This legendary South Philly sandwich joint lives up to its long-held reputation. The roast beef sandwich & french fries are delicious, the atmosphere & hospitality are warm, the beer is cold. There are no pretensions, gimmicks, or flavor of the week at Old Original Nick's — just a genuine salt-of-the-earth simplicity. Comfort food in a comfortable place.

5/12/22...ordered the combo, onion rings, and gravy fries. Served by Michele, such a friendly, nice server. Food, so very good. A combo is a hot roast beef sandwich with provolone cheese. Gravy fries are french fries covered with pieces of beef and brown gravy. If you want something other than roast beef, there is also pork, turkey and ham. My personal favorite, the beef and the fries either plain or with gravy.

Place your order, and in a blink of an eye your mouthwatering meal is placed before you. Finger licking good!! Don't waste that gravy on napkins! Lol! Very tender juicy and delicious, I had the broccoli rabe & prov on top, wow soo soo good I ate half before I remembered to snap a picture...sorry not sorry about the bite marks! Will definitely return with friends and family. Lauren is the best server! She knows what you want before you ask for it, extremely efficient and fun, she definitely enhances the experience. Thank you Nick's hope to return soon and wish you prosperity for many more years & generations to come!

Gravy fries were delicious! We got takeout but you're probably better off eating there so you can enjoy the extra gravy

It's always a cool time. We discuss sports and just laugh. Cutters are really nice, as well as the bartender Chris.

First of all, I grew up on Nick’s! I haven’t been in years and decided to stop pass. SO GOOD! Still after not having it for 5 plus years so delicious! Staff was friendly. Service was quick! The ordering process was simple! Love this place! I will be returning!

Not what it used to be. The roast beef is covered in a thick brown gravy that tasted like Franco-American. I thought the beef used to be in it's juices. ( Au Jus ) The server Michelle was very nice. This is not a $10.00 sandwich. This is South Philly, You can get a better beef or pork anywhere.

The food amazing so worth every penny ! What draws me away is the guys who are cooks always giving the server attitude & always trying to close up early & taking so many smoke breaks like I get it you guys like to puff while working but at least make sure all customers are happy ! Running out of beef on weekends early so not be a priority ! You guys are good place too eat not so much great service from the cooks give you mean looks & just stare you down like you owe them something only cause you can’t wait to get the best roast beef in Philly 😢😢😢

I had a hot roast pork sandwich with provolone and kong hots. It was amazing, so fresh and so much meat. My friend had the hot ham sandwich. It's a nice lunch spot. The service was very fast and friendly.

Good place for a quick pick me up in a pinch. Food is hot and fresh and the fries are really good. Combo cheese is melts and delicious, gravy is the perfect amount of salty to slightly creamy. Don’t sleep on this place. Grab a beer while you wait.

My husband loves the roast beef sandwich. The cook was nice, the bar tender was nice. It's a regular Philly bar type of place.

Ifound this place on Yelp. Very highly rated. I had to try them. I arrived in Philly and immediately headed for Nick's. I arrived and sat at the bar. The waiter came over, and i told him it was my first time. What should i get? Of course, he recommended the roast beef. I said, hook me up, and he did. The roast beef sangawich filled the whole roll. It had cheese and a gravy / sauce. They had a small jar of horseradish, nice and spicy to add to the meal. Wow. What flavor. The horsey sauce was the topping on the cake (sangawich). That thing hit the spot. This was the best roast beef I've had. This is a must if you're in the area. Now I have another reason to come to Philly. I recommend.

They have the best roast beef sandwich you will ever eat in your life. A must have when in Philly. You won't regret it. And the gentlemen behind the counter were awesome.

All their air conditioners were broken. The guy barked that it was because they have 500 degree ovens. I was going to Nick’s before this guy was born. The air conditioners were not working. It was well over 100°. And I don’t think the sandwiches are as good as they used to be. It also has lost its institutional memory. The waitress said only been there for eight months. I I don’t think there’s anybody in that place that knew the original people. I didn’t even see the pictures that they used to be there. The waitress had never heard of Lucy. It’s like not hearing of Martha Washington.

Bar in the front, tables in the back. Seating is self-serve. Wait staff and kitchen staff were friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. Recommend the fries with gravy and roast beef.

After seeing a video or two of 'Old Nick's' roast beef on YouTube, I knew I would have to see for myself when I visited Philly. I was not disappointed. The bar itself was great. Sat down, watched a Philles game with plenty of beers on tap and colourful locals adding to a great atmosphere... And then there's the beef. Well, it is what it is. If you like roast beef, you'll love what you're served here. As a Brit, it was some of the best beef I've had and the gravy was second to none. That said, do not skip on the roast turkey. The roast turkey, gravy and fries was the best thing I ate in all of Philly. Delicious. Will definitely visit again. Oh and the staff were friendly and welcoming too, which was appreciated.

Roast beef combo was amazing. Comes with peppers and horseradish sauce on side. These go great with sandwich! Very tender and flavorful meat. Very messy, drippy sandwich so just be prepared.

My friend that grew up in Philly told me it will be the best sandwich you will ever have. Had the roast beef and he was correct. Amazing sandwich, best I’ve ever had.

Great atmosphere, my friend and I split a roast beef & extra provolone w/ an Italian long hot. We also split a roast pork, provolone w/ broccoli rob. The roast beef was great perfect amount of gravy and served on a Kaiser, long hot was an enjoyable hot, I was not in there sweating from it. Not a huge fan of broccoli rob but I ate it, it was okay and pork was a nice salty to it. More of a coke fan, and they had Pepsi products. Locals where definitely friendly so that was a plus, a man bought a round of drinks and included my friend and I. I would drop in again for sure

Love Nicks… or what was Nicks…. Ate 2 Roast beefs on site and took 4 home for family… NO GRAVY FRIES…AGAIN… 6-months and 3 rd try…. Now NO BEEF IN THE GRAVY…. Sandwich was only 2 layers deep….really only half a sandwich… the new normal…. But at twice the cost….horrible parking and streets like Stalingrad or Beirut… filled with garbage and broken glass…great taste but what a hassle Indiana Jones and the treasure of the LOST ROAST BEEF Wished this was a positive review but its not….NOBODY SEEMED TO LIKE NEW COKE…..but they went and changed it anyway because they knew more about their product than their paying customers…..right?

Had the roast beef and roast pork. We also had the poutine and per the waitresses suggestion we had birch beer. Absolutely amazing food. I believe the waitress was Mary Ann (been a couple months since visit) absolutely 10/10 recommend stopping in.

They must've had my prior post deleted. Be careful using your card here. Went to get drinks here with a few friends one night and ended up with 2 extra charges on my card. One was for $5, the other was for $100. Do yourself a favor, stay on the safe side and use cash, it get roast beef at Tom n Jerry's in Ridley - it's better there anyway

Always get the roast beef sandwiches, I have yet to be disappointed, the other Nick's are not the same as this one! Their sandwiches were wayyyy to dry but this store always has just the right amount of gravy! Travel there ever week!!!

Great food and okay service, but kicked everyone out while they were still technically open in the middle of a world series game. Was planning on buying more food and drinks but had to go elsewhere for the rest of the game, along with all of the other patrons inside.
