Our family, two adults and two teens, stayed here for a week in Oct 2022. The place has much going for it, just be clear on what your expectations are for the standard you want to stay in. Firstly, the staff are amazing and always willing to help and make our stay easy and memorable. Walking around the place reminds of some old tropical hotels in Bali and Thailand - the pool, plants, layout, the balconies overlooking the pool area. All make it very relaxing. Centrally located and an easy walk to town is a bonus. The downside for me were the bathrooms. The shower has to be the smallest I've ever tried to use. So small the door would open each time I moved or turned around. However, the beds are great. The rooms were easy to keep at a cool temperature. It has a lot going for it. However if you like more than three star luxury in the bathroom, this place is not for you.

A lovely quiet hotel but very convenient for the beach, marina and the main street. Clean and comfortable rooms and a nice pool area. Very friendly staff, we'd definitely return!

My experience here was amazing. Hotel is well looked after. Staff is a true winner because they helped us make our holidays memorable. They have all the experience with local trips and their advice saved one of our tours. Swimming pool was a great feature as well to cool down and revive after hot tropical day. Great location as well. 5 stars or 100% would come here again.

Super close to all the shops and beaches, beautiful view from our balcony looking onto the pool. Great price and the staff were friendly and helpful with booking tours. Highly recommend to stay here!

My parents stay here at the Port Douglas Retreat everytime they visit from Melbourne. It's Tropical surrounds are beautiful, the rooms are always clean and comfortable, quite with a pool if you don't feel like beaching it. It's a 10min walk to town, close to all the cafe's and Restaurants,if you don't feel like going out to dinner, there are BBQ'S plus your own kitchenette, salt water pool and it's only a 15 minute walk to the beach.. Fantastic price's also. It's a very popular Retreat, so if you're interested in staying here, book early before your wonderful holiday here in Port Douglas!

Good self service accomodation. Clean room and great pool/bbq/out door area. Friendly and helpful staff. We stayed for 7 days and the only negatives were that we ran out of soap over the week and unfortunately we were woken up each morning by road works at the front of the building. Location (Walking distance to everything) and the out door areas are definitely the best points. Would definitely recommend to others, but just remember it is self service rooms.

Great pool, quiet place so very suitable for couples and people wanting to relax. Rooms are a little old and dated, but the place is on the cheaper end of the spectrum for Port Douglas.

Asked for extra coffee/milk D3 of 6 night stay, after long previous day on Daintree tour. Told very bluntly extras not included. (Male) "Go up to the supermarket like everyone else!" Very reluctantly gave me some. Shortly after, female appeared at my door with half empty coffee jar left by previous guest. When I went to close my door, it was pushed open and pointed out to me where I should have read extra coffee/milk not provided. Replaced milk. No apology, no thankyou. Only comment.."we don't use that type!" My mistake, but really?? Accom pd $1000+, coffee/milk $1

We were disappointed on several levels. The room was just adequate (very outdated TV) but the service was not. Eg they provided 5 serves of instant coffee for 2 people for 5 days. There were no bathroom products - tissues and shampoo - apart from 2 very small pieces of soap. The soap holder in the shower was caked with old soap residue. The bathroom itself was very dated and needed a make-over considering the price per night. The "kitchen" layout was not the best with the microwave up high and difficult to reach, cutlery the absolute cheapest quality. No egg cups. No pepper & salt.

Great location- so close to the main street and beach. Clean rooms, and kind and helpful people running the place. Pool is nice and clean too. Such a lovely place, can't wait to come back

We had a great experience here! Stayed for 5 nights and feel we had great value for money, clean and simple, with touches of luxury, the pool area was particularly good and well enjoyed. Would happily stay again.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Location is perfect. Service and amenities were great. Room and laundry were clean. Pool area was lovely. Only downsides were we found our beds very uncomfortable and the birds and kids walking past during the night were very loud but eat plugs did solve this issue. Staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely consider staying here again.

We love this accommodation. And not our first time staying here, we liked it that much we booked again and will probably do so next year. Beautiful pool at great temperature, good location with 5 minute walk to shops and restaurants and peaceful. David and Joyce will help with what ever they can and polite and friendly. We just wanted to relax on our holiday and that's what we got.

