This was an absolutely terrible experience, but I'll give the extra star for how nice their staff was once you actually get seen. I should have learned my lesson when I went to their Eye ER and waited 6 hours. I came in with blood in my stool sobbing in excruciating pain around 10 PM. I did not leave until 6:15 AM the next morning. Yes, you read that right. They told me around 11 PM that I would be seen to collect a urine sample, so I did not go to the bathroom thinking they would collect it soon after they told me that. Boy, was I wrong. This wait time was absolutely ridiculous. It was around 4:00 AM where the pain was so unbearable that I was already sobbing to a nurse for me to be seen. She was nice enough to help me get past the waiting room at least, but this was the start of another wait. The doctor came in and said he will be back with my results to discharge me and did not come back until 6:00 AM. I will say that the doctor that I had was extremely kind - one of the best bedside manners I have seen in quite some time. However, I was in so much pain while waiting for him to come back and did not sleep at all on top of that. If you are reading this, I really do not want you to go through what I went through. Please go somewhere else if you can and save yourself the trouble.

By far the worst hospital I’ve been to. Let’s start easy: every area of the hospital is filthy. Between patient trash, dirt, and literal blood on the ground, this place is unsafe. Beyond that, the staff doesn’t act compassionate or knowledgeable. They won’t answer any question, they’ll just ask you to wait — but not tell you what you’re waiting for. They also MIGHT forget about you entirely, like they did with my gf today. 4 hours and counting of waiting and asking for updates, yet we are still waiting here. We came in to treat a uti, this should’ve taken an hour or two

Inhumaine Staff. Worst Experience Ever. Zero Stars if possible. The worst Rude dismissive doctors for Female Pain. I see a pattern in reviews and shouldve checked before i went. I came in with severe pain and symptoms related to Mirena IUD they held me for 12 hours 3am-3pm were extremely dismissive of my concerns and refused to remove it because it looked placed okay in imaging. Although hormonally it has made life unbearable. I cannot eat I cannot sleep and I've been bleeding non-stop for 6 months which is honestly terrifying and explained this thoroughly to my doctors nurses and multiple staff members that my quality of life has been destroyed. After 12 hrs was told NO and sent away after begging and crying for them to please remove it. Expressing i did not feel safe or comfortable with it in me any longer. After 12 hours of holding me I was refused and asked/threatened by police presense to leave. I didn't feel safe or listened to. And am leaving with more trauma than I arrived. By the time I left they had so thoroughly dehydrated me that I vomited multiple times while being driven back home since they refused my calls for water or anything else. And now Im home no better, in fact So much worse Still have the Pain the Mirena and NOW I can't even hold water down and shaking violently. Im actually terrified now. Like I'm not okay? What am I supposed to do now? How is that allowed? Or okay? Or humaine even?

Excellent care. This ER has several excellent and outstanding doctors who genuinely care for their patients and do as much as they are able for them. Watching the staff interact in such a concerned manner regarding their patients put me at ease that I had chosen the correct ER to have my immediate medical needs addressed (severe and debilitating abdominal pain). The wait was a bit long for some of the testing but that's how it can be especially when more emergent cases come in. CT staff and nuclear medicine staff all outstanding. Every nurse I had during my stay was attentive, knowledgeable, caring. The staff works very hard to ensure patient comfort and care- I overheard some nonspecific details of other patients and the professionalism of the Jefferson ER staff is really unmatched. The two attending physicians I spoke with genuinely listened to me and were able to set me on the correct path towards a proper diagnosis after almost 2 years of pain and almost a month of agony and several failed doctors visits. I can't thank Jefferson staff enough- from intake to the phlebotomist. I wish I remembered more names of the staff but it was all a bit of a blur unfortunately. The one resident didn't seem very knowledgeable about quite a few things so minus one star for that but we all have to learn sometime and that's why they have exceptional attending physicians.

