We had a large meat lovers pizza which was excellent, grilled garlic bread,wings,calamari, chicken parm w/spaghetti, sautéed mushrooms, a small salad,soft drinks and steak sub. This meal fed 3 of us with tons of to-go containers for tomorrow's lunch. With a generous tip, it came to $107. The food came out hot and fast, and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. Great experience...I would recommend it, and will go back.

We arrived at about 7:30 PM. We were seated immediately. The staff and waitress were friendly and professional. It did not take long for the food to arrive. The Eggplant Parmigiana tasted bland. Additionally, it was charred and affected the taste. The Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo was bland, and the shrimp was undersized. Compared to three other local Italian restaurants: The staff, restaurant, and food presentation are on par with the others. The taste of the food was below average expectation. We would not visit again.

First time in the area camping. Great entrees and selections at a reasonable price. The flavor and sausage lasagna and meat sauce spaghetti we had was very good. Good dacor including the tables hanging from the ceiling was a good touch. Will be back! Check out the pic

We are here two times while we were stuck in the area with car troubles. The Italian sampler was awesome. Great sauce! We had baklava and almond cream cake. Let me tell you - you won’t be disappointed! He second night I had chicken Parmesan and he had a gyro platter. Best food around Petersburg Virginia ! The local love this place so you know it’s good ! Servers are friendly ! We will stop back again !

The dough had to be very old it taste like rats been running and playing in it, every bite mad 😭 my flesh crawl. The decor was old and out-of-dated. The service was the best, the young lady is keeping that place running, the owners need to get their son out of that kitchen ASAP. Food Is Horrible.

The Mad Italian is a winner! This is a fantastic old school restaurant. My family and I had a very positive dining experience. The food is excellent as well as their personable service. My kid’s are still talking about the table and chairs affixed to the ceiling. I highly recommend you check this place out.

Local legend. I've been going to the Mad Italian as long as I can remember. Quirky vibe with great, authentic Italian and Greek food prepared with love by first generation Greek immigrants. In the family since the 70s and still going strong. This place is a must. Ideal for date nights or family dinners for special occasions.

The service and attentiveness of the staff is world class and first rate. We never wanted for anything and they were very descriptive for the menu and setting correct expectations. However, the time from ordering to delivery to the table was more than I expected and when it was delivered the food was of lukewarm temperature. An example would be the baked potato. The cheese that was on top had already congealed by the time it got to the table. For the area, I am sure it is an outstanding restaurant. However, if you're from out of town, adjust your expectations.

We went in spur of the moment find. Waitress / hostess was very nice. Service was great. The food. The food wasn't special. It wasn't seasoned from what I could tell. I tried adding cheese and salt to make it taste like anything. We had 3 different items. An Alfredo, a meatball spaghetti and a meatball hoagie. It was all bland. The pasta sauce was runny Not for us sadly :(

I ordered the the mad Italian spaghetti the noodles were over cooked till it was mush the sausage was terrible and the meat balls tasted like they came out of a bag from Walmart the wings in my sampler were burnt and it took an hour to receive my food i wanted sals but they were closed and thought I'd take a chance we'll I rolled the dice and lost

We waited almost 1 hr for our steak dinner and an order of a baked potato. The steak was tough and the waitress was very nice but must have said 6 times “Thank you for your patience.” When I asked if there was a problem she said it was probably the steak they are cooked to order.

Used to go here at least once a month, but I moved 25 minutes away and stopped. Bad idea. Started getting my pizza from here again. Best around. Worth the extra trip.

The Servers are very nice, no complaints about service crew. The Pizza wasn't very good. It Was definitely hot and freshly prepared, Just not tasty. I was really disappointed

Passed up other restaurants because this one on Google showed to be open til 10pm. We got there at 9 and the lady said we are closed. I looked it up and told her your Google page, Facebook, front door hours and your own website says you're open til 10. Her response was we have no control over Google and we've been closing at 9 since the beginning of covid. SMH! Seems to me you've had plenty of time to update your hours. That's a pretty common decent thing to expect of a Restaurant. I'll delete this post once they update their hours, but I'm sure this post will still be here for a few years.

The food was not great. Best part of my meal was the side salad. I had the Alfredo with shrimp, the sauce was right out of a can. There was no flavor of any sort on anything except the garlic bread and most of it was burnt. Keep going don't stop.

It's been years since I've been but the were always an excellent Italian restaurant. However, they've done like everyone else. Lowered the quality. Dad ordered spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were so small you couldn't see them. They were not real meat. The sauce was straight from a can and you could taste the metal. I had chicken parmigiana....the only thing that saved it was the cheese. The alfredo had no flavor. The best part of the meal was the side salad. It's not a restaurant I'll go back to.

Went with a friend for lunch. The menu is very small. There are so few options it blew my mind. When I read the "daily special" section the good was served and priced exactly like the regular price every day of the week. There were a few "specialty" dishes and they were over $20 each and not worth the price. I decided on fettuccine alfredo with grilled chicken and broccoli. What arrived was a large plate with cold food and the most tasteless sauce I've ever had. The chicken looked suspiciously like the grilled chicken you buy in the bag at the grocery store where it's already cooked, seasoned, and sliced up. The garlic bread they have me was a quarter inch thin and had one place on it where the butter mop touched it. The rest of the bread was completely dry. I can't tell you how disappointing this meal was. So much for trying local. My friend couldn't find a thing she liked on the menu and refused to order. This made our server unhappy. My service suffered after that. She walked past me several times after I got my food and I tried to get her attention to no avail. The only thing I liked in the restaurant was the tables upside down hanging from the ceiling. Side note here: I took my leftovers home and they were eaten immediately by my husband who agreed the meal was tasteless. Sorry Mad Italian, I won't be back. I was definitely a mad italian this day!

*Long review coming* I stop here every time I’m in the area for the past 5 or 6 years now & I’m never disappointed. The owners are always so warm & welcoming, as is the staff. The pizza is personally my favorite, but I also love their steak and cheese sub, as well as their steaks. I have never had a steak cooked well done & still be so tender until I started coming here. The Italian Sampler would also be a good choice if you’re looking for a good pasta dish. Their salads are always so fresh & crisp, don’t forget to add their feta cheese & homemade Italian dressing! I buy at least 2 bottles every stop. I’ve seen some of the more recent reviews & I can say that they’re very disheartening. I personally, have never had a bad experience when stopping here. Everyone seasons their food differently so try to keep that in mind when eating out. If you prefer your food a certain way then cook it yourself 🙂 These people haven’t been in business for almost 50 years for nothing. I’ve done my research on the area & there are many places that haven’t even lasted half of that time; especially through the pandemic. If you’re looking for somewhere to get a good, home cooked meal, all the while being treated like family, give this place a try. You will be leaving full and happy.
