One has to understand that the services are much broader than the art studios, for starters. And the art program is second to none. There is nothing else comparable, even if another thing were self pay. Things I’m frustrated about include the new web design after the name change from PSA. Everyone still calls it PSA anyway, but regardless the new website literally provides no helpful information because it is far too vague. And this is coming from someone enrolled in a program. As far as the art studios go, each has its own vibe, as one would expect. Don’t kid yourself, it’s not just art and access to many materials and learning opportunities. Twice a day the staff hands out a worksheet, usually taken from a quite dated workbook, and the participants have to fill it out or go over with staff. The problem with this is that so many times the topic is not relevant to what the person is experiencing right then (though staff is pretty good with adapting) or, what’s far worse, is that the information is dated. It is NOT evidence based because the workbook is so old that the most current research in mental health treatment is not considered. So participants are often inundated with treatment protocol that can actually be harmful — and no one in the staff feels empowered enough to address it with the higher ups. Finally, the topics are repeated way too often, in literally the exact same worksheets. All told though, I’ve gained a lot from the program and I hope to continue doing so. I just wish this one aspect of the lack of evidence based treatment would change even just a little. Do remember, of course, it’s not a compleeeeeeeeete lack, but for me, enough of one.

Art Awakenings is a place where anyone can go to enjoy true art. The various mediums and colors bring forth life to the gallery. Art coordinator D.W. creates a flawless display by paying close attention to detail and cares about the display and the audience who comes to view the art. The staff is caring and transparent offering assistance to those who may have any questions. The atmosphere is one to experience.

This place is always fun to come to on the 1st Fridays. The artists are always freindly and prices on their work are appropiate and affordable and actually probably far less then they are worth. It is very cool to see them in their natural habitat of where they create their work. An always stop on 1st Friday.

This place was so nice and if there are openings for this location I would really love to be be re enrolled. I have asked my case manager Jon Richtar via email to get me back into this program as well as called the main line. My insurance is Mercy Care Rbha. There is an array of things to do and I would honestly love to go back here as well as get counseling from here.

I strongly suggest you do not use this clinic for your mental health needs. I was denied my mental health meds. This clinic does not care about its patients.

some of the therapists are nice, and the concept is nice. this place provides "group therapy" and donated art supplies to mentally ill people and allows the clients to place their art for sale under certain conditions. "Art Heals" or whatever . I did not have a good experience with several of the therapists and behavioral health techs who work here. it seems like most are trying their best, but its difficult to overcome the patronizing and degradation that comes from all staff who serve Seriously Mentally Ill (smi) populations. the issue exists beyond this clinic and this one happens to be one of the best, hence the 3 stars. no four or 5 star SMI clinic exists. when there are pot luck dinners, the staff makes sure to let the clients know that they are not allowed to bring any food they made themselves, and that the food must be purchased when lunch is served, the staff makes sure to let the clients know that they are not allowed to apply their own condiments to their food. one staff member tossed a wrapped taco at me because I had the audacity to ask why some people got three while others got two. as a client, they ask me demeaning questions that supposedly help build a treatment plan, but in the several months that i received services, I didn't experience any correlation between the questions asked at intake and every few weeks, and the services I received. it doesn't feel good at all to be subjected to invasive personal questions every couple of weeks to deserve the luxury of used art supplies and "group therapy" . While its great that there is funding provided by the state to address Serious Mental Illness, clinics like this one operate under the paradigm that mentally ill people are a liability to society and should be contained to specific locations, such as this. heres to hoping that the crusty brushes, "group therapy", and the list of food banks they handed me will address the systemic issues that lead to mental illness , isolation, and suicide.
