While this place has Philly steak that can taste good drenched in cheese whiz, I had mine without any cheese and just with mushrooms and onions so I can taste the quality of the meat, the bread, etc. The sandwich was tasty but I would not say it is the best Philly cheese steak out there. This place is just now a tourist attraction and they make their money from being famous but they are just downright rude. Maybe they are just playing their part being "south Philly". I also tasted Geno's sub and liked their bread better as it was softer, their onion was cooked better with more flavor and their meat was of better quality. Geno's was a cleaner place, more updated and quality of entire sub and everything that went into it was of better quality even their napkins were better and thicker. The people at Geno's were nicer. Pat's subs were bigger and if it is drenched in cheese whiz it can make it tastier I suppose.

Sometimes you can be a victim of your own success. Pat's, the originator of cheesesteaks, is the king of steaks on this corner. But of course, there are now even better examples elsewhere. But forget that - there's something about coming here and trying the sandwiches against each others. Pat's beats Geno's. And while you're enjoying that cooked steak with gooey cheese, that's all that matters. Worth a visit for sure.

My friend and I decided to do a taste test between the 2 dueling Philly Cheese steaks. Pat's and Geno's. There are kiddie corner from each other which was convenient. While my friend disagreed with me, I felt Pat's was far superior in taste. Pat's uses sharp provolone, chopped steak and fried peppers and onions that seem to have a sweetness to them with a hint of spice - possibly paprika. Whatever it was it was fantastic!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

Hands down, the better of the two local venues. Steak is flavorful, lots of cheese and the bread is fresh. Don't be afraid of the line... It moves quick. Only downside... They only take cash.... So make sure you have it with you.

Really loved Pat's! Super quick service, prices ranging from 10-20 USD, great service. Got the Philly with extra Provolone, it was amazing! Had to use Pat's spicy sauce and some chili's they had to add a kick to it. Note: they only take cash.

European's perspective here. This restaurant is great and the food is excellent. It's a simple place that gets the job done, nothing fancy and it doesn't need to be. Service is fast and efficient even when it's crowded(and it usually is, this place is really popular). The cheese stake is good and juicy, and definitely recommend it with some cheesy fries. Not for the faint of heart. Recommend.

Well my family and I were so excited to try a Philly cheese steak and we decided to try out Pat's. Well the location itself was pretty hard to get to and good luck finding a parking spot. I ordered a cheese steak with onion and cheese whiz. The cheese steak was a huge letdown. $15 for a steak sub with no flavor. It lacked of salt and seasoning. It was a great disappointment.

Not my first time in Philadelphia but was my wife's so we were doing tourist things. I made sure she would get to experience different sandwiches on this trip !!! It would be incomplete without the Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Had to try Geno's steaks as it is popular. We decided to give them a try (split the sandwich) then head to the competition and do the same. Definitely not disappointed with the decision.. We went for the Wit peppers and onions steak with shrooms, provolone....and oh my, it was so delicious!!! I added some peppers for extra kick and it was perfect. I highly recommend. Only negative... it’s cash only. Line wasn't long when we got there. Pro tip the have a line just for sandwiches They also have a line just for fries and drinks. Respectfully, Bryan Oklahoma City

Got the cheesesteak with whiz and whit (onions) at both Pat’s and Geno’s to compare. For us, the difference was pretty noticeable in that Pat’s steak meat is far more shredded, and the cheese more runny. It was definitely messier than Geno’s. However, Geno’s steak meat is thicker-cut slices with denser cheese, so it’s down to personal preference. The line moves fast and the food comes fast, so the wait is not bad. Don’t expect friendly service, as expected of a place trying to get you through as quick as possible. Condiment bar available with ketchup, mustard, relish, hot sauce, and peppers. Outdoor picnic seating available, if you can nab a spot.

Just OK cheesesteak. Got the sandwich “wit out” onions and with provolone. The bread is hard style roll that’s tough to chew through. The cheese was almost a non factor and not very noticeable so definitely ask for extra cheese, if you get provolone. The steak itself was chopped and fine. Pat’s is definitely the less flashy of the two establishments at the Passyunk intersection. But still, worth a try if you’re inclined. The sandwiches aren’t cheap and it’s cash only.

Have no idea what all the hype is about! I'm from Scranton PA and was in Philly to watch the cowboys romp the eagles. And figured I'd stop at Pat's to see if they really are as good as everyone says they are and I can honestly say that nobody goes there for the food. The best thing there was their fries which is $7 for a little complimentary cup! People are definitely only going there for the experience! Extremely disappointed with the quality of food. Might have been good quality steak but absolutely no flavor in the rolls were not fresh at all. What you would figure that they wouldn't have stale bread because how many hoagies they sell but that's not the case.

Pat's King of Steaks seemed more of Check Mark on a Tourist Bucket list than a restaurant. The 'personal touch' is non-existent, and the sandwich was made in 2 seconds while I was still getting my receipt of payment... not many options either... peppers and mushrooms were not to be found. Price was high for bare minimum food and taste... but at least I can say I was there with a picture.

