Terrible service but great location. Upon checking in, I reported that the bathroom light was not working. The front desk attendant assured me that it would be fixed promptly and that we didn't need to wait in the room. However, upon our return in the evening, the issue had not been addressed. We had to request a repair again and were told it would be resolved the following day. Despite this assurance, the light was still not working when we returned from our outing the next day. We approached the front desk for the third time, and the attendant seemed annoyed, stating that if there was still a problem, they would send someone immediately to fix it. After waiting for an hour with no resolution, we spoke with the manager, who had just returned. Finally, after our fourth request, a repair person was sent to address the issue. The manager's dismissive attitude toward our frustration was disappointing. Overall, the handling of this maintenance issue was poorly managed and communicated, leading to a frustrating and inconvenient stay.

Highly recommend this lovely smaller boutique style hotel with old world charm. Stayed for 6 nights, very comfortable, large room with sofa. Extremely attentive and friendly staff. Enjoyed the pool. Great location, easy access to walk to nearby heritage streets of Georgetown, little India, Love Lane , Chulia St. Excellent food hall 200 meters down the road. Would definitely recommend.

Absolutely amazing hotel. Set in a beautiful and historic colonial building with Anglo-Indian decor. It's a quiet haven away from the bustling Georgetown. Very romantic atmosphere and the rooms are so well designed you'll find yourself staring at the decor with a smile. The hotel also serves a small but nice local breakfast and fresh fruits. The staff are extremely helpful.

As frequent travelers (including to Penang as we have close family here), I’m disappointed to say the Jawi Peranakan was a big let down. The photos displayed online of the property unfortunately didn’t match our in-person experience. First I’ll start with the few positives: the hotel is located in an ideal area to walk or drive easily around Georgetown. The room itself is spacious, has many universal outlets, and 2 mineral water bottles are provided daily. These are the reasons we’ve rated the hotel a 2/5 stars. However the room overall lacked attention to detail and cleanliness was subpar. Both the couch and the duvet on the bed had stains; we thus only slept with the sheet, which was the equivalent quality of a paper napkin. The bed and pillows were extremely uncomfortable to the point that we both woke up with neck, back and/or hip pain daily. The safe in our room didn’t function, but even if it had, we wouldn’t have felt comfortable using it because it was light enough and small enough that it could easily just be carried out of the room (it seemed to have previously been mounted to the cabinet so that it couldn’t be removed, but has since been broken off and not repaired). There are a few hooks around the room, but otherwise there aren’t many places to store clothing and only 4 hangers were provided so we primarily lived out of our suitcases for our stay. The bathroom was also very dirty, including a large amount of mold and mildew build-up in the shower. The hot water only gets to a warm temperature, the overhead shower head didn’t function so we had to use a handheld sprayer, and a full toiletry set was not included (no conditioner). In addition to lack of bathroom toiletries, general basic amenities such as a kettle, coffee, tea, an iron, and robes are not provided in the rooms. Although you can ask for coffee or tea service, there’s no telephone in the room so you must directly report to the front desk to request these items. On multiple days of our stay no bath towels were available because of “laundry issues” so we were instead given pool towels to use in our room. Service was poor. On day of check-in, the staff were very distracted by a visit from their boss, so much so that they forgot to give us our room key after showing us the location of our room, and when we asked to swap our credit card on file were told we could do it at check-out. The staff were primarily non-existent for the remainder of our stay, and when we did run into them, we were often not acknowledged at all. There is little privacy on the ground floor both due to the windows and lack of sound proofing. You can hear everything from the hallway and outdoors. Our room was nearby a staff and kitchen area, including our toilet where we could see and hear people walking by through the lightly frosted windows; as a result, we kept our windows closed the entire visit and couldn’t enjoy the sun in our room. Additionally, we could hear everything from the room located above our’s right down to a guest sneezing. We’re sad to have had this experience, especially in Penang, a place we hold so dear in our hearts. Unfortunately we will not be returning to the Jawi Peranakan the next time we visit Penang and we’d strongly recommend against it to our friends and family as well.

Stayed here last week and I have to say it's one of the worst places that I've stayed in. I booked a room for 3 nights but I had to check out after 1 night. The mansion is charming, and it's located in a great location (it's in the middle of places that I was visiting, super convenient). It's great that we can refill our water with a water dispenser, and coffee and tea outside of the room. But that is about it, I'm really struggling to find good things about this place. Firstly, the staff were not very welcoming; hardly a smile when you bump into them as you leave the mansion. As my room was located at the ground level, I could hear everything from above. Granted, it's a mansion so I could get past that, but because the windows are not sound proof, I could hear every car and motorcycle that drove past in the night. Coupled with the fact that the bed and pillow were so uncomfortable, I woke up in the night booking another hotel and checked out immediately the next day. The pillows provided were super thin, giving me neck pain. The bed wasn't supportive as well, not to mention the blankets aren't even blankets - just a thin piece of cloth. The safe in the room wasn't working as well. Not to mention that the TV wasn't in great working condition too; reception was bad so the colours were all funky, and lots of streaks. There is absolutely lack of hangers as well. While the staff did try to change my room when I told him I wanted an early checkout, he did not ask what was the reason why I am checking out early when I said I couldn't sleep at all. I think it just says a lot about how much effort are they willing to make this mansion a nice place to stay at. It was the most traumatising stay and I would not recommend this place at all. Spend a little more and stay elsewhere.

