Excellent museum, with a free tour guide (the museum creator itself) in the afternoons, where you can see and listen through the history of mechanical music. Visit and texts in Portuguese only.

Visited this great museum yesterday and absolutely loved it! When you are in Lisbon and have plans to visit it: take a taxi from Pinhal Novo! I walked for over an hour... it was worth it but it saves you a lot of time if you take a taxi... Why I think you should go and visit this museum? Because it gives a great overview of how music machines evolved over the past 200 years!

Absolutely amazing collection. It’s worth the drive from lisbon! Be sure to check the hours before going since it has limited opening times. It is also located on a small horse farm and they invite you to stop in.

This is a wonderful museum of music boxes, automatic piano and organs, toys, clocks, pictures and puppets with music and lots of old gramophones, wax cylinders, etc. It is possibly the most complete collection that traces the history of music machines and sound recording. The most amazing thing is that it is a private collection of Luis Cangueiro, who explains the items with passion in guided tours 3:30p.m. during the weekend. It is recommended to visit in weekends that you can hear the automatic instruments played instead of listening to sound recordings. There are also temporary exhibitions and workshops sometime. The museum is a bit far, that you need to drive or take a train to the station Pinhal Novo. Outside of the train station there is a taxi stand where you can find phone numbers to call a taxi, and the museum is about 10-15 mins drive from the station.

Amazing collection of musical instruments that you wind up. Make sure you go for the 15:30 demonstration and be ready to be amazed. They also have a horse ranch at the back and facilities for birthday parties.

For those who love music and its story of how to record and listen to it it would surely be a fantastic afternoon, plus the lovely garden and farm with horses.

Due to the unique collection it is one of the most distinguished museums in Portugal. The place full of music and joy and history. It is a private collection, and the museum opens on week-ends only, but it is worth visiting. Will be happy to be there again to listen to the story how the mechanical music was born. As it is written in the ad, we have a unique opportunity to hear the voices and the sounds which people listened to 200 years ago