Had a problem with the African American security guard. Unfortunately I didn’t catch his name tag (he works on late afternoon to night shift). ER was packed and all visitors were asked to wait outside. As I pushed the exit door, I accidentally bumped hard into this security guy and he yelled at me, causing disruption. His job is supposed to make the visitors feel safe, but yet he made me feel threatened! Not to mention that I’ve been there waiting for more than 8 hours, he needs to understand our frustration as well! I wasn’t allowed to go back inside even though I told him that I’m translating for my husband. He pointed his finger at me and said “hey you! Go back there!” as if I’m his slave. He is very incompetent with his job and need to learn to watch his tone, cause next time, someone else might not as tolerant as me.

I have been to many countries, but this place is of the lowest rank of an underdeveloped country. This is a horrible place to be if you need help. It’s filthy and people are mean. The guards were angry and with an attitude. So are the nurses. One of them, Nurse Shaina I believe, fake eyelashes, very unpleasant and was rolling the eyes to my kind request on the wait times. I can’t believe she even wrote it on the notes that I had asked for the wait times. Very unprofessional and not so bright. If you are working with people who need help you have to be prepared and compassionate. There’s 0 compassion in this place. Wait time horrible and they had just a few patients. Just don’t come here. They totally deserve to be closed.

This is the worst hospital in Philadelphia. The nurses and doctors have a nasty attitude and they move with no sense of urgency or care when the patient is in pain. They put the patients on the back burner and does not care for the patients needs whatsoever. I was transferred from Einstein Medical Center To Jefferson and when I got to Jefferson 3 different ENT Doctors said there was nothing they could do after I was approved for the transfer by one of Jefferson’s doctors. I cried in pain for 45 minutes before a nurse or a doctor even checked on me. They’ve been giving me medication all morning and haven’t given me anything to eat. It is currently 3:24pm and I haven’t had one meal but over 5 different pills. The pills don’t seem to be working I’m assuming it’s because I’m taking them on an empty stomach. If you have a choice, DO NOT COME HERE. THEY DO NOT I REPEAT THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE PATIENTS. YOU ARE HELPLESS ONCE YOU STEP THROUGH JEFFERSONS DOORS.

Smallest waiting room I've ever seen for a hospital. Entire department smelt like urine. Floor was sticky with urine, mud or poo. Staff where telling everyone 12 hour wait. When nurses came out to call people in they were already in the back being treated. Could hear the triage nurse telling the other that "maybe if we had someone paying attention you would keep looking for the wrong patients." Even the staff know this place is trash. Waiting room was full of pan handlers and druggie trying to get a fix. People were coming in via ambulance and being put in waiting.

Here with my husband waiting for 4 hours and STILL waiting. In the 4 hours that we've been here they've literally called 3 people to see the doctor. Waiting room is small and overcrowded. Woman was bent over in pain and her husband kept telling staff that she was in excruciating pain but the staff were very uncaring. They ended up leaving. As about 5 other people left because the wait was entirely too long. My husband and I are leaving now. I would give ZERO stars if I could. NEVER AGAIN!!!

We came into the ER around 5:00 p.m. on a Tuesday. Both waiting-room bathrooms had no soap. It is now after midnight, seven hours later, and we are still waiting to be called back, which is what it is, but both bathrooms still have no soap... 😷

Excellent hospital, great staff, the doctors and nurses here are just the best, even the custodial staff make you feel like they have your best interest in mind. I may not be the best person, but I do know that Jefferson took care of me. Thank you very much for everything.

Came here with dizziness, fever and a blackout yet I'm still physically sitting here in this lobby at 12:46AM after getting here a 7pm waiting to get an IV with a stent in my arm for over 2 hours. I literally had 3 people beg me for food at the vending machine. What is going on in this place? I will never come to this hospital again for an emergency.

do not go to this emergency room. it is over crowded, disgusting and not managed well. i waited 2+ hours - unable to have a wheelchair (i was trying to be seen for spinal issues) they did not enforce mask wearing in the waiting room. a lot of junkies / homeless people were just sleeping in there with all their belongings taking up chairs. the nurse i was seen by was very sweet but said they were unable to treat my spinal issues, so i ubered to penn and am waiting to have an MRI and treatment.

