I came for the Harry Potter experience and stayed for the rest of the museum. And I would say as an adult on my own, that took me about half a day. If I had kids, it would take significantly more, I think. The Harry Potter experience takes a solid hour or so to go through. You check in and get a wristband that you can tap throughout the experience to earn points for your chosen house. It's beautifully lit and designed, with several interactive bits and photo ops. I loved most the port key and the dueling wands! From HP, you can more or less make your way from the top of the museum to the bottom, via a large central stairwell featuring Foucault's Pendulum, proving the rotation of the earth on an axis. There's a kinetic energy area great for little kids, a sport zone where you can test your skills, a 3D printer in a tech studio, walk inside a giant heart (adults can totally fit!), play with electricity, stand on a map of Philadelphia, pretend to do a weather forecast, climb into a fighter jet, and see a humongous steam train up close. It's mostly aimed at kids, but I still enjoyed walking around and touching stuff. I even caught a fun theater show about liquid nitrogen. If you're an adult and interested in Harry Potter, you might want to just do that, but if you've never been to the Franklin Institute, it's definitely worth walking around the rest as well.

This Institute is a wonderful place for science enthusiasts. This place is really huge in terms of different exhibitions. The place consists of various halls on different levels and each one of them is specific to a particular field or branch of Science. There are many wonderful models that explain the complex scientific concepts in a very easy and engaging way. I highly recommend this place especially for school going students as the place creates a curiosity towards learning Science.

Fantastic experience for kids and adults alike! To begin, the architecture and lobby are breathtaking. We went for the Disney 100 exhibition, which was fantastic for all ages. The interactive science exhibits were also a lot of fun, these are certainly aimed more at children, but our party of all adults had a blast too. The GIANT heart is very cool. Hugely recommend this museum. We were rushed at 2.5 hours. I’d recommend allotting 3-4 hours to not feel rushed.

Loved visiting the Harry Potter Exhibition and Franklin institute. Lots of hands on experiences, and while they did have some hand sanitizer stations, I felt it helpful to have my own with me. My girls loved exploring this place! Also, we ate lunch at the Eatery, which was such a positive experience. We were a bit confused when we first came in, but a friendly woman was right there to point us in the right directions. She even had the cooks prepare my daughter a burger without cheese. Everything was great! The burger was amazing

Amazing! It had so much things to do! The Harry Potter exhibit was outstanding! I recommend going there. The eatery was amazing cheap and good food. The workers where super nice and helpful. Tip when I got there parking near there was full so try to find somewhere else to park. Also you'll have to walk a few.blocks to the Franklin Institute.

It is very interactive museum! It is my favorite museum in Philly! I recommend everyone to visit, it is quite popular spot in Philly, with a lot of activities and it is also gets very busy during holidays. They have also planetarium at night! It is perfect place for a dates, and also solo travelers!

The Franklin institute is one of the coolest science museums we've ever been to! There are 4 levels of super cool exhibits and the Harry Potter exhibit we went to was spectacular. It has a planetarium, trains, planes, space stuff, electricity, brains, heart exhibit... everything that is fun to look at scientifically. Even the restaurant inside was delicious. I highly recommend it! 👌

Great place for kids to learn and explore science. Then planetarium experiences great.!they have multiple types of shows for that. They also have Liquid and Combustion shows which are very entertaining for the kids. Their new space experience is amazing. They have many interactive displays that keeps the young minds engaged and curious to learn. Their Electricity section is also great where you can wait for the Faraday cage to go on every hour in the hour. Overall a great experience and a must do for late elementary and up kids.

Hands down an amazing Museum for adults and families with kids of all ages! The demonstration room with combustion and liquid air were phenomenal. The speakers were well versed and made the experience fun and engaging! I just can speak highly enough for this experience. It was a learning experience and made us feel like kids! If in Philly come to this Museum! It is worth every penny.

I specifically came here for the Disney 100 exhibit. I was not expecting it to be as large as it was. There were so many great things to look at from original artwork, costumes, clay models, set props. You literally walk through the history of all things Disney from animation creation, set design, Disney parks, music and so much more. I’m so glad I was able to make it to the limited time exhibit and hope to return before it’s gone.

