Beautiful aviary! Plan on spending an hour here. It is small but worth the $15 entry fee in my opinion. It is located inside of a condo complex, and is not well marked. We passed it up and had to go back, paying close attention to find the entrance. There are also some smaller Mayan Ruins nearby, worth a short walk to see!

I’m not sure why people complain about the $15 entrance fee. How else are sanctuary’s supposed to afford to feed/upkeep animals and grounds? It was well worth it. Much better than seeing birds in tiny cages at a zoo.

A short after lunch walk brought us to this place.... kinda neat to see the exotic birds and small animals. For the price you pay (300 pesos) I wish the place was a little cleaner (ex spider webs in the bathroom)

Xaman-Ha is a lovely sanctuary, lovingly managed by knowledgeable staff (shout out to Edgar who was so fun to chat with!). It’s located within the gated hotel-zone of Playacar (security check at entrance). Although not very large in size, strolling through the sanctuary’s rustic paths and resting on the benches makes for a relaxing experience. They house an impressive amount of bird species and it’s quite obvious the birds are all well cared for. They even rehabilitate pelicans before releasing them back into the wild. Overall, a visit here is time and money well spent, just keep in mind it’s a sanctuary, not a zoo. A must-visit for bird lovers!

Loved seeing so many colourful birds! It's fairly small but was happy to spend the 300 pesos to explore the mini jungle and see the local fauna. I saw another comment complaining about the look of the birds, but 99% of this aviary is open. The birds can come and go as they please (except for a turkey enclosure).

Really nice walk through the small park. Costs 300 MXN (approx 15 USD) per person to walk through but well worth it if you take the time. Several different species of birds if you pay attention you'll see more there than it seems at first glance.

300 pesos per person is a bit too much I think for a small park (10 min walk will be enough to cover all but we linered longer). I hope the money is put to good use. Quit a lot of parrots and I enjoyed the flamingo chorus

Admission fee (as of January 4, 2024): $18 USD or 300 Mxn Pesos. Lovely park. Lots of flamingos, macaws, and other birds. Also some agouti and iguanas roaming around.

There were some really nice macaws, Amazon Parrots and flamingos. The netted enclosure had a toucan (didn't see it) and some large birds that looked like a mix between dinosaurs and turkeys. The price was a bit high for how small the place was but we enjoyed it. Say Hola near all the Amazon's because they will say Hola back.

Before entering we found the ticket price USD15 a bit expensive to see some birds only, but we were very happy we went in. It is a beautiful place, like a mini jungle. Our small kids also loved it. I would recommend it to my friends.

Still 300 pesos each, the area is small and looks unfinished. Not accessible for wheelchair users or others with mobility issues. Birds and rodents are visible and quite easy to photogrsph

$17 USD and took about 15 mins to walk through it. Cool to see all these bird and hope some of that money goes to preserving these animals.

This place is so cool!!!! You are right in the middle of the habitat, the animals are doing their thing all around you. I truly loved this experience. Great for any nature/animal/ bird lovers. When you get to the Playacar gates, let them know you are going to the aviary so they let you in.

Fun to see some Macaws and flamingos. There were some other birds too but this aviary is extremely small and took us about 15 minutes to walk through the whole thing. Definitely not worth the $16USD entry fee but a nice little detour on the way to 5th Ave if you're a bird lover.

Great place with a half dozen varieties of the prettiest birds hanging around their corner of the park. We went when it opened and were greeted with mosquito repellent and a smile!

We loved this bird sanctuary! Entry was $300MX/person. My partner is a bird vet and she had no red flags about the way the birds are treated in this place. Plenty of different species like Amazons, Aras, Flamingos. The vegetation is amazing and the parc is quite big. Tons of Sereques running everywhere (local rabbit/squirrel). It was really relaxing, I'd recommend the experience 🦜🌴

A great place to bird watch (among lots of iguanas and agoutis!). There was only one other person there so it’s nice and quiet. Definitely worth the trip if you like birds! CONS- As of January 12 the women’s washroom was out of order, and the men’s was in horrible shape (I imagine it hasn’t been cleaned in weeks considering this place does not seem to be busy at all)- for 300 pesos, they should at least have a working bathroom that’s in decent condition (and there aren’t any others in the area). It would be nice if there was a bit of information shared about the types of birds, as well as explanations as to why some birds are caged in and others aren’t, how they got there, etc. It’s mostly open air, except for one area that is fenced in that you can enter. But then there is also a much smaller cage off in the corner that had multiple large birds.

Beautiful little avairy, lots of birds to see and we even saw an iguana ! Just prepare yourself because there was alot of biting insects about and the floor was quite slippy

The birds are beautiful and what they are doing there is great. However, all the signs are in spanish. I am going to guess that there are many tourists that come to this avairy and they are not all spanish speaking. It would be nice to have directional and explanations in English as well.

Arrived just after 10am which turned out to be perfect. Lots of birds and wild animals arrived as they were putting out food at various areas. As it is an open air aviary not sure how many birds you'll see outside of feeding hours. Fees for an Adult were 300 pesos and they seemed to only take cash and wouldn't make change for a 500 peso bill, best to bring exact bills.

Small but nice to see, parrots 🦜, pelicans, flamingos and iguanas, amongst other animals and ducks.

Loved this little paradise and didn't want to ever leave it. Expectations and preferences vary, so if you are not into animals, this might not be your happy place. If you are cheating at bird watching, here's an excerpt of the species you can see: Great Curassow, Black-Bellied Whistling Duck, Muscovy Duck, White Ibis, Brown Pelican, Great Egret, Snowy Egret (yellow feet), Keel-Billed Toucan, Wood Stork. Also, lots of agouti and some iguanas you might almost stumble over because you are so focused on the birds. Afterwards, you can walk to the beach through the Mayan Ruins.

Great place to see and to listen to birds. A refreshing oasis in the downtown. Affordable price and so much nature.

The aviary is in desperate need of maintenance. The ponds are stagnant and filthy. It looks as if there used to be waterfalls, that are no longer working. Yes, the birds and rodents are close and easy to photograph. I wonder about their health.

There is absolutely no clear way to get here if you’re not staying in this resort. I walked here from the main tourist street (5th Avenue) and was turned away while I was a few blocks away. The path was gated and the guy at the gate just said we couldn’t go in unless we were staying or had a reservation. A reservation for a zoo? When we talked to our hotel about it they were also confused and recommended walking there through the beach but we were already over it.

A lovely walk through the jungle and simple cenote to see quite a number of birds in the wild and many of them do actually have the freedom to fly away if they choose, but the environment has been so naturally enhanced for them that they choose to stay. It won't take long to get around the aviary, but there are a couple of seating areas where you can stop and just watch in peace and soak in the beauty of Mother Nature and wildlife. Not pushchair or wheelchair friendly...

Lots of wild birds especially Macaws. My wife and I were bitten to death by mosquitoes, very humid in there. Little lizards running about to.

The Xaman - Ha Aviary is really not worth the $15 dollar entrance unless you are really into birds and are willing to see one of the dirtiest aviaries I’ve ever seen, the place is not kept clean, some birds have signs of stress in their feathers and smells horrible throughout the whole aviary, some of the reviews are clearly lying on the condition of the place and I hope the authorities from Playa del Carmen impose rules and regulations to the owners so that the birds had a better place to live. Three starts for the birds and the owner cero
