Great trail. A lot of loose rock and direct sunlight, so make sure you come prepared with plenty of water and sunscreen. If you need both hands to balance, bring a backpack, you'll move much faster that way. Great views! So worth getting to the top!

Very beautiful and peaceful Mountain Preserve Park in Phoenix. Facilities are clean and maintained. Hiking trails for all levels & for walking and jogging with dogs. Hike up to summit is moderate to difficult (30 - 45 minutes depending on pace and rest stops). Park at Mesquite for shortest direct route to summit. Entrance gate closes at 7pm, but exit is left open for people to leave.

Great views. Well maintained trail that starts a few steps from parking lot. The view is fantastic all the way up so you can stop and go back down anytime... downhill is more difficult than up but very doable. Good shoes are a must. Entry is free but entrance gate closes at 7 pm.

Beautiful area, nice parking lot although limited parking. The entire trail is steep but is very doable with frequent breaks. I would highly recommend coming here about 45 minutes before sunset, the views are incredible, and bring a flashlight for the way down!

Awesome trail! Not super technical hiking, but it’s def a workout. The trail was in great shape, used running shoes and wasn’t a problem. Lots of people on the trail but not overly crowded on a Sat morning around 9:30 am. Def worth the stop if you have a few hours to kill, the view of the city is great!

I recently went for a sunset hike on the Piestewa Peak Trailhead and it was a wonderful experience! The views of the city from the top were breathtaking and the trail was well-maintained and easy to follow. The sunset was gorgeous and I was able to take some beautiful photos. I highly recommend this hike to anyone looking for a great way to take in the beauty of the Phoenix skyline!

Very popular trail however everyone cheering one another on and being supportive was amazing. Many different age and fitness levels there. Very well pathed, even some railing in certain areas. Earlier is best as the parking is limited. There are bathrooms at the start of the trail so that was helpful. Even has some gazebo hangouts and pull up bars before you get started. Views are amazing and well worth it. Keep pushing! Don't give up.

Beautiful panoramas from the top of this somewhat challenging hike! It is like a stairmaster, straight up for about 30 minutes.

I am a pro hiker and this trail destroyed my back. Took me two weeks to recover, which is not normal for me. Whatever you do not go fast, take your sweet time! The view at the top is amazing but if you don’t adhere to the double black diamond trail rating you will be regretting this for awhile.

I did the Freedom trail that leads to the Nature trail. I wanted a nice easy hike and these trails are perfect. Low incline for the majority of the trail but it was a nice scenery. Take water. The restroom is along the side of the trail and you can get water there as well. I even take a light snack (granola bar)in case I need a little more energy.

Great hike! Definitely not for beginners. It’s a steep hike, so I’d advise going in the morning. Amazing views of Phoenix! I love that you can be in the city and get to a great hike like this.

I went hiking at the Piestewa Peak Trailhead, and I have to say, it was a fantastic experience. Even though parking can be tricky, the hike and the views from the top were worth it. The trail itself was well-maintained and offered a challenging but manageable climb. The panoramic views from the peak were breathtaking, and it was the perfect way to spend a beautiful day outdoors. I would give the Piestewa Peak Trailhead a full five stars and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic hiking experience in the area.

Beautiful views, beautiful park, it is the second most iconic mountain in Phoenix. Parking lot is large, the pavilions artistic and beautiful but due to the popularity of the park it fills fast. The trail looks easy and is well maintained but the surface is hard rock and the steps are weirdly low and long making it difficult to get a good climbing pace. The trail itself is just too off for me to enjoy the hike and I have turned back too many times to count. The view from the top is the unquestionably the best in the valley but for me it's about hiking and its so awful I give it one star. If you can only climb one mountain in Phoenix chose Camelback or South Mountain or North Mountain.

Pretty out of shape but I made it! Congratulations to myself for pushing myself. I felt that it was challenging but it was also the first hike in Arizona’s desert. It was the first of many. I loved the views, my hiking buddies and the people I met on my journey. I WOULD RECOMMEND

Really nice trail! Decent steps up which are rugged as well. The views start even after 5 mins of the hike. Free parking as well and wasn’t too busy around 10am Saturday when we went

Great place to hike. Bring water and don’t go on the hottest days or go early in the morning. This place is really packed with people on weekends.

What a hike you gain elevation at almost 100 feet per tenth of a mile so be ready it’s relentless. Nice views once at the top wear good shoes and be careful on the way back down as it’s almost like walking on Mars and easy to twist an ankle.

The main parking lot was under construction but there was plenty of parking before and after the start of the trail. This trail is certainly difficult so be sure to bring water and hydrate on your way. The views at the top are all worth the challenge!

