It is a nice large Park with great pond, ducks, fish. Two baseball fields and playground. several picnic areas. lots of Green space. They have basketball and volleyball. only downer is a lot of homeless people and the bathrooms are better, it's a busy park and not a lot of maintainence good into it compared to done other parks that seem to have more rangers and such, things getting a bit run down, but they try. There is still a lot of homeless/displaced people that are often sleeping or wondering, seems like some living in a trailer in the parking lot but I'd recommend the park still. I would remind that dogs should be kept on leash, busy streets and not all dogs are friendly if yours runs up on it protect your dog be on leash

This is is a big park. Bathroom was a mess. Kids made trash of styrofoam cups while the party by the basket ball court could care less. The homeless there were more respectful of the park by being neat, tidy and had their own table and chairs. There is a pond for fishing and exciting bridges and waterfalls to walk past. The play equipment was amazing. Plenty of party pavilions with grills. They had the newest play equipment, very exciting.

Place looks like it used to 10 years ago. The grass is nice. Looks new and well maintained. The ponds are huge with ducks, geese, fish and some tadpoles. It has 2 playground for toddlers and bigger kids. Saw some guys fishing and families everywhere. Looks clean Many people were biking and skating around the park. We also saw a couple homeless people out in the far ends of the park camped out in groups. They kept to themselves but they had lots of carts full of stuff with them.

Park was okay. I would stay far away from the bath rooms. The homeless have taken them over. I went there to fish. 3 hours and I only caught garbage at the bottom. Still it was nice to cast my line out.

I like this park. Very fun to take the kids here. They enjoyed it and so did I. I like that it was well maintained and very clean. Lots for the kids to play on and lots of room to run around. Lake is cool, and people fish in it. Don't fall in looking at the ducks. That said, it's a rough neighborhood. Keep an eye on the kids. Don't let them play alone. Leave as soon as it gets dark. Good luck. Have fun! 👊🤘

This is my community park. I visit numerous times weekly to walk and relax. It is a beautiful well treed park with a large duck pond, fishing, a variety of water fowl, two baseball diamonds, walking trails, 4 verandas numerous picknick tables, a basket ball court and volleyball court. Yes, there are numerous homeless reclining on the grass and gathering in small groups. They are generally quiet, friendly, keep to themself. If this is a stressors it might not be comfortable for you. As for me, I love it all and the park workers keep it remarkably clean and deal with any concerns quickly. P.S. The restrooms do need some help. I wouldn't recomend them.

Nice park to take the kids. We enjoy taking our daughter to play on the playground, it has a variety of play equipment, all kept clean. Lots of open grass space for activities... open enough to fly a drone. Baseball field, basket ball courts. Large "lake" for fishing. Nice little open area to enjoy the "waterfalls". Overall nice park, not too heavy on the bum activity either. Its kept pretty clean and regularly monitored by park services for safety!!!

I used to love going to this park. 8 years ago it was awesome, clean, nice grass, clean water and water fall. It was beautiful and always a joy taking my younger siblings to this park. Coming here again 8 years later I was saddened by how much it has been neglected. The grass wasn't like how it used to be. There was bums camping out next to the park and canal. They brought their trash with them and had mattresses laying around the grass in plain sight. Trees were laying on their sides with roots sticking out of the ground. The ponds that weren't dried up were littered with trash and just had smelly bums hanging around the place. It was just sad to see.

Nice park, 3 acres, lots of ducks and geese, stocked pond for residential fishing. (Must have fishing license- see sign in picture for more details) Big playground, basketball court, tennis court, 2 baseball diamonds, lots of walkways, & open space. Started with a 4 ⭐, but had to change to 5 ⭐ due open view of skyline during sunrise.

It is a decent enormous Park with extraordinary lake, ducks, fish. Two baseball fields and jungle gym. a few excursion regions. loads of Green space. They have ball and volleyball. just killjoy is a great deal of vagrants and the washrooms are better, it's a bustling park and not much of maintainence great into it contrasted with done different parks that appear to have more officers and such, things getting a piece run down, yet they attempt. There is still a ton of destitute/dislodged individuals that are in many cases dozing or pondering, appears to be some living in a trailer in the parking garage however I'd suggest the recreation area still. I would remind that canines ought to be kept on rope, occupied roads and not all canines are cordial assuming yours runs up on it safeguard your canine be on chain.

Beautiful park but not family friendly. Large numbers of homeless with widespread drug use and some dealing. The city does its best policing problems and picking up large amounts of trash. Private security to be added soon.

It’s a sad state. Trash everywhere. The grass is dead and there’s homeless people harassing you everywhere you go. There’s dead fish all along the edges of the pond and inside of it. It used to be such a beautiful place but now there are so many homeless people it’s, just filled with garbage. It’s been a few years since I walked around and today broke my heart to see how bad it is. I used to bring my son there when he was a little boy but now, I would never bring a child. there out of fear for our safety.