I visited this museum for the first time yesterday and I have to say that this place is absolutely fantastic. The exhibits are so interesting and totally interactive. It is a great learning experience for young kids and adults like myself. My favorite exhibit was The Giant Heart, but be forewarned even though you can enter the actual Giant Heart it is a tight squeeze and if a person is claustrophobic they are going to feel very uncomfortable. The museum makes sure that there are plenty of hand sanitizing stations located at every exhibit and encourages people to use them. Children between 3 and 12 need to wear a mask inside of the building. For those interested they have a parking lot on the 21st Street side of the building and they also have stroller and wheelchair access as well. I highly recommend this museum and I will definitely come here again in the future cause I still need to see the Planetarium.

Visited The Franklin Institute to see the Harry Potter Exhibition. It was an amazing experience. My husband who is really not into Harry Potter as much as I am and only has watched the movies had so much fun! It was great to have things that were hands on and earn point for your house. They definitely did great making the exhibit. I recommended it to anyone who LOVES Harry Potter!!! Didn't post too many pictures... Didn't want to ruin it for anyone.

Buy your tickets ahead of time and plan your visit. There is so much to do! My kids are 14 and 16 but they still wanted to race in the sports area. They touched everything! Don't worry, there are plenty of sanitizing stations set up at the entrance and exit of each exhibit. We were there for four hours before the Harry Potter exhibit! We did not get to do everything we wanted and ended up so tired! We even took a break right before by sitting through one of the planetarium shows. Harry Potter fan? Make sure to dress up! You register at a kiosk and they take a picture which will appear on every interactive screen you swipe your special wristband on. You also earn points for your house! You can take a picture by the portrait of The Fat Lady, the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets, or Umbridge's desk. And much more! I don't want to ruin it if you haven't been. But definitely plan ahead.

More people should take advantage of the Franklin Institute now that it's basically empty, due to the covid restrictions. As a kid, I used to wish I had more time to play with all of the activities. I finally had that chance today with my son! Not to mention that the outside area is open to run and play in as well. Only downside is that you need to remember to bring your own food. Only vending machines are open.

Fun place to spend an afternoon. We didn’t pay extra for the Harry Potter exhibit but there was plenty to do! We walked through a human heart, saw a real Tesla coil up close and working, learned about the human brain and a bunch of other fun interactive exhibits. The planetarium could definitely use an upgrade and make sure to sit in The center of the room…. All in all a fun 5 hrs

I expected that our group of six would enjoy our time at The Franklin Institute, but I can truly say that it exceeded our expectations. This is not your average science museum. I think the main difference and why it’s so delightful is because it offers lives shows and hands on exhibits. The lives shows are designed to keep even the smallest of children engaged, laughing, AND learning. The hands-on exhibits provide children with the ability to learn through visual displays and touch. As an adult, I was incredibly impressed to see how the exhibits help you visualize and understand concepts that you may think you already know. This museum isn’t cheap, so make sure to schedule the most from your visit by prioritizing the live shows and then exploring the hands-on exhibits on your own time.

I had an amazing experience there! There is so much interesting things to see! There is plenty of interactions for kids and adults alike! There is a play ground for the kids to play outside! There is a Science show which the kids and adults too, love! It’s a bit pricy and when I went not all parts of the institutes was open. But over all I had an awesome time!

If your looking for an epic time, this place is for you. The Franklin Institute never gets old, there is so much to see and experience. The parking is decent, it's a great place for the kids and family to participate and enjoy science, astrology, human anatomy, historical technology and etc. Hand sanitizers and cleansing wipes are located at every entrance and stairways. Must wear a mask before entering.

Very good museum. The heart dissection was very enlightening. The planetarium show was a bit disappointing. Overall, the museum is a gem because of the interactive exhibits. They are clean, very well-maintained and very creative. I loved the ones in the electricity and the train exhibits.

Had lot of exhibits for the price. The wax museum was very diverse and included a lot of African American history which I appreciated. You have to buy the tickets online in advanced. I went on a Saturday and it wasn’t crowded. Social distancing is good here. Plenty of spots with wipes and hand sanitizer. I felt really safe.

