Pretty charming place. Rooms are spacious and during these times it's of great value. If you've never been to an oriental chinese traditional style hotel. This would be the place for you. A total opposite of the Edison across the road which is very colonial. Worth a visit.

Beautiful, historically significant mansion with pleasant rooms and a top-notch breakfast. Even though our afternoon tea reservation was little delayed, it wasn't a big deal because the tea itself was delicious. Beautiful architecture and pleasant stay - to stay here is a bit like staying in a museum. High ceilings and antique furniture. I recommend Indigo as the perfect venue to host private events. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is relaxing, the interior deco is lovely & the staff are friendly & helpful

Highly recommend Indigo as the perfect venue to host private events. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is relaxing, the interior deco is lovely & the staff are friendly & helpful. Our guests enjoy the event very much! Our stay at Ming Room is equally satisfying. The room is spacious, comfy & very "heritage". And definitely a big thanks to Mr. Daniel who helps to coordinate our private event! It is a pleasant & memorable experience for the both of us~*

Note that this review is solely on “the Bar”, as I didn’t stay at the hotel. But let me tell you, everything about this place made me wish that I had stayed here. I came here just to explore the house, the gorgeous house with amazing interior and traditional Chinese architecture and that didn’t disappoint. I went to the Bar and ordered a drink and ended up having a chat with Daniel the hotel manager and he was the best. Super friendly and answered all the questions I had of the house. He was also gracious enough to let me into the courtyard where the rooms are for me to explore and see how beautiful it is inside, at night. With the mysterious red lanterns against the electric blue walls, it gave me a bit of a chill. Absolutely stunning . The entire house consist of 2 restaurants, rooms to stay at , a walkthrough museum. I went through the history of this house and can easily understand why it’s been featured in so many movies (including Crazy Rich Asian) I will definitely be back here, to try out indigo or even stay in one of the rooms!

We loved our guided tour! Such a beautiful building with rich history. Our tour guide was insightful and lovely. It was however frustrating that she was rudely interrupted by an outsider tour group multiple times... they shouldn't be allowed to operate while genuine tours are in progress. Also a shout out to the member of staff who offered to take photos of my family! He really went above and beyond to get the perfect shot!

What a seemless check-in experience. Staff was friendly and efficient. Right from the entrance, the staff came to get the bags. Check in staff was all smiles and made the process quick and easy. Next day's breakfast was also made to make it convenient. Rooms are spacious, clean and our room had access to the pool too from the room. Family friendly. Shower room was clean and well equipped with all your needs.

Wonderful 3 night stay at The Blue Mansion. Rooms are spacious & well equipped. Helpful friendly staff. Lovely cocktails in the courtyard bar. Mangga Restaurant serves good food and has nightly music. Blue Mansion had been wonderfully restored. One of my favourite hotels worldwide.

the amount of work they’ve put into restoring this place…just…wow. Mom stayed here for a night and said the beds were a little hard, but overall the stay was fantastic. She absolutely loved the staff and made friends with a few folks (pictures below) who she said went above and beyond to make her time incredible. We went on a tour the next morning and learning about the history of the place makes it even more interesting. Beautiful grounds and in a great location, if you want a unique experience highly recommend!

Beautiful, historically significant mansion with pleasant rooms and a top-notch breakfast. Even though our afternoon tea reservation was little delayed, it wasn't a big deal because the tea itself was delicious. The location was excellent for exploring Georgetown, and we appreciated that we could park our car right at the front door. We relished the delectable kuih that was provided in the rooms and appreciated being able to refill our water bottles at the water machine. This is such a green way to keep visitors hydrated. The house tour that was provided was excellent.

We spent 3 nights here and I found the whole atmosphere to be magical. Every inch of the hotel breathes history and yet it feels very comfortable in terms of amenities. We spent quite some time filming and photographing every interesting detail but the space is just amazing. I would like to commend all the service staff for being professional and prompt in service. I found the GuZheng player most professional and excellent. On our second evening, we found the lone player in an empty courtyard. He played as if to a full house audience! Overall, a great experience and we will come back again to try staying in a different room.

