Wonderful hike! The Shaka Cave and waterfall are amazing. No water at the falls today but it's still cool. When it rains the falls are awesome! Hike to Shaka Cave is moderate with some slopes and a few difficult areas. Hike to the falls is harder, watch your footing. The Wave Cave is also on this trail. It's easy until the last 15 min where you have to climb. Worth it though!

Wave Cave hike was very pleasant. 3 miles of moderate terrain. Beautiful views, great day for a hike with the high about 63. Not too busy today. Make sure you bring plenty of water as there is not much shade. Be sure you stop from time to time and look at the views behind you.

It's is a beauty of an experience I highly recommend it for people who are use to long hikes. This one gets a bit harder half way through the trail. First you'll go around the first mountain once you go around you'll start a mildy sharp incline lots of leg work it's like climbing nature's stairs but it's not to far you'll be able to see the beautiful large cave. Once you get there you'll feel the temperature change and you'll see the wave like Rock structure and the view is just perfection.

This was a really cool trail to hike up to the wave cave with my daughter. It is a little more intensive than we originally thought (we should have done more research and we would have known better) so we went a bit unprepared with street clothes/shoes. I recommend you wear comfortable hiking clothes and hiking shoes. Stretch really good before you start and bring water. It took my 10 year old and I about 2.5 hours to hike up to the cave and all the way back down to our car including stopping to rest at the cave. There is some mild climbing involved and a lot of incline once you make it about half way. Watch for the white painted arrows they will keep you on the trail.

The hike up to wave cave is fairly breath taking as far as exertion goes. Our group took a few breaks to catch our breath. Wonderful view from the cave. Would recommend plenty of water and rest stops.

Absolutely amazing experience ❀️ there are unnecessary spray painted arrows along the path, which direct you to the wave cave instead, there is a fork of 3 options, go right for the Carney springs waterfall and Shaka cave, there is Joshua tree on the trail that connects these two, go straight on the fork for the wave cave You can explore the waterfall area too, there are a few other smaller waterfalls too There is a lot more brush and trees on this hike, and the rocks offer shade too in the morning hours, the waterfall and creek only flow after steady or hard rain The first part of the trail is also very flat but it inclines once you pass the creek There is a metal fence that seems like an optical illusion, just follow the pathπŸ’“ (pictures if needed) Signage does say a permit is required but we didn't encounter anyone checking There is relative a large amount of parking spaces too as they have a few lots The views are amazing too 😍 you just see wilderness as far as the eye can see The drive in is far and bumpy on a dirt road, you cross over some little creeks too, the GPS is accurate all the way to the trailhead, staying to the left at the spilt in the road

Carney Springs trailhead has parking for about a dozen cars. The trail is well maintained and wide. You can take the trail through to Carney Springs waterfall, or Shaka cave. Alternatively you can veer off to the Wave cave, or meander the lowland by following Lost Goldmine trail.

Definitely a tough trail (especially if you're out of shape, like me... Lol), but totally worth it!
