πŸ‘πŸ‘ Fairly easy hike. There are a lot of hills, rocky surface and no real directions. The views of the city are amazing. When you get to the top, there are so many trails to take. Be sure to mark where you parked. People often mention trail, trails, easy, hike,

Javelina Canyon is a good place to start your hike. Once you go down it a couple of miles and up to the top of the ridge,, you have options. You can across the Ridge and go back to your starting point on Beverly Canyon. Or you can go back on top of the Ridge trail which is more work but a better view. Beautiful area but busy on the weekends!

Always something fun to do if looking for something simple. I like to go around a few times to get a good burn. Right off the end of the 60 freeway, moderate for kids easy for adult, I would say. There's a little side trail, one marked and one not (both take you to the same area) that takes you to the top for a 360 view, I recommend it. Depending on which way you take the trail depends on "diffculty". Be safe and have fun!

I love coming to South Mountain it helps a lot that I don’t live far from it. if you’ve been hiking for quite some time this is an easy or moderate trail that leads to other trails. You can spend all day here be sure not to get lost on your way back to the car. Not a lot of shades. I do love Cactus pictures. Bring lots of water. A Little Rocky so do Wear proper closed toe shoes. Enjoy!

Nice trail, shaded areas along the trail . I especially enjoyed the man made chairs towards the end of the trail. If you have a seat you get a different view of the skyline.

There are lots of trails in the south mountains. We started at the Javelina trail head and reached the point where the trail forks into Ridgeline trail. Ridgeline trail is beautiful since you are walking in the ridges and you see spectacular views of the Phoenix valley. The ridgeline trail leads you back to the parking lot. The trails are not difficult, but make sure you carry sunscreen and water.

One of the best hiking , running trails in Phoenix. It has several different loop lengths and difficulty levels to choose from. It’s easy / moderate difficulty at times. Terrain it rugged and stony Sonoma desert and it gets quite sandy, rocky and even sharp at times. If you go there during the day be prepared with hat, sunscreen and plenty of water as it gets really hot. Best time is either at dusk or dawn, when temperatures are bit cooler and tolerable. Make sure you get headlamp however as it gets dark and easy to miss a step. Otherwise it’s really great place for single / couple / family exercise for all levels of difficulty.

Uphill hike in a canyon to the summit. Trail is multiuser, so you yield to mt. bikes. About 4 miles roundtrip.

One of my favorite places to hike and especially when everything is in bloom! If it's your first time to the mountain make sure you follow the markers because there's a lot of trails and you can get turned around pretty quickly.

An AMAZING place to go either early morning or late evening for most the year, just be careful and wear both good shoes for incline and decline as well as sunscreen!

The trail is fun to do Mountain biking. the trail is dry and rocky at some points. The parking lot is big and the trailhead has restrooms. Pretty well kept.

Fun short 3.5 miler. Rolling hills ending up descending back through a canyon over looking the city. No restrooms

This is a great trailhead for easy to intermediate hikes. There are plenty of options exploring the South mountain from this point. Parking is little iffy as it is somewhat limited but at the time we came we were able to get a spot without much difficulty. As always, make sure you have plenty of hydration.

Easy access to both Javelina Canyon and Beverly Canyon. Lots of great trails to access from this location. Anywhere from a quick out and back, to a full day. The only caveat is that the parking lot fills up on weekends and you may have to park in the street up to 1/2 mile from the trailhead. Parking in the lot is limited to marked spaces and you may get a ticket if you try to improvise one. Hint: if you have a motorcycle, there are always a few spots available at the he southeast corner of the lot. March is wildflower season.
