I
absolutely
must
share
my
wonderful
experience
today,
as
a
first-time
Day
Surgery
patient
in
the
private
hospital
at
The
Mount.
Being
a
veteran
of
multiple
day
surgeries
for
pain
relief
and
a
major
surgery
on
my
spine
5
years
ago
it
was
very
interesting
to
note
the
attention
to
detail
and
graciousness
of
the
staff
while
under
pressure.
For
starters,
I
arrived
at
7am
and
it
was
already
very
busy.
I
was
immediately
welcomed
by
reception
downstairs,
guided
as
to
where
to
wait,
and
actually
I
was
a
little
confused,
so
that
advice
was
appreciated.
I
was
processed
fairly
swiftly
there
and
guided
to
the
next
waiting
area.
Day
Surgery
waiting
area
also
was
staffed
by
friendly
receptionists,
despite
there
being
some
very
cranky,
even
rude,
patients.
Well
done!
There
was
a
serious
delay
by
around
8am,
however
Sylvia
from
our
next
ward
came
in
to
explain
as
best
she
could
and
reassure.
This
was
good
to
hear,
as
any
communication
is
useful.
(My
hubbie
was
wondering
about
approximate
time
to
collect
me,
plus,
while
fasting
and
tired,
a
check-in
is
appreciated.)
Next,
the
nursing
station
ahead
of
pre-op
and
I
noticed
how
very
busy
the
3
nurses
(including
Sylvia)
were,
but
attentive
and
kind.
I
have
a
special
advance
medical
directive
and
at
each
stage
all
staff
acknowledged
my
needs
and
this
also
was
very
reassuring,
even
though
the
chances
of
the
directives
being
necessary
were
very
remote.
Thank
you!
The
orderly,
John,
and
later
another,
but
I
was
woozy
so
didn't
catch
his
name,
also
wonderful.
As
were
all
the
nurses
handing
me
over
and
the
pre-op
nurses
(Lisa
and
Taylah?);
absolutely
delightful.
By
this
stage
I
was
shivering
(very
cold,
fanging
for
coffee
and
a
steak
sandwich
but
now
close
to
the
finish
line!),
so
they
made
me
comfy
and
welcome
and
again
acknowledged
my
advance
medical
directive.
The
young
orderly
who
wheeled
me
in
was
really
cheery.
This
all
helps!!
My
fantastic
surgeon
and
equally
fantastic
anesthetist
I
realise
are
independent
but
the
camaraderie
with
the
theatre
staff
is
VERY
telling
in
my
experience,
and
was
pleasing
to
observe.
Thanks
for
allowing
the
cool
soundtrack!
I
woke
up
to
the
wonderful
Hesbe
(spelling?)
assisting
me
in
the
Recovery
ward.
What
a
beautiful,
compassionate
soul,
who
did
not
leave
my
side
until
I
was
comfortable
and
warm.
Her
bedside
manner
was
outstanding
and
handover
very
smooth.
Thank
you,
Hesbe!
Lastly
back
to
Sylvia,
my
discharge
nurse
Sonia,
and
team
(which
now
seemed
to
number
more
than
3
but
still
super
busy),
and
again,
kudos
on
the
cheery
and
attentive
care!
Sonia
even
had
my
preferred
sandwich
sent
up.
It
was
not
steak,
but
it
was
freshly
made
and
I
have
steak
at
home.
Heeheehee.
From
beginning
to
end
I
felt
welcomed,
valued
and
listened
to,
despite
the
pressures
we
all
know
are
happening
in
the
health
sector.
Thank
you
so
much
for
this
very
positive
experience!
If
I
may
make
two
observations;
I
overheard
perhaps
6
carers,
waiting
for
their
patients,
asking
about
a
cafe,
and
somewhere
not
so
very
chilly
to
wait
(Day
Surgery
waiting
area
was
very
cold),
and
if
my
hubby
had
not
returned
to
home
nearby
he'd
have
asked,
too.
I
overheard
the
nearest
cafe
is
not
on
the
premises
so
might
be
inconvenient.
May
I
suggest
a
self-serve
coffee
machine
on
the
ground
floor
near
reception?
The
temperature
there
is
perfect,
the
seating
abundant
and
even
the
view
is
nice
if
you
ignore
the
traffic.
I'm
thinking
of
self-serve
machines
seen
in
hotel
breakfast
rooms.
And
to
cover
costs
in
B&Bs,
when
available,
we
simply
pay
reception
desk
for
the
pods
we
need.
Thanks
so
much
for
a
great
experience
