The hostel/hotel is an old building that was renovated by the owner and it’s stunning. It has a cafe/bar too and I enjoyed staying there with other travelers and owner’s cats when outside was too hot. Also It’s in the heart of Georgetown so you can just step outside and sightsee or get easy access to anywhere. Finally, the owner is very friendly and knows well about Penang. He helped me a lot when i lost my phone too. That was very sweet. So, I would say this is the place to go if you want an authentic stay and good people experience!

    1. Place: was not so hard to find. Outside is elegant, inside is cozy with vintage interior. 2. Food: price is not cheap but acceptable, taste quite good but one portion is small (you'd still be hungry after eating). 3. Service: the owner and staff are so friendly and funny. We had to wait quite long time for the food but we were totally pleased with the service. Additionally, there are 3 cute cats here, really cuteee 🥰

This is an amazing guesthouse. It is exactly the type of place that I like to stay. It is run by a friendly local who has experience traveling. If you are the type of person who likes to ‘stay local’ this is your place. It is also conveniently located near many restaurants and bars. So most things are walkable I’ll def return the next time I am in Penang.

So unique place. The walls and the decoration reminded me of a mix of Alice in wonderland, a boutique French hotel and imperial China with an indoor/outdoor feeling. Kent the owner is very friendly and helpful. Helped out with tickets to Thailand to a paradise island on his recommendation instead of our original plan of langkawi, also helped with all our queries and went out of his way to assist. All staff on the premises where very friendly. There’s several hang out areas such as the cafe and a library full of books. There’s a shop too where you can buy some cool postcards and art. All rooms are unique where some are small with steep stairs, others with tiny bathrooms and one with a balcony and the other not but it’s all part of the charm and made it even more unique. If you are a couple, traveling alone or even a family (had family rooms too) I highly recommend this place. In addition, comfortable beds, warm shower and good water pressure :)

This review is long overdue as I'd stayed here in late June 2022, after years of eyeing this place - so glad that I'd finally stayed. From the outside, it looks like any other pre-war building in the city, but once you step inside, it's almost like stepping into a whole different place & time. The little details from the retro, shabby chic decor to the explosion of greenery give this place such character & uniqueness. I had rooms towards the back of the building, which were quite quiet. My only minor gripe would be with the double room with ensuite as the bathroom was located upstairs, accessible by a somewhat steep ladder - not the best if you need to use the loo in the middle of the night. The owner, Kent, is a wonderful host, helpful & thoughtful. Charmingly quirky, this place may not be for everyone, but it's definitely for me.

We enjoy our stay at MoonTree 47. Ken is such a star. He help us with car hire and recommend cool eating places. The cats are adorable, the rooms are unique and beautiful. Feel like you travel back in time where you visits your grandparents home. All the memorable items and collections are a gem. We definitely come back.

I stayed at Moon Tree 47 for 9 nights and it was the finest place of my trip in Penang. Especially, I highly recommend if you are a solo traveller. Well-maintained old building full of plants feels very peaceful and cozy. There are good restaurants, cafes and food stalls around. The owner couple is so friendly and informative. Even their cats too.

We had such a good time at Moon Tree 47. The backyard is full of plants and you feel comfortable immediately once you enter this place. The rooms have a fan, air condition, toilet and shower. Breakfast is also available from 9.30AM. Wifi is pretty good. But the best was the hosting of Joey! She was so nice and gave us so many good information and secret locations around Penang. In general all the staff was welcoming and helpful. Highly recommend to stay here when you visit Penang. Side fact: Jimmy Choo used to life in the Muntri Street as well ;)

Authentic and pleasant. This historic building is an oasis in the middle of this city, with its small inner courtyard full of plants. The owner is very nice, helpful and respectful. The café is decorated with taste, with many antique objects. The rooms have a real charm, high ceilings and very airy. This is a real bonus if, like me, you prefer a fan to air conditioning (although it's also available). It is clean and comfortable. The sound insulation between the rooms is not really great, as some other comments says, but it is a detail that would not make me remove a star. I've been to other hotels in Penang, and most are very noisy, mostly because of the traffic of the roads, while Muntri Street is pretty quiet. I had a very pleasant time there.

I stayed here 5 nights and can definitely recommend it. Great location, close to restaurants and bars, but on a quieter street. Kent was wonderful, providing lots of advice and information when I asked. It's a bit rustic, but good value for money. And the cafe downstairs is a lovely spot to do some work from.

Pros: - affordable - unique - great location in Muntri but still quiet - good hospitality by Kent as he helped arranging airport transfer Con: - old building hence despite the uniqueness, it has an eerie ambience and old house smell (not recommend for those who prefer new and sparkling clean place)

Sometimes you come across unique, special places that stay with you in your mind. Moon Tree 47 was like that. The woman helping us was happy and kind. The little garden had a good atmosphere and the rooms and bathrooms were clean. They were a bit basic, but had everything one would need. Would recommend!

Lovely cafe! Cozy environment, lots of amazing vintage collections, very friendly cat. But I wonder if the cat has some sort of oral disease? Poor boy should see a vet 😢

Cant beat the price and the charm. Right in the middle of the best spots for World heritage part of the city. Very friendly and helpful landlord and staff. Super duper clean. Few things to note thus : like any charming old house sounds travel really well, so if you are a light sleeper it might be an inconvenience, and you must be ready for camping like bathroom . But the advantages outweight the inconveniences in my views.

Super cute place. Cafe and small shop, super friendly and helpful staff. Only realized later that it is also a hotel but cant say anything about the rooms.

Cosy, relaxing cafe to enjoy a refreshing drink. Loved the plants, cute kitties and the vintage decor! Super friendly service from the proprietor too - it’s a hidden gem 🥰

The best place for heavenly iced latte when in Penang. The latté is blended with ice, but the milk stays frothed. That's a treat I needed during the scorching days in Georgetown. Thank you!

A magical pittoresque haven in the heart of the old town. The place is decorated with such attention to detail with amazing art and furniture anywhere you look. They have an amazing courtyard filled with plants to hang out in and the 2 story double rooms with own bathroom are so cozy. The owners are very nice and went out of their way to make our stay great, including helping with booking ferry tickets and sorting our parking tickets... The atmosphere is really unique so if you’re looking for an authentic experience, stay here.

It's a lovely place. We had a great time staying here. The location is perfect. Don't expect luxury, doors made from wood and an open air connection with your neighbours room. But the atmosphere, the amazing host and the two adorable cats make up for this.

Great place for Hide Away. I stayed for 7 nights. I took up family room at da backyard with private little garden. Quiet ambiance with green plants n always entertained by birds chirping. Before enter my room, need to pass by a short walk way which decorated with green plants n cooling. In da late evening, enjoy calming, relaxing n quiet music at da sitting area beside da air weld, feel Very relaxing after a hectic day. Overall the hotel decoration n everything reminded me of my young age life in Georgetown Penang. Just a walking distance to get authentic Penang food. Great experience for me n my family.
