It was great to see a market fully operated by women. There are three parts of the market - one offering fruits, vegetables, spices and other edibles; one offering sarees, traditional dresses, other dress items and handicraft items and the third one offering mosquito nets, bed and bath linens and other such items. There are lots of choices. However communication can be little problematic as not many are conversant with hindi or English. It's a vibrant market buzzing with activities.

Ima Keithel, locally translating into mother’s market is a beautiful place for shopping in Manipur. This is a 500-year-old vintage market, where almost 5000 women traders sell various products like Manipur textiles, ornaments, grains, cereals, home décor, spices, dried fish, and household items. This is one of the unique markets, not only in India but in the entire Asia, which is managed and run by only women force. Opening hours: 3:00 am to 7:00 pm

As a traveller it gives me immense joy when I get surprised by local notions. In the city of imphal I found out this Ima market that is an all-women-run marketplace. For locals, this is just another marketplace in the city. But if you are travelling from north or south India, this might be a unique treat to the eyes. This marketplace is very well organized and catalogues multiple products ranging from groceries to clothing. Do visit this place to experience how a women led organization can actually make a difference!

The only women-run market in the entire world. Everything you need is available here. Mostly handloom products and dresses. It has it's own SBI Bank by the top floor. A one stop place for buying ethnic wears and festive attires.

Only market run by females in the world. The vibe at ima market is very different and electric. A must place to visit if you are in Imphal, Manipur there you can get clothing for women and it's kind of local Mandi / bazzar. And yes you can test your bargaining skills for sure ..!!

Ima Keithel, also known as Ima Market, is a significant historical place in Manipur. It's also a great example of women's empowerment, which has been going on in Imphal for last 500 years. In many ways, it is unjust to call this historic city hub just a marketplace. It has always been more than that – a way of life for countless woman, a centre of information exchange and a symbol of gender equality.

Ima market is the only woman market in the world located at Manipur,Imphal. From a marketplace with lantern in the 70s to building with modern amenities it is also flowing along with time. Its market so all sorts of things are available its the lifeline for the people. The only problem is the cleanliness, lots must be done already but lots more need to be done sensitisation of the market vendors need to be done to properly dispose off the waste generated and more frequent collection of waste product can be done by the relevant authority as waste product keeps on piling for days.

Asia's biggest market run by women located at Imphal, Manipur. From traditional clothes to fruits, vegetables, items for worship and many more at Ima market. Outside the market small time vendors sell accessories such as clips, hair bands, cons, fashion jewelry etc. If your are visiting Imphal, do keep some time to visit this inviting market

Multiple huge markets entirely run by women. It was established in the 16th century and hosts around 5,000 women vendors who sell a variety of products. This entire street is a very unique place. It resembles other south east asian cultures.

This is one of the iconic places to visit in Imphal, Manipur. Ima market or Mother's market is located in the city center and is a market run by women. I visited this place in Jan 2023 and explored the local produce of Manipur. Quite interesting place and definitely interact with the locals. One of the oldest market run entirely by aged women folks or 'imas' (mother) as they are referred with love and affection. It has different sections of small stall setups ranging from vegetables, rare vegetables, dress and accessories for pujas, fish market, money change, handicrafts etc. There are about two to three such structures across the road.

A unique market run by women folks only. It is an epitome of the Manipuri society. Women play a major role in the political economy of the state. The market comprises three different sheds where one can find various items of day to day household uses- clothes, fruits, veggies, kitchen wares, fish, and others being sold. This market is considered to be the centre of Imphal and the state itself, given the economic and trade/commerce significance.

  • 4/5 Tanirika R. 1 year ago on Google
It's a local market with 3 parts. One is for apparel. You'll get all kinds of half saris, feneks, scarfs, etc. The one next to it is for fruits, vegetables, handicrafts, jewellery, dolls, fish, pottery, etc. The last one on the opposite foot is for bedding, bedsheets, bedcovers, shawls, plain feneks, plain sheets of cloth, etc. Some things to note: Bedsheets are sold as long cloth pieces so make sure to get them sewed their itself. The language barrier is huge so make sure to ask the right questions and get help from some hindi/English speaking person. Bargain your way through.

Also known as the Nupi Keithel or the Khwairamband Keithel, is a market in the heart of Imphal, Manipur (Kangleipak). Most interesting things about this keithel is.. it's the only market in the world which is run entirely by women.'Beleive it or not' Inside the market, male shopkeepers and vendors are not allowed to sell anything.A unique all women's market, having more than 3000 “Imas” or mothers who run the stalls, it is split two sections on either side of road. Vegetables, fruits, fish and household groceries are sold on one side and exquisite handlooms and household tools on the other.

Emas here are very friendly and i love it here. They sells all types of Manipuri traditional dress, fish, knives etc..

  • 5/5 Prasanta L. 1 year ago on Google
Great place. Women folk selling vegetables, fruits, fish, etc. trying to make a living. Didn't bargain on any purchase as their profit margins a very low (in the tune of just 1/2/3/4/5 rupees). Most of them are in business by taking loans from local Loan Sharks who charge exorbitant amounts as interest (5%, 10% or more per day). This is because they have no other option for availing the necessary capital. And they still manage to run their family. Sometimes, the local authority (the Police), just come & throw the products they are selling in the streets. To be continued...

Love this place. Right place to shop from handlooms and handicrafts to any other local products. Place is full of colours and the traditional clothes add vibrant and warm which make this Ima market interesting and historic.

Place can be visited..but the prices are very high...if anyone interested in tribe culture must visit the market... lots of wearing articles made of hand are available....but all are woman's wearing....one should bargain while buying...

It is the all important market in the state. You can get almost everything from here. But it is very crowded, very disorganised street vendors, garbages littered all around, heaps of dry & wet wastes piling up at every corner. A weak Municipal with little or no planning compounded by irresponsible public, it is still very far from being a smart city.

  • 5/5 Len H. 2 years ago on Google
The place to go for all things traditional and local: shawls, wraparounds, vegetable (ah, the herbs!), fish, etc., under three roofs.