Great for kids and adults! Great museum with lots of interactivity for kids of all ages. Review just for the general admission. They do have a special exhibit you pay separately for. They had the Disney 100 out at the time but we decided to pass as I heard there wasn't much interactive station for the younger kids. Took my 3 and 8 year old sons and they both had a great time. It took about 4-5 hours to go through everything there. Three floors split into different themes and the shows were all great. Definitely worth seeing the live science show on the 3rd floor. About 20 mins long and both my kids were engaged as they did a good job talking with the audience. Plenty of tables and seats for lunch. We brought lunch as well as I bought a chicken sandwich and fries at their cafeteria, "the Eatery" and it was decent. Nothing to race about but it was hot food It was nice that you can just grab and go so no real lines. Parking: they do have street parking walking distance all around the museum but they do have a 3 hour limit. They do have a parking garage underneath and it is $20. Overall a great place for kids and adults to learn more about science and have a good time. You can definitely spend more than 4 hours there. Worth checking out if you haven't checked it out before.

My children loved this place, especially the Brain and heart exhibits. I enjoyed the flight exhibit and my husband loved the machine area. The cafe area is large with plenty of seating and lots of food, drinks and snack options. You are also able to bring your own food as many people packed lunches for their kids and themselves. For additional fees, you can purchase tickets to the planetarium and the traveling exhibits. This is definitely cool place to bring the kids or to come enjoy as an adult.

This is as fun today as it was when we last went over 8 years ago. Our kids are older but still enjoyed it. Of course mostly same exhibits but the Disney was new (required timed entry purchased ahead of time which meant it wasn't overly crowded). It wasn't very science-related but if you're a animates/Disney fan you'd probably like it. The brain was one our favorite areas including the play/climbing structure. The heart was the favorite of my 5year old.

This place is so much fun with the kids. They have a Lego exhibition that just opened up. Get here at open to get the slot of the Lego exhibition. Do not skip the planetarium tour where they show you constellations. There were a lot of interactive exhibits which were a lot of fun for our kids. You can easily spend half a day here.

We had the best party there,we came from Sacred Heart Hospital before it closed this was the last official party for Drs and nurses,we had the whole place for employees, excellent food and all the wine we could drink plus a orchestra,I came to the party in a white Limo with another couple, after the party we drove all over Philadelphia and had a blast. This party brought about many good memories from the hospital since we were a close knit group. And Ben Franklin was standing next to me

Awe! Childhood memories 🤍because adulthood can be so exhausting. Hehe! Although I’ve visited this museum many times in my youthful years, I was really able to enjoy it with a better understanding. I was able to take my time and read all of the literature, meet friendly strangers, eat lunch in a clean and comfortable environment, and the STAFF went above and beyond, effortlessly; especially in the cafeteria. So much knowledge was gained and gathered from my experience. I learned so much about my body and its ability to function in a healthy manner. I enjoyed learning more about the fundamentals and techniques of the body, the brain structure etc, and the heart. Just a GEM 💎 in my city! Philadelphia has a lot of good stuff going on, especially within the museums. 🧱♥️

The Franklin Institute never fails to impress. Always clean, staff are friendly and enthusiastic about their jobs. The exhibits are spaced out and always functioning properly. Timed tickets made our visit feel safe as there were not many people there. It is accessible with a stroller and there are many places to park near by. We are excited to be members for the next year so we can take our time exploring all it has to offer.

Several hands on exhibits and so much to do that you will definitely need the whole day. Great Museum and great learning environment. And the Escape room was absolutely amazing. Definitely advance and technological the best escape room Ive ever been to(and I've done several of them). This whole place is a recommendation and you really do get your moneys worth here.