Location! Easy walk to Main Street and wharf. Our room as very comfortable and clean. Great having a kitchenette that was well equipped. We sat on our balcony a lot when in the room and enjoyed the tree view. We spent a few afternoons by the pool and it was great. We never used the BBQ area but others were and it looked well set up. It is three star but for the price it certainly has a lot going for it. We would certainly book here again. David and Joyce were lovely.

Stayed here a while ago with my friends and the air conditioning didn't work in either of our rooms. Service wasn't friendly and was not good at accommodating our payment, wouldn't take cash and wouldn't let us split. Rooms were not clean and we had to wash all our dishes when we first got in the room. Wouldn't recommend.

This place was fantastic for our type of holiday. We cooked everyday so outdoor BBQ saved us. Fridge and sink are next to it. Lot of chairs and tables. Pool is clean and big enough size to swim, and shower and toilet behind the BBQ. Beautiful atmosphere with a tropical plants everywhere. Beautiful relaxing vibe 😌 Room has everything you need for cooking. Balcony is great too. Nice view to look down blue lighted pool. Peaceful place with great location between the east and west coast. We totally enjoyed our time there. Thank you.

The accomodation was excellent along with the pool. The staff were very accomodating. There is a barbeque and a laundry and its location is excellent

Great location to the beach and shops. Clean room with a kitchenette. The bathroom constantly smelled of sewage, the floor drain probably needs some maintenance. The pool could use some shade umbrellas.

Location, location, location! 10min walk to town centre, marina and brewery! Very helpful staff..thankyou David and Joyce. Kitchenette in room a bonus, when staying a little longer. Seating area on balcony was well used by us. Pool area is lovely and well maintained. Unfortunately, quite a bit of road noise at night (Room 4). The bed, for us, was most uncomfortable. A bit hard to avoid the hard ridge down the middle, where the 2 singles join. Would we stay again? Sure would, but would try and request a quieter room and one with a true queen or king bed!

The Port Douglas Retreat was disappointing! Given a tiny room with no view and no sunshine on the balcony at any time of the day. The pool area hardly received any sunshine throughout the day due to the overgrown trees around the pool. The pool was difficult to get in and out of and extremely deep in the middle. The signage for the depth of the pool was a tiny blue plaque on the ground. Not a family pool for kids to enjoy at all. The room was in desperate need of an upgrade. Paid $80 to replace the key...had no objections to that but David accused my husband of being "sneaky" and then hung up the phone. Would not recommend it for the price we paid. Location was great..close to beach and shops.

I anticipated a great stay at this property even before we arrived! At the time of booking, Joyce was an absolute delight to speak with. Friendly, warm and informative. Our week’s stay here saw us enjoying both David and Joyce’s same rapport with us and others, as per the initial phone call. The perfect ‘getaway retreat’ property for all staying here. Quiet, beautifully maintained in all departments with a great pool! Very importantly, the Port Douglas Retreat is all about Location! The main restaurant / shopping street, Macrossan is but a few short minutes away as is 4 Mile Beach and the Marina. We didn’t need a car given the above details. A shuttle brought us from the airport straight to the property. On checking out, we made use of a shuttle yet again. Given that we didn’t know anything really about the property other than what we’d read before coming, our hopes and expectations were fulfilled many times over. Will definitely be returning. Thank-you again David and Joyce.

Very peaceful, no young kids. Studio was spacious and clean, comfy bed and lovely pool. Price is amazing for its location. Suitable for couples or singles. Hosts welcoming and helpful. Would highly recommend

Lovely room, very spacious. Beautiful clean pool, staff are helpful. We arrived on Christmas day and they were there to meet us, lovely couple. You should rent a car, there are so many things to see in the area. Lovely private balcony. We would stay here again, great for couples, walking distance to the marina and the main strip. If you hit the rain though you need a car! BBQs are there for everyone to use. Safe and secure rooms, quiet at night which was perfect for us! Loved it!
