We were driving back from a whirlwind trip to N VA, and needed to stop overnight. I found this B&B on Tripadvisor and knew it was the right place. What a good call!! First off, Claudia, the owner/operator, could not be nicer, more gracious, or more laid back. She was completely refreshing. She made perfect recommendations for a local restaurant and a quick activity before we had to leave. She made us a lovely and delicious breakfast and we had a great chat about gardening. She apologized that the mansion is a "work in progress" but we found it absolutely amazing. It is so beautiful and full of character. Most historic places need some work, but it really is a gem. It was easy to find, easy to stay, the Ragland suite was huge and incredibly comfortable. It was one of the hottest days in a long time but the units in the suite cooled everything off quickly upon arrival. The king bed was perfect for us. It is firm but not hard. We both slept great and woke refreshed! I can't recommend The Ragland Mansion strongly enough. If you are one who appreciates character, charm and history, this is the place for you. If you prefer the mundane and predictable, stick with Hamptons or Courtyards. No thanks!

We stayed at this B&B and loved every minute of it. The hostess is so welcoming and thoughtful. The breakfast is amazing. Petersburg is such a cute little town and this B&B is the perfect historical way to experience the area.

Chose Ragland Mansion, strictly from the website and reviews, as a stopover on our way from Savannah to Pennsylvania. We were not disappointed! Claudia was a perfect host with a beautiful home. Many first floor sitting rooms each well stocked with beverages to enjoy. Our room was large and very comfortable. Claudia gave us dinning recommendations and we had a very good meal at Croaker's Spot. A good breakfast set us back on the road happy. Like all historic large homes, it's a work in progress, but that gives it charm, warmth, and history. We were very happy with our stay!

Absolutely delightful! Claudia was readily available and made us feel right at home. Parking is on the property and with Google it was easy to find. I am a southern girl and found the historic home amazing. Our room was spacious and cozy, and most importantly, immaculate! We were offered a glass of wine and found it relaxing to enjoy the outdoor garden. We had a variety to choose from for breakfast, which was served early as we had yet a long way to go. Claudia, we thank you for your hospitality! I hope we have the opportunity to return.

Lovely old mansion with a lovely hostess. Delicious breakfast served buffet style. Skip the chain motels and step back in Petersburg’s history.

What a gem of a place! Claudia and her family have done an amazing job with the restoration, and she was an equally gracious, generous, and attentive host. We had a spacious and beautiful room with a great bathroom with clawfoot tub, breakfast included—a luxury hotel experience for a bargain price! The 19th century furnishings and appointments will transport you back in time, but with modern conveniences and a diverse, welcoming atmosphere. An oasis in downtown Petersburg, and very convenient if you're traveling through the Richmond area like we were. Why stay at a Holiday Inn or Best Western when you could stay here?

I came here recently for my trip for a weekend trip to do Richmond activities with my sister. We didn't like the choices of hotels and settled with a B&B. The house manager was very kind and personable. We arrived 5 minutes late for check in but I made a call once I saw the time and it was no problem 😊 When we arrived we were given a tour and told how breakfast went. Everything seemed clean in the room. The room was very large, we had our own bathroom and queen sized bed. There's also a chest with hangers if needed. We felt pretty safe there and comfy like home. There's unlimited drinks, a fridge and microwave you can use if needed. It was usually very quiet on the inside (you can hear some outside noise from time to time but it's not normally loud). You can control the air conditioning and there is wifi available. Smart TV as well. The other plus is privacy. You can requesto have your room clean otherwise your room will not be entered. Also dogs are allowed! (Ours stayed home). I can earnestly say I enjoyed my stay here and would return if I was in the area :]

Fantastic place making a stop traveling South/North - what a nice little gem. And 1000x better than staying in the usual Marriott/Hilton etc. nice breakfast, free wine and beer, very cozy living room. And the town itself has a great brewery and a couple of excellent restaurants to discover. We walked into town, it’s a 3 min drive if you want to take the car. The brewery in town is fun. We will come back!

Incredible bed & breakfast! Was absolutely stunned about how gorgeous the property is – photographs don't do this place justice! Thanks again to Claudia for being so hospitable.

Not luxury but I absolutely love it. It’s a solid four star stay but I just fell in love with it and had to give it five stars. The hostess is amazing. The building is beautiful it’s like stepping into a piece of history. A massive nine bedroom mansion unfortunately a small plot of land with small parking lot. The Parlor room is just relaxing.

Have been to over 25 B&Bs. Ragland was the best for a photographer like me. The rooms magnificent...the faded glory of a house built in the mid 1800's was perfect - don't want it to look like a Hilton. Incredibly helpful and gracious host, Claudia.

