So sad this wonderful hotel has been let go. I was fortunate to have had a large comfortable bedroom, nice and warm and very passable. The beds definitely need new mattresses and the bathroom left quite a bit to be desired. Wasn't too clean, empty shampoo bottles left from previous guest. The food was good and plenty of it. The reception area and bars were very cold and uninviting, the big ballroom looked lovely but was very cold. All in all for the money I paid it was a good break. Would have been so much better if it had been warm and inviting.

Decent place to stay considering the price. Many reviews that highly praise this hotel sound a little drunk as nothing is amazing here except the location, which is very close to the station and (I think)the main high streets in Liverpool. Very easy access to lots of central places. Rooms were good(considering the price), everything in the room including the bathroom worked and the shower was actually quite good as well. Condition wasn’t great: little old, but seems to be clean though not clear from stains and what not on the walls. Also wasn’t very well lit in there, Guy working at the reception was very depressed and miserable, looking like he hated his job, his life, and everyone around him including me😊. He didn’t stop peaking at something at the other side of the room but fortunately the check in process was pretty easy. Hope they check on him( I think it was Oscar?) before he does anything harming. I had the breakfast that was surprisingly good. Good variety of fruits being the highlight, with the usual beans, pastry, cereal etc. didn’t have any other meals there though. To wrap it up, this place is great for a one (maybe even two) night stay, but definitely wouldn’t recommend for a nice vacation sort of thing nor a good time with the family. I suppose you get pay

This hotel is cheap for a city centre, but you really get what you pay for. On entering the hotel, the front steps were soaking wet and slippy. Reception was very cold. Staff were not pleasant and didn't exactly rush to process the long queue. The lifts had carpet on the floors which was dirty and covered in cigarette burns. The rooms were large and sparsely furnished. Drawer was broken and the sink in the bedroom was covered over with perspex. The carpet was stained and also had burns on it. The bed was okay. We were wakened in the morning at 6.45 am with the noise of pipes clanging. The bathroom was freezing with the window half covered with a shower curtain!! The hot water was scalding from the tap. The bath enamel was all stained. The food was okay but there was always a long queue. They ran out of cups several times and people were carrying hot tea/coffee across the dining room in paper cups. Coffee was instant in sachets. Food was not replenished fast enough to keep up. They need to hire more staff!! The toilets in public areas were stinking of urine. We complained but they were still the same for days. It was advertised as having 3 bars. Only one was open and there was a long queue every time we went in. They served afternoon tea in a large, grand room just beyond reception, but it was too cold to sit in. The fitness suite and pool are also closed indefinitely. This may have been a lovely hotel in the past, but it certainly is not lovely now. Won't ever be back.

Very old historical hotel but need more works to be done to facilitate the guests such as below all these area and need of replacement 1. All the bed mattresses and most of the beds. 2. All the lights. 3. Carpets. 4. Cupboards. 5. Door locking system, most of them are not working first place with the key they provide(RFID). 6. All the slow moving staff. 7. Quick customer servicing systems. 8. Smell not good the hotel, not good for breathing. 9. Keeping as historical hotel, should keep up the inside of the hotel hygienic rate. 10. And they are collecting the credit cards details separately if you are going through with the booking.com reservation. 11. Because of the hygienic issue I didn’t book the breakfast may be the same rate I will provide. 12. I thought it’s bit cheaper for the price at the day I booked, but Because of the hygienic they are charging as it is, but namely they are keeping the traditional & historical 😀. 13. I stayed near this place for the same price at very nice hotels but they are small in number of rooms, may sold out soon, but this hotel have around 300 rooms, so they will selling it at accordingly, 14. Not much to happy about overall!!!☺️

Stayed for a week on a coach trip to Liverpool. The architecture of the public rooms is wonderful, high ceilings, chandeliers, classic columns. It is an old hotel with history but our room was acceptable with a comfortable bed, easy chair, secondary glazing, tea and coffee. The bathroom appeared to have been refurbished recently, instant hot water, large bath with good shower, plenty of towels and toiletries. The dining room is buffet style and both breakfast and dinner had good choices, were hot and available. The hotel is close to the station and an easy stroll to the shops and bars, and on to the waterfront area. The hotel has lots of fuction rooms and this leads to large parties which are noisy in the corridors and create disturbance. All in all as part of a reasonably priced package it is good value and a different experience to a boring chain hotel.

