It is literally impossible to sleep at this hostel. Despite the quiet time being 8-11 guests ignored this and staff talked loudly right under our room at 7am. Guests made noise late into the night. It is a very echoey space, and people are asked to be mindful of this in a miniature, barely legible sign on the door, but in reality even staff make a lot of noise. The room had no outside windows and not enough showers are available. They offer free earplugs for a reason, and they don't stay in all through the night. It looks hipster and stylish but you can hear a pin drop two floors up and it sound like a bowling ball. They lock the door at night but that just means people ring the doorbell late into the night which is also heard from all over the hostel. The lock on the only shower i could find was broken also. the rooms are very bare, with only a bed and one clothes rail.

Overall, a well priced hostel given the location. We stayed in a private room with ensuite, so perhaps disregard this review if you will stay in a dorm. Pros: - Very cool building - Good location - Good communal bathroom Cons: - Sewage smell in the private room. Gave us a headache and made it difficult to sleep. Poor coverup with a scent infuser. Bathroom was basically unusable. - Took a long time to find a receptionist - was hard to get in contact by phone/message - Cafe worker uninterested in helping - not a great vibe in the cafe We didn't get to see the dorms, but we assume it would be quite nice. We wouldn't recommend the private rooms here.

I really love the vibes of this guesthouse. It is true how the reviews were saying that the floors are old and squeaky so you gonna have to walk slowly. The toilets and bathrooms will be cleaned daily, which I appreciate. The receptionist is nice and welcoming. Our room is cozy and quite spacious. Can fit for us two to pray on the floor.

One word: Awesome!! This place was literally one of the best backpackers hostel I've been to. I've stayed in a double bed dorm which could accommodate 2 person in 1 bed which was highly convenient for me and my travel partner. The breakfast was somehow not very good as they only serve typical bread and spread. The only downside was the noise coming from a bar beside the hostel which was unbearable to us especially when sleeping. However, we can get free earplugs from the reception counter which comes in handy for us.

PROS: The Frame Guesthouse is beautiful inside, a minimal industrial setting done very well. There's lots of little rooms and seating areas to whisk away the hours on your laptop or to read. The location is great, a short walk to most coffee shops, little India and old main town attractions. The facilities are clean and spacious, showers are hot with free shower gel. The beds are very comfy, we stayed in a 4 bed mix dormitory (queen size). They have fridges to store food. Space is limited for dying clothing. There is a coffee shop attached to the hotel/hostel as you walk in the entrance, but it's overpriced. CONS: For such a well done setting, they have a continuous smell of sewerage throughout the upstairs area, something that should easily be sorted. There was a downpipe right next to our room, and the smell would waft into the dorm, sickening at times. Especially for the price. Other than that, overall its a lovely setting to meet people and relax.

Perfect location, and clean however extremely noisy… I was awoken throughout the night by people returning as rooms are open, there are no windows, just wooden shutters to common area/the reception area, mosque is opposite and a cafe inside the hostel opens at 7:30/8am. The building is beautiful but very old so when people walk around, the wooden floor shake = Very disturbed sleep! Staff were friendly and helpful but didn’t know much about the area/recommendations.

The Frame Guesthouse was great for our needs (short term stay, budget, backpacker). We booked a private room with en suite. It was a double bed, sink, toilet, and shower. Shower had hot water, aircon, and power source worked well. The room was next to the common bath but not too noisy on the nights we were there, which were during the week. The room was secure and clean. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. It is in a central location close to delicious food and bars, and right on the 101 bus line. If you are going to Batu Ferrenghi from here, the 101 bus stops directly across the street at the back entrance to the mosque, and you just need to wave it down to get it to stop. Really enjoyed night market close by.