Beautiful architecture and pleasant stay - to stay here is a bit like staying in a museum. High ceilings and antique furniture. As there are many original features, expects some quirks. The courtyards are lovely for relaxing in with a cool drink and a book. As is the swimming pool area. Staff were efficient and helpful. Great to see drinking water in glass instead of plastic bottles. Likewise, I appreciated the full size toiletries instead of the plastic minis. There’s a lovely friendly cat here too!

Visited this place as a museum guess instead of hotel guest. The guided tour is excellent as it covers the history and restoration process for the building. The building is very well restored and the details of the internal and external facade are very intricate. There is a bar, cafe and a fine dining restaurant within. Prices are on the high side as expected for the fine dining.

I love this place. An Elegant and historical mansion with full of details. Well maintained. Very cosy room, love the fact they use name instead of room number! Good location. Good breakfast. Friendly and very helpful staff. Couldn't recommend a better place to stay in Georgetown, I will definitely stay there next time.

I didn't stay at the mansion but joined the tour last Friday. It was one of the best tours I had. The guide (a conservator) was a wonderful storyteller as she played a huge role in the mansion's conservation. She shared the ups and downs, the history of the mansion and the family. It was definitely more than 45 minutes and worth even more than RM26 ticket. Please book online prior to the visit. I definitely value UNESCO sites more than before. I would love to stay there next time!

We went as a family (kids aged 12 and 15) and loved every minute of it. It’s a boutique hotel so very quickly it felt like being at home in this stunning place. Children explored the place by themselves often bare footed. Staff is brilliant, flexible, kind and made sure we got everything we asked for. The hotel is in the old town so plenty sights to see within walking distance. We also hiked in Penang hill and visited Botanical gardens. The graveyard just next door is also particularly interesting where the founder of Penang is resting. We would be definitely coming back. 🌿🌺

Beautifully restored mansion. The interior is elegantly done to restore to the original oriental style. Stayed here for a few nights and it's definitely worth the experience.

As far as a physical environment goes, absolutely amazing. Beautiful inside and out, and really a very special place to stay if one has the chance. However, I felt unwelcome the entire time, as though we were intruders and not guests. Constantly having to prove which room we were in anytime we stepped outside the room or went anywhere within the hotel. Did not eat dinner at the restaurant but happy hour in the courtyard was very nice and there was live music which created a very nice atmosphere. Breakfast was....well, I'll attach a photo as it is rather funny.

The place has converted from historical house to hotel. It closes most areas to the public and have a few posters and cheap antique items for showing the history of the place. The guided tour is only offer to visitors at certain hours and close off to visitors in the house if they come in earlier, despite paying the same price. It has totally lost its public education function. Yet it is still charging the same price as the Pinang Peranakan Mansion which has proper collection and runs good educational tour. Not worth of the visit. You can learn everything they have to say by downloading the audio guide app.

The place is definitely overrated! It's beautiful to visit for a couple of minutes or for a drink and photos but not suitable for a stay lasting more than one night. We're glad thatwe experienced it, but we wouldn't choose to stay again. During our two-night stay on the ground floor, the noise from upstairs was unbearable. Every single move from the guests above could be heard. The courtyard lights stayed on all night, shining into our windows and directly into our eyes. We didn't have good nights sleep at all. The breakfast was also very disappointing. Better breakfast options can be found at nearby cafes. While the room itself is pretty, it only has tiny single beds, and the bathroom is very small as well without a bath tub. If you are expecting a Chinese-style heritage hotel, this might be the place for you. However, if you're looking for a comfortable night's stay, it may not be suitable.

You could get lost in this old world if you do not venture beyond the boundaries of the mansion. Everything feels rustic and authentic, and the staff are fairly friendly too. This is how you REALLY get away. Top notch place for a short family or couple get away, whether you're a local or a foreigner!

