Had the pozole and it was very good! The chips and salsa roja was great as well. Servers were very attentive and refilled my water as soon as it was low. Lots of seating and definitely a great place to grab a few drinks.

Enjoyed a relaxing evening at Chico Malo and had a great time. We enjoyed every facet of the meal from the Burrata Mole through to the Coconut Flan dessert. Every meal felt very intentionally crafted, packed full of flavor combination ls that pair excellently, and offer something new for the senses. Even at it’s busiest, service was good, friendly and outside seating was also comfortable.

I've been here countless times. Always a good vibe and the place looks amazing inside. The staff is always very helpful the times I've been here. The cocktails are hit and miss for me. No fault of the establishment It just depends on what you like. The Wild Thots cocktail is my favorite. I recently ordered the Duck Breast Al Pastor which essentially allows you to make your own tacos. It was very good and I'd definitely recommend. This is one of my favorite places down town so you should check it out

The service was a bit slow; the scallops came out 15 minutes after we had received the rest of the pictured items but everything tasted absolutely amazing. The carne asada was cooked perfectly. Very impressed with the plating as well! Highly recommend if you want to have a fun brunch because they have a DJ playing upbeat and lively Latin music!

This is my first time at Chico Malo and it was a great place. I ended up going around brunch time on the weekend so I ended up getting some steak and eggs that also came with some beans, guacamole and some really delicious salsa. The service was fast. The food was really flavorful I would definitely go back to try some other items on the menu. The place is really nice and they had an upbeat vibe with some of music going on. The servers were kind of friendly they even help me out with the menu. I would definitely give this a try if you haven't been here before.

Super great drinks but they are $$$$. Food was good. Great atmosphere. The staff was very courteous and professional. The bartenders could use a bit of customer service training. They are not as attentive when your waiting for a drink and they are socializing and chatting it up with dudes instead of doing their job. One girl bartender was right on the edge of being rude and we hadn't been there but a few minutes.

The French toast and Tomahawk steak were amazing!!. The presentation. The atmosphere. The vibe. They were everything!! Just as good as everything looked it tadted 100 timed better. DEFINITELY get extra cream and berries on the toast to enhance your meal. It was warmer than normal inside since it was 7 of us were were given the option to rat at the lounge area up front since there was no available seating. We chose outside as it was actually cooler there. There is also a bottomless mimosa option!!

Place was okay. Food is decent, not nasty, but ok. Atmosphere is really nice, no denying it. I did find a bug in my IPA and NO I didn’t say anything lol because I don’t like to complain...our waitress was really attentive and she was awesome. 3 stars for me!

The best guacamole in Phoenix. It was so tasty and creamy that I was instantly in love. The rest of the dishes we ordered were delicious. Great atmosphere with a diverse crowd of people. Perfect spot

We enjoyed our experience at Chico Malo. The food was extremely tasty! My husband and I both really enjoyed our main dishes! Kids menu was kind of bare but we made it work…simple and easy cuisine for the kiddos. Our little one and a half year old really loved the jams they were playing throughout the night (as seen, him dancing in the last pic). Lol. There are two reasons I am giving this one less star…first reason: is they did not have any kids high chairs so we had to put our son in a regular chair (it turned out to be okay but we constantly had to tell him to sit down so he wouldn’t fall back); second reason: my husband wanted to do one of the tequila flights but each one he asked about they were out of so he settled on just a tequila on the rocks. Regardless this was a very fun atmosphere…I think if they had the same music they were playing…going to happy hour would be a good time!!

I love this restaurant! We had a New Years Eve reservation, and they accommodated our request to sit next to each other. So we had a 4-top table for two people on a busy night like New Years. We can't say thank you enough. The food was outstanding! Our server took his time to explain the menu and make suggestions to enhance our experience. The cocktails were delicious and unique! We had a wonderful night, and I can't wait to return!

It was delicious food! My mom and niece enjoyed their desserts as well. We tried the blueberry muffin and it was delicious! It was so nice to know we didn’t have to worry as much about our food while on vacation, and that we were able to order it and not have to bring a lot of food with us. Such a beautiful experience!

I am forever a fan of Chico Malo. We're from Austin and were visiting Phoenix for the weekend. The photos of food sold us that Chico Malo was the one spot we had to try in the city while we had the chance. And so excited that we did. Hands down the number one thing that made this night was our waiter, Hector. He greeted each table asking what they were doing in town, making a connection, and then making recommendations depending on what you were after. He was the perfect balance of attentiveness/making sure guests got to enjoy their delicious food and drinks.