That guesthouse is located in perfect location for both day and night activities. In a middle of old Georgetown near everything in the UNESCO area and some good food and bars for the night. The place is also very clean and nice to meet and chat otehr travelerls from all over. Staff really helpful and nice. The main CONs is bad accoustics of the rooms and corridors - all made from wood - can hear everything around you. Top floor has no toilets/showers so you need to move one floor down for that - quite annoyoing. Have free running drinking wafer (filtered) which is great

Everything here was great base on the affordable price! The location just perfect at downtown and very convenient to go anywhere because the bus stop just in front the guesthouse. The bed was clean! One thing need to take note is that this is a old wooden house so when people walking there would be noisy. Last but not least, Staff there are very very friendly! Gave me a lot of recommendations on foods and place to go. Overall experience was excellent! Would like to come back if visit again

The location pinned is not very accurate, it's exactly opposite the side door of Masjid Kapitan Keling. I spent 3 nights at 4-bed female dorm. Overall is good. Walking distance to tourist spots, hawker street and bus station. Remember to bring your key as they'll lock the main door after 10.30pm. There's filtered drinking water at the common space. And the common space are large enough and very comfortable. Hairdryer is provided, just ask it from receptionist. Shampoo is also provided. Remember to bring your own slipper. Cons: On the day I checked in, the receptionist was away for half an hour and left no notes at reception, made us panic and worried as it was already late night. There's no curtain at the dorm, so less privacy.

Nice rooms, good facilities. Wooden floors make it very loud at night and the cafe opens at 7:30 am so make sure to use the earplugs that are provided.

Honestly, aside from my star reviews, it's one of the better places in George town Rooms: the dorms are not too bad, there aren't curtains for privacy, there are open pockets in the outer walls allowing lots of noise in but aside from that the rooms aren't particularly cold or hot, the beds are comfy and clean and it is securely locked. Service: I had quite the problem when arriving at 10:50, hostelworld said the latest check-in is 11 pm but it's 10:30, there is a self-check-in system that they only notify you of at the very last minute when check-out finishes. So if you are without data, you are screwed as it's emailed to you. The next morning the staff was nice and decent, there were just a few too many issues with late check-ins (despite being notified 😒) Location: In terms of location it's not a bad placement in regards to other stuff, it's just a bit of a walk at all. Not too many complaints there. It's not a bad hostel, I think I just got a bit unlucky, hence it not being rated lower than 4*.

Location 10/10 Assistance 10/10 We had to switch room on next day. They made the experience so smooth without wasting a minute of our time. They made sure that the room we had to shift to is early ready -thanks. Room with bathroom are with too small bathroom. Rooms were okay for that budget and location.

Beautiful concept, WILDLY disorganised- Please try harder. Service: We stayed there for two days as literally didn’t see a single person at the front desk. We did a late check in and were told that we would receive an email with instructions but never did. There was a key box outside with a combination lock and we did not have the combination. Luckily, we were able to use our escape room skills to figure it out so we would not be stranded outside for the night. We were notified by our booking agency that the (non-existent) staff insisted that they had done everything possible to assist our late check in and payment and that we would need to wait for them to arrive at 10:30 in the morning to give them the payment. That’s right, there was still no staff scheduled to be there until 10:30. So we reluctantly waited until 10:30 for them and at 10:35 when the guy showed up he kept insisting that they had done nothing wrong. The staff eventually told us that the information was sent via Agoda, which we did not have access to the app let alone the information at the time. Clearer instructions should really be given to guests, even something as simple as a sign at the front desk stating the time where the staff would be on duty would’ve helped. Also, what hostel would expect all guests to rely on third party apps to do the communication fully? (If so it should’ve been communicated too). Step up your communication game, please. Private room: our room has an impressive view of the mosque. The comments were NOT EXAGGERATING when they said the sound proofing is terrible. Expect deafening traffic noise all night. They should really install sound proofing windows and heavy duty curtains. Space and Vibe: the once frame-making shop converted into a cafe and hostel is a cool concept with beautiful common areas. Cleanliness: good

Very noisy building, street noise in the rooms, small beds, unstable internet, staff that turn on the lights of the room early sunday morning, mosquitoes. The only positive thing about the place its the great cafe in the downstairs, with the coolest baristas. If you care about your sleep or need to work on-line, avoid.

