Nice square near the Pisa Tower The Knights’ Square (Italian: Piazza dei Cavalieri) is a landmark in Pisa, Italy, and the second main square of the city. This square was the political centre in medieval Pisa. After the middle of 16th century the square became the headquarters of the Order of the Knights of St. Stephen. Now it is a centre of education, being the main house of the Scuola Normale di Pisa, a higher learning institution part of the University.

Piazza dei Cavalieri, also known as Knights' Square, is a historic square located in the heart of Pisa, Italy. It is considered one of the most important architectural masterpieces of the Renaissance era and one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. The square is surrounded by several important buildings, including the Palace of the Knights of Malta, the church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri, and the Palazzo della Carovana. The Palace of the Knights of Malta, built in the 16th century, is the most impressive building in the square and was once the headquarters of the Knights of Malta. Today, it serves as a cultural center and hosts exhibitions, concerts, and other events. The church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri is another notable landmark in the square. It was built in the 16th century and is known for its elegant Renaissance style. The Palazzo della Carovana, which was once the home of the Grand Master of the Knights of Malta, is now the headquarters of the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, one of Italy's most prestigious universities. Piazza dei Cavalieri is a popular tourist destination and is surrounded by many restaurants, cafes, and shops. Visitors can also enjoy stunning views of the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, which is located just a few minutes away from the square. Overall, Piazza dei Cavalieri is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, architecture, and art.👌🏻👌🏻

A large square in front of a very prestigious university. There is not much to see or do, however I recommend going at night, very nice atmosphere for meeting young people.

The square looks nice but the church was close and on one side there was a building renovation so it was noisy. But you should take a walk in the square.

This square is very quiet, away from the busy Piazza del Duomo and Leaning Tower area. We spent a peaceful time wandering around it. The buildings surrounding this square are elegant palaces, medieval little churches, and a century old college belonging to the University of Pisa.

For the buildings around it, and the history behind them, particularly those associated with Ugolino and his family, it’s worth stopping. But you can’t go into any one of them.

Great square. It's a big, sun-drenched, historic-building lined, absolutely central, and frightfully empty space. What else would you want from a square?

I was disappointed when I visit the plaza it was empty & just myself standing in the middle. It is not like other plazas where there are many stores around it & full with people.

Anyone interested in history, architecture, and art, a must visit destination. Piazza dei Cavalieri is a popular tourist destination. Many restaurants and cafes & many gift shops are very near to the square. For Asian peoples Ristorante Indano Gandhi & Namastey India restaurants are good for lunch & dinner. Enjoyed Gelataria Costa Icecream near Pisa tower.

Nice market, dedicated to the Knights, all buildings decorated with the Maltese Cross. The central fountain is a blessing in a hot summer day

Piazza Cavalieri, Pisa, Italy. The place is a point of reunion for everyone in the city (usually after midnight) : students, locals, turists, and a lot more! It's a strange and huge square where you can do everything, from simply drinking and smoking or play music. Often you can enjoy varius kind of street artists, and if you are lucky, even love waits you there.

Historic plaza. Great place for tourists to have a look around at some beautiful and famous buildings. Be aware that cars do drive through the plaza though, so you must be diligent about that. Characteristically beautiful and old buildings, most with guest access. 3-5 minute walk from thr tower with good coffee shops all around.

No doubt one of the best square I had ever seen. I got there at night time and it was a pleasant surprise. Pisa is not just the leaning tower ,beautiful architecture all around.

Worth visit this beautiful square while in Pisa. Its 100 times nicer when you see the square with your eyes rather seeing it on pictures. Definately recomended place in Pisa.

A beautiful 'Bella Notte' Piazza, found accidentally on an early evening ramble, tucked away from the busy main street. Surrounded on all sides by unusual architecture and more intriguing and inviting alleyways. eateries, and market squsres Delightful unexpected pleasure.

Kool spot to be at night on the weekend with people playing frizby, relaxing and enjoying themselves. Streets around do smell like public toilets but the architecture is very beautiful.

This is the second most popular Piazza in Pisa (first being the Piazza dei Miracoli). If you're interested in history and architecture, you'd be able to appreciate the significance of the piazza.

You'll most likely walk through this plaza on the way to seeing the leaning tower and the Duomo. It is a nice place though a bit austere without trees, greenery or any protection from the sun or the elements. Buildings are fairly standard Italian townhouses other than the splendid Palazzo della Carovana with its frescoed façade and Palazzo dell'Orologio which are worth a second look

Good place very near to the leaning tower of Pisa. The square is nice and usually not crowded. The statue is also good ! It's old architecture building in Pisa.

  • 5/5 Ignazio Kevin A. 1 year ago on Google
Wide square with old styled italian buildings. It's a little piece of art not far from the leaning tower. Some benches would be nice, also because it's a place you only pass by..
