backdrop to what is an excellent meal. The waiting staff are attentive but not overbearing and the food selection is wonderful. Every dish a party in the mouth. Certainly worth a visit. --- Update - so good I went back three days later!

Our family shared one of the happiest, most delicious, meals out here, that i can remember. The staff are passionate, the restaurant food counter is beautifully presented and the food is exquisitely prepared, and all at a really quite reasonable price point. Their focus seems to be on simple food done to perfection, and they are down-to-earth enough to have a salad bar. As someone who is gluten free, GF, I really appreciated that there was very little I couldn't eat. There is free parking outside the restaurant and they even have an electric car charger (albeit an expensive one). Next time we are in Cardiff we'll defininely make the effort to drop by again!

Booked a table last minute after previous venue wasn't suitable...lovely restaurant, with pleasant atmosphere. Excellent food counter displays( fish, salad etc. ) Four of us had the 'Festive Menu'( 2 courses £35) Two lamb dinners & 2 turkey(with all the trimmings) dinners, all delicious & tender. Excellent food, but only a 4* review because there was NO vegan option for dessert whatsoever, which spoilt an otherwise pleasant night....beware, they charge £6 for the 'bread option' with the starter!

We visited on a Sunday in October after pre booking, we’ve fancied visiting for a while but never got around to it and I was a little put off by the reviews stating bad service. I’m glad we visited because our meal was excellent from start to finish. We were welcomed at the door and offered a seat at the bar while we waited for our table, we waited for a small while to be served but our table was ready when we did. My wife had a Sunday lunch and I had a fillet steak, my wife said the Sunday lunch was the nicest one she’d had for a while. The fillet steak was excellent, really nice size for a fillet, really tender, tasty and perfectly cooked to my order. We shared the pate starter and had a bread basket, the pate was lovely and so was the bread. The broccoli side I had was very nice, cooked with chilli and garlic and so was the pepper sauce I had with the steak. We had a bottle of the Marques de Riscal Verdejo and a couple of glasses of Piper Champagne, both very nice. The service was excellent throughout, from the greeting to the table service and the guy behind the ordering counter, very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The building is very nice too, nicely decorated, bustling with activity but plenty of space around the tables. Including the alcohol I mentioned the bill was around £130 including a tip. We will definitely be back.

Very impressed. 1st visit and already book in. Food was perfect. The goat cheese starter was delicious. Salmon was cooked to perfection. Cheesecake to finish.Reasonable priced. Huge wine choice. Later enjoyed the outdoor space. Can't wait to go back

Such lovely restaurant! Great location, atmosphere and food. Really nice experience going to the counter to choose your food. We have been a few times for special occasions and have never been disappointed!

First impressions it was a fabulous looking place, the staff were professional and friendly. But I was disappointed to find you had to go to the open kitchen and check out a board to decide what you wanted and order at the counter, for the prices asked I would have expected a menu on the table so you could take your time choosing. The food was cooked well, I ordered venison in a peppercorn sauce but I couldn't taste the venison. Their creme brulee was to die for.

Right let's start with good points...food was excellent can't fault it it always is and such a beautiful place. The not so good points were the staff weren't the most happiest they were miserable. My friends vegetables came out after she had nearly finished her food. The bill wasn't done correctly charged us for 2 desserts and sides we didn't have. Would recommend as long as you can overlook not so good service.

Recently had a lovely meal at the custom House, it was my mother's 80th birthday. The food was excellent, and the setting is lovely. However, I cannot give a 5 star review for a couple of reasons which unfortunately did put a slight dampness on our visit, with two disabled persons in our party, it would have been very helpful for either the waiters to run through the board menu, or to bring over just a couple of printed menus. I was surprised to see they are still queuing for the menu, whilst being so busy, this is not only bad the the possible spread of covid-19, but it was very annoying that we were asked to move out of the way of the kitchen door, which is mid queue, but as I mentioned, we did have a lovely time and the food was excellent.

Fabulous food ambience and staff. Set menu was great value. Huge portions. Wine delicious Our 11 year old also enjoyed the the experience .

Good location, good food. This was the best meal we had in Cardiff. Well cooked on site as opposed to brought in from a factory. The place had a good buzz our only criticism was the surly waiter who needs to have some training in manners and hospitality. Not sure if we dined at the Porto or Marina.

We had a very special private event in La Marina and were incredibly impressed with the amazing staff, their ‘can do’ attitude and commitment to their craft was remarked upon by everybody who attended, nothing was a problem. The food was fantastic, the quality, phenomenal and the presentation surpassed our expectations. We can not thank the team at The Old Custom House enough for making a very stressful day incredibly special.
