So...National
reached
out
to
me
and
asked
that
I
post
a
review.
OK
-
here
goes.
First
off,
over
the
past
25
years
I
have
rented
literally
hundreds
of
cars,
mostly
for
business
travel
and
primarily
from
Dollar,
Avis
and
National.
On
average,
I
rented
15-20
cars
a
year.
In
that
time,
I've
had
damage
occur
to
three
cars.
Two
windshields
and
one
tire.
In
all
three
cases
I
took
care
of
the
damage
with
no
question.
So
my
last
rental
from
National
went
fine
until
about
10
days
after
I
returned
the
car.
That's
when
I
received
an
email
from
the
"Damage
Recovery
Unit"
at
National
claiming
that
the
vehicle
had
been
returned
with
damage.
No
details
were
provided,
just
a
request
for
my
insurance
information.
But
the
car
was
NOT
damaged
and
this
is
confirmed
by
three
witnesses
PLUS
the
gentleman
who
checked
in
the
car
and
told
me
everything
was
OK.
I
did
not
get
this
in
writing
nor
did
I
take
any
photos.
Over
the
past
decades
of
car
rentals
I
never
needed
to
do
so.
Basically
I
see
this
as
a
scam
by
National.
I
let
the
DRU
know
that
I
dispute
their
damage
claim
and
would
vigorously
fight
should
they
move
forward
against
me.
I
have
yet
to
hear
back,
but
don't
really
expect
that
they
have
dropped
the
matter
just
yet.
The
car
rental,
pickup
to
drop-off
went
fine.
The
car
was
clean
and
performed
nicely.
I
thought
it
was
another
uneventful
rental,
until
I
heard
from
the
DRU.
That
changed
everything
in
this
review.
Should
they
drop
the
matter,
I'll
be
pleased
and
will
chalk
it
up
to
a
mistake
of
some
sort.
But
should
they
pursue
this
matter
at
all,
I
will
never
rent
from
National
again.
By
the
way,
I'm
an
Executive
Club
member
at
National
as
well.
So
I
guess
we'll
find
out
how
they
really
treat
what
they
claim
are
their
most
valued
customers.
To
other
National
customers,
I'd
be
very
leery
and
make
sure
you
document
the
condition
of
your
vehicle
upon
return.