A beautiful hotel that would be 300 a night if it was 1. In London 2. Was maintained well 3. Didn’t have drug addicts there The architecture is amazing. The ballroom is amazing. If they invested any money into the place would be amazing but they don’t. Costs nothing to stay there As my granny would say “you get what you pay for”

Contrary to belief this is a wonderful nostalgic hotel with oodles of character! It’s a grand old building which is huge! Yes it needs some money spending it on it but I found quite charming. The rooms are big, it’s clean and the staff are friendly. Be aware though if you’re rocking up late there’s a ‘Posse’ of bouncers on the door. Not the best welcome if I’m honest but they are there to stop none guests stumbling in…and they do! Breakfast was ok, nothing amazing just ok! Usual buffet style with plenty on offer! I will return

Service is solely for the one lady doing housekeeping on 6th floor during my stay. She was lovely and helpful. Let me into my room when the key card didn't work on the second occasion. Commented on the smell- which I could not clear with the window constantly open. The desk staff were disinterested. The only good thing really is the location. Saying its dated is an understatement. The room actually had a thick layer of dust on door frames. The sink in bathroom looked like it was worse than a second hand one. Sealing around bath was coming away, there was no room light just two lamps. There is no plug near bed everything is hard-wired into sockets. Lastly you could tell room was damp as wallpaper behind radiator was coming away. It's adequate to stay for ease of location but expect nothing more!

I have stayed overnight there. I wanted a quiet place near my exam venue. It was a completely suitable place. It's in the city centre's area, the train station was just within walking distance 7 minutes away. The venue was quiet, was able to do my study. It also has breakfast and wifi available. Though I haven't used the breakfast service. The room was clean with basic facilities like a hair dryer, toiletries, coffee and tea + kettle, it was summer days so fan was available too. I liked their service, I forgot my phone charger over there and they have very politely posted to my address safely.

The architecture of the public rooms is wonderful, high ceilings, chandeliers, classic columns. Booked a twin room for a night out and was only in it as a place to sleep, but even then I was disappointed by several aspects: The doors and fixtures were chipped and damaged, the bathroom hadn't been painted in year. Walls are paper thin and could hear other people talking, snoring. Expected much more for £47 a night, have had better hotel stays for that price. So sad this wonderful hotel has been let go. The beds definitely need new mattresses and the bathroom left quite a bit to be desired. Was all clean, exception towels. The reception area and bars were very cold.

Awful, dreadfully crumbling hotel. From the outside it looks dirty and in need of a clean. Inside the very tired dated interior reception area, lobby and uneven stairs to the dated giant lounge area. The one lift was broken only one tiny one in use. The stairwells were dirty along with the windows. Beer bottle left on stairs. The hallways smelt a horrible dampness, the rooms were terrible, old fashioned broken furniture, no phone no electricity points by the bed which had a rock hard very lumpy mattress on top of plywood. Showers that were from the 1970s that did not work, cracks in both bathroom and bedroom. Old LCD TV that was hanging loose on bracket. Restaurant was not open only the bar area that smelt of damp and the bar staff who couldn’t care less about dirty tables. The breakfast was truly dreadful too, the hot serving containers were cold, plates for the food cold therefore the food was cold. Hash browns were overdone to a crisp and the coffee was a very cheap brand that you get bulk buy in the catering trade. The noise from the pubs close by will keep you awake along with the shouting from the corridors. Do not stay at this hotel unless you are desperate and have absolutely nowhere else booked if you want pure totally cheap as chips with no style & quality. This hotel Needs to be totally refitted and updated - gone are it’s glory days! Take it off the review sites it’s past it’s prime even back in the 70s!!

