Let me start off by saying I've been to the Richmond location so its the same owners but this location is blahh.Only reason I gave 2 stars because our waiter was so sweet. Appetizers fried chicken:basically breaded frozen chicken with feathers sticking out.I was shocked that I basically was told that's the way it came so there's nothing they can do about it(how about cut it off before serving 🙄 Drink:Supposed to be a strawberry margaritas.Horrible a bunch of ice instead of it frozen😒 Entree:Fried fish shrimp mac and collards. Shrimp and collards were well seasoned and good my fish and mac were bland.WTH makes bland mac and cheese.I always give a place 2 times before I call it quits but nothing about this place appealed to me to come back a second time.Bad enough ww stopped in the snow just to eat here☹

Never had a disappointing meal. You know you're going to get a taste of soul, healthy portions and a nice atmosphere. I moved out of state but always make sure this place is on my list for a visit!

A bit on the pricey side, Whiting is a very inexpensive fish that they charge a premium price for! Other than that, red potatos, cabbage & the pepper & onion thing they have were pretty good! The mac & cheese on the menu was not ready, and the 1 glass of pepsi they brought me was flat, and soft drink had to be substituted!!! Pictured is a 24$ fish dinner!

Went to Croaker's on the way back from Florida, after looking it up on Google maps. I had the seafood feast. I can definitely tell you the seafood feast is enough for at least two people. It was very good. I'd saved it in my personal maps, and when swinging by Virginia again it is definitely going to be a side stop for me to eat there again.

First the GOOD: I am a southern girl so I love a good soul food spot. I decided to check out this spot after it was recommended to me by a couple of people. The food was pretty good. I had the 3 piece wing meal. It came with two sides and a BIG piece of cornbread. The chicken was cooked fresh and the greens were very welled seasoned. The waitress was also very kind and gave me the run down of the menu. Now the NOT SO GOOD: This place is a bit pricey. I paid $44 for my meal. The bread was good but a little bit too sweet for my taste. I ordered the Uptown to drink (half lemonade and half tea). Not enough tea was mixed in for me and no refill was offered. They also add an 18% tip to your bill automatically. I am a big believer in tipping, but don't want it added to my bill. I do however recommended giving it a try.

Had a great time. Waitress was very nice but didn't come back to the table often enough and we couldn't find her. Our tip was added in and it was only 4 of us. That was unusual and we didn't like that. The prices are a little too high especially for fried fish.

This location has got Soul Food down to a science! Corn bread, Red Mashed Potatoes, and Fried Oysters were amazing! The Chicken was prepared very well with cheese over top with onions and green peppers. Now my plate had all the fried goods: shrimp, crab cakes, and Whiting Fish Filets. They were fantastic, when it comes down to fried foods its all about the breading and oil. The breading mixture is not too heavy and not too light, and this is perfect to bring out flavor. Our server Crystal was very sweet and friendly! The place was popular on a Saturday so it was a 30min wait for a table and a few extra minutes wait for our food, but when it arrived we got everything all at once! They do automatically place an 18% gratuity on the bill, and our server said they share the tips as part of a pool. The atmosphere of staff and being in historical Petersburg, you really can imagine how wonderful live music would be.

It was a hot Saturday evening and my husband and I and 2 other couples were wanting to enjoy a meal together. Our first choice was closed, so we decided to go to Croakers. The restaurant was lively (reminded me of a place you’d find in New Orleans or Charleston SC), the architecture was rustic and interesting, but it was uncomfortably warm in there. The restaurant had a difficult time finding seats for our party of 6, so we waited well over an hour to be seated. Once seated it took us about 15 minutes to get drinks and another 30 or more to get our meals. Everyone got a variety but none of the food “WOWED” us except for the cornbread (delish and huge). During my meal I almost choked on my fish. I had to run to the bathroom and pull 5 fish bones out of my bottom gums (they were like needles). Never have I ever eaten whiting with so many bones! Then further into the meal I began to have an allergic reaction and had to take Benadryl. I’m guessing my fish might have been cross contaminated with shrimp (which I’m allergic to). I told the waiter about the bones and that they need to warn people, but he just brushed me off. This place was an overpriced waste of time and money. We have no plans to return.

I loved it here, and everything was wonderful. We had so many items off the menu (sides: onion gravy, greens & coleslaw- greatness) . Even so, they had so many more things of interest to try on future visits. It's been a long time since I have had fresh, well seasoned (not salty), seafood in VA, or even NC. I could tell they took time and effort to make our meal. My limeade was great (not overly sugared and NO fake lime flavor). The drink my husband2be had was NOT disappointing, like 95% of the places we have been to. Waitress was so welcoming & I love the building as well.

