One of the best places to study and work in Munich. Either you are Schüler, Student or Working Students, you can use the place here just manage to be quiet. The desk were very fancy and the internet was superb (eduroam with access from uni). The bookshelves were very instagramable. Absolutely great idea if you’re bored with home office or wfh stuff! You can feel study with others not forever alone. Just don’t forget to reserve the place in website. If you’re thirsty just bring your bottle and if you’re hungry they have cafeteria with big meals so affordable open til 19. The reading room workplace open until 22. 💪🏻😀

Bavarian State Library in Germany is a prestigious and large library with a remarkable collection. It features a beautiful blend of classical and modern architecture. Some of the staff is rude, the majority of employees are knowledgeable and helpful. Despite this, the library remains a valuable resource for researchers and scholars. The Bavarian State Library is a paradise for book lovers and researchers. With its vast collection, stunning architecture, and helpful staff, it offers a rich intellectual experience. Accessing materials can be complex, but the overall grandeur and richness make it a haven for scholars and enthusiasts.

One of the best libraries in Munich. Comfortable, quiet, spacious, closes at midnight, and opens almost every day. Quite busy during weekend mornings. Might have to come early to get a place if it's exam dates.

Very spacious place for studying. But you must lock your stuff in lockers including heavy jacket, which is quite inconvenient..

It’s well organised. There are a lot of spots for reading/studying: good thing is that the tables are single so you won’t be bothered by your neighbour! :) Usually open till midnight, if you’re planning to read/study you’ll be allowed in only with transparent bags and transparent water bottles (no tumblers). There are lockers right after the entrance and also a cafeteria.

Borrowing books is organised well during the pandemic. However, it would be more pleasing if staff members could be friendlier especially to those who visit the library for the first time (and tend to be unfamiliar to all the rules/measurements)

It would be an idiotic choice even to have a slight connection to this place. For gods sake we are living in 21st century and Germany’s 3rd biggest city, not some barbaric Bavarian village where everyone speaks Bayrisch and still worships the König. If they fear that books might be stolen, the just add electronic labels or do something else rather than treating every visitor as thieves. Maybe that’s Bayern.

The customer service here is very rude, not accommodating and very disrespectful. The lady was super racist. Just because I'm not very knowledgeable in German, I was treated with the utmost disrespect, they made sure to show their dislike and the hassle of dealing with foreigners/non-germans hoping they'll never show up again. I highly recommend not attending this racist place. This is a library that MUST show respect toward all its communities yet I was prejudiced against. I was there on Friday, 01.04 at 4:30pm. She was an older lady, around 55 years old.

I've only used this library as a place to study, and it was great for that. The staff aren't very friendly, but the atmosphere is nice to stay concentrated for long periods of time.

My UK vaccination pass was enough to get me into Germany, but not enough to get me into this library. It must be a very special place...

10/10 would come again. Wish I didn't have to though. During the weekends by 9 it's already quite full (at least during the exam period). After lunch it starts to empty again.

Impressive building, friendly and competent staff. Due to redundant paper(!)work inefficient and analogue enrolment process.

You need vaccination to get inside the building. Impossible to bring books back without 'full vaccination' certificate. May I leave the books here anywhere in the entrance area to give it back to the library I asked. No! You have to Send the Books in by Post to give them back. Bureaucratic stupidity at its best. Scanning, reading, working inside was nearly impossible the last few months before this new regulation now. (1st of Sep 2021) Look very very quick for full alternatives to this library if you really needed it for your work. They really do not want people to come inside. The Books of the Library reading room are nearly inaccessible now. I think Bavarian State Library is just history now on. It has become more like a State Archive than a scientific library you can work in. Only the slow postal books services and the copy services are available and usable now. At high costs and with many many totally useless and fully senseless bureaucratic regulations. Many books might not be copied by the copy service because of so called "general copyright restrictions". You have to bring a "official proof" of copyright to get the real expensive copies of the copy service now. All Books after 1870 undergo this rule now, they told me. So better you buy the books at Amazon, E-Bay etc This is Very Much easier, faster, nicer, smarter than playing "Hide and Seek" with German "Beamten" for weeks till they tell you in the end to buy the books at Amazon, E-Bay etc because of the copyright restrictions of the copy service of the library.

best place to study in Munich, with a nice atmosphere where study halls facing the backyard with trees. study hall is open to public but requires membership and reservation. internet is really nice (>100mbps up/down, low ping) backpacks and coats are not allowed in study hall, and should be left in the lockers on the ground floor. (contrary to many places in Munich) staff is very friendly borrowing book is only possible by order&pickup, there is no shelves full of books to have a look. study hall is closed between 4-4:30pm for reasons not obvious to me so far

Impressive building. I was only visiting Munich on business but needed somewhere quiet to work. I used the "plaza" area (which was the only area available to me). Subsequently, I discovered the Deutsches Museum library - I found that to be much more welcoming and a far superior place to sit and work.

Generous opening times for the study areas once you've registered. It also has a small nice café. Good place to work and study once in a while

The registration process was very difficult. There was not any rule when waiting in the queue. Someone who came after us was served and they then told us that they do not have time for us. This is unfair. The employees in the registration were not helpful and friendly at all.

The building is very nice. The Atmosphere is also quiet and calm. However the system of the library is quite weird in my opinion. So the registration process went pretty good. I’ve got my card without any problems. I came here to read books about certain subject so I wanted to get into Lesesaal. But no. Without any reservation you can’t even look for any books. So I went to the reading room for Music and Art. The staff who sat inside asked me what I am doing so I answered „To find books.“ She asked „Did you reserve your seat?“I said “No. I didn’t know about that.” The room was empty as hell. She stared me if I were some weirdo so I went away. After that experience I made a reservation online for the main Lesesaal for the next day because that day was already fully booked. On the next day I came here again with the hoping that I could find the book I‘m looking for. The Lesesaal was very quiet and there was many people studying. Nobody was looking for books. The bookshelf looked pretty empty in my opinion. The books are sorted in subjects and most of them are academic books. As someone who’s not the student of LMU I needed books about specific themes and not only theoretical books. For my subject they had less than 50 books and none of them were helpful. So I wanted to go to the Zeitschriftenlesesaal but of course I couldn’t enter because I didn’t make a reservation for that room. Probably my perception of library is wrong for this. To me a library is where you look for books and borrow them. This library put studying students in much higher priority than actual people coming here to finding books. This is more like university library which is weird because its a public library.

The man working at the entry to the library (15th of October) was incredibly rude and unhelpful. Very disappointing that such a beautiful library has such unkind staff.
