👍👍 The finest Chinese restaurant period. I would always recommend the duck, crayfish and snow crab dishes. When compared to the ones in bigger cities, I think this is the only place that can compete head to head. Not just the food, the ambience of the place is very classy. On top of that, they have... Good for very special occasions only. Venue: Located in Melbourne Hotel. Parking at street or fee payable covered carparks next to the hotel. Definitely fine dining setting and grand Retro decoration. Good ambiance. Very spacious. Comfy seating. The Lazy Susan is already installed into our big round table but not be rotated easily sometimes. --- 8.8/10 Service: reaches 5 starred hotel standards. --- 8.7/10 Food: Generally good presentation. Small portion. Uses Premium ingredients. Expectedly expensive mainly for very good servic, but too expensive for food. We had Ruby Set Menu ($138pp) plus signature Peking Duck (2 courses, $98/whole). Shame! Double Boiled Chicken & Abalone Soup (from the set menu) wasn't available, and we were forced to pick another cheaper and popular soup that the captain suggested. But the captain gave us a larger lobster. She showed us a live lobster first before it's cooked for us. - Apple Juice, $5 - Sliced Duck Wrapped with Pancakes北京片皮鴨, 12pcs: the duck was well roasted. Sliced by the captain. Large and thin slices of Cripsy duck skin. Another waitress wrapped the duck with Hoi Sin Sauce, Cucumber, Chinese Leek, and a super crispy flake. Just rolled up into cigar shape. The shape wasn't a traditional one. The sauce was dripping down from the other side when I was eating --- 9/10 - Sang Choy Bao鴨鬆生菜包, 8pcs: the number of pieces is not matched with Sliced Duck Pancakes. The lettuce was crunchy. A lot of gravy. The combination of fillings was mediocre --- 6/10 - Szechuen Spicy & Sour Seafood Soup四川海鮮酸辣湯: It's instead of Double Boiled Chicken & Abalone Soup. It only had a very little Crab meat and a few deep-fried Silver Fish in my bowl of the basic spicy & sour soup. Have the taste of spicy, but no sour. --- 7/10 Ruby Set Menu ($138pp) for 6: - Braised Live Lobster with E-fu Noodles 上湯龍蝦伊麵: lobster was cooked to perfection. The e-fu noodles were good too. The dish was distributed by the waitress. She should have to show the dish to us before dividing it into 6. And she didn't follow or understand or instruction as a kid needed an extra small bowl of noodles --- 8.5/10 Then, other savory dishes almost served together. - Truffle Seafood Fried Rice 松露海鮮炒飯: full of aroma of black truffles. The frying rice technique was ok. But I and my partner got only one small prawn in our bowls. I was searching over. Where's other seafood? Ridiculous. Don't name it seafood fried rice. --- 6.5/10 - English Spinach Poached in Supreme Chicken Broth 上湯菠菜: with Goji berries. --- 8/10 - Himalayan Seasalt & Black Pepper Wagyu Beef 海鹽黑椒和牛: only this one was large portion. Cooked with Shimeji mushrooms, three colors capsicum & onions. Good beef. Well-balanced --- 9/10 - Steamed Whole Coral Trout with Ginger & Shallot 薑葱蒸東星斑: the fish was too small for 6 adults. It would be ok if for 4 adults. Well- presented. Fish wasn't overcooked. --- 7.7/10 - Braised Half Green Lip Abalone with Sea Cucumber and Japanese Mushrooms 青邊鮑魚炆海参花菇: served with asparagus. Abalone was very thinly sliced and tender. Very small portion of Sea Cucumber. Japanese mushrooms were ok. --- 7.7/10 - Matcha Mousse and Black Sesame Ice cream: Asian flavors. My Mousse and ice cream wasn't well-shaped --- 8.5/10

Peking duck was fantastic. Easily one of the best places to get it in Perth. Thoroughly enjoyed it - especially the theatre of it all. Other dishes were ok, if slightly over priced for what you’re getting. The decor and environment of the restaurant is wonderful, service is great - should try it at least once!

Exquisite service. Staff are extremely friendly and give you all their attention and care. Excellent food. Table had sweet corn soup, crab & sweet corn soup and pork dumplings with spicy chilli (nice and tasty - would be too spicy if you don’t like spice at all). Had the half duck feast, the duck is cut in front of you to make the duck pancakes and then had the duck San choy bow which was very tasty. For mains had the chicken and steak with special fried rice!

One of the nicest Chinese restaurants in Perth! Everything from the ambience to the service was pretty perfect! It's a little on the pricey side, but we had some amazing food here - super tender beef, crispy seasonal veggies... And finished with a delicious fried ice-cream. The only thing we didn't love was the prawn and duck noodle dish - sadly, slightly overcooked... Update: came back and got the Peking duck feast for 2 - the duck was a bit too fatty/thick for my liking, but really loved the steamed toothfish! The set menus are great value!

Hands down The Best Peking roasted duck in Perth! The duck skin is super crispy and we can tell that it was properly prepared by blowing air into the duck before it’s roasted. The sauce, cucumber sticks and crunchy crackers are perfectly balanced with the fatty duck skin. The wok fried Angus beef tenderloin with black pepper sauce is amazing! The beef tenderloin is full of flavour and very tender. We have been coming back every time when we have a craving for Peking duck. Highly recommended!!!