From the moment we arrived, we felt cared for by the staff at The Blue Mansion! They brought us tea, assisted with luggage, had our room prepared with some lovely surprises for our anniversary, and gave us a drink ticket to use at the bar to celebrate. The property is beautiful and wonderfully kept. We enjoyed the museum aspects of the house and the fact that each room feels like a museum. The staff were so helpful with recommendations of where to go around Penang and were always warm and welcoming. In the evening on our first night at the Mansion, they brought us some lovely desserts. They really made our stay feel special and it is something we will remember for many years to come!

Beautiful looking old mansion that is well maintained. Went there twice but with no luck. 1st time went there but the mansion is not open yet, opening time around 10:45am. 2nd time went there around 11:10am. But the guard says that the entrance ticket is sold out due to large group guided tour taking place. We could only take photos from the outside.

highly famous historic hotel. This structure had an extremely distinctive design that resembled a Chinese palace. In addition, the staff was really kind and welcoming. The services provided were exceptional and first-rate. It has a large room, great space, and a sweet pool area. I had a great time during breakfast, and the food was very amazing. Definitely worth it for the price.

Both my husband and I enjoyed our stay in this probably one of the most historical places in George Town. The atmosphere took you back in time and the tranquil court yard was just amazing considering we were in the middle of town. Although it was a set meal for the evening, one of the courses was something I don`t eat but your staff were so accommodating and offered an alternative which I was really grateful for. It would have been lovely to take part on the tour which would have been possible if not for the current situation which is probably the only negative thing I can think about but that is no fault of yours. We look forward to better times and revisiting with family and friends and showing them this little gem of Malaysia. Keep up the good work and hopefully see you soon. Joy Jerney-Graetz and husband Eric.

The good: Overall a very pleasant stay. Staff were very friendly, especially Daniel that constantly checked in if we needed any assistance. Almost everyone were very accommodative and fuss free. The bar tender was also very pleasant and attentive. The breakfast were of generous portion and tasted good. The order ahead is a good idea and although understaffed, the service was on point and pleasant. The tour was insightful. While it is an old building, the cleanliness and maintenance of this place is top notch. Well done, keep it up. Improvement suggestion: 1. I would suggest to provide more variety for breakfast. We stayed for two nights and end up with nothing else new to try. 2. Could perhaps add a service bell by the tool. Would be nice to be able to sip on cocktail while soaking in the pool. 3. Provide a cultural tour on rickshaw to enhance the historic feel of the place. 4. To include the servant quarters and the exterior architecture of the building as part of the tour. The tour I was on focus mostly on the internal. The best place to see the beautiful tiles is at the balcony of indigo. Can also clearly see the servant quarter from the balcony. The bad: The night receptionists (on duty 23rd Oct) were highly unpleasant and unhelpful. My sister and I requested for water and they merely told us there is no more water. How could a hotel run out of drinking water? They were more interested in playing games on the phone than helping the customers.

The Blue Mansion is worth spending half-day to explore as you get to see a mix of Eastern and Western architecture of that time. With the history and background of the Cheong family, you could understand better on the design of the Mansion. After exploring the building, you should not miss the bar and restaurants in the Mansion. I was enjoying my lovely afternoon tea with my family at the bar. The atmosphere was excellent with great service by the staff. I would love to give special thanks to the staff Mr. Selva who had been very helpful and friendly serving my family and answering my inquiries. I enjoyed my visit to the Blue Mansion and would definitely recommend everyone to come.

Ever wanted to spend the night at a museum. Staying here is pretty close to that. A historic building with the restoration staying true to the original with the addition of the necessary modern accessories. The staff and service were top notch. The included breakfast was also very good. We really enjoyed our stay here.

