It is a very charming hotel, the room was very big and unique and the staff is perfect. It is not the place for you if you want a modern hotel with no personality but it is very confortable, the bed is huge and the Aircon works. It's impressive as the hotel is situated right in the middle of everything and yet it is very peacefully and quiet. As a solo traveler I felt safe there.

Not overly impressed. The hotel is tired and worn and some of the restaurations are just plain odd to say the least. The doors to our room looked like fire doors that went into a corridor and were really hard to open. On top of that, the lock is a joke and anyone could easily break into the room. The room was also quite dirty, especially if you looked up. Yes, I know this is a heritage building, but this is third such hotel we've stayed at in Georgetown and it's by far the worst out of the lot, while also being the most expensive. As some other reviewers have pointed out, there are also some very loud party places nearby, but the hotel is at least on the quieter end of love lane. On top of that, our AC sounded like a turboprop, which made it very hard to sleep. Staff was mostly uninterested and not the least bit friendly. Only upsides were the size of the room, the size of the bed, the water pressure and the location.

During our road trip we decided last minute to enjoy an evening in Penang and booked this place from our friend's recommendation. We were greeted by the most friendly staff. Our room waas huge. We love the layout and heritage architecture. The included breakfast was an amazing combination of local cuisine, fruit, local kuey, and freshly squeezed orange juice. We will definitely be back and highly recommended this boutique hotel.

Had a fantastic stay in this very unique and charming hotel. Not your typical hotel with a posh lobby nor floor to ceiling glass windows. But each time coming back from the day's outing feels like coming home. The hotel is suitated near enough to all the places of interest yet far enough that it's never noisy. I can't wax enough lyrical about the service that the hotel provided. When we were stranded in the rain a couple of blocks down, calling the receptionist to see if they are willing to bring us an umbrella, Mr Thomas did not hesitate and braved the pouring rain to find my partner and I. The rooms were clean, very large and spacious with super high ceiling which adds to the openness of the room. The only downside is that the shower drainage was a bit slow. Nevertheless, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone to stay here and experience the hospitality that Thomas and his team would provide you.

Incredible hotel, perfectly located at the center of George Town. The staff is charming, always available and ready to help/provied valuable information. This hotel is a natural escape, well decorated and maintained near the busiest places in town with all restaurants and bars. Only point of attention : as the city is quite noisy in the night (mainly due to moto's driving around), it might be quite noisy in the room as well. The AC is also a bit noisy in the room.

Lovely quaint hotel in Georgetown. Loved the vintage and colonial feel of the entire home. Staff is minimal but there are one or two who are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast spread is not much and the afternoon tea is just biscuits, local kueh and lukewarm coffee/tea. I would stay here again when I visit Penang. Would I recommend this place? Oh yes!

We were disappointed with our stay. Our room had no shower soap, lights were not working, the overhead shower head was broken, and the bathroom had an ant infestation. After talking to the front desk some items were fixed. On our second night we were bitten by some kind of bug in multiple places. Parking is also very challenging. We will be taking our business elsewhere next time.

Comfortable hotel, charming and rustic with helpful front office staff. However, cleaning services were not the best, cups not cleaned and amenities not topped up

This place is a hidden gem in Georgetown! From the beautiful design of the hotel to the friendly staff, it was an absolute pleasure to stay here. The combination of modern and traditional style made me feel right at home and the antique furniture added a touch of nostalgia. The location is perfect, with plenty of eateries in the near vicinity and it's easy to walk around Georgetown. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, even opening their kitchen at 1600 to feed us before our flight. Highly recommend this place!

The hotel exceeded our expectations. We were once caught in a heavy downpour and just 5 mins away from the hotel. Out of desperation, we whatsapp called the hotel in the hopes they would pick up. They did and in the next 2 minutes, Thomas turned up with 2 umbrellas! Thomas is wonderful! The hotel is at the quieter part of the street which was really restful as this was a trip that we decide to relax and while it is super convenient to bars and amazing restaurants, the tranquility of the place is truly appreciated. The convenience is amazing as well and is truly in the heart of georgetown. We get to experience the heritage experience by staying in one without feeling like it was eerie or things were breaking down.

