Had an opportunity to stop for lunch with family. You have to try this place! Poncho’s does not disappoint. The prices are great and the food is plentiful. Bring your appetite..if this review helps put a πŸ‘πŸΌ

Ponchos is an iconic Mexican restaurant, in the heart of South Phoenix, that I have been going to for the last 25 years now. The food is excellent. The margaritas are bomb. Their salsa is to die for. You have to go and check it out, if you get a chance.

After the remodel, I'm giving it 1 more star! The structure is the same but the lighter color scheme makes the entire place feel less cramped. The decor now has some art pieces from local Arizona artists. There are permanent plexiglass dividers in some rooms. The complimentary chip basket is bigger and better! Each table still has its own bottle of red salsa to drown your taste buds with all the spice you can handle. The menu look has been revamped as well with a few new options. The popular traditional dishes are still available, and the few I've tried taste the same as I remember. Give yourself at least 30 minutes to park, wait to get seated, to get your order taken and get your food. Servings are still huge. Go hungry... but not too hungry. πŸ˜‰

Very disappointed and sad to see the restaurant go downhill. 😞 Ponchos has been awesome in 30 years of going there. Even before the pandemic I noticed a change. Its way expensive now. I don't mind paying for quality and quantity. I had the 2 tacos with rice and beans. Basic dish, small portions. Shredded beef taco was so so deep fired it was not edible. It was not even taco shaped. The chicken taco was a piece of whole dark chicken, the shell was so oily, greasy, soggy not crunchy. The rice was different, sort of tasteless. The beans were good. I didn't take pics because I didn't want to dis them that badly.. When I say the portions are small, the rice & beans were 2 tablespoons. πŸ˜’ Unfortunately, we won't be going back anytime soon.

I love this rode side spot. The construction on the street places it right in ur face. U have 2 pass right by it. The food was very nice. A guy in line recommend the dish w/ red sauce. We didn't get it but he lit up about the dish. Our food hit the hunger spot. Pretty ladies make the food better as well. Hey ladiesπŸ™ŽπŸ™ŽπŸ™ŽπŸ’…πŸ’…πŸ’…πŸ’…πŸ™‹πŸ™‹πŸ™‹πŸ™‹πŸ™‹

If you love beef green chili, this is your place! I highly recommend the Borracho Burro. The burro is served enchilada style with green sauce and cheese. It is filled with their delicious beef green chili with a side of sour cream and guacamole. My wife loves their enchiladas with their red sauce. The rice and beans taste homemade. The salsa is delicious too! We love to order a cheese crisp pizza style and dip it in their salsa. Just something about the combination of the two. For those complaining about the wait time, it's because the food is good...duhhh! Of course there's going to be a line. But well worth the wait!

I’ve been eating here for over 20 years, and the place is celebrating its 50th anniversary of this year. So cool! Something was off today with the albondigas and the cheese crisp. It wasn’t as good, and the flour tortilla was hard. Also, our waiter didn’t come back to see if we wanted our drinks topped off. Drinking water the rest of the meal wasn’t the end of the world, but it would’ve been nice to have more Coke. With the new decor and paint job, some of the spirit and tradition of the place was lost. It is still nice, but it feels much more sterile and mechanical.

Since reopening: Food is good as usual, if you've been expect the same deliciousness as before. The new look provides brighter lights and lighter walls so the rooms feel bigger in a way. The staff was extra friendly and very attentive. The bar door was locked and everyone needed to go into the main door an wait to be seated. Long lines as usual but the wait wasn't too bad.

Oh heaven's, this place. Since 1972. That should say enough, a small family business that has been around 51 years has got to be good. And it is great! Have not had a chimichanga since.... Chi-chis? Had green sauce, It was loaded with beef, fried just right and came out piping hot and was more than a meal. Try everything once. There will be a short wait. Period.

Twice I've been here for the past 2 years and their food is so delicious, meat quality is on 100% πŸ˜‹, we had a huge party reservation and the whole fam took over 2 of the 3 dining room areas. It is kind of small but the wait is always worth it, opens at 4pm everyday. Even had a separate bar area , I love their Mango πŸ₯ Chili margarita (It's a Mangonada 😍 basically). There hot salsa and chips are so delicious, couldn't get enough of them tbh, watch out they will get you full tho. Family friendly home style restaurant, celebrity photos on the wall too, it's a must stop while in Phoenix! Out of all Mexican restaurants It's my top restaurant to go to in Arizona. I 1000% recommend. Service is great, lady with the red/ Orange hair been working there for a long time and she memorizes everyone's order, love that. (Btw: Tip is already included with the check, you can tip more tho, I do.)

The shredded chicken burrito was so good, the chicken was so delicious. The restaurant’s decor is really cute with the outdoor/indoor feel. I would caution tall people, because there are some areas where the headroom is low. There are also 2 doors, one to enter & see the hostess to be seated and another near the bar. If you enter by the bar (which we did) you have to walk through the restaurant to the hostess to be seated. It’s a little weird.

Ponchos looks like they recently did a remodel and it looks great. We haven't been here in about a year and I was pleasantly surprised. Food is always on point and delicious, I had a #1 combo and it was excellent. My husband said the same about his red chili burro and beef taco.

The Food is Delicious, Full of Flavor and the Right Spiciness. The interior of the restaurant is decorated with Beautiful Mexican Artifacts and extremely clean. There is a separate or designated bar area as well. The service is extraordinary, as the waitresses are very attentive to the customers needs. Highly recommend this Great Restaurant. Many Blessings To You All and Enjoy!!!!

There's a reason that this restaurant has been successful for decades, still in the same location while assuring that same quality in its great-tasting food. We were seated at the famous table where the Former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, once sat during his visit to Arizona.

The service was unbelievably phenomenal! I ordered food to-go as it was my first time there, so I didn't know there was a pickup window in the front. I went inside to get my food. The hostess was super friendly, giving me a tour of the restaurant, and engaging with the other customers (on my behalf) to assure me that the food was delicious. She gave me some history of their establishment, showed some pictures on the walls, and really made me want to come back. A few other employees joined in the history lesson, which only added to the high level of hospitality I felt. I will return, next time to dine in.

Excellent food and service. My meal was amazing. While I wanted to finish the entire thing, it was so much food I took 1/2 home and ate is as a meal the next day. It was just as delicious.

Been eating here for 39 years, it has been a roller coaster ride, but I'm grateful they're still open (throughout the pandemic and now the light rail construction). The food was always amazing years ago, then for unknown reasons the food was horrible (a lot of folks stopped eating there), then miraculously they bounced back and food was great again. The server was great, she was just by herself and took too long at times. Food rating is due to the chips being over cooked (kills the great taste). This has been happening for way too long, I've brought it to their attention twice, months apart. The chips and salsa (mild not chunky, although that's good too, they just charge for it) are the main reason I drive all the way from Tempe, so please stop burning the chips. It's not too much to ask when y'all have served the best chips ever for at least 38 out of the 39 years I've eaten there.

My favorite Mexican food restaurant in South Phoenix. My only suggestion would be to give in to technology and offer online ordering and delivery through Uber Eats, Doordash, etc. I know we would probably order Poncho’s at least once a week. Several of my neighbors feel the same way. I think it would boost your sales.