As much as I appreciate the size of the park and the pond and the playground, it's very frustrating to see it so dirty and riddled with homeless people. It's tent city and people are often visibly drugged. It's not the unsheltered community I have an issue with, it's the fact that our city leadership can't see that there's a crisis and people need shelter and help with addiction recovery. Kids should not have to see that when they go play soccer or go to the park.

UPDATE: As of now the city has added security patrols at night and the park is significantly cleaner and safer. I noticed families, kids returning. - Park has been getting worse the last couple of years. Does not feel safe at least near the fishing pond. I no longer fish here due to safety concerns. Drug use and homeless are common.

It is a very nice place and we were there recently eating Pandas food there at one of the park picnic tables. In this time of Covid-19, it is nice to get outside and still have a little family outing kind of to ourselves. Unfortunately, parks have a reputation of having homeless people and gang graffiti in their parks. This one is no exception. So we kept a lookout for certain ones that might make us feel uncomfortable. It's sad that truly homeless ones have no place to go. Our main concern was about the Covid-19 factor and social distancing while eating there. It's we were a a-symptomatic and didn't know it, we would not want to endanger them, and vice versa. But why can't park officials get together and help these ones who don't get to go home like we do. Maybe block a bit off of this beautiful park for them to sleep or eat or pitch a little tent. Wouldn't it be better than just seeing them as the reject surplus population? Whatever drives people to this extreme isn't really the issue. But one never knows if open hearted kindness might bring them back. Just a thought.

This is a stop on the Salt River bike path for me. Plenty of room around the fish ponds both in the sun and shade. Bathroom facilities seem clean and well tended, although the large one at the south side near Dunlap seems to have a lot of homeless hanging out. Large playground with picnic tables and benches. Metal benches need some maintenance and/or replacement.

Great park with large lake and waterfall. Has a large group of transients that make there home under its shade trees during the day, but always have been respectful and never bothered me or my dogs. Abundant fishing and a loyal group of local fishermen. Has big playground with covers slides and jungle jim for the kids. Isn't kept as clean and manicured as Encanto, but few parks reach that high standard of grounds keeping, and Cortez Park is still a safe, clean, park to walk, read, fish, run, or meet new fronds.

It's a nice park, with many amenities: soccer fields, play areas, and what appeared to be a fishing pond... that was overflowing its banks when I was there. Please pay attention to the road construction (light rail 🚈 extension) on Dunlap Ave. and where pedestrians are walking as the "sidewalks" have been moved.

  • 4/5 Vera G. 2 years ago on Google
Very small lake, lots of foot traffic and your typical city "lake" set up. Playgrounds are large and looked newer.

Only 3 stars due to area not feeling safe. The pool has an awesome splash pad area for the little ones but pool was extremely full in comparison to other public pools. The area surrounding the entrance of the pool building smelled like urine. There are a lot of unhoused individuals in the area.

  • 4/5 Lyzbeth B. 1 year ago on Google
The park itself is nice. Plenty of space to do different activities. The pool is really nice as well. It's unfortunate that we have so much homelessness. It's sad. But the grass keeps them cool.

  • 2/5 Steve 1 year ago on Google
Google maps says that the lake is good for swimming but that is incorrect. There is a public pool that borders the park property, but swimming is not allowed in the park lake. Used to be a decent place but last couple years has seen a mass influx of vagrants and homeless camps. I have heard overdoses are common here.

I would just like to say this is a wonderful park. And as i did observe some homeless folks. Hey did I mention they were homeless, for all you folk who judge, that means they are without homes. They have no where to go. And if you think our community or our elected officials, or our churches, or housing authorities are going to place everyone in a safe and comfortable place, you are mistaken. They are not. Most of those ppl look down on the homeless and think they all are dirty, druggies and alcoholics! I myself was a law abiding citizen . I work hard to get where I was. Respected by the community and the company I worked for. Then my marriage broke, Covid hit, and I was out of a job then an apartment, I turned to Paz de Cristo for help. They told me they had nothing to offer me...nothing. Me a 60 yr. Old woman out on the street for the first time. I'm almost certain those ppl with all there belongings in there only available transport had to feel...well how DO YOU think they feel..you looking down on them, not even knowing them or the circumstances that put them there. I know there are homeless out there that are doing wrong, but there are also ppl like you who are doing wrong too.

  • 4/5 Alycia R. 5 months ago on Google
Chill place, however the homeless problem in the city has become so evident that signs of it are now everywhere, including at this park. It did not used to be this way. FYI, this is not to say anything negative about the homeless population itself, I have no room to talk as I have been in that situation myself. I know what it’s like to be in that position. I am not judging, I’m simply passing information that can’t be ignored.

  • 2/5 C A. 3 months ago on Google New
The hired security people try to intimidate people for no reason. They pull up on you very fast in that truck and a bunch of them jump out like some sort of SWAT team and stare you down. Not to worry too much because most of them are way over 250 lbs and can't walk that far but the City police tactics they use actually violate the park rules. They park wrong. Use intimidating ways to scare you away.
