Been coming here a few years now and their ramen has always been of a high standard. Of late their quality has been slipping when the kitchen gets really busy. Still a great place to have some piping hot ramen soup with the family. Expect a wait at peak times

The food is average, they serve the food really fast but the service is terrible. The staff are extremely rude especially the cashier. She asked us whether we want our receipt or not. We agreed we didn’t want it, then one of my friends came out (who wasn’t at the cashier when we paid) and said she wants the receipt. So we asked her nicely “hey sorry but actually can we have the receipt” then she was so angry and said “I asked you if you want your receipt and you said no”. I mean yes I know me and friends was at fault as we said we didn’t want the receipt but one of our friend want it. And we haven’t even left the cashier yet. I wouldn’t mind if you can’t print out the receipt for us, but please, you can say it in a more friendly manner. So disappointed. Please train your staff to be more friendly. Thank you

Nao and its Japanese head chef have been serving authentic ramen for many years at their previous and current location, and as other ramen places including international names have popped up and become popular they seemed to have upped the ante and the ramen has gotten better with its rich broth, springy options of noodles, and great toppings. The main seating area is spacious, modern and comfortable. Service is good, although having to line up and order at the front before being seated isn't the best especially when they're busy.

Haven’t been back for a while, so thought we give it a crack. Ordered our food at the Nao Ramen Restaurant and was seated at the Nao Curry Restaurant as it was full house. Service was swift but not as courteous as other Japanese Restaurant. One of the server did not budge with food in hand & expected customer to give way instead. Mind you she just had 2 rice dishes on a tray and not Ramen with hot soup. Ramen was nice but soup tad greasy to my liking, unfortunately the Chicken Karage was not that great. Tasteless & full of oil in the deep fried batter. Left a greasy taste in your mouth which was uncomfortable. Jaws next door does a much better Karage. Might have to give it a miss for a bit for now.

Didn’t like it. Atmosphere its not good. Tables are really close to one another and there are not windows in the restaurant. Artificial light only. There are NOT currently vegan options. Only vegetarian and very poorly (a ramen with broth and noodles, not even veggies or mushrooms). Service is ok and portions are big.

The restaurant serves traditional Japanese cuisine, altered to suit the local palate. Placing an importance on nutrition and intriguing food presentations. Using only the finest and freshest ingredients, you can taste the flavours of quality food at a price that is hard to beat! Diners also get to choose from an extensive menu of other dishes ranging from Ramen, to Sashimi to grilled Kushiyaki. An ideal setting to enjoy an alluring dining experience with friends and family. Come down to get your cravings satisfied!"

Another best ramen in Perth. Shio ramen is my order every time, keep wanting to try other type of soup but always order the same one everytime. Chicken karage and gyoza are not nice but are little too salty for our liking. Curry rice is nice but not the best.

My famil and me went to this place for lunch. We ordered: Chicken Katsu Curry, Cha Shu Ramen, Chicken Ramen, Gyoza and Tokoyaki (squid pieces in a flour ball). Everything tasted good. The service was fast even though the place was full. It is a somewhat cramped place, so might not be so good for kids. Must have been about 15 dollars for a bowl of noodles

Delicious noodles in the heart of the city. Well priced and well thought out ramen dishes. Home stretched noodles with a variety of broth and topping options. I went for the spicy broth with the spare rib topping, additional pork oil and grated garlic. Portions are huge and there is a small corking fee for BYOB. Highly recommend and will be back to sample the other noodle and broth options.

NAO's expanded to the shop lot across from it. Still order like you do (at the current shop), but you might be seated across the arcade, which is quieter and roomier. Great for the weekday lunch rush periods.

I ordered the dipped noodle with seafood topping. The noodle was perfectly cooked to a desired tenderness. I like the good balance of dipped soup in terms of saltiness and temperature (not too hot). However, the flavour and quality of seafood topping failed to meet my expectation. The dumpling was juicy but with a hint of spiciness which was deviated from the authentic Japanese dumplings.