The Frame is the BEST hostel you can book if you want to be in a perfect location and stay in a hotel with the best vibes. The rooms and bathroom are very clean, there is a fridge/water kettle availbale for guests. There is no kitchen so if you're looking for that this is not the right place for you! The staff cleans the whole place everyday and it's extremely available in providing new bed sheets/towels or clean even better (if requested). The hostel also has a cafè inside the place where guests (and outsiders) can buy coffee and some pastries. Since we are working remotely we always pay attention to accomodations having good WI-FI and common spaces to sit and work for long hours, which we found here at The Frame. The only negative point is the frequent noise that you can hear everywhere in the hostel (rooms included) and sometimes it gets annoying (especially at night).

Great hostel! Perfect location, light, spacious, clean and well maintained. Bathroom area and showers are really nice. Not a social hostel though so hard to meet people if that's what you want. If you want some space and down time on your own it's perfect. Air con is great too. Thanks for a great stay!

The best place to stay if youre looking for the backpacking experience! Love the concept, the converted frame workshop to a guesthouse. The famous attractions in Georgetown were just a few minutes walking from the hotel. It’s suitable for those who only needed a place to sleep, shower and rest. Price is also affordable. For single travelers, i would highly recommend this place for its safety, distance and service.

  • 4/5 Keremcan B. 10 months ago on Google
Unfortunately Georgetown lacks decent hostels, and this might be one of the best options. But if you sleep at a dorm facing the street, prepare yourself for the noise of traffic and mosque just across the street.

(been here 26/27 April 2023) Nice hostel, minimalistic and vintage interior. Staff is friendly, they always read and reply chat from online booking. Also if you're confused with the route of public bus, just ask them.

I had a great stay at Frame Guesthouse. The place is super clean, with comfy beds and rooms. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the coffee shop is cute with great coffee. The location is also perfect, right on the bus route and close to all the action. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay in George Town.

Great location, walking distance to many tourist attractions; staff are friendly, they provide towels and ear plugs just in case you need them, as the mosque is located right opposite of this guesthouse.

Hostel was great and clean with lovely staff on reception! It has lots of places to sit and chill as well as a coffee shop. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again if in Penang

Clean, comfy budget hostel. Hard to fault where it is and for the price it's good for a few days exploring. Pros. LOCATION - it's right next to love lane and chulia street markets as well as several bus stops. So easy to find food, bars or get anywhere you want. ROOMS - they are comfy beds, there's secure gates on the property and your door in a private room is lockable and safe. AC was good too. STAFF - reasonably helpful. FACILITIES - Bathrooms are pleasant and there's lots of them. There is a fridge and free water downstairs and a cafe that sells breakfast Con: the reception often wasn't manned and they keep odd hours, bear in mind for checkout. When we asked what to do in Penang on a rainy day, we didn't get much help/recommendations. Common areas aren't great for socialising unless you share dinner on the small table in the reception area or want to watch TV in the lounge.

If you ever wanted to try minimalism you have to stay at this hostel ! So In love with it’s industrial minimal feel and the whole vibe. It’s super clean and you walk barefoot. Staff is super nice and not fake nice like they are afraid of the boss but actually really chill. You get fruit and toast for breakfast. The location couldn’t be any better and noise was not an issue in our room ! Would stay there again if ever in Penang for sure !

My first hostel to stay in and was blown away by the quality of beds in the shared dorms. It's a quiet dorm so that's a perk. It comes with a light breakfast. It's also down a great road leading to love Lane and jims place

Stayed 3 nights in a queen room with shared bedroom. Room and surrounding is clean. It's an old heritage building, the floors are made of wood. You can hear the foot steps quite clearly but usually by 11pm ish the place is pretty quiet. Comes with a nice pantry with facilities to make hot drinks, toast, microwave and also free drinking water. Good location, walking distance to loads of street food and you can also opt to park your scooter/bicycle indoors. Loads of scooter/bicycle rentals down the road. The staff are always very helpful and friendly.

Great breakfast. Clean (everyday I stayed there I saw the hostel floor and shower areas being cleaned multiple times). It's in the middle of Georgetown, so you get within walking distance of almost every heritage attractions. Also, good food nearby (perhaps the best in Malaysia?) from several nationalities. The staff is also really friendly.