I really loved Space, Sports and Train room...also don't miss the Giant heart which you can walk into. I would recommend spending atleast 4 hours - half day if you plan to see all exhibits. It's great place for kids to learn and have fun. IG:- journey_man16

Really enjoyed the space section and the heart! Some of the stuff wasn’t working which was a bummer but overall I really enjoyed this museum and the ability to interact and touch the displays. This is a great place to bring kids and I would definitely recommend if you wanted to let them run around because there are obstacle-like rooms. I went with my boyfriend and we enjoyed ourselves as adults! Definitely good as a more affordable museum and interesting.

Great activities and exhibits throughout. All staff members were very friendly. Eatery had modest selection of foods but taste were inline with food price. I liked how mist of the serving materials were recyclable. Only downside was that car park is expensive and both electrical car chsrgers were out of order.

Definitely a fun day. Plan ahead and get your tickets online. 3-4 hours should be adequate to see everything but if you want to do all the planetarium shows as well, plan to spend all day to get it all in. We opted for the yearly membership since we are close enough to make multiple trips throughout the year.

On the smaller side but still enjoyable. If you’ve ever been to a planetarium this one has one but it’s not very well thought out. Regular chairs on a circular floor, after a few mins your neck can really start to hurt. Still a fun day tho, went during the Disney 100 exhibition.

We had a great time with our children at the Franklin Institute. There was a temporary exhibit regarding Disney and a liy of the innovation they have had over the past 100 years. Our children really loved the walk through heart and the brain they could climb in. The sports area focused on physics was very cool as well. We went on a Sunday and it honestly wasn't too crowded. The kids really enjoyed doing their own weathercast. If you have a free weekend head down there, but give yourself several hours.

So much fun! I haven’t been here since I was a kid, so it was nice being back. We were there for a good 4 to 5 hours. Apparently the train part was being renovated so that part was closed. Hopefully it’ll be open again when we’re there next.

I had both of my boys out with me today! @franklininstitute never disappoints and because it was the Holiday weekend, the crowds were at a minimum. This place serves up a healthy mix of fun and science for the whole family and was more than enough to keep a 40 something, 21 year old, and preschooler entertained for a solid 2 hours. We probably could’ve stayed even longer to fully take in the exhibits but the little had zero patience for all of the exploring his brother and I wanted to do. We definitely have to go back on a school day 😂

  • 4/5 Elizabeth B. 7 months ago on Google
Really fun. Definitely more kid focused (I went with my partner and we felt like it was a bit crazy with kids running amuck) but still fun to experiment with all the interactive exhibits. If you’re a germaphobe; this place isn’t for you; the hands on component of the exhibits seem rarely cleaned and often touched. A bit pricey for what it is.

Visited for the Harry Potter Exhibition. The Harry Potter stuff was cool. Lots of things to see, like props, clothing and classrooms from the movies. There were a few interactive spots as well. Best of all, there are plenty of places to take pictures! Overall, I was impressed with the exhibit, but I think I expected more from it. It was very fast to go through and even though we went on a weekday, it was very busy. After we completed the Harry a potter Exhibit, we walked around the rest of the museum which probably took no more than 45 minutes. I would say the museum is geared more for kids than adults.

We decided to go see the Disney 100 experience as well as the rest of the institute. Accessible entrance was quick and easy. Security helped us find the elevator and direct us to where we wanted. The accessible entrances to the Cafe weren't super clear however. You had to leave the main lobby into the atrium then into the ticket booth then loop back to the front to get to the Cafe. The Disney experience itself was pretty cool. It was fun to see how Walt started the journey, how the movies and shows are animated, and music toed to them all. They had alot of replicas of original sketches as well as live action props or original books. The overall experience was maybe 45 to 60 minutes. I felt the price was a little high for essentially looking at props and seeing descriptions. I expected a bit more interactivity from this like past experiences. The institute itself is pretty cool. They have a massive pendulum to prove the earth's axis. A large room about hearts where you can have kids walk through a heart or learn about the blood cells and such. Another section was all about electricity and its uses. Unfortunately one of the set pieces was not working that demonstrated electricity flowing from one hand to the other. They had a really cool air show section. In here you can see how different forms of air affect materials. A section where you can make a ball hover or blow up a balloon. My favorite is a area to build whirlygigs and paper airplanes that you can then launch. There was also a large jet you could sit in for photos. On the top floor there is a sports zone for kids to get their energy out while learning about kinetic energy. We had our 4 month old so did not stay here long. They also have these science shows every hour or so discussing various things and demonstrating them with experiments. We sat in for the combustion experiment demonstrated by Mr Fox. Fox is a wonderful man very kind and spent time talking with us before and after the show. Even when our son started to cry he tried to use the show to help him relax. Highly recommend both the show and Mr fox. I do highly recommend their after hours events. During these they have curated themes for the month with varying experiments and shows to watch. We went for valentines day and learned so much about what love is chemically as well as how varying animals reproduce all while having drinks and snacks. Parking outside can be a little difficult depending how you do it. They do have a garage you can pay I think 20 usd for the day. There's also a side limited parking lot with a outdoor gym next to it. Otherwise there is street parking all around it. The only downside that I want to mention was not every bathroom had a changing table for our baby. Specifically third floor outside the sports zone neither the men's or women's room had one. We ended up having to use a bench as we couldn't wait.