NAO Japanese Ramen is a restaurant serving authentic Japanese ramen right in the Perth CBD. The texture of the noodles is good together with the flavourful soup make it enjoyable meal. I prefer the miso based but other soup flavours seem interesting too. There are other side dishes available and the karaage chicken is highly recommended. Pot of green tea went well with the ramen. Besides the Japanese ramen, you could try the Japanese curry rice with either chicken cutlet or pork cutlet. The curry is not that spicy with the unique Japanese flavour and aroma. Customer service is great. Nice ambient in the restaurant but the lighting is a bit dim.

This has always been one of my favourite places to get ramen ever since I was in uni (which was a long time ago). Their portions are incredibly generous but most importantly the flavours and textures are really spot on. I have thoroughly enjoyed every bowl of ramen that Ive had here, and even the side dishes are a hit as well! The dipping noodles I have yet to try but I’m going to guess that they’re also great. Parking is quite easy to find around the area and they have an overflow section now so there’s really no reason not to try this place! In a city with ramen stores popping up everywhere this still remains one of my favourites.

Nao Ramen started business in 2003 beside Murray St. They moved to 580 Hay St to get a bigger seating capacity. They have been in business for 18 years already. Two years ago before they started Nao Curry, I needed to queue up. This noontime I needed to queue again. Nao Ramen make their ramen noodle and gyoza freshly. Nao is by far the only ramen shop that offers pork spare ribs. My favourite is spicy ramen with pork spare ribs. The semi-boiled egg is a side dish. They used mixed chicken and pork bones to make the ramen broth. The broth undergoes a slow cook for days has to be made salty to keep the broth fresh. Enjoy! (2021-06)

Love their ramen. The shoyu is a bit on the salty side but I like the flavors and their noodles. Service was great as well as the location

Oh, I really like their ramen! There are 4 different colours of noodles you can choose from. Their Takoyaki is something similar in ramen restaurant at Carousel and it's always good. We also tried their yum Chicken Karage. If you love ramen, try NAO Japanese Ramen. Staff are accommodating. Service is fast and the place has a different ambient than any ramen restaurant. 👍👍

Haven't been back for awhile and thought to dine in here again, ramen were good & portions were big even for the normal sizes. But service was a bit slow in busy hours.

A vibrant place for your ordinary ramen fix. Their homemade noodles are nicely textured. I had the spicy miso broth which was much saltier than the shio. Can get a little noisey if you want to chat.

The overall ambience and service staff was excellent. Very modern design and the restaurant was clean and well organized. The food was good. However, the feedback would be 1. The karaage chicken wasn’t the usual deep fried texture, it felt more like grilled chicken. It was still nice but missing crispy chicken and crispy skin. 2. For $16-17 large ramen, the extremely thin slice of cha sui (pork) was quite pathetic. Not even two thin slices, it was one very very very thin slice. 3. Noodles was on the softer texture and the soup was ok. So for ambience and service 4 stars and for food quality and price 3 stars. Since this is a food review, hence 3-3.5 stars is apt.

Been a faithful follower of Nao ramen since the 2010s. This is a return visit since then, as I no longer live here. While the menu holds much more variety now, some felt redundant. My friend and I tried the tsukemen and was surprised that the broth was quite close to the typical soup broth, it would be nice if it was a thicker version fit for the style of dipping noodles! Nonetheless, there is something about this place that keeps me wanting to come back, even after all these years :)

Personally, the best spicy ramen in Perth. The broth is slightly on the salty side but it's worth it. Full of flavour and the noodles are different than the rest of the ramen restaurant's has to offer around Perth.

Had Shoyu and spicy miso, both were overall yummy, the former one had a more clean taste, the spicy miso was a little too salty for me. Chicken karaage was lightly battered, not the crispy type but juicy. Friendly and fast service.

It’s a modified version of ramen soup that we can drink, tasty and not salty. I love them all 💝 Shio ramen has white pepper in it. Miso ramen has its homemade miso. Ramen noodle is also homemade with nice texture. I will try other type of ramen soup or side dishes next time. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Perhaps they can brighten a bit the lighting in the shop. Slightly dim. Overall it’s a good dining experience. I’ll be back 😊

First time trying NAO and we will definitely be back. We tried the shio and shoyu ramen, both were authentic and so delicious. The broth is simple but the flavour is well rounded, my favourite is definitely the shoyu ramen. For sides the fried squid was made perfectly, batter is spot on, bit of lemon and mayo wrapped it together perfectly. for the price point i think this was an excellent choice. We will definitely be back.