An amazing hotel - the most beautiful place. Oozes character and history. Stylish comfortable rooms. Divine architecture and styling. Nice bar, good wine list. Pool area quiet and pretty ( though next to main road). One of our favourite ever places to stay.

We had our wedding here last week and we were so impressed by how exceptional all the staff were. They were friendly, attentive, hospitable, and many of our wedding guests were amazed. In the midst of the busyness, they noticed and immediately attended to any of our guests who needed anything. Jafifah, the hotel manager, was everything we could ever ask for and more. On top of displaying superior professionalism, she went out of her way to make this wedding happen for us and reassured us that we were in good hands every step of the way. On the day of the wedding, everything was so well-coordinated, from decor setup to the timing of food service of the amazing dinner spread Chef Jack had prepared. She and the staff members of The Blue Mansion worked so harmoniously with all the other vendors, we really could not have asked for more. We highly recommend The Blue Mansion to anyone who’s considering having their wedding here.

I wanted to eat here but they serve western items. But I still decided to do the tour. The tour guide was friendly and enthusiastic about the history of the blue mansion. It looks absolutely gorgeous. And restoration is very well done. Could not hear fully of the tour guide that spoke in English since our group was quite big, decided to walk around and take some selfies instead. I could do without the tour if it's too crowded.

Disappointed ! Bought Ticket to visit the heritage mansion. Lady supervisor is rude n only gave us 30 minutes to tour around for we dun want to follow the guide tour. She gave a reason that they need to control the number of visitors so not to disturb the hotel residents Puzzled why they open to the public if they intend to keep the place quiet for hotel clients. Thus, Many Areas are cordon off and only open for Hotel residents. Nothing much to see and we completed the tour in 15 minutes Not worthwhile if U are not staying in the hotel

We had an amazing time at the Blue Mansion today! Our guide, Selva, was fantastic. He's enthusiastic about sharing the house's history, has a great sense of humor, and a solid understanding of the place. Highly recommended for a delightful tour experience!

We stayed off-site in a residence with access to the Blue Mansion. It is commonly booked out for special occasions, such as weddings or functions for large groups. The Blue Mansion is well known and quite popular locally as it has been featured in such films as: "Crazy Rich Asians" and "Indochine," to name a few. The hotel is lovely and the staff is generally very attentive and accommodating. We walked to the mansion for the morning breakfast buffet, which was varied, filling, and robust with choices of both western and eastern cuisines. One would need to plan ahead and book with several options in mind as the Blue Mansion's popularity keeps this local sensation filled throughout the year.

Best orange juice, would highly recommend for their breakfast session orange juice, I was obsessed into the Vitamin C while having Vitamin D directly pumping into me by the sunlight. The place looks vintage, the dining experience at the Indigo was superb. It was my friend’s wedding, I guess Blue Mansion had successfully made a significant impact on their wedding day because it made the guests felt warmth. Still, orange juice!

Booked this awesome hotel to celebrate a special occasion. The hotel was very accommodating and made special arrangement to decorate the room and offered a free afternoon tea. The staffs speak good English and are very friendly and helpful. The place is just filled with history. The inclusion of a free guided tour is a bonus and allowed us to know the history of the building and the owner. I would suggest that you book a guided tour even if you are not staying in this beautiful hotel.

The 50s room was fantastic. With a private jacuzzi, complementary bath salts and excellent room service, what more do you need for a relaxing getaway near the heart of Penang? Such a great location, surrounded by great cuisine, entertainment and history. We would happily recommend this classy boutique hotel to anyone we meet.

Our visit to the Blue Mansion was absolutely a highlight of our time in Malaysia! While the mansion itself was gorgeous, and an amazing example of historical stewardship, the real superstar here is one of the owners, an incredible woman who gave a show stopping tour! Her tales of growing up near the Blue Mansion and later saving it from disrepair and circling developer vultures was at turns hilarious, heartwarming, unbelievable, and most of all, so inspiring. She is so, so knowledgeable about the house and it’s history because she lives and breathes it every day. Wish we could have had a whole afternoon to pick her brain! She is amazing. Go go go!