This is mostly for kids and not worth the price. A lot of the interactive things were broken. The store had a sign that said be back in 45 minutes but with no time indicating when it was posted. The optical illusions were okay. The best thing was the planetarium show and that was because the guy running it was funny.

I came to see the Harry Potter exhibit and it was absolutely amazing. There was so much to see, I honestly did not expect it. Place is a must if you are in the Philly area!! Great for the entire family! Every exhibit is big enough to get the child's attention without becoming redundant, and it is intricate enough to keep older kids and adults engaged in the exhibits. The train station, planetarium, the heart, and the brain were impressive! Every corner has something interesting to see and interact with. The place is big, so even when it is crowded, there is plenty of space to roam around, without feeling like you are bumping into people nonstop. The parking is an interesting experience, so take your time. There is a relatively small sign compared to everything around it that shows the way. If you drive a large pick up, find street parking, or a larger nearby deck. This is truly an amazing place to visit.

Over all it was interesting, however there's some things that we missed out on due to the COVID restrictions. I think that it will be more entertaining after things are ever back to normal.

Same Franklin Institute as i’ve known for years but with some changes. Some of the things that are harder to sanitize were closed but a good amount of exhibits were open. I’ve been here many times and the franklin institute never disappoints. A lot of new things were added since my last time here in 2019. Although it’s not the full FI experience it’s still very engaging and a great learning experience for you and your kids.

Great place for kids and adults alike. It's fun, educational and hands on learning. There are three floors of exhibits with most being permanent, but there are many new exhibits on display through out the year. It's a really grand place that requires 4+ hours to completely walk though. The FI also has a planetarium and telescopes on the roof for stargazing after sunset.

Went to Madam Tussands wax exhibit and the figures were life like. It was alot of fun and so realistic with a space to chat outside at the end, i would definitely do that again.

Not used to writing reviews, but I must say that every time we come here (I usually come with my grandkids) it's such a revitalizing experience and I genuinely always have a good time. I'm aware that you have memberships, but do you have aarp and/or senior citizen discounts? Would very much like to know.

Pre-pandemic their adult nights with varying themes were the best! If they get the opportunity to bring them back, I highly suggest it as a date or a group outing. It’s the best way too experience the museum/observatory, no kids and a glass of wine in hand.

Lots of fun and tons to learn! Best way to learn science is to interact with it. So many interesting exhibits as well. Great time for families, especially younger kids.

Amazing science museum in Philadelphia, established in 1824, named after the famous American scientist Benjamin Franklin and it also houses the Benjamin Franklin National Memorial. It's one of the oldest centers of science education and development in the United States. Highly recommended to visit, great experience!