Server at the counter was friendly and polite. Ramen is definitely decent, noodles were chewy the way I liked it, and the karaage was the breakout star, well marinated, battered just lightly and not greasy. Lost a star for the greasiness of the broth, and a tad too salty for me. But excellent meal worth a try when in the area.

Have always shied away from sushi trains as I am a fussy eater. My friend suggested here for lunch and I'm so glad I said yes, so fresh and delicious. Already been back a second time in 2 weeks :)

One of our stable places for a taste of japanese ramen in Perth. We had to wait a while for a table on Boxing Day, but that’s a testimony of their popularity. The miso ramen with normal egg noodle and Chashu (pork) is my favourite after sampling all the different ramen. The broth is thick and flavourful, and be warned you will be tempted to finish the whole broth if not careful, and you will need a whole bottle of water later to quench your thirst later in the day. Ordering two miso ramen with extra noodle and one with chicken cost $37.95 with 10% holiday surcharge.

If you are after a good bowl of ramen check this place out. The noodles are fresh and the broth is delicious. Cannot say enough but we will be back. The ambience is relaxing. Great lunch time option which is reasonably priced.

I've been eating here as my #1 ramen place in Perth for over two years. The portions are generous, the food is excellent and the service is superb. There is so much customisation to the ramen here I love it! I highly recommend it, and will continue coming here.

I came to this restaurant by chance. I ordered shio ramen and miso ramen to try. In the meantime, the waiting for ramen with gyoza, which was delicious, was very pleasing to me. The gyoza was a bit hot and smelled of mild spices. I'm not sure if it's the pepper mix or not. The ramen portion is quite tasty. I wish the ramen was a bit more intense because I like the rich flavor. Overall I really like it.

Cute industrial themed restaurant serving amazing ramen with a subtle and light but flavourful broth. Generous portions, good range of options for side dishes, and friendly staff.

  • 5/5 Marina M. 3 years ago on Google
I really recommend this restaurant. Amazing food and portion and fair price. The vegetarian option for the ramen was very good and the tempura veggies too. The best is that the noodles are done by themselves. Would be great more veggie options. I will return for sure. The staff very friendly.

As the ramen broth is really nice and clear, properly cooked and not full of fat like some of the ramen store. Noddle quality is top notch. The curry is great as I'm fan of the Japanese style curry. Good portion (large ramen for my hubby). Our favorite ramen spot in the city when we're craving non Hakata style ramen. A lil bit dark but it's OK.

Average ramen. Decent size portions. Decent price and good service but the ramen is average. Perhaps a tad bit too salty. Okonomiyaki sticks were pretty cool. Doesn't really have the same texture as the actual okonomiyaki. Takoyaki not bad a bit on the runny side if your into that the octopus on the inside was overdone. May not eat here again.

  • 3/5 Dina L. 3 years ago on Google
Not the best ramen that I have tasted. Broth not as thick. But overall I enjoyed it. But their takoyaki is delicious.

For first timers, it can be a little intimidating when ordering, but after your first time you'll be coming back for 2nds and 3rds and so on. If I'm craving Japanese Ramen, this is my go-to place in Perth. Customer service is great and they're quite kind. Its maybe mid-range price-wise for the main meals; the more you add, the more it costs. However if you keep it at the basic options, definitely a great price. For an average person, probably a regular sized ramen would suit, and I'd recommend adding the boiled egg and pork.

A specialist ramen restaurant with home made ramen and a range of broth. You'll definitely taste the difference in the freshness. Definitely worth a trip to this ramen joint! It's apparently where the Perth locals who know their ramen go to for a meal. Highly recommend.

A funky little ramen bar. This place is so great. Thrilled to have found a good ramen bar of this calibre. Miso ramen was salty with a wonderful depth of flavour. The noodles were tender and everything just sang. Will be bringing people back here for sure