Excellent place for lunch or dinner in historic old Town Petersburg. The atmosphere of the old round farmer's market building sets the ambiance for either a quaint lunch or romantic dinner. Plenty of space for larger groups but groups will only be seated once everyone is present. The food was delicious. Choices focus mainly around seafood but other options available and just as delicious.

Absolutely fantastic food and service!! Patrice was amazing! We drove in from Suffolk, VA. I ordered a seafood platter with fish, shrimp, and a crab cake with collard greens and yams😋 Everything was great! And it was plenty of food!! The crab cake may have been the only item that didn’t wow my taste buds, but was still good. Also, if you have to choose between the collards and cabbage….get the collards 😉

This food was amazing. The customer service from the time I walked in was on point. I placed my order at the bar and it took only approximately 20min to be prepared. The food was fresh and it was so good. I will definitely come back again. I’ve already told several people here around the Ft Lee area to come by. This is a must for soul food.

Absolutely loved this restaurant. Incredible cornbread and crab cakes. The best part was the service. Zach S was funny, kind, attentive, and someone that makes you want to go back just for the experience. 10/10 would recommend. We will definitely be back!

First of all Norman C, our waiter was the absolute best. Professional, humorous, attentive yet let us eat...he was great!! Now, this was our first visit and I love the venue. We shared The Ultimate, which gave us a healthy sample of everything. Fresh, hot, incredibly seasoned,...Delicious. The Croaker Spot Petersburg is the Truth!!

The food here is amazing 👏🏾 I am an Alumni from VSU and I make it a point to visit either Croaker Spot location. My husband and friends had their first visit and they were just flabbergasted about how the food was so good. The cornbread taste like cake. Literally everything we ordered was superior. We compare all soul food restaurants to this one and none can match. Thank you Croaker for being amazing. Staff was like family and they moved as quickly as possible. The wait is what it is but always worth it! So don't show up starving but get ready to eat some mind blowing soul food!

Horrible experience! Party of three, seated immediately. One hour and five minutes later, our sodas, water, and glass of wine arrived. Sodas were wrong. Couple beside us, who were seated several minutes after us, received their food before we even received our drinks. Appetizers finally came an hour and 30 ish minutes mark. Main meal arrived well after 2 hours mark. While we sat, the same experience happened to another couple. They sat forever waiting for their drinks to arrive. Meanwhile, a couple across from them who were seated well after them received drinks and food before their drinks arrived. Restaurant was not crowded and had multiple open tables. Food was ok, but not worth the price and definitely not worth the gross inequity of service. Fried oysters were tiny, oysters Rockefeller were gritty and had shell pieces in them but had a good taste, fish was very bony. Five buffalo shrimp appetizer were very small salad size shrimp but sauce was delicious. I give this one star only because zero stars is not an option. Will never return. Please don’t confuse this with the Richmond croakers spot. The Richmond restaurant is wonderful in every way.

A gem! This restaurant is located in a scenic part of Petersburg on a cobblestone street. Not only is the building beautiful, but it's decorated with historical objects and the vibe is live! The food was delicious. I had the Blackened Chicken dinner, which was well seasoned, served with baked Mac and Cheese, steamed cabbage and fresh cornbread. I also had the Croaker's Cool Aid cocktail, which is a good drink for those who like sweet drinks that creep up on you. My only complaint is that the food took long to come out. We were a large party and ordered it for takeout, so that may have been a factor. Other than that, our Bartender TQ was great and kept us laughing in the meantime. The staff is welcoming and the atmosphere is familiar. Great spot!

SO GOOD! the food was fresh and I forget what it's called, but the steamed green peppers & onions with the special secret sauce was AMAZING! I've never had anything like that before and I would eat that everyday if I could, it was that good. Our waitress, Shantell was wonderful and did the best job making sure we were well taken care of! I really enjoyed having my ten year anniversary dinner here. Definitely going to be coming back for any other special occasions from now on! The proportions of the food you get is well worth the money and the cornbread really hit the spot. Everything was so good! I just loved it so much! Thankyou for providing amazing food and wonderful service, it's hard to come by these days. If you're reading this, just go and eat here already and see for yourself! *and don't complain about the way they do tips; if you can't tip then go eat at McDonald's or something!

First time here. Fathers day afternoon. Very nice atmosphere. Wait b4 meal was good. Sat outside. Wait once inside was a bit much for no special order. Want to try again in the night life scene. Thumbs up to Crystal for taking care of us.