My partner and I had a pleasurable stay and we were captivated with the history, layout, design and fengshui of the building. The food to our surprise was delicious and the bar area was cozy. The room was spacious and cooling without the need to switch on air-con but we did notice that the toilet tends to get damp after showers. The location was ideal and it was convenient for us to access places with our bicycles. Overall, the service was great and absolutely love the option to dine in front of our room.

This was our 3rd stay at CFZ. I stayed upstairs this time for a change and found it good and more private, but, the AC system was a little noisier than the units used in the rooms downstairs. The pillows were a little tired as well. Would have been a perfect stay if the pillows and AC system can be improved. Otherwise, the high tea included as part of the stay was amazing, well done to the in-house Pastry chef! Coffee and cocktails great as always. Indigo a must as well! I hope it keeps up with the friendly kitchen and wait staff and that Malaysian Experience package xx

I really enjoyed the stay last weekend. The hotel is stunning, rooms were really nice, but most importantly the staff are excellent. Very friendly, welcoming and it really stood out compared to other hotels. Great job! The food was great - breakfast was really nice and the private dinner we had for an event on Saturday was very good. Altogether a great hotel, good location and a very nice place to relax for a weekend. Would highly recommend it.

What more can I say about a 200 year old mansion? So much history and so much class! I've been visiting Penang all my life & never knew you could stay here. We took opportunity of the pandemic promos & booked 2 nights. We were given the best room in the mansion apparently, the Escoy, which has direct access to the pool. The room was just gorgeous and the garden and pool area is just beautiful and peaceful. The location of the mansion is also very central and near good food like Penang Road, Kimberly Street and just outside the mansion, the Red Garden food Court. Our room booking came with a decent set breakfast & cocktail. Really worth the price we stayed.

Place considerably well maintained. If you like heritage, this would be a great place to go. Guided tours available with an extension turned into hotel. Has a mini pool. SOP is mediocre. Bed is comfy but floor in lower ground floor is concrete. Not the most comfortable for a hotel room.

I'm don't always leave reviews, but CFT definitely deserves one. It was a beautiful boutique hotel. The heritage and authenticity left such an impression. We stayed in Fragrant Poem, bed was super comfortable although not recommended if you are sensitive to noise as the room is facing a food court/ hawker with live music which stopped between 11pm and 12am (in Covid times). However that did not bother us. Besides the aesthetics, the service was impeccable. It was truly a boutique hotel done right. We booked directly on their website which was a better rate (and package) compared to booking websites.

Having stayed on a previous occasion, we were excited to once again experience the ambience and heritage surroundings of the Cheong Fatt Tze mansion. We were well looked after by very attentive and friendly staff, enjoying the taste sensations at Indigo and also at Mangga Cafe. Our 2 nights went too quickly and we look forward to returning again in the future.

First of all, i would like to express my thanks to all the staff of Blue Mansion Hotel for granting my requests for our birthdaycation and it will always be the best birthday celebration for us to remember. The room we requested was beyond expectation with the freebies in the room such as the delicious cookies, good quality coffee and tea etc. The promotion room we got that came with some special gifts really made us want to come back staying at this hotel should there be another promotion in the future. The generosity of your hotel in serving us a delicious and cute birthday cake when we dined at Indigo Restaurant was really appreciated and it really made us happy to choose your hotel for our birthdaycation. The staff were friendly and very helpful and it really showed that they took their jobs seriously and they were the right persons for hospitality businesses. The wonderful experience we had by staying at your hotel has been shared with our friends and we recommended them your hotel for consideration if they would like to visit Penang or have a staycation in Penang. Finally, thank you so much for your amazing hospitality and generosity and hopefully, we can stay at your hotel again in the future.