The breakfast brunch was great. We went at 8:45 am and everything was still hot. Our server was very friendly and took good care of us. The staff even asked us what we wanted to eat more for breakfast. They also explained to us the great menu so that we could also taste the different recipes that we haven't tried before. You're such amazing!

We celebrate our anniversary every year at a restaurant we had it first date at. This year being special (25th) I wanted to take my wife somewhere new. Possibly 25 years new? What brought us to Chico Malo was a tinga taco we sampled at a taco tasting event. Unfortunately we didn't see this taco on the menu. We ate there on a Monday night which was very busy for a Monday night I thought. The service was great. We waited a bit for it food but the waiter came by often to check on us. The menu was small which I believe is better. I thought this was going to be a traditional taqueria which I don't think it was. I was disappointed only because I'm not used to ordering fancy foods. But, but, but the food was awesome. Two reasons I gave 4 it of 5 stars is because the experience was so new. The other reason is there is a dog poop area directly in front of the dining patio and we watched several deposits. If course Chico Malo isn't responsible for that.

Not COVID friendly. People are seated next to each other in booths, with a short glass divider that’s shoulder length.... If you’re going to put dividers, make them high enough where people’s heads are not above the glass.

Good service and a really cool atmosphere. I had the ceviche which was shrimp only with veggies and it was really good. In addition I had the duck which came on a sizzling plate and had a freaking drawer for tortillas. Food was good but expensive, for sure San Francisco prices in Phoenix! Nice staff and attentive which worked out well.

So I walked into this place thinking it was going to be another taco place, but was I wrong I ordered the cauliflower steak, the achiote brick chicken and a Chile relleno. The taste of the food was super delicious ,I felt transported to Guadalajara and reminded me of my kid yrs. Simply fabulous I even ended up asking my waitress where the head chef was from. She said he was from Gdl. Sir I tip my hat to you 😉. The only thing uh oh here it comes, the only thing I didn't I didn't agree with was the hibiscus lemonade but I'll see past that here are some pictures of what I ordered thank you for the excellent meal. Additional note the corn tortillas have a nice presentation but it was missing a, je ne sais quoi. The music, great decoration very nice lighting and seating comfortable the food doest take a while for it to be brought well worth the wait.

Saw this place on the news and immediately my wife and I decided we needed to try it. We were not disappointed! Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was brought out promptly and was amazing. My wife loves flan and I love churros so instead of splitting dessert like we do when we are full (and we were full) we each ordered dessert and neither one of us regretted that choice.

Went for a quick bite and to start the night with a cocktail. Reservation was made through open table, that was simple enough. Made it easy to walk right in. Parking of course is hectic because of the location especially when there is a concert going on... street were blocked off but over all glad I went to check it out. The Chico Verde was delish along with the elote! By far my favorite.

This is a pretty good place to eat especially for the downtown night crowd. We came in the afternoon for lunch the place was fairly busy. The food was good and service was excellent. My only complaint is the price of the alcoholic mixed drinks. Beer prices are average.

This place was a great surprise. We did a company outing here with 7 of us and had great seating arrangements with plenty of room. The service from Kody was exceptional, his recommendations were on point from drinks, appetizers & then the shared main courses were the perfect amount for all of us. Highly recommend!

Chico Malo is a really good restaurant in downtown Phoenix! The food was great, the ambiance and decor were very modern and sleek and the service was excellent! We ordered the ceviche, chips guacamole and salsa, the Birria and chicken enchiladas and all of it was so delicious! The blue corn chicken enchiladas with green sauce was the best enchiladas I’ve ever had! Their guacamole, green sauce and green salsa were soooo good! 🔥🔥🔥 We’ll definitely be back to try more of the menu!

Great margaritas, a little on the expensive side but you’re in downtown Phoenix. Got the pork tacos which were very tasty. Pretty cool environment and location adjacent next to the ice skating rink.

Busy, happy place in downtown Phoenix. Good modern Mexican food with a flare. Go at lunch for a trio of delicious tacos. The bar staff will be happy to describe the selection of beers from classic to local small batch. I'll be back for more tacos.

We found this place on OpenTable for our first night in Phoenix. It was a short walk from our hotel. The restaurant is not Tex-Mex, but the menu has more of a traditional Central American/South American flare. So, no enchiladas or burritos. That being said, the food was delicious. We loved the home made guacamole, the vegetable skewer sides, and all of our entrees. They don't have much of a choice of Margaritas, but the "house" Margarita was delicious. There is a charge for salsa with the chips. The service is a little on the slow side, but given the drinks and the salsa, we didn't mind.

High-end Mexican food served in a very upscale setting. We loved sitting out in the patio section and enjoyed the warm Phoenix sun. I tried the Chimichanga and it was great!! Fresh ingredients, filling portion size and the lime soda was refreshing too.