I loved my stay. The public areas are kept in pristine condition. Lovely buffet restaurant . The food was always hot. The queues for the evening diner were very long. Lots of plush areas to sit. An American bar and the Wave was a pub bar. However the rooms are very tired. Paint on mirrors, no loo roll holder, no handle on the bathroom door. Having said that, the room was clean with fresh white sheets on the bed. It was well worth the price of the room. I loved the 1900s decor. Every member of staff we came across was very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

Had a lovely stay (5 days). 6th floor room overlooking the city, experienced wonderful sunsets. Food...variety excellent, well cooked, well presented and constantly replenished (hot buffet). Staff in constant attendance, friendly and professional. Can't really fault anything apart from the impression that rooms were sorta being let on an hourly basis if you know what I mean. It's a beautiful hotel with so much grandeur and history. Loved it!

Beautiful hotel, with some lovely staff except for the one rude one who we rang as the room was too hot. We rang and asked for the heating to be turned off, but we were ignored so had to ring back several times and had our numbers blocked. In the end, we had to go to reception to request it to be turned off there, in person. Understandably they were very, very busy but to wait almost two hours was a bit of a joke! The room was ridiculously HOT!!! They had private events which led to massive fights outside the main doors. The bouncers dealt with this quickly and efficiently. It just affected our sleep as it wasn't just one fight, it was a couple which led to the police arriving to resolve the issues. The private bar and public bar are beautiful and the staff are so kind and attentive. Can't thank them enough for being so helpful. The rooms are beautiful. So spacious and grand with all the modern bits and bobs needed for a lovely stay. They are very clean too and the beds are very comfortable. The cleaning staff in the morning were very kind and let us hang around a little bit longer to pack up as we didnt get much of a sleep and woken up late.😁

Couldn’t fault the stay. Room was spacious, fairly clean so felt at home. Room was airy due to the draft from the window but there’s nothing worse than being hot when sleeping. The constant load notices around 2am didn’t bother me because again I like sleeping with background noise. An added bonus was the cocktail bar within the hotel which offered a wide variety of cocktails including Stella, carling and strongbow. Highly recommend

Hotel in process of decorating and the carpeting rooms. Myself and friends stayed on 1st floor, our rooms were fine. Bathroom clean but in need of renovation. Can't really complain at price paid. Reception and hotel bar, all good.

Always a great stay. Excellent customer service from all the staff. Large clean rooms and a fabulous location, close to Lime Street Station and the centre of Liverpool. The hotel has so much history which is worth reading about. Don't check out without wandering the floors and looking around! Breakfast is an added bonus 😊

Paid £142 for a Saturday overnight stay with granddaughter. Location great, staff on reception were helpful and breakfast was good. Bedroom was dated, but I loved it. Bathroom was a let down, the enamel was flaking off the bath and could have cut our feet if we had showered. The sink was huge, so that was used. View from windows not nice, lifts were a little small considering the amount of people staying and the mirror lined wall was smashed and had a piece of cardboard covering it. The smell of urine as you get out on the ground floor, was strong. Loved the ballroom, chandeliers and decor, though didn't spend a lot of time there. Car park was an additional £13 and it had been raining on the stoney and muddy ground, not good underfoot, bit slippy and our footwear.. ..well, we were glad to get in the car. The car park is uphill also which was a good workout. Overall, a bit pricey for what we got, but I have always wanted to stay there, so it's one off the bucket list. Shout out to (I think he was called Scott) the guy on reception 1st October 2023, who was not only cheerful and helpful, but took over the care of a young very drunken man and kept him safe and got him to his room in one piece. 👍

Staff are helpful and friendly even when busy, Food was reasonable. Room was clean and tidy if somewhat dated. Would have appreciated coffee tea milk and toilet paper being topped up daily, had to find a house maid and ask for top ups.

