Terrible staff and customer service, they were rude and disrespectful to me and my classmates We got server salad, cucombers and and potatos for dinner, the next day our train got delayed so we got 15 min late to dinner, the staff refused to give us food, the staff smiled when we asked if we could bring food to our rooms, they denied our request and showed no sympathy, we asked if we could eat pizza in the backyard but they didt let us. The rooms are dirty and disgusting, we found a lot of desd insect on the walls and roof. Terrible and uncomfortable stay.

I've stayed at many youth hostels before and had a lovely experience. This one started out the same however at the end everything turned bad very quickly having the manager threaten to call the police and then telling me to leave. Apart from incorrectly booking my room at the start, being very expensive, staff rarely being at reception, having to pay for wifi in 4 hour blocks and not having curtains to block the morning Sun out it was ok. The breakfast was nice and the place was clean. However some of the staff were quite rude, my girlfriend realised this straight away but I thought I'd give them a chance. When I checked in on originally wanted to stay for 4 nights with possibly extending it to a week the receptionist offered me to pay the full week and get back what I didn't use. I read the terms and conditions she gave me they said nothing contrary to what she had told me so i agreed. When I went to check out 2 nights early the manager refused to give me the money for the nights I didn't stay. He said I signed a contract saying that there was no refunds. I asked to see the contract, he looked but couldn't find anything then pointed to a notice board down the hallway saying which couldn't be seen saying they are the terms and conditions. When I argued my case explaining what had happened he got angry with me and threatened to call the police. I asked him why he was going to call the police, if I had been threatening him or doing something illegal? He said no he just doesn't want to talk with me any more. He turned around and walked out telling me to leave. He never gave me my money back and kicked me out of the hostel.

About 15 min walk from the train station their hostel was purpose built but a new annex allows for barrier free access. Located right next to the picturesque moat a walk in the opposite direction takes you to water west and east, split by the liny fish harbor in the middle. This is the cutest historic river town in the region. easily reachable by train from Cuxhaven or Hamburg and a neat place from which to explore if Hamburg is too big city like any other place in the world for you. If you rent a bike you can go to the Elbe river and even explore some river beaches. The youth hostel parents are an amazing couple who have been the host parents for over 30 years. Their quest to source locally gives you treats of locally grown bio apple juice. Bio Elderberry Champagne and other lovely extras. Be sure to tell them they are heroes as they are on call 24hrs 365 days a year.