WARNING: Very steep and uneven hike not recommended for children or older/disabled folk. It's a beautiful hike with great views. Mountains are impressive and it is not far from the city. Very busy with some people running up it which I found strange. Especially for how uneven the footing is... Some may have to nearly jump up the steps. Other than that, a great place to exercise.

This is beautiful location in Phoenix of AZ dist in USA. The scenic beauty is so awesome that any one will love this place absolutely. Although not much crowded the population visiting this mountain never miss any opportunity to make strolls playing and kids extremely enjoy this place to the core. The photos I have uploaded will definitely stand as testimony to my observations.

We’re from Kansas, so not used to hiking 😂, but this trail wasn’t too challenging. It’s so beautiful! We found parking pretty easily, and the trail was clean. Great place to hike!

Not the easiest trail but totally worth it!!! Very clean place, lots of space for parking. If you going to do hiking, wear proper hiking shoes (some spots are slippery because of sand) bring water and sunscreen!!! 🥾🏔🎒

We did 3 trails here all were amazing. The summit trail is a good trail to try if you want to train for the grand canyon. There is plenty of parking and alot of people. The view of the valley is beautiful!

This hike was pretty nice. Not too crowded but decent amount of foot traffic. It was a more leisurely climb compared to Echo Canyon, which I did a couple days before, but the views were not as impressive. This climb was more steplike (instead of jagged rocks at most places). It only got a bit challenging toward the end. There were plenty of flat places to stop and rest along the way. The view was nice at top since it’s pretty close to city. When I went they were doing construction on the parking/trailhead area. But there was still some parking available. Others parked on side of road.

Not sure what the "big attraction" is. Just a few desert hill in a park with some trails. The main parking lot was under construction, so parking was a challenge. Ok for a city park and quick hike. Not a Colorado type hike !!

Fun short but challenging hike. Not for the faint of heart or those afraid of heights. I have recommended it to others to enjoy as much as I did.

We just had a little time to kill before our flight back to Portland and this little grouping of mountains/hills looked really cool from the road as we were driving by. Super glad we stopped in! Busy parking lots at 4pm on a Wednesday, so plan accordingly. Seemed like a lot of people try to trail run it. Close to 1,200 foot ascent in just over a mile. The orientation of the rocks that make up the trail and hillside are worth looking at alone, but there are incredible views even if you go partway up like we did. Glad it was a cool day, would be tough in the summer.

We hiked up Piestewa trail starting at 0730 today (a mid October Saturday). Very busy, with 95% of hikers coming downhill. We branched off to the Freedom trail before the crest. Both had either broken concrete, loose shale, or sharp rocks. Not a good experience overall. The Feeedom trail on the north side was a lot less busy, but still with steep up and down climbs. If you like Camelback Mountain then like this place. If you want a hard packed trail with a slow elevation climb then avoid this place.

Hiked this trail New Years Day in the late afternoon. I love hiking but need more training for the continuous inclines of this trail. My friend who does summits frequently, went to the top. I went part way, far enough to enjoy extensive beautiful views of the valley, and gorgeous sunset when we were coming down.

Great hike for the city easy path perfect for all levels. Parking fills up quick so get there early or plan to wait for parking. People always in and out so not long of a wait.

The Summit Trail isn't the easiest hike, but it's worth it, even if you don't reach the tippy top. I took my time on a sweet 60 degree December day, and just soaked in the the views while looking for good camera angles. It is a popular trail that can get busy, so if you're slower like me, try to stay out of the way of all the people that will be passing you.

This time of year it's best to get out very early to beat the Heat. This hike was started at 5:10... did the circumference Trail which is called a 302 Trail, counterclockwise. This allows you to hike most of the hike in the shade plan on around 2 hours for the average hiker. Bring plenty of water and enjoy.

Most people don’t know this but Piestewa was the last name of the first Native American woman to die in combat, at age 23 in Iraq. An Arizona native, she called this place her second home. I don’t disagree with her on it being one of the most phenomenal hikes you can think of right in the middle of Phoenix. The only reason for the 4 star review is the lack of parking and heavy traffic throughout the park and trails, both with cars and people. Avoid this place on weekends during the spring because of all the tourism traffic, even though you’d still probably say it’s worth it!

This trail and the views are great! Not too difficult, but represents a stair stepper all the way up. It's a nice way to start the weekend. Parking is limited, but there is street parking close by.

Meh, this place was overcrowded. I took the trail up to the summit. While it did get worked up in a sweat, the views were average. I could still see the city and people were buzzing up and going down- so it felt very noisy. Also, on the way down from the saddle, I had to take my time to make sure of my footing. Behind me, impatient runners were blowing past me full speed. (I'm not sure how they manage to run downhill like that! I'm just shocked that very few people on this trail slowed down to enjoy the reviews and everyone was just rushing in and out).