We go here every few weeks for a treat. Usually, it’s the breakfast menu we pick as it’s on all day. Yes, you have to wait but you know it’s freshly cooked and not greasy at all. We regularly pick 5 items of your choice with toast. On occasion, we have soup and a cake. The one thing we like about it you can be assured the food is good and cooked well.

Very busy lunch spot, within walking distance of lots of conference and tourist activities. My group was seated promptly during lunchtime, but did notice that once the restaurant started filling up we didn't have many check-ins with our waitress. The food ordered came out fresh, hot, and as requested. Everyone really enjoyed their meals in our party. My advice, if you're on a time crunch to get back to something quickly, just be sure to communicate that upfront so you can arrange to take care of your ticket during the meal, so when you wrap up you're not having to wait on the bill to head out.

Expensive for the amount of food. Hubby ordered the $26 carne asada. It wasn't alot of meat, was cooked perfectly but bland. He said the combination of the beans, meat, salsa, and guacamole made it flavorful. I had the posole and it was so flavorful and delicious! Probably the best posole I've ever had! Ordered a margarita, it was strong but not very tasty. They had no Patron ?

Pretty dissapointed in the carne asada. It was $26 for burnt and raw. It was supposed to be medium. The shrimp was very good as was the guacamole. The biggest complaint was that the menu was very limited (very little to choose from) and was not discriptive enough to help us know exactly what everything was. Unless you know Spanish, you will have to ask your server. This is not Mexican food...there are not tacos or burritos. So if that is what you're expecting you will be disappointed.

This was our 2nd time here. Amazing food and great service. Anna was very knowledgeable about the drinks and food and was an excellent server. They are adhering to social distancing, which is important. The chile relleno is special because they put calabacitas in the poblano chile. The ribeye steak was cooked to a medium rare perfection. This place has a great decor and a trendy vibe with a DJ playing the latest hits. Book it now and enjoy very flavorful Mexican food. I'm Chicano for what it's worth.

Checked in was told it was a 30 minute wait. Waited for over an hour and half. Pretty sure the hostess messed up. We kept seeing people getting seated that came after us with no prior reservations. So we end up ordering to go. They said about 15 mins. There went another 30 minutes. I finally seen our food sitting their getting cold, so we went up to ask if that was our food for sure. The hostess totally IGNORED US! Like we weren’t standing in front of her. No acknowledgement or anything... Finally, I think he was the manager ask if we needed something? We asked him if that was our food, he said yes that was our food but they didn’t have any bags to put it in. Which was fine. The manager ended up comping our food. It wasn’t a pleasant experience. Especially when you know how the hospitality industry works.

The location, music and indoor/outdoor atmosphere were super nice, I wasn’t a huge fan of the food honestly. Everything you had to pay for were completely separate items. (i.e. meals didn’t come with sides) which kind of sucked. Service was kind of sparse during our dinner given there was hardly anyone there.

Nice spot for great food. Relaxed setting and the staff was very pleasant. The guy who waited on us was super knowledgeable and responsive. He made me feel like a VIP. The ribey was cooked just as I asked, medium rare and charred on the outside, perfection. My wife ordered the slow roasted pork shank.. It shredded like butter, the tortillas were home made and were the best. . Nothing negative to report. 5 star all around.

I came here with my dad and fiance. We had the asada tacos with blue corn tortillas and the steak and shrimp. I also ordered elote to share and the chocolate dessert and churros. Everything was amazing and so was the service. I'll be back to try the duck tamales and a few other menu items :)

This is one of the cleanest, nicest bars I've been to since I moved here, the bartender (I cant remember his name unfortunately) was super attentive and made drinks with a lot of care. I had the mini ceviche and a Dos Equis, it was happy hour so I only spent 10 bucks for a quick lunch. I will definitely be back, I put in an application because I was so impressed! Wish me luck!!

We had a great time at Chico Malo. The service was great, our waitress was attentive and friendly, and the food and drinks were fantastic. I had the chili Colorado which came with house made tortillas and a cute serving ensemble with shredded beef that was rich and flavorful. The drinks were creative and the ambiance was fun.

Being from Southern Cali my standards for seafood and Mexican food is high! With that being said the food that was ordered was phenomenal! Karen's customer service was outstanding! Not only was she friendly, knowledgeable with the menu and drinks but she was very attentive. Highly advice trying out the mescal and asking for Karen to be your server! She'd definitely not your average Karen! Definitely coming back next time I get the chance!