It was the worst experience of my life the floors were nasty the front staff couldn't wait to get off of her shift so her desk manner was the worst one nurse came from the back loud and carrying on with jokes with security security looked like they was just hanging out chillen when you walk in there alone it feels like if you didn't have covid you sure got it when u get out the emergency department you got staff in the front on they phones and it's the worst alcohol pads on the floor and let me not forget the janitor popping jokes with security I barely could sit down due to the fact it just felt unsanitary they do not care how they use to to from my take of things I tried to stay as long as I could but I just couldn't my anxiety would not let me I think Jefferson need better staff I mean it use to be number one I for one am very disappointed as to how this hospital went down the drain with cleanliness and the staff don't care. If I could give them no star and post I would.

Horrible staff. Waited two hours, left my room and was told that I’d been discharged. Requested a wheelchair prior to being put in a room and was refused and instead told that I didn’t have that far to walk. Ended up leaving and going to HUP. I have a lot of respect for the medical profession and never mean to come off disrespectful to staff, there is no reason why I was treated the way that I was. If you can get to another hospital, please do so. I’d never suggest going to this place even if it is for an emergency.

After spending 7 hours at this er recently, I’m very impressed at the level of care they provide. Please keep in mind there is a significant wait, mainly due to the fact at least of their resources are tied to treating all the homeless and crazies that wander in. Keeping that in mind, expect to be dealing with them in the waiting area. They stink, have open sores, and are just generally crazy. If you can’t deal with this, you are better off going to a jersey or suburban hospital. The nurses and techs are great, just treat them with respect and they will treat you just fine. A “yes ma’am” goes a long way.

Amazing environment where you can breathe the medical research & universitary SPIRIT among this streets in the Historic Independence neighborhood of Philadelphia. It was easy to see, in situ, these medical doctors crossing the streets in all directions to go to another building. They also used to dress their característic white medical gown and the MASK!!! That was happening in the year 2000! More than 20 years have passed since “that”. The Independence and liberty bell park is illuminated at night by fireflies flying everywhere!!!

This emergency room was awesome! Jefferson is one of the best hospitals in Philly in my book. When I arrived the check-in nurse was a-little brusque (but she wasn’t mean or anything, she seemed tired... it was 2:30am). The intake nurse was super kind and funny! The main doctor had awesome bedside manner. Overall they moved very quickly. I was seen within 1 hour. Everyone waiting ahead of me was also cleared out in the short time I waited. Under a 1 hour wait at an emergency room is pretty fast! I feel like my emergency needs were very well met. Lastly, the hospital was relatively clean, the bathrooms could use a-little upgrade (but honestly.... it was fine for the most part). Overall thumbs up from me - thank you Jefferson.

Worse hospital visit ever. Was admitted for a broken jaw and it took 5 days for it to finally be wired shut. Staff more or less treated me as a burden than a patient in need. They fawned over my roommates while ignore me. Couldn't get pain medication timely and it took 1/2 hour or more to be seen by the nurses.....matter of fact a female doctor had the audacity to rate berate my pain levels for me after she grew tired of me calling her Ms. She then called me honey and insisted I call her doctor to which I instructed she call me Mr Bullard and not honey. Overall Staff was rude and trying me like a criminal. No one should have to undergo the treatment I suffered.

I've been waiting for over 4 hours and I'm here from a car accident. If you're experiencing any kind of pain or emergency, do not come to this emergency because they're staff will have you waiting as if it's no big deal. I am in pain and have two employees are me the exact same questions.

This hospital is bizarrely understaffed in addition to having bizarrely undertrained police who act out strangely in aggressive manners against homeless persons with full on mental health issues as if making full stop tactical “moves” in some sort of mickey mouse sidegigs. There was no one in the ER waiting and it still took seven hours to be seen evaluated and prescribed a basic antibiotic for a basic diagnosis all the while the basic ill-assigned police and security were aggressively handling and dispersing homeless people as if they were not people as well in a highly childish “roided out” manner removing them frequently from the emergency room with full sus tilt as if they were in a mickey mouse training facility. I would highly avoid this understaffed and unprofessional emergency room and instead go to Upenn. 🤙🏼 The amount of Mickey Mouses you will encounter both in guards, weirdo police officers and understaffed medical persona is of shameful status. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I had a virtual visit with Dr. Foster and she was 30 minutes late and got smart about it. She's an intelligent doctor, but she has a very nasty disposition. I'm switching PCP's on Wednesday.