One of my Philly bucket list items has been to try an authentic steak from either Pat's or Geno's. We decided on Pat's. It was delicious - I ate the entire thing, and I don't normally make it through half. Seating was tough, but we went to the park next door. Recommendation: look at the menu ahead of time and know what and how to order. Cheese fries weren't our favorite, but then Pat's is the King of Steaks, not the King of Fries.

We didn't get a change to eat at Gino's but Pats was good. I wouldn't say they were the best Philly cheese steaks I've ever had though. We did not get cheese wiz which is probably were we went wrong but it was still a decent Philly.

Historical place to eat the local cheesesteak sandwich. Not a lot of options, you are there to eat a cheesesteak! Everything was great but the pizza fries were amazing! Service was extremely fast but not friendly. Tables are outdoors and you can see a lot of birds. There are separate lines, one for the sandwich and the other one for sides and beverages. Credit cards accepted!

Always enjoy. Geno's used to have better meat but Pat's had better bread and if you're going to have a sandwich then the bread has to right. But now I think Pat's meat was as good or better. Definitely recommend. Always enjoy my meal there. "Wit & whiz" Best way to go.

Super fast and extremely tasty! The cheesesteak here is a must if you are in Philly. Dress appropriately for the weather! You will be outside so don't be complaining if you wore shorts and a T-shirt in the middle of December. Just sayin. Seriously get you one of these and enjoy!

This place is zomething that always makes smile on my face. Been here 4-5 times so far, and every single time was so tasty, so perfect! Love even waiting in a row, cause that's all part of the story, and that story worths a lot! Pat's cheesesteak is a experience I'm always happy to do once again.

Didn't do the comparing test, so my next visit will be to Geno's. My opinion. The meat was a little chewy but was still well flavored and the added onions and cheese took it to another level of flavor. Would very much recommend and eat Again. Cheesy fries was also a hit. Dudes back there were also pretty helpful.

Their food are good but not for the amount you paid for! They dont have ample seating. Place needs an upgrade with the cash they are getting. They are CASH BASIS ONLY.

Amazingly fast and efficient service, delicious cheesesteak and very cool neighborhood! Don’t be afraid of the line, I’ve never seen service workers hustle faster than at Pat’s. The inside scoop from locals that live in the neighborhood is that Pat’s has thinner sliced steak. Also, their fries were delicious!

Don't be fooled by this place or the one in front of it; they are tourist traps! The sandwiches are incredibly greasy and have no flavor. While the meat was juicy and not overcooked, it lacked seasoning entirely, and the overpowering grease smell was unpleasant. The bread was quite mediocre, and the cheese was chewy and flavorless (I tried Provolone - perhaps their other cheeses are better, but I'm not sure). The only saving grace was the crispy fries. If you wanna try a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, I recommend going to Angelo's or John's Roast Pork instead.

We tried Pat’s and Geno’s side by side. We thought Geno’s edged out Pat’s. Pat’s fries and service are definitely better. Be prepared to order - things move quickly! Pat’s is definitely a little meat-heavier. Get the onions and get the wiz.

The cheesesteak was natural, tender and delicious. I took a bite from my son’s mushrooms steak sandwich, he loved it. My mom as well, she ordered the provolone steak sandwich. It’s not the first time we ate here.Service is fast,a bit pricey, but beef also.

Complete waste of my time coming here. People hype it up way too much for these basic Cheese steaks. Parking is horrible, seating is horrible and wait time is also crazy. But the worst part is the customer service. They want you to hurry up, order and GTFO. Dont bother coming here for these basic sandwiches.

Another tasty treat not to be missed. You know you came here to settle the debate on who's is better! Food was great. Service was good. Very little parking so you might have to walk a little to get here.

Well, i understand the significance of this place and the experience people go for- however i think this is overhyped. Food is highly processed and not great for you, service is not the nicest- if you have a question good luck getting an answer. However it is a unique experience and if it’s on your list- try it. I just wasn’t impressed. Portions are huge but also for 3 of us we paid $50- in my opinion steep price for an average meal. Next time we will try their next door neighbor and compare.

What can I say? It’s the iconic Pat’s King of Steaks in Philly! If you are craving an old school cheese steak, this the place to come to. The look, the location, the crew, the vibe, the local folks, Pat’s won’t disappoint!

Best CheeseSteak in Philly!!!! We tried subs from Geno’s and Pats while we was in Philly and Pats was hands down our favorite! More cheese more onions and way more flavor/seasoning on the meat than Geno’s!!!! Pat’s also excepts cards while Geno’s does not. Service was faster here and customer service was even better!! Seriously come to Pat’s to get the top rated and best Cheesesteak you won’t regret it!!! It’s worth the wait as they do get very busy!!

Incredible! Five stars. A local favorite and definitely a favorite for tourists. Parking may be a challenge on a busy weekend, but don't let that discourage you. Enjoy the entire experience from the journey getting there, waiting in line, placing your order, and eating your first Philly Cheese Steak.