Very impressive communal areas but once in the lift to bedrooms it's disgraceful. Needs major money spent on all bedrooms bathrooms and other areas. Bedroom wasn't ready so had to go back later, bedframe broke when I got into bed and handy man had to fix. Double glazing had come off track so couldn't be closed to block out noise. The bathroom was dirty and the plastic curtain across the window was a shower curtain on a stretched wire. Didn't dare look at mattress or I wouldn't have used the bed. We didn't put anything in the strange wardrobe as they smelt. We had to walk past a storage cupboard that must have been flooded and the smell was dreadful. Food basic but plentiful and tasty, that is why I gave the rating 2 stars. Lovely American bar deco very impressive.

Rooms need updating as no plug sockets near mirrors to dry hair etc, also allowing ppl to run on corridors screaming and shouting at 3am to me isn't a great look. Rooms were we're a good size and location good but definitely needs upgrading. Can't complain about breakfast that was great

The hotel was extremely dated . We were put on the 6th floor as we walked along the corridor to our room I could smell drains . Opened our room door and the smell was awful yes drains windows were open all through our stay and smell was still there . Shower wall had a hole in like someone punched it . Sink was all battered definitely needs replacing . Staff on arrival checking in were so slow and miserable. The room was clean but beds and pillows were so uncomfortable. The location of the hotel is the only positive as its around everything we wanted to visit . I wouldn't return to this hotel . Cant comment on the food as we ate out . The Hotel was very quiet cant hear the clubs etc

Love this hotel. People slate it but we've never had a bad experience and we stay regularly. It is beautiful inside. The ceilings in the halls on first floor are amazing. Yes it's old and the rooms could do with new carpet and a fresh lick of paint but it's a listed building and rules apply as to what you can do. It is too pricey and I honestly don't think it's worth the price on weekends especially. We wait until the price drops to stay there. Britannia need to reassess their prices.

Very central. Prices were put up for students coming to uni. The room was good and clean. Can't comment on services as just stayed 1 night. The staircase was beautiful. Car park was £13 for a 24-hour period. I feel it should have been free. There were plenty of other car parks close by for a lot less, but I didn't know at the time

Don't forget to use HotelDuIIy.ᴄᴏm when booking a hotel. They compare hundreds of booking websites and typically will have rooms much cheaper compared to others! Thank me later! This hotel is one of the most well known in this area. I have been staying here for years. If you decide to stay here you won't regret it. Nostalgic quirky full of original features. The grand lounge is stunning. Rooms are clean. Nice deep old baths!! Takes you back in time.

I wouldn't be original in saying it's like the hotel from The Shining, but it is. Thankfully I only needed to stay one night as I found availability at another hotel for the other days. Reception staff work at a snails pace, so queues build up. The twin room (2 beds) was the size of a cupboard. The beds were pushed together then in the corner against the wall so they could fit in a wardrobe, which mean the only way I could get into my bed was to climb into it from the bottom! The heating was broken and the aircon was either non-existent or broken (I couldn't tell which as the knob on the wall wouldn't work), so the room was around 28-30c all night, I thought I was going to pass out at one point. The bathroom hasn't been updated since the 1960's. All of the windows have a 'coating' over them so you can't see out, so imagine the claustrophic feeling when you're in a glorified broom cupboard, roasting hot and have no way of seeing out or opening a window! There was NO WAY I was going to use the kettle, the cups look like they'd been cleaned with a damp flannel. The hotel was fully booked so couldn't get a different room. The second I woke up early, I pulled on some jeans and checked out immediately. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this Britannia Hotel and it's quite sad so see such a beautiful building be neglected, some decent high end hotel chain needs to buy it and revamp it back into something amazing and grand like it would have been years ago. In conclusion, pay £20 extra and head to the Premier Inn round the corner.

Floor was dirty, found pizza under the chair. The bed was so uncomfortable, rock hard! We could not sleep properly, smoke alarm went off around 5:30am. We was meant to stay for 2 nights but ended up leaving early because of the bed. Only good thing was the location, we wouldn't stay again.

We love coming to Liverpool. We stay here because of convenience more than anything. If you arrive too early you can leave your luggage safely with the staff then leave The rooms are big (they do need updating) We couldn't open the windows for fresh air as it was very warm. Gladly, the staff gave us cooler fans. The breakfast is always worth paying for, as you can eat and drink as much as you like to set you up for the day. Stop moaning.......this an old hotel, it's cheap, and the beds are comfortable. If you want to criticise......there are some shockingly bad places at higher prices.