I was at the ER and the staff was very rude. They let me walk my own without anyone holding me and the ambulance drive so shaky that makes me vomit twice. Also, when I arrive the ER, I don’t think they were taking me seriously which they were giggling instead of sending me to the room immediately. The doctor and the nurse are nice but the staff need more improvement.

  • 2/5 Nicholas F. 1 year ago on Google
The staff is really good and friendly, from the security guards to the nurses, but the Admin, organization, and staffing levels make for an abysmal standard of care. I am in constant debilitating back and nerve pain due to compressed disks and was admitted to the ER on Monday Morning to get admitted for a discectomy surgery. Once I was fully admitted and placed in a gurny I was told a room was being made ready for me and I'd be moved to it shortly.. I have now been in the ER for nearly 48 hours, so either I'm going be receiving the grandest room they have ever put someone in or someone here being less than honest. If you can, take the extra time and drive to Doylestown Hospital. You'll receive much more efficient and immediate care.

I arrived at 6:15pm - 6:35pm and was taken to the back within an hour. After getting an Xray around 8 830pm I waited calmly but I hear all these privileged nurses just lie to patients all repeating the same stuff that they checking their labs but all the patients are sayin that they never took any test or lab work. A nurse comes and tells me that she will be right back she is getting my Xrays. It is now 12:21am and I'm just now getting an answer and spoken too like I'm interrupting them. Worst hospital ER experience and this place need to be shut down and fire all the staff. You can not work in this field if you dont have any people skills. I rate this place a poophole

We just delivered our baby girl here and im sp impressed with the whole culture of the labor and delivery unit. So many times they presented us with facts and let is choose what was best for us as a family. Even though i think hospitals are all owned by “big pharma” we realized that most of the staff we met generally wanted to help us. However, the admissions desk at the ER is an absolute NIGHTMARE and the staff are incredibly rude. No love, brotherly or otherwise.

I was brought to the Jefferson ER with an open wound and wasn’t sure how serious it was. All the doctors, nurses, and medical professionals there were so sweet. They talked me through everything and kept me laughing through a traumatic experience. They tried to make me as comfortable as possible and got me in and out pretty quickly. Thank you to everyone at Jefferson who helped me through my scary experience, you’re greatly appreciated!

645p We got to the ER and the waiting room was full. There was a woman there with her daughter, said she has been there since noon. Another man said he's been there since 3p. Every nurse was being dismissive. Absolutely no help when asked a question. It is now 11p and still nothing. I don't recommend this hospital at all

EXTREMELY OVERCROWDED, I arrived in the ER at 11:30 Am yesterday. It is now 9:30 am the next day and I am admitted, however still waiting to be moved upstairs to a room. The staff are great, they are just bombarded and can only work with what they have. My pain is being tended to as well as my condition. The only issue is waiting for a room to open up.

recently had hip revision surgery at Jefferson Hospital. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in good hands. Everyone was pleasant and tried their best to put me at ease. I want to give a special thank you to the following people in the operating room: Ryan Fletcher, Pat, Allison and John. Your caring and calming manner meant a lot to me. In the PACU, Denise was top notch and extremely attentive. My nurses, Madison and Meghan, gave me the very best care. And, saving the best for last, Dr. Nazarian, who did my first hip replacement. Seeing that I was still having problems, tried his best to relieve my pain, only using revision surgery as a last resort. I'm still in the early stages of recovery, but I'm hoping for the best. Thank you to everyone who did their very best during the most trying of days! I delivered my baby here. The staff was very friendly from labor and delivery to maternity. They took great care of my baby and me. They also kept me well informed of my results, care, and follow up procedures.