Our wedding at the Franklin Institute was perfect and STUNNING! My husband and I knew we wanted our wedding to be in Philly because it represents us as a couple since we spend so much time out and about in the city. We have no regrets with choosing the Franklin Institute as our reception venue. It was an amazing night that our guests and we will never forget! My Mom and I booked tours at 9 different reception venues in Philly. The Franklin Institute was the first of our 9 visits. As a teacher that has had field trips at the FI, I just wasn't sure that I wanted to have my wedding at the same location that I've brought kindergarteners to for a field trip. Boy am I glad I gave it a chance. After seeing the Franklin Institute on the first day of our first visits, it was clear that every other venue paled in comparison. Sure, there were some beautiful venues but none of them came close to the unique and breathtaking elements that the FI had to offer. You can have your cocktail hour in the brain which is so unique. We loved that our guests could have an interactive experience! It was really neat for out-of-towners as well as people that just haven't been to the FI in ages. The light and sound package can't be beat! As your guests enter the main dining room, the lights change, a video plays and the whole reception experience transforms right before your eyes. You choose all of your light settings ahead of time and you are able to project any logos, photos or videos that you want! There are engineers on site the night of your wedding to ensure everything is running smoothly. We got lots of compliments on the slideshow we had running throughout the length of the reception. Even more amazing than the light and sound package?! The GINORMOUS statue of Ben overlooking the most amazing night of your life. You can't get a better dance floor than a true marble floor. We were able to line the stairs with candlelight which looked gorgeous. The chiavari chairs unfortunately aren't included but they are absolutely worth it and will make your room look amazing! We had a representative from the FI and one from the catering company that worked together to help us plan our event. On the night of our wedding, we had a bridal attendant that was amazing! She was there for everything we needed the entire night! We loved that there can only be one wedding per night so everyone was focused on our event and not multitasking with other weddings. They validate parking for $7 per car which is amazing considering it's Philly. Trolleys will drop your guests off at the front steps which makes for an epic entrance! The bathrooms are pretty ugly since they aren't a fancy venue but you can do things on your own to give them a personal touch. There are soooooo many amazing photo opportunities throughout the FI and they give the bride/groom and photographer full access. Lots of options as far as where you put your bars, your food stations, photo booth, etc. The food is all made from scratch from the Frog Commissary. We had a few bumps in the road during our two year planning process but overall everything was great; our wedding day was everything we dreamed of and so much more! The Franklin Institute is an amazingly unique venue that you and your guests will rave about. Thank you to Gina, Beth and everyone else that helped make our wedding reception the most special, amazing night of our lives. We will never forget it!!!

The museum itself is always a great experience, but parking is way too expensive and better signs are needed for those not use to the city.

A great place for the whole family. Definitely check their calendar to see what events are coming up. Educators can get a discount and sometimes are able to get in for free. It can get crowded at times and field trips/camp groups mean that there are no real "off season" times but this is not surprising for a museum of this size and magnitude. There is a cafeteria if you plan to eat on site. I would definitely plan to spend a full day as there is a lot to do. They have different demonstrations and shows, which can be fun and really engaging for kids but these can also get full very quickly so definitely check the schedule and plan ahead. Overall, would highly recommend for a fun and educational experience.

Interesting place. It was nice and clean, hand sanitizers were everywhere. Took my kids here for a birthday. The electricity area was fun for them. They liked going inside of the heart. The Sir Issac’s Loft was their favorite area. It was interactive. There were live science shows which were cool. We got to see a dissection of a cow’s eye, too.

Awesome place to visit! I especially loved the planetarium...definitely take the kids too theyll love it!

  • 4/5 Nicole V. 2 years ago on Google
Super friendly staff, clean environment, price a bit high in my opinion because the most exciting thing is the planetarium, some events were closed due to COVID. I was disappointed because I thought there was the Marvel exhibit but they told me that was 2 years ago. It is a beautiful place to learn, mostly for children, but I do think you need more entertainment to learn.

I'm in a program called science in the city it's apart of PACT (grades 6-8th)and it's a pretty cool program. I don't know much about the other programs but the signs in the city program is about architecture and finding ways to improve the city. PS when you're in high school you can become a explainer ( a counselor)

Absolute must see if you're in Philadelphia! So many interactions for both kids and adults alike. So much to learn but done in a fun and engaging way. The area around Franklin Institute is also very walkable and can provide entertainment before or after visiting.

Limited access due to covid but good screening and cleaning regularly. My nephew had a blast as usual. Should decrease the price to the availability of exhibits.