Not your typical Mexican restaurant. Love it! I'm from Southern California visiting and I'm highly impressed with the food 🖤🤤

I would give them 4 stars if they have a better safety protocol. The fire alarm rang and the servers said that it was normal, and we can continue dining inside the restaurant. It scared me. Anyways, the cocktails were great! I tried Gran Jefe Margarita and No Hables, and both of them were delicious. Smooth and well mixed. Duck Breast Al Pastor was delicious. The duck came on an iron pan which guests can control how cook the duck was. However, the Birria Smoked Prime Rib was RARE when we ordered medium rare. It was bloody and hard to chew.

Really good food. The asada was very well seasoned and tender. The corn tortillas were a little burnt. I was torn on whether that made it better or not. The beans and rice were a nice surprise as well! Great flavor. I will certainly be back to try more!

We came here to have a quick drink and food before the rattlers game started 3pm. We started off with MANGO Y CHILE to drink. We also ordered one appetizer which was CEVICHE VERDE. Which was amazing!!! Never had it before. Definitely made me crave for more!! Definitely recommend. Then we shared the CHICHARRÓN DE RIBEYE. This was just a little too Crispy for our tasting but still good.

Upbeat atmosphere once you enter. The plating of the food is very nice but the flavors were missing a punch for me. The ducks plating was cool. My side dish took about 10 mins longer than my meal which was a bit disappointing. The duck was alright, it wasnt worth the price. Had to wait about 8 minutes for salsa Verde for the duck and it became cold unfortunately. The mash potato was delicious tho. We also got charged for salsa and the waitress never told us. I had to look at my receipt to actually check. When I asked about it she said it was her fault for not letting us know they charge 4$ for salsa. On the menu there is chips and salsa for 4$ and she forgot the chips. Unfortunate string of events.

Really good brunch! Highly recommend! We had Bottomless margaritas, trio appetizer, queso, ceviche, and I ordered the birria. My friend got The shrimp and grits and I tried a bite and it was so good! Huge jumbo shrimp! Our table also ordered the Verde enchiladas, stuffed poblano pepper, and elote. Everyone was so happy with the food. The only negative is that they said the bar got a little backed up so it took a bit longer for our drinks to come out after the first round. But we just ordered another round in the advance once we got ours. My friend absolutely loved their green mezcal cocktail drink. Also enjoyed the patio outside with misters! Our server was so nice and working her butt off! I would definitely go back!

Headed to Phoenix today for a show, and decided to hit Chico Malos for a late lunch before and best choice ever! First let's talk about customer service. Driving from Tucson we hit two different traffic jams, called and let them know we would be about 15 minutes late. The young lady that answered the phone was polite and assured us it would not be a problem. Turns out we were 38 minutes late but we were still greeted with a kind smile and empathy from the hostess. That was refreshing, made us feel right at ease even being late. Now right to the drinks, the Chico Verde is a house specialty and my wife, who is a lover of all libations said this was extraordinary! So of course I sampled it and wow it was good. Ordered the house guacamole traditionál, queso fondido and while both were tasty and filling the guac is without a doubt my absolute favorite. The flavors meet each other perfectly and the added pomegranate... It's rare to find an appetizer that qualifies as a delicious work of art, and it does! The queso fundido with chorizo is perfectly delivered hot enough to immediately place on the provided fresh tortillas but not so hot that it burns your mouth... Been there done that... Advice for the hungry... Ask for an additional order of tortillas immediately because they and the queso are a match made in heaven. Take a risk and dip it in the guac.... now we did decide to share an entree and the prime rib with the chorizo mashed made a fat man once again believe that there are food gods out there working in the shadows, keeping great food in style... Our server, Eric was attentive and his check back was on point. The entire staff was friendly, the restrooms immaculate, as we both went after the long ride and to wash our hands. Top to bottom Chico Malo is legit and we will be back and they are 5 stars even at lunch!!

Delish! This was fab. We had a dinner meeting here. Shrimp plate was great. A bit on the garlic side just so you are prepared for that. Two had the duck and said it was exceptional. The plate was beautiful as well.

We had a great time here! The good was so flavorful. Everyone was really satisfied with their entrees. The cocktails were yummy and cute. I had the charred cauliflower and we split the trio. Really beautiful restaurant and elevated experience. I would definitely come here again.

I saw a recommendation on this place and decided to give them a try. Honestly, I was expecting a little more flair. The carne asada tacos were good, the rice and black beans were excellent. We took the boys for lunch they enjoyed the food. The food is spicy…just a heads up.

Courtney was attentive and so kind. I had the Pork Verde, it was amazing! Deco is excellent. Reservations are highly recommended as walk-ins were denied when I arrived.