I really want to give this hotel five stars because the room is excellent, the staff are lovely and accommodating, the breakfast is nice, and the pool and facilities are absolutely beautiful, and super comfortable. However, we've stayed here three nights and each night, there has been loud music and fireworks from about 50m down the street from a Chinese festival, until midnight. While this is no direct fault of the hotel itself, they did not alert us to this ahead of time. I realize this probably isn't the norm but when it's three of three nights and the third night is the loudest yet, it's not a relaxing stay. We finally went to the front desk tonight and he quickly went to find us ear plugs...the service really is amazing. So yes, give this hotel a go but maybe contact them ahead of time to check for potential conflicts.

Value for money is just okay. For about MYR400 per night, you get a large, charming room in a small charming property. There's a great pool too. I'd expect more than instant coffee here. Sure, there's a food market 200m away, but good coffee and tea service in the morning is important. The milk at the tea station was lumpy one morning. The immediate surrounding area consists of a construction site, a junkyard, and more modest housing than this mansion. Mornings were noisy with calls to prayer at 6:30am and digger construction at 7:30am. You get used to it but don't expect peace and quiet.

We were so impressed with this beautiful hotel. It was very centrally located and you could get to loads of great restaurants easily. The look of the place was magnificent - just really gorgeous and the whole place was thoughtfully done. It was also huge even though we had the most basic room!

Really nice hotel. Great staff, very welcoming and helpful. The rooms are large, clean and the AC works well. The pool is pretty cool and a great place to cool down. Filtered water is offered at any time. Great place to stay a couple of days and discover Penang!

Visited the hotel recently last month and it seems the maintenance of the property was quite bad, tiles broken, weeds on the property, chairs stacked in storage in a haphazard way. Seems to have seen better times. Hotel properties in Georgetown seems to have a poor upkeep culture.

Really nice house. Feel like back in the 1900… good location. Staff friendly. Nice swimming pool. Go there to enjoy the atmosphere

Beautiful place. May not have the usual amenities you expect from hotels but its rustic and antique design makes up for it. Plus, it is also walking distance to all the hotspots in Georgetown

This hotel is an authentic heritage property that gives one a glimpse into Penang’s past. That said, there are pros and cons: Pros: good size room, helpful staff, nice pool, good location for restaurants and sightseeing (walking and taking Grab) Cons: construction noise due to demolishing building behind the hotel and re-building. Views from rooms look out to areas that are rundown. Strong open sewage smell outside hotel front gate makes waiting for Grab unpleasant experience, dogs barking nightly and nearby mosque early morning call to prayer might be difficult for those who are light sleepers. Pool has no steps for getting in/out so you need to lift yourself up onto a concrete ledge to exit.

Checked in today for 1 night, not knowing I actually came here for a visit last year. Parkings on day time is difficult as you can only park your car on the road sides. The room is clean except the fan looks dirty with dust. The ceiling is very high making the air difficult to contain as their air-cond is installed deep in the toilet. The tv wasn’t working and the staff came to fix it but after checking they said the they can only fix it tomorrow and they apologised. Since we will be checking out tomorrow we just said thanks. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

Great heritage hotel close to the centre of George Town. Rooms are nicely furnished and clean. The small swimming pool is a nice addition to cool down in. We stayed in a mansion room which was nice and spacious, although due to the design of the building, the room itself lacked a bit of natural light. The room was quiet, although there is a mosque in the vicinity of the hotel. The room was equipped with a fridge and safe. Drinking water was also freely available. Would recommend!

Lovely hotel located in the middle of town but not on a busy street. The room I got was wonderful. The staff leave you to your own, so you have a lot of privacy in general. Would be coming here again

Beautiful heritage hotel with all the plus and minus that goes with it. Firstly, stairs and more stairs if you're staying in the upstairs suite. There's water, tea/coffee facilities, but downstairs. Aircon and ceiling fan doesn't cool down the 2nd mezzanine bedroom. What makes up for all these, are the friendly staff, helpful and going all out to make your stay memorable.

I must say, this hotel is the best! The room is spacious and cosy, the concept and decoration are excellent. My only suggestion would be for management to provide a car park for visitors. I will definitely come back again.

An atas hotel but I felt it was subpar because we were given a bedroom without windows. The aircond temperature couldn't be adjusted and we would wake up in the middle of the night sweating. The day bed is placed at weird position of which it's directly next to the TV. Who can sit there n watch TV at the same time?? No logic at all The location is good

Lovely little heritage hotel in a very central location. Though a little dated the rooms were clean and spacious. We had a wonderful stay overall. Walking distance to most places - Check out Laksalicious down the road. Special mention to Muiz for his patience and friendly amazing service!