Soooo delicious! The cornbread tastes like cake, sweet and dense. Broiled crab cakes are packed with crab meat and well seasoned. Cheesy grits rich and creamy and delicious. I’m a sucker for good ranch dressing and the dressing with the salad did not disappoint. Not pictured red velvet cake which no surprise is moist and decadent, but honestly I think I’d want more cornbread for dessert 😂🤣

I wish I could give more than 5 Stars. I had the Famous fish Boat with cheese and I can see why it's famous. It was spectacular. The cornbread was sweet and perfect. All brought to our table by Demi with the sweetest smile and most excellent service! If you're passing through stop in and enjoy the best restaurant in Ole Town Petersburg.

Everything was so very flavorful, especially the collards (superb) and veggie fish concoction (original, interesting, delish) and cornbread (sweet, with a crunch), mac and cheese (excellent). Atmosphere and service were terrific. The only issue we had were two small fish bones found in the dinner.

Meals were great portion size for the dollar amount. They have a full service bar, which allows you to wait for your table. The food is on the expensive side, but the clam chowder was really good. $11 for a cup of soup and $15.50 for a bowl, which comes with a piece of Cornbread. No refills on fountain drinks. Bar drinks were made very good. They do allow for group events on the second floor. The server was nice!

It was a great Sunday evening dining experience. The service was excellent and personalized. We all enjoyed our meals, with plenty to carry home as well. This was my first time eating at this location & I throughly love the atmosphere and the building.. I definitely look forward to returning.

You can not go wrong with a meal from here. Everything is cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The drinks are expensive, but good. They use a system in which you sign in and they will text you when your table is ready. We had several severs walk past our table without acknowledging us. We even went to the hostess stand to ask who was our server. After patiently waiting our waitress stopped by and apologized. It’s a table two we’re sharing and each thought the other had us. Because she was apologetic, very friendly and helpful it didn’t change the great time that was had at dinner.

First time at the Petersburg location I’ve been to the one in Richmond many times and this one is better. Bigger and better building the food was great, the fish was hot and crispy well seasoned. The yams were my favorite😊

This place is fantastic and has earned every single one of its five stars. We stopped here by chance after picking it out of a list of local restaurants while we were passing through Petersburg. I'm SO glad we did! We have good timing because we got there right when they reopened from a power outage, so they apologized in advance for the delay the kitchen would have because some prep work didn't get done. Honestly? We barely noticed. The appetizer came out super fast, and the entrees felt like they didn't take long at all. If that was them on a bad day I'm sure they are lightning fast on their best!! The food is out of this world. Best cornbread I've ever had, and the Mac and cheese was to die for. Highly recommend! Service is excellent as well. The server visited frequently and kept drinks topped up. They even gave us free dessert for our patience which was unnecessary but so appreciated! I wish we lived local so we could visit more often but we will absolutely stop here every time we pass through! They have earned our loyalty for sure.

We held my mom's 70th birthday party here and it was beyond amazing. From the initial booking up until the day of Thomas, event coordinator, made sure we had everything we needed. He is patient, efficient, and super resourceful. All of food came looking better than expected. Our server Zach provided A+ service. The way those drinks and plates were carried it was like we were queens & kings for the day. Definitely host your special event here.

Go hungry. I shared the ultimate feast with my husband and we couldn't finish it all. They give a lot of food and it is good... that cornbread. Enough said. Try the Tropical Storm. Hope you get Zach. He was very attentive and helpful. Will have to visit again when we're in the area.

Visited this location for a lunch meeting and the service was amazing. Our waitress Shantell was very swift with bringing our drinks and food. She was also very knowledgeable about all of the food and drinks on the menu. The food was a amazing. The portions were so big that we had to both get to go boxes. I always get the lime aide and shrimp and grits !

I'm glad to see someone having success in this building. The restaurant that was here in 2019 was really, really bad. Pros: Kristol was a great server. She tolerated our group well. There were some people in my group who changed their orders multiple time. It took my table 10 minutes to order, and she dealt with them very professionally. Kudos. The food was excellent. The shrimp and clam chowder were outstanding. Cons: It's extremely expensive for the amount of food you receive. Even ordering smaller appetizer plates will set you back $30, and that's before any drinks and the 18% gratuity they include. The guy bussing the tables asked us to pass all our plates to him after dinner. I thought that was odd. I've never been asked to pass my plates to a busser before. If you're going to include an 18% gratuity, I think you should be clearing your guest's plates for them.