We were on the road trip from NY to FL and so so glad that we chose staying at the amazing Ragland Mansion. The whole place was like a museum, every angle of the view inside, is like a painting. On top of that, we were amazed that how clean that the host Claudia keep it... The next morning we had the delicious breakfast in the dining room with high ceilings, elegant chandeliers, and gorgeous setting that beat the most of fancy restaurant, we felt that we were totally under dressed haha lol ... We can't wait to go back again & definitely will stay for more nights. Thank you again Claudia🌹😊.

What a beautiful home and a gracious host! It's hard to make a nearly 10,000 square foot residence "cozy" but the host did so. If you are traveling to the Richmond/Petersburg area, I highly recommend you stay at the Ragland Mansion.

This house was a Wonderfully appointed 19th century home! Not only was it beautiful, clean, and tastefully decorated, but the ambience is marvelous. Claudia is an excellent hostess, and her attention to detail is above reproach. I would recommend this bed-and-breakfast to anyone who loves historical detail, but also wants a warm and welcome to stay. The rooms are very large, and the closet tub did not disappoint!

This was such an incredible experience staying at the Ragland Mansion! All the history has been meticulously preserved in every room you walk in to. Claudia, the owner, was simply the best! She gave us a tour as soon as we checked in. She took our breakfast order the night before and had it ready at our preferred time. We had such a great time during our road trip, that we stayed again on our way back home. We also brought our puppy and he had a blast walking through the enormous mansion. We stayed in the Library room which provided quick access outside to let our puppy out. The Library room was a great size, clean with all the amenities needed in a room. My fiancé and I will be making a trip here again in the fall! We love this place! Thanks a million Claudia! You’re the best! - YURI ALMONTE, Orlando FL Realtor @REALESTATEBYYURI

Such a beautiful space! Checking in was easy and we had no trouble finding parking close by. Our room was spacious, clean, and we loved the vintage style of it. Claudia was such a kind and helpful hostess while we were there and breakfast was great! Overall a fantastic experience and we will definitely keep it in mind the next time we're in the area.

Communication with the owner Claudia was superb. The Mansion is very clean, the decor was appropriate, the room and bed were very comfortable. Breakfast was great. Coffee, juices and a variety of selections. My wife and I highly recommend The Ragland Mansion and we would stay there again the next time we are in Petersburg.!! 😃

Really elegant and maintained home where you can just park and walk to Petersburg things to do. So much space to dine in the big rooms, coffee & drinks everywhere inside, a sweet back area with tables and chairs to sip wine (complimentary) and write postcards. Large bedrooms, modern heat/water. And Claudia is a warm and gracious host and chef. Thanks!

A stay at the Ragland Mansion is a step back into time. Elegant room after room, sit in a chair and soak in the ambiance of mid- to late-19th century furnishings. A very special experience from the usual I-95 trappings. You'll be surprised at just how accommodating the Ragland Mansion is to the weary traveller!

Found ourselves needing to stay in the Petersburg area last minute for a baseball tournament. I was able to reserve two rooms the week of our travel. The mansion is beautiful inside, there are some renovations going on but nothing that detracts from the beauty of the home. The manager couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating to us. The food portion was very good, the amenities were all there, no sacrifice even though the building was built in the mid 1800's. We would absolutely stay here again if we find ourselves in this neck of the country.

Absolutely magnificent. I stayed in the Georgetown room, which is stunning. Beautiful room and bathroom complete with a clawfoot tub perfect for soaking. Claudia, the proprietor, could not have been more gracious and accommodating. I'm a local who just needed a relaxing night away, and she will be seeing me again, as frequently as possible!

My 16 year old daughter and I stayed here and we loved every minute. We just wish we could have done more than 1 night. She is already making plans to go back with a fancy dress so she can pretend it is her home.

I cannot say enough great things about Ragland Mansion and Claudia the owner. Our rooms were beautiful and beds comfy. Breakfast was very well prepared, fresh fruit, bacon, sausage, eggs. Plenty of coffee whenever you wanted. But the topper was Claudia driving my sister and I to Richmond airport and stopping on the way so we could get lunch. We did not ask her to take us, she offered out of goodness of her heart because our flight did not leave until 8pm and we were kind of stuck there due to our rides having to leave early that day. The Ragland is very close to some great places to eat, the Dixie Cafe, and Brickhouse Run amongst others.

The home is a classic and so nicely decorated. The hostess is terrific and her breakfast was wonderful. The breakfast areas accommodate large groups as well as two people to sit quietly away from the crowd. Our room was huge and so very clean. Take a break from staying in a cookie-cutter chain hotel and treat yourself to something special. The home is a short walking distance to the house where President Lincoln met General Grant just before the end of the Civil War and a short drive to the Blandford Church and Cemetery. You can walk to the historic part of Petersburg...about a mile away....and not worry about parking.