Amazing stay at Jawi Peranakan Mansion. The suites were perfect (big, clean and nicely decorated). The staff was really helpful and kind, a special thanks to Muazz (sorry if the spelling is wrong) and all his tips and recommandations. The hotel is close to the city center and there are many cafes and restaurants around. Will come back again!

Came here from 4/5-5/5/2022. I rated Excellant/Exemplary due to lot of factors. The staff warm hospitality that extended to my friend, 2 of her kiddos & myself. My mistakes booked on wrong dates. Stephanie saves our night that day. She is very professional & attended our problem with calm but our hope to stay here still with. Luckily, the Manager, En. Muiz granted us with the last room that available on that night. The moments we entering the hotel, cozy, authentic & classic interrior are so welcoming us. It is a nice place to stay. I felt comfortable, enjoy every single of moment to be here. Never I experienced the hospitality/guest experience that all the staff here offered compare to other hotel whereby I would rate 10/10 for their kindness, welcoming, greeting, no double standard to attend their guests, how polite they’re that make us feel we are welcome by all of you. The strategic location by walking in the morning for Roti Canai Transfer too. Thank you to the Management of Jawi Peranakan Mansion. Ms. Stephanie & En. Muiz, we owed you both a lot. You’re the asset to your Management. InshaAllah, Im sure, I will have my stay here again. Salam hormat, Azma AH

A stunning boutique heritage hotel set back from the street. The duplex room was so characterful with rugs, quilts and lovely furniture. Helpful staff, and lovely fresh breakfast. Located centrally with 10-15 min walk to Love Lane and Armenian Street.

I would highly recommend staying at Jawi Perankan. The location is great, so easy to walk everywhere. The service is outstanding, everyone is super friendly and helpful. And the hotel itself is stunning, really special and guaranteed to make you feel at home. The perfect oasis in the hustle and bustle of George Town. We’ll be back for sure!

Really nice ambiance and setting. Beautiful rooms which are gorgeously decorated with antique pieces. Staff are ever so friendly and welcoming. SOPs are strictly maintained. Lots of wonderful corners to take pictures in. The pool is a bit small but they adhere strictly to slot booking so it's fairly safe. Currently, they do not serve any food on-site but it's walking distance to many famous eateries. The only issue is parking because available parking is on the street. Otherwise, very comfortable rooms at a reasonable price.

Lovely mansion, gorgeous interior. Most polite and helpful staff I have ever met in my many travels. The negatives..no parking, no kettle in the room and no windows. Avoid room no 7.

Oh rent a villa here, you won’t regret it! My husband and I closed out our two week Malaysia vacation at the Jawi Mansion and our stay could not have been more wonderful. We rented a villa and it was stunning - beautiful decorations, comfortable furnishings, felt luxurious and homey at the same time. The staff is simply wonderful, so friendly and helpful. The pool is a dream. This hotel is close enough to everything to be convenient, but far enough away to be quiet. We will be making this our main place to stay any time we are in the area.

Cosy environment though the location is at the Hutton Lane, which can be busy at certain hours. Beautiful historical mansion with staff that are polite & friendly. Stayed at Mansion Suite (loft room) with 2 kingsize beds. Close to many attractions & eateries. Perfect stay in Georgetown!

Gem of a find. A nice boutique hotel with Peranakan and Morroccon-esque themed allure. Spotless, clean and Muslim friendly rooms. Very friendly service led by Mr Muizz and team. One other strongpoint is the location to restaurant around the area. Will definitely visit again and recommend to others.

Beautiful house close to George town. Extremely clean and comfortable. The bed is to die for, had a great night's sleep. We booked the 2-bed room mansion but there's no washroom with the second bedroom, which was a let down. Tbh, the hotel is quite pricey for what one gets (no breakfast) and you can choose a better hotel (check Hompton by the beach/ The edison) in Penang if you book early.

Good hotel can only be great with helpful, friendly and cheerful staff. This is what it is. A gem that we stumbled upon. They tried their best to accommodate walk in visitors like us on a busy school holiday. Our kids like it so much. We wish we could stay longer. The famous Roti Canai Transfer Rd is just a block away. It tells so much about the location.

A location with lots of charm! Staying here brought back much childhood memories growing up in my grandparents' home. The staff was Uber attentive. Was always available to share insights and provide wonderful recommendations. Location is a few streets away from where the main attraction is. Thanks to the crazy traffic of the holidays and Penang's unbearable heat, it did take us quite some time to get around anywhere.

Superb location!! walking distance(<500m) to More by Arang Cafe, Alamak cafe, Lengkuas cafe etc. Other cafe like wheelers, mugshot are within 1-2km. Upside down museum and 3D mansion museum are also not far. The interior is beautiful, we got the mansion room near the swimming pool (room 2) it was awesome. Room's clean and well maintained. Shout out to Stephanie who made our little girl trip memorable. Other staffs are also helpful. Parking was not an issue for us coz we just walk and used grab. Would definitely come back!!