  • 3/5 Ben L. 3 years ago on Google
Good hostel with minimal Deco and friendly staff. If you're looking for a place in Georgetown, this hostel is nearby to lots of attractions. Cons: No sound proofing. I got a room by the common shower, and was easily awakened by footsteps on the wooden floor, loud talking in the middle of the night.

  • 1/5 Max C. 1 year ago on Google
Locker broken upon arrival until checkout for 2 days straight and receptionists just informed me they can take care of the important items for me, but seriously, locker was one of the most important part of A HOSTEL. Oh and more importantly, I was assigned to the room which was right next to the street and LITERALLY I CAN BARELY SLEEP FOR 2 NIGHTS STRAIGHT. Not only the wooden floor and the antique structure makes noise, but also the voices from the outside. It feels like you’re sleeping on the street but with a roof over your top. Seriously guys, it’s cheap but we deserve better one, there are plenty of other choices.

Advantage: - Good place and reasonable price. - A lot of food stalls around guesthouse. - Friendly and hospitality staffs. - Free breakfast. Disadvantage: - Smoking area (backyard), the smoke is spread into lobby area. Wish to improve backyard. - Guests were chit chat at lobby midnight.(3am?!) Overall: Good place for rest, relax. ^__^b

Conveniently located and affordable. The rooms are clean and comfortable! The bathrooms are clean and spacious too. The only downside is that the walls are rather thin so sound insulation is really bad. I could hear heavy footsteps from upstairs throughout the night. Even though there are signs for guests to be quiet after a certain time, many do not obey the rule and continue to chit-chat loudly at the common areas until after midnight so it was quite hard to get a good sleep. Overall it's still a lovely place and for the great price and quick accessibility, I would not mind staying here again!

•Quite stuffy and had a distinct odour on arrival throughout the building from the; entrance, hallways, lounge area and our room •A cleaner came into the dorm room Sat at 9am, turned on the lights and changed the sheets of someone who just left the dorm. •Smell was quite offensive during our stay, they don’t have any extractor fans and everything deposited just ruminates since it’s open plan, honestly they just need to buy air freshener, put an extractor fan in the bathrooms or open the front doors for fresh air to circulate. On our checkout day the staff opened the front doors for much needed ventilation •Wifi dips in & out •Plus side: Nice shower gel provided, great location, friendly atmosphere of the other travellers keen to chat

  • 3/5 YJ K. 1 year ago on Google
The private room is quite small, especially the toilet - it's just a showerhead above the toilet bowl. And because there are no windows, mozzies tend to get trapped in the room. The walls are thin, which sucks if you're a light sleeper, especially if there are inconsiderate guests who use the hairdryer at 6am?! The staff aren't the most friendly and there's no daily housekeeping either. BYO towel and toiletries. The location however is great - lotsa yummy food within walking distance. Would recommend if you're looking for a cheaper, fuss-free stay. Or if you are really into the industrial (read: bare) aesthetic.

Among my favourite places to stay while in Penang. Very cozy, Instagram worthy and most importantly the staffs are very friendly and helpful. I will always come back to this place!

I booking the room for 8 person but i dont know why they separate us to 3 different room with stranger (4 beds in a room, 3 beds for us and the another bed is the stranger means that we gonna sleep with stranger???) So we check out immediately dont care about the money we paid even the 3d2n payment can refund or not but it is so dangerous and the environment also bad

Convenient location in the heart of Georgetown. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The place was well maintained and clean. Minimalist features a nice touch as well. The main gripe was that I could barely sleep for three nights. I read the reviews regarding noise and completely overlooked them thinking they might be a tad exaggerated. If you’re a light sleeper, you’ll struggle. Trust me. The walls are ridiculously thin and floorboards struggle to carry weight. Every movement, every conversation carries through the stairs/walls. Loud thudding through the night constantly waking you up. I had to go out and get relatively drunk to endure the final night. I know this sounds silly, but upon checking in, I would advise staff to show guests how to walk properly on the floorboards. Perhaps even create a diagram showing how to shift your weight to walk lightly across the floor and up the stairs.

i booked the double room with private bathroom & found out my room just next to the public bathroom. This arrangement doesn’t make sense. The soundproofing is very bad & I heard the noise everywhere very clearly. The public space is okay