If I could give zero stars I would. You need to have people who can talk to people. I do get that every one comes there homeless and all. But there are some people who sat in pain like myself for hours and the lady got smart with aunt. Very dirty

Literally hate this Hospital, this last was the LAST straw. There was no compassion given to me by my doctor for my stomach pain, just useless questions that turned into another, inadequate diagnosis. I went into the hospital knowing I had severe menstrual cramps, had to wait in the waiting for 2 hours in agonizing pain. Then, when they took me back to the room I had to wait for my doctor for another hour. As I was walking around looking for my doctor i had accidentally threw up in the hallway. At this point I’m a bit delusional; haven’t eaten, dehydrated, and still in EMENCE pain. When one of the nurses saw me, she walked me back to my room and “suggested” I act like an adult and sit patiently while wait for my doctor instead of throwing up all I’ve the hospital..hmm okay.. So my doctor finically arrived he told me he wants to me get a CAT scan and ultra sound since there was blood in my urine..”Sir, I’m currently on my period” “Well...we just want to be sure you don’t have any kidney stones or a bladder infection”. Like huhhhh??? After taking the pain medication I finally felt like a better me. I wasn't shaking, no cold sweats..I was Finally able to RELAAAAX. Every 20 mins they’d have someone barge the door open and abruptly turn on the light and speak to me as if I’m awake and not trying to allow my body to fix itself while I’m sleep. Granted, I did have two hands on nurses that were FABULOUS, but the memory of them faded when I had An interaction with a couple bitter nurses. In Titilayo I was there for 6hours, and only 1 1/2 of those hours I was being cared for. I will Never go to a hospital that makes me feel like a statistic or a check. The more tests the more money they get and I promise they’re not even work it. If I could boycott, I would. 🤞🏾

OMG this was the worst experience inside this emergency room. I came from work to the emergency room after 1pm. After 1hr got an MRI 6 hours later they said they was cleaning the room and I'll be called 730pm I ended up walking out.. never was called.. by then the crack heads was starting to come in causing scenes.. the staff is so talkative to each other.. a woman was having a seizure I wasn't feeling that good but made sure I got the staff attention... An elderly man came in said his sugar was low.. staff asked him questions and said " u.ll be called shortly" and pushed him out the way of people in the wheel chair and had his back turned so if something was to happen to him.. they wouldnt even be able to see!! .... Everything about that hospital was TERRIBLE!

They’re wonderful. I’ve never had a long wait when I’ve had to go for myself or with a loved one. The staff goes out of their way to get you seen and cared for ASAP. And I can’t tell you how much this staff makes you feel secure and comfortable.’The doctors are also very special and unique and take a ton of careful care for their patients. It’s a very special place for an ER and for a hospital. Can’t say enough good.

Very bad place, made us sit in 40° temperatures for more than 5 hours. Do NOT come to this place for medical emergency, you are better off driving 1 hour plus to a different hospital

This place needs to be shut down!! There was so many HIPAA violations!! & the way these so called medical professionals treat people is horrible!!! I never in my life experienced such horrible bedside manner, disrespect in my life until I came here. Let’s start with me having to wait 10+ hours in the waiting room with a high fever, chills, etc. & the medical staff completely forgetting about me until I had to literally go up to a random staff member & ask if I can at least get a room? Or tell me the status because if it was too much longer of a wait I’ll go to an urgent care the next day (I had strept throat) the nurse proceeds to tell me they ordered labs for me, which I knew & I kindly told him the med tech poked me 7times and couldn’t get the IV in and I didn’t want to get poked anymore. He poked me so many times that I literally got nauseous, threw up and he still proceeded to poke until a nurse came and stopped him. Nonetheless, there was blood all over the floor from a previous patient and you can tell nothing was cleaned.. On to the next part of this horrible hospital.. they finally placed me in a hallway in a recliner chair and told me to wait.. so I stood and became nauseous again and ended up throwing up and urinating on myself soiling my clothes ‘ I literally shouted for help while the nurses laughed and walked right pass me and just told me “the bathrooms over there” instead of ASSISTING me and helping me out. Bottom line is I was stuck in a gown in the hallway barely conscious and exposed . BEWARE OF THIS HOSPITAL

Waited in the ER lobby for 6+ hours without ever being seen. They asked my partner for personal information in the public lobby. There was a fist fight in the lobby. The security guys let a man smoke a vape in the lobby. Terrible experience, joke of a hospital