We booked the twin sharing room and stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Nestled away on a quiet corner, this hotel is a haven for those who like their drinks with a side of ambiance. It's just a short walk from the action, plenty of restaurants and street food around. It is also a perfect base for pub crawls and late-night cocktails. Service with a smile: The staff at this hotel are true rockstars. Their warm welcome, friendly smile, genuine helpfulness, and local expertise makes us feel taken care of. Charming with character: This quaint hotel oozes history and charm. From its beautiful heritage architecture to its Instagram-worthy corners, it's a feast for the senses. It is a unique experience that's anything but cookie-cutter. Time capsule with quirks: While the hotel's heritage is undeniable, it comes with some caveats. If you're a stickler for modern amenities and pristine perfection, this might not be your ideal spot. Some rooms, like ours, might have a touch of age about them, and a good freshening up wouldn't go amiss. But if you're a history buff who appreciates character and authenticity, you'll find plenty to love in these well-worn walls.

A Georgetown hidden gem, this place! From the chic hotel design to the kind staff, staying here was an amazing treat. The combination of classic and modern design made me feel completely at home, and the antique furnishings added a nostalgic touch. The location is excellent; there are lots of eateries around, and Georgetown is straightforward to move around on foot. By opening up their kitchen at 1600 to serve us breakfast before our flight, the staff went above and above to make us feel welcome and at ease. Very strongly advised!

This hotel definitely deserves all the positive reviews. It’s the best place we stayed during our 4-week trip in Malaysia and we will definitely come back if we go to Penang again. The location is great, the rooms are really nice too, lots of space and nicely decorated. The staff is genuinely hospitable too, we felt very welcome.

This location is an undiscovered treasure in Georgetown! It was an utter delight to stay here, beginning with the hotel's stunning architecture and ending with the kind and helpful service provided by the staff. The antique furniture brought a touch of warmth and coziness to the space, and the mixture of contemporary and traditional design elements made me feel completely at home. The location is ideal, as there are numerous dining options in the close proximity, and it is not difficult to navigate one's way around Georgetown on foot. The staff was exceptionally helpful and attentive, even opening the kitchen at 1600 to ensure that we had something to eat before our flight. This establishment comes highly recommended!

a lovely boutique hotel in renovated structures. The air conditioning in my room was functional, and the sheets were crisp. It such a tranquil place to spend a few nights as you come and explore Georgetown. Everything was great! The combination of modern and traditional style for the design really does make you feel like home. There’s also a lot of antique furniture that we can see besides the staff was very friendly & the service was great. A very peace and calm place for vacation. We were there for 3 nights. The standout for me in this hotel are: Lovely preserved house; It is tucked away in a quiet area yet not too far from food on carnarvon road or even walking to Penang road; and the outstanding service of Anna and her team must be commended. What I thought can be improved are: Breakfast choices are a little limited; the kettle in our room has a cap that cannot be closed properly - I thought such a detail should have been attended to. Overall, I am positive about this hotel and would have no qualms recommending to my friends and associates.

My husband and I recently stayed their with our 1 and a half year old son and absolutely loved it. We stayed in the Straits Eclectic building and our suite was beautiful, confortable and spacious. Also, for those that are wondering (because I often do when I read reviews) the bathroom was big, airy, has North American style toilets and is well designed. Breakfast was included and was really delicious. Freshly squeezed juice was a welcome treat in the mornings and on return from hot excursions in Penang. Location is within walking distance to all points of interest in Georgetown; so superb. Parking offered for the hotel is in the street and was never a problem for us. Best part of the stay was chatting with the owner who was absolutely wonderful and has clearly renovated and decorated these buildings with much love. As well the staff she has hired are excellent at what they do. They always went out of their way to help (even fixing a broken A/C unit in the middle of the night!). I highly recommend this hotel. It will definitely not disappoint!