Some of the best done Chinese I've had in the set menu there were a lot of winners. The Peking duck is crunchy, the truffle fries rice was at that sweet spot of dry fluffy rice coated with the flavour of garlicy butter and truffle, the lotus root and vegies weren't bad, and the pepper beef was tender as the mushrooms it came with. The crayfish was a little dry but the seasoning was good. Fried ice cream has some sort of lemon zest in it, rather refreshing

Very delicious Chinese-Cantonese cuisine right in The Melbourne Hotel! We can only order 1 main & a soup as I was travelling with my preteen daughter & was worried of wastage since the food portion in Perth is rather huge. All dishes in the menu were very tempting! We decided on having Grand Oriental Truffle Seafood Fried Rice & Szechuan Hot & Sour Seafood Soup since the staff highlighted that it's her favourite rice dish. Waiting tim for the food to be served wasn't too long. It was quite crowded at the time we were there. I must say the Szechuan Hot & Sour Seafood Soup was soooo good! The taste was awesome. I could taste the fresh ingredients in the soup! Rice was very delicious too! The rice with truffle was very aromatic! There were bits of Scallop & very succulent prawns in it. Even my daughter love it alot! Price was reasonable. Ambiance was very cosy with dimmed lightings. Clean & comfortable. A restaurant that you must visit if u love Chinese-Cantonese cuisine!

The best Peking Duck I have ever had in Perth. Their Truffle Fried Rice is really good as well. Not to mention their fabulous Wasabi Prawn, it was extremely good. Nice ambience and settings with great wine and cocktails list. Also the best service ever even though we arrived late at night. Highly recommended!!!

Good place to find inside a refurbished heritage hotel. I was surprised to see this fine setup Chinese restaurant inside a heritage hotel. The interiors were designed to fit modern and classic heritage architecture that has been in place for the last few decades. Restaurant is spacious and very easy for walk-in guests to get their tables. For food, there are a lot of things to consider. For me the taste were not strong enough to show a strong traditional Chinese food (maybe the taste is modified or a fusion of other cuisine). When I ate there too during busy night, the food serving was considered long because I had to spent 3 hours for a normal dinner. However, on some other tables the guests were served well and there might be some 'Kitchen Operations' that were adjusted for me or my menu. Staffs were very fast (at that night the restaurant was busy too) and responsive to our demands. Price is above average to normal Chinese Restaurant but my in par with Fine Dining Meal pricing. Everything was well, and my only highlight was their Lobster Noodle (the Lobster was amazing). I might consider some few times to re-visit this restaurant, but everyone can try and experience it in your own.

We celebrated CNY, they had few options. We chose "Tiding of Peace" with 7 main course, the scallop was the best one.

Having lived and worked in Hongkong in the hotel business for many years this Chinese restaurant impressed me the most. Firstly the food quality is excellent and authentic accompanied by very good friendly service. Secondly the decor ads to creating a wonderful dinning experience. I would like to compliment the Chef and the restaurant manager for running a five star operation. When we visit Perth again we will definitely have another meal there. Well done Grand Orient!

Found sharp plastic bits in one of our dishes. We complained to the wait staff and they only said they will let the kitchen know. Other than that the food was pretty average. The first course of the Peking duck was nice though, but the rest was okay. Fried ice cream was good too. Doubt I'll return again.

The afternoon tea was ordinary. Tasted like the food from an ordinary restaurant. Neither nice nor bad. The building the restaurant sat in was a fantastic spot; Melbourne Hotel well blended with heritage characteristics and modern design. Worth a visit!

Food: Loved the Szechuan lamb, the Angus beef was nice too. The salt and pepper squid was good but way too salty. The side of chilli paste they give you was really nice as well. Drinks: The Tom Yum cocktail was amazing, one of the best cocktails I’ve had in a long time. However, the tangerine cocktail (not pictured) was quite average - not very flavourful at all and tasted watered down with a hint of tangerine. Overall a good experience, minus the squid being too salty and the tangerine cocktail being nothing special.

Had a nice night here on 26/03/22. Attentive service and tasty food. Especially enjoyed the vegetarian fried rice and bean curd clay pot. The drinks we had were great too

Overall rating 3.75/5 instead of 5/5 on this occassion. One can generally expect excellent food, service & ambience when dining at Grand Orient. As a returning guest, we were a little disappointed on this occassion... Firstly, we were seated in the newly created section - the foyer of the restaurant, facing the closed off alternate door (which lacked the main dining room vibe). Secondly, when we asked our waiter if we had ordered enough food, an extra dish was suggested, unaware we had also placed a seperate order for entree ... we ended up with too much food (6 dishes plus entree amongst 4 pax).

Had the Taste of the Orient banquet with 6 dishes. Ordered the scallops, prawns, fish, beef fillet, pork ribs and lamb. Every single dish tasted absolutely amazing and they were very generous servings. We couldn't finish and took the leftovers away. Used the entertainment book $50 off too! Definitely recommend Grand Orient - 5/5.
