McNally’s Tavern Chestnut Hill located at 8634 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19118 is a world class Tavern/Pub/Restaurant! Family owned and run since its inception in the 20’s, this place has some really great food offerings. Their sandwich the “Schmitter” is a cheesesteak/grilled salami/sauce combination that is tremendous. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. The food is stellar from the sandwiches to their desserts which are homemade. Try their Chocolate cake as it’s pretty unbeatable.

One star is overshooting. Had horrible interaction from the owner who displayed awful behavior towards our guests who traveled up to 2 hours to be with us. We moved our party of 12 down the street to Adelina’s where we spent hundred’s of dollars and had great service from our bartender Brody.

I’ve been hearing about the legendary Schmitter for over a year. Tried to go months ago but they were closed on a Tuesday. The day finally came! If you’re going for the Schmitter (which you should be) order the long roll version. It’s just better. Yes it’s over $18. Yes you may not be able to finish. Topped it off with a nice IPA. Love the old school feel of this place, too.

First time here, had to try the schmitter. And it did not disappoint. Also got a slice of cake and it might have been the best cake I've ever had!

In town for work and always looking for amazing local spots to eat so a co worker said this was a must try spot. Welp there it is the famous “Schmitter” and OMG this probably is thee best sandwich I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating EVER. If you don’t know the history on this sandwich you should google it. Pretty cool little story. Cool local spot and our server Liz was the best. Definitely on my list to come back to when I’m in Philly.

A colleague from Philly recommended this restaurant to us during a business trip. When we arrived, I looked at the menu and tried to find something semi-healthy to order. But, our colleague said you have to get “The Schmitter”, because that’s what this place is known for. Honestly, if I had not been told that, I would have never ever ordered that item, because it didn’t sound appetizing to me. However, I always say, “when in Rome…”, so I decided to go for it. I’m not kidding you when I say it was delicious. Totally not my style of food, because it’s dripping with cheese and sauce, fat and carbs, but oh my gosh, it was fabulous! I only wish I could have tried it on a cold snowy day instead of in the midst of the summer swelter, because it seems like a perfect comfort style pub food sandwich when coming in from a blustery day. If I ever have to come here in the winter, I definitely want to eat here again!

The service here was great. The food was okay. We paid $20 for a cheesesteak that was "subpart." It's just hard for me to justify paying $20 for an average-taste sandwich like what I had. I also wish they had French fries but that's okay. I can understand why. They don't have a fryer on site. Ultimately, the environment and the service was excellent but the food was average at best.

Had a wonderful lunch at McNally's! It was my first time here, but it has a lot of charm and character, and so I can see why this place has so many regulars. Delicious sandwiches, and a great beer selection! I would absolutely suggest for anyone looking for a no-thrills restaurant.

I looked up a random internet list of "Traditional Philly Foods" and this popped up as the home of the Schmitter. That looked like a delicious mess so I found my way here. The place was packed with locals and regulars, and people were coming in for takeout as well. And for good reason! I got a spot at the bar by myself and ordered one, it did not disappoint. They also have a great house lager brewed by Lancaster that topped off the meal perfectly. Worth a trip.

If you have never had a shot of Bailey's Irish cream poured onto a piece of Guinness cake, you have never had a five star dessert. Believe it or not, McNally's has a five-star dessert. I love this place, I take my children there, it's so family-oriented. Craig at the bar is awesome, Ann is a walking encyclopedia, and Liz is one of the best...

Stumbled upon this place and was really impressed! They serve no frills comfort food and they’re great at it. They also pour a great Guinness. Really felt welcomed by all the staff.

This is such an amazing family establishment and exactly the type of place I want to frequent. We walked in and were admiring a photo on the wall when the server seating us said "that's my grandfather." She was one of the owners, and such a lovely person. Very cool moment. Everyone working there was great--chatted with us for awhile, gave our visiting friend from Texas a free t-shirt. Beer's in imperial pints! And the sandwiches are great. I'll be back.

We eat here a few times a year, so we’re not “regulars”. But on our last visit on a Wednesday, I felt like a real outsider at a club for locals. The new dining room was full, and there’s some visiting between tables and lingering after all drinks are finished. I felt more welcome in the smaller space before the expansion. That said, the food is very good.

What a place. Extra seating due to the recent expansion. Staff is friendly, Schmitter is outstanding. All the food is fresh and delicious. Save room for a slice of cake. You'll be glad you did!

Their schmitter sandwich is really f*ing good. But their service left something to be desired and the space is v cramped.

We usually love McNally's- fantastic service, good beer at a reasonable price and tasty food. We went most recently for their lobster roll special that I saw advertised on Instagram (price was not advertised- I should have known then). The service was phenomenal (as always) and the food delicious although I did notice a tomato taking up about a third of my lobster roll, which should have really been lobster meat instead. I wasn't too bothered by it until I got the bill and I have to say I was blown away by the price. $35 dollars for a lobster roll, a side of potato chips, potato salad and a small coleslaw when a tomato took about a third of the roll is just too steep. I don't usually balk at a check but this one got me to double take. It was my fault for not asking how much the rolls were from the start but there's no way I thought they would be over $30. Disappointed.

I came back to McNallys for the first time in 34 years. Used to go here in my teens and 20s. It hasn’t changed! The BEST cheesesteaks. The BEST (family run and friendly) service. Impeccably clean and just the most incredible tavern. Love it!!!

The food especially “The Scmitter” was excellent!!! Couldn’t resist this!!! Ya gotta try it!! What a contribution to a historical sandwich and Chestnuthill brand..good experience it was juicy and couldn’t believe it was that good all fresh sliced beef, with extra cheese. Fried onions, tomatoes, grilled salami and there signature Schmitte rSauces” on. Flash broiled Kaiser Roll…

I've been coming to McNally's since 1975. When I walk in the door, I feel like I'm home. Friendly staff, great food ( although they are known for the Schmitter, my personal favorite is an Italian grinder, washed down with a Guinness). I don't live in Philly, but when in town, I'm going to McNally's!

McNally’s is our family’s favorite and now with the recent opening of the adjoining dining room there’s even more to love! Quality of food is still exceptional, service is warm and personal and now there’s larger tables for family and friends to gather at and enjoy. So inviting with the beautiful architecture, lovely window and always cloth tablecloths. If you’re in the area - or even if you’re not - don’t miss McNally’s. From soups to cakes to rotating specials to the regular menu there are no bad choices to be made here along with a full bar too!

Reliable, friendly service as always. The Schmitter is the same great sandwich I first tried almost 40 years ago. Still family owned and operated. Truly a Chestnut Hill institution.

It was a nice small location. The food was okay. I tried this sandwich called the schmitter and it wasn't that bad. The coleslaw and chili were great and I had a carrot cake for dessert.

The Chocolate cake and carrot cake are my favorite minus the icings (too sweet) outside of that I haven't had the food.

Love this place. Only wish they had made the new addition more like the old. Used to have two bathrooms, now only one. Surprised building codes allowed this since they added @ 30 plus seats

The Schmitter sandwich is absolutely the best sandwich in Philly. The service, particularly by Ellen is above and beyond and was outstanding, and the alcoholic drinks top off the wonderful historic Irish bar atmosphere.

Food is really good. My gripe is, they have a limit on the number of slices of cake you can buy which is inconvenient- celebrating a birthday when you can only buy 2 slices! To try to get enough cake for my husband’s birthday (because this happens to be his favorite cake), I went back the day after I purchased two slices and was advised that they do not sell cake on Sundays when there is an event going on 🤷🏻‍♀️. I won’t be quick to return and spend my money here