First time in Philly so I had to try both Pat’s and Geno’s. I thought Geno’s was better overall – much more flavorful. I got the whiz wit at both and found Pat’s to be a little bland. Still, it’s a historic location, and even appeared in the original Rocky film, as denoted with a plaque on the pavement where Sylvester Stallone stood.

Pats was delicious. A lot more cheese than Geno’s but pretty compatible otherwise as far as taste goes. The staff is friendly and there isn’t a big line if you get there before 11

Am amazing gastronomic institution in Philadelphia. I was 2 miles to get my Philly Cheesesteak from Pat's, and then 2 miles back to my hotel and it was worth every step. Any visitor to Philadelphia must go for a Cheesesteak from where they originated from in 1930.

This place has been around forever and always visited by tourist but they don't have a ton of patience for first timers. It's designed to pick up and keep it moving. Parking in the area is quite difficult. The grill is on all day and depending on your order they'll add onions or whatever you asked for serve it to you ultra fast. The food was pretty good almost exactly what I expected. I learned that in Philly, American cheese is default white American cheese not the yellow. They DO accept credit or debit card payments for a surcharge of 3%. Overall, it was good.

I had an American classic a Philli cheese steak from Pat’s King of Steak. It was a pepper cheese stake with onions and Cheez Whiz. Tasted just as expected and was very good and worth the wait. Once you are at the window it goes fast. The line is much shorter than it looks. Food is great!

The best Cheese Steak Sandwich you can get! The fries are underrated! This place is a must visit when travelling down the eastern coast. The restaurant just feels original and you can see and taste that they have been doing their business for many years. The sandwich was perfect. And also the fries are extremly tasty so do not miss them! We would love to come back here on our next trip. Keep going!

We came here around midnight on Sat night and it was as if it was 6p. The place was hopping, long but quick queues. Great urban ambiance and a reflection of the melting pot of various countries and cultures that makes up Philly! Oh, if it's your first time - read the ordering "rules" before it's too late 😆

Pat's King of Steaks has been a Philadelphia institution since 1930, and it's no wonder why it's your favorite. The mouthwatering combination of tender, thinly sliced steak, melted cheese, and fresh bread creates an unforgettable culinary experience. Every bite is a taste of tradition and history, making it a must-have while visiting Philly. The friendly service and vibrant atmosphere add to the overall enjoyment of the meal. Pat's King of Steaks truly lives up to its reputation as a classic destination for an authentic Philly cheesesteak that's worth savoring again and again.

I'm from Philadelphia 40 years living here and I was driving by and figured I'd try it and personally it's nothing special. I prefer the cheese mixed with the meat not cold cheese thrown on a roll. I know they're famous but you can get better from almost any other pizza shop in the city and it'll cost less too. $15 for a cheese steak is pretty expensive. The only positive to me was the roll it was really good. I'll have to try Genos and see what is better

AWESOME CHEESESTEAK AND UNLIKE GENO’S ACROSS THE STREET THEY ACTUALLY PUT A GOOD PORTION OF MEAT ON THEIR SANDWICHES. IF YOU ARE UNDECIDED ABOUT WHICH CHEESESTEAK YOU SHOULD HAVE YOU SHOULD CHOOSE PAT’S BECAUSE GENO’S SKIMPS ON THE MEAT . THEY HAVE A LITTLE STAND WITH WHOLE CHERRY PEPPERS AND KETCHUP ON THE SIDE . EASY TO FIND PARKING AND SEATING EVEN ON A SATURDAY. DO NOT WEAR ANY OUT OF TOWN SPORTS MERCHANDISE OR TALK SPORTS WHEN IN PHILLY .

Did a little cheesesteak challenge one sunny afternoon recently and was pleasantly surprised with stop # 1 on my journey. I understand that there are other more popular steak options in the area but Pat's stood out to me. Nice bread, ample meat and excellent cheese all put together was a success in my stomach! Their rival across the street, although also tasty, couldn't hold up to the big P. Will be back..

Pat’s is always my goto whenever I’m in town. The originality and iconic look. Although the cost has surely gone up. I just can’t resist the taste with them cherry peppers. They don’t leave the peppers out anymore so you’ll have to ask for them at the drink window to the left. The service is always the classic Philly attitude. Doesn’t bother me much but the wife didn’t like it so.

Who makes it better? Geno’s or Pats? Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to this question but I can tell you why I chose Pats. I chose Pats because supposedly, they have been around for much longer. My bf and I came here for lunch to try a little bit of Philly. He got a cheesesteak sandwich with the Whiz and I got mine with provolone cheese on top. My opinion on it: There wasn’t much flavor going on with the steak. You definitely need the cheese topping, peppers and onions to get a flavor going on. The bread was decent quality and was not soggy at all, which I appreciate very much. It was very large and filling. I would recommend you give it try just because it is very popular and you may like it. Please note that there always seems to be a line outside this place. That’s always a good sign for the food. Compare it with other cheesesteak sandwiches and decide for yourself on who makes it the best!