It looks nice from the gate and I really like the big yard and how they preserve the old building. Bed is huge but the Ac unit is very noisy. Breakfast is very limited if you don't order from the menu which you have to pay. It's in the quieter end of love lane .

Not for the faint hearted. You could end up hearing other making love all through the night. I wouldn’t stay here.

Perfect quiet oasis in the heart of the Old Town. There is a pantry, a beautiful library, plenty of spaces to get together outside the rooms. They offer free afternoon tea too. The hotel has been restored so it retains its old world charm, combined with their staff's impeccable service. Thank you for a great stay!

I LOVED this place!!! I was concerned before my visit, as I read some bad reviews prior to my stay. I arrived earlier than I was supposed to, they said it was no problem and welcomed me with a drink. My room was beautiful, and very relaxing. I liked the feel of renting out the whole building, instead of just a room. Like some reviewers mentioned, Love Lane is a touristy street, but the hotel is located closer to the end of the street where it is not as loud. I did not mind the sound at all. I also had a chance to talk to the manager (or may be the owner? I wish I asked her) of this place, which made the stay even more special. She told me that the broken ceramic pieces in the glass table at the lobby were something they found during they restore the building. From there, she showed me the book about the restoration at this place and the process of painting walls at this place. She also told me that they were in the process of choosing tea to go more environmentally friendly. She gave me a little box of tea when I asked where I could get this specific tea. She mentioned that the room I was in was actually the room she recently started having the noise complaints. As I said earlier, the noise was not that big of an issue, but she was saying that they were planning on putting insulation of some sort. Apparently, this street next to the room became one-way recently, and it started getting noises from the street as people tend to drive faster on one-way streets. This kind of informational chat is what makes places special. If you are staying at this place, make sure you get to know the place, instead of just taking nice selfies!!

This place definitely suits its name! Beautiful historical building restored in 2007 (?) with antique and contemporary furnishings. The staff here are extremely helpful, friendly and have great sense of humour. I will be returning with the family soon.

The place is really quaint, and exudes old-world charm. Stayed in the family room which is a split-level facility and 2 bathrooms. Suitable for 4 or 5 persons. They serve an afternoon tea which is such a treat after walking around. The staff are really nice and helpful. This is now my favourite place in Penang.

Summary based on one night stay: Great location in a beautiful heritage property with very nice grounds. Very friendly and helpful staff. Got an upgrade to one of the best suite rooms and, frankly, it will be hard to stay anywhere else. Quiet, good aircon and wifi. Stairs for some rooms with no lift. Very good breakfast in adjoining restaurant. In reading some of the negative reviews, I think they may have possibly been for nearby budget properties. Highly recommended.

Gorgeous little boutique hotel, ten rooms and such a wonderful place to stay. My new favorite hotel in Penang! Such a quaint, tranquil place to spend a few nights as you explore Georgetown or bike the island! Staff are fantastic, there's a restaurant attached, breakfast is wonderful and location is perfect. I'll be back.

Boutique hotel the prettiest ever stay! I like the decorations and the facilities are pretty good. The air-conditioning function well. Very recommended for couples or family to stay in. The room are very cleans and comfortable. Very recommended to stay

Always a good stay with great service from the team however, the upkeep of the place could be improved. The rooms smell muggy, mattress lumpy. Think the air conditioning needs a good servicing. The grounds are overgrown with weeds and look unkempt. Please fix this.

The staff is very friendly and helpful!! A very serene boutique hotel that is located at the heritage site of Penang. Though we are not the hotel guests, however, the staff allowed us to visit and shared a lot of information about the hotel with us. Good to go....

A beautiful terrace property on a lovely block of land. The restaurant used for breakfasts is also filled with character. Interesting antiques are found everywhere and the afternoon tea is a lovely thing to offer guests. The staff are helpful and friendly and the air conditioning is wonderful. Eateries are within easy walking distance. Would highly recommend a stay if looking for a property with charm and character.
