As
frequent
travelers
(including
to
Penang
as
we
have
close
family
here),
I’m
disappointed
to
say
the
Jawi
Peranakan
was
a
big
let
down.
The
photos
displayed
online
of
the
property
unfortunately
didn’t
match
our
in-person
experience.
First
I’ll
start
with
the
few
positives:
the
hotel
is
located
in
an
ideal
area
to
walk
or
drive
easily
around
Georgetown.
The
room
itself
is
spacious,
has
many
universal
outlets,
and
2
mineral
water
bottles
are
provided
daily.
These
are
the
reasons
we’ve
rated
the
hotel
a
2/5
stars.
However
the
room
overall
lacked
attention
to
detail
and
cleanliness
was
subpar.
Both
the
couch
and
the
duvet
on
the
bed
had
stains;
we
thus
only
slept
with
the
sheet,
which
was
the
equivalent
quality
of
a
paper
napkin.
The
bed
and
pillows
were
extremely
uncomfortable
to
the
point
that
we
both
woke
up
with
neck,
back
and/or
hip
pain
daily.
The
safe
in
our
room
didn’t
function,
but
even
if
it
had,
we
wouldn’t
have
felt
comfortable
using
it
because
it
was
light
enough
and
small
enough
that
it
could
easily
just
be
carried
out
of
the
room
(it
seemed
to
have
previously
been
mounted
to
the
cabinet
so
that
it
couldn’t
be
removed,
but
has
since
been
broken
off
and
not
repaired).
There
are
a
few
hooks
around
the
room,
but
otherwise
there
aren’t
many
places
to
store
clothing
and
only
4
hangers
were
provided
so
we
primarily
lived
out
of
our
suitcases
for
our
stay.
The
bathroom
was
also
very
dirty,
including
a
large
amount
of
mold
and
mildew
build-up
in
the
shower.
The
hot
water
only
gets
to
a
warm
temperature,
the
overhead
shower
head
didn’t
function
so
we
had
to
use
a
handheld
sprayer,
and
a
full
toiletry
set
was
not
included
(no
conditioner).
In
addition
to
lack
of
bathroom
toiletries,
general
basic
amenities
such
as
a
kettle,
coffee,
tea,
an
iron,
and
robes
are
not
provided
in
the
rooms.
Although
you
can
ask
for
coffee
or
tea
service,
there’s
no
telephone
in
the
room
so
you
must
directly
report
to
the
front
desk
to
request
these
items.
On
multiple
days
of
our
stay
no
bath
towels
were
available
because
of
“laundry
issues”
so
we
were
instead
given
pool
towels
to
use
in
our
room.
Service
was
poor.
On
day
of
check-in,
the
staff
were
very
distracted
by
a
visit
from
their
boss,
so
much
so
that
they
forgot
to
give
us
our
room
key
after
showing
us
the
location
of
our
room,
and
when
we
asked
to
swap
our
credit
card
on
file
were
told
we
could
do
it
at
check-out.
The
staff
were
primarily
non-existent
for
the
remainder
of
our
stay,
and
when
we
did
run
into
them,
we
were
often
not
acknowledged
at
all.
There
is
little
privacy
on
the
ground
floor
both
due
to
the
windows
and
lack
of
sound
proofing.
You
can
hear
everything
from
the
hallway
and
outdoors.
Our
room
was
nearby
a
staff
and
kitchen
area,
including
our
toilet
where
we
could
see
and
hear
people
walking
by
through
the
lightly
frosted
windows;
as
a
result,
we
kept
our
windows
closed
the
entire
visit
and
couldn’t
enjoy
the
sun
in
our
room.
Additionally,
we
could
hear
everything
from
the
room
located
above
our’s
right
down
to
a
guest
sneezing.
We’re
sad
to
have
had
this
experience,
especially
in
Penang,
a
place
we
hold
so
dear
in
our
hearts.
Unfortunately
we
will
not
be
returning
to
the
Jawi
Peranakan
the
next
time
we
visit
Penang
and
we’d
strongly
recommend
against
it
to
our
friends
and
family
as
well.