Rooms are of good size and everything worked well in them. The staff at the front office were good and helpful and efficient. Your breakfast while adequate in offering could be improved in quality, also suggest you offer some vegetarian fare for breakfast, as there is none and none could be order either. Lastly a comment on the bar, one evening we went to the bar and had a few drinks and barman charged me the full price for the drinks even though it was happy hour. When i pointed it out to him he changed the bill in a very complicated manner which could not understand. Would ask that the barman be made aware and asked not to do this to customers.

Lovely mansion full of history, rooms were comfortable, breakfast was excellent. There was a slight delay with our afternoon tea that we had booked earlier, but was not a big issue, afternoon tea itself was delightful. We liked that we could park our car right at the entrance, and the location was perfect for sightseeing in Georgetown. We enjoyed the delicious kuih that was provided in the rooms and loved that we can refill our water at the water machine - such a sustainable way of keeping guests hydrated. The included tour of the house was great. We thought that the bar could be kept open for a bit longer (10pm seems a bit too early...), but not an issue overall.

I stayed in Nanyang room. It's totally worth the price. Every corner is magnificent especially to those who loves the architecture. The staffs were very nice and helpful including the guards. During our stayed, we have a performer played the classic Chinese song. Privacy, quiet and peaceful night. We loved it! Just the breakfast spread were simple and unfortunately they don't have room service during my stay even I already filled up the form. They said, only manager can access to that mail because Ive completed it before the check in. E forms is good and I support green campaign but somehow not everyone check their emails frequently. That's all. Other than that, the hotel location is easy access to all food places and we have parking free spot!

Lovely restoration of the original building, so you can experience living Chinese style in the late nineteenth century. I didn't try the highly recommended upstairs restaurant but the free resident's cocktails in the bar were a nice touch.

This is not a post on the building's architecture nor staycation in this building. Cheong Fatt Tze or affectionately known as The Blue Mansion is a very beautiful restored mansion close (or exactly the same) to its original architecture. Apart from providing experience of staying in the boutique hotel - yes, you can actually book a room through booking.com or agoda.com (or directly through their official website) to experience the history, ambience and heritage surrounding the hotel. We arrived here initially planning to have a tour around this building but the there were many people in-line, and we switched to Plan B - just to enjoy drink at their tranquil lounge aptly named "The Bar". That way, we were able to go into Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion without having to go through tour. It turned out to be a wise decision - the kids weren't really interested to join the tour actually, and both parents could enjoy a glass of wine while the kids picked their choice of drinks to quench their thirst. As for me, I spent about an hour admiring the ancient Chinese building style based on fengshui, something less seen outside China itself.

Had my wedding shoot here. Gorgeous building, and it only gets more breathtaking when you walk in. They even upgraded me to a another room which was amazing! The food was delicious especially their cookies and muffin. The staffs are extremely efficient, pleasant and helpful. Had a really wonderful experience here..

It's like coming home, warm welcome and wonderful people. Happy to have found this wonderful house back then. Thanks to all for a great time after all these lockdowns.

This was our first trip to Malaysia. We were especially impressed by people serving us during our stay. There was no feeling of a "rush hour" although everything functioned well. We also enjoyed a very airy room - the ceiling was high up! The leader of a guided tour in the mansion was a real expert. Maybe we even missed something because we do not know a Chinese culture so well. Food in the Indigo restaurant was overall very tasty and well prepared, some combinations, however not to my taste.

Had a very comfortable and relaxing stay at this beautifully restored heritage building. Comfortable bed and very friendly staff. Location is ideal, walking distance to the old historic part of town. Many choices for breakfast. The hotel also has a restaurant, food is quite good, worth a try. Btw, hotel guest get a complimentary Mansion tour.

It was a nice gateway. It felt like a travel in time and the staff was really great. It was quiet, perfect to recharge ! The hotel is just gorgeous. I would truly recommend to anyone ! At least to do a visit of the hotel - it is really worth it ! A bit disappointed by the breakfast - it was good/ok in term of food but nothing exceptional.