A hotel caught in a time warp ( possibly a great place for a Rocky Horror show convention). Lovely lounge with chandeliers and enough reminders of a bygone age where decadence and glam were more important than practicalities. The rooms are dated now but I can't even imagine how much it would cost to bring a place this size into the 21st century. In honesty, why would you. Big cast iron baths where you could lie back in if you choose to and rooms at a fantastic size. The hotel won't appeal to everyone, but if you can see past the dated look and appreciate the nostalgia, then you'll love it. It's also very reasonably priced.

Where do I even start… I would avoid this place at all stops, from entering the room I could instantly smell cigarette smoke and I noticed the fire alarm had been covered up which is a major fire hazard, we had no towels, no TV and two single beds even after booking months in advanced. The beds sheets were dirty and the bathroom didn’t seem like it had ever been cleaned. The staff were not helpful at all when complaining and came across very rude and unbothered when we approached them about our issues. After entering the hotel late at night we was approached by the security very passive aggressively to supply room keys and room numbers which we did with no problem. After entering the hotel we were chased down by one of the security being very aggressive towards us saying we have got our party size wrong as the rooms states they is only 1 guest staying in this room, which we explained that we are a party of 5 with 3 rooms after he realised we was right and had supplied the right room numbers he then walked off calling us ‘F****** Idiots’. This is disgusting and out of order to be verbally abused by staff and when we complained to reception they seemed unbothered again even though they could hear everything that was said. After speaking with the manager the next day we were told to write a complaint to the email she supplied and that they would be in touch to supply us with a full refund. It is over 2 weeks now and we have not heard anything back from them at all. If I could rate this hotel 0 stars I would. For your own peace avoid this place!

I didn't stay in the hotel. I attended an event here. The part of the hotel we were in was so grand. Exactly as you would expect from a big old hotel. The food we had as part of the event was really nice. Would give it 8/10. The service from staff was great. The location, right in the heart of Liverpool is handy for train stations, buses and cars.

Booked Adelphi hotel with Expedia for Sunday 3rd October 2021, but due to covid isolation rules could not attend the booking or had time to cancel booking that conformation only appeared on my phone at 1430 hours. Adelphi hotel still took £50 out my account and refused to refund me or offer me a voucher even though I never used their hotel on 3rd October.

Hotel looks nicer on pictures than in person. Hotel rooms are quite nice for the price, fairly clean close to city centre but the service and staff is bad. Our car got broken into on their own car park and they didn’t seem to care at all about it. Said they can’t do anything anyway and just brushed it off as nothing.

Incredible value for money. The staff did their best to be helpful but some of the systems don't work efficiently - lots of people had to get replacement key cards to get access to their rooms (me included). My room was big but the decor shabby. If the rooms were upgraded to the standards of the historic reception and lounges I would expect to be asked to stump up 10 times the money I paid. As things stand you get to stay in a historic and beautiful hotel in a slightly shabby, but large room (I suspect there are some better rooms too) for about 30 quid.

For £39 per night, this hotel exceeded my expectations! The interior of the hotel communal areas, such as the lounge, is really beautiful. The room was reasonable. Many reviewers have noted the decor needs refreshing and there's much truth to that. The desk in the room was worn, a light bulb was out, the headboard was loose, and the decor was dated. That said, the room was spotlessly clean and the furniture was functional - the bed was comfortable, the drawers opened, and so on. The hotel was also very quiet so I slept well. I think there's room for improvement - and clearly the hotel is gradually investing in that - but under £40 to stay in a beautiful Edwardian building in the heart of Liverpool (just 10 minutes walk from the Dock) is extremely good value for money, even with the need for a little investment. Something that's also good is that the hotel has a doorman on at night to provide extra security and peace of mind as the city center can get a little rowdy. The only thing that put me at unease is that the hotel car park doesn't seem very secure. Car park reviews in the general area reveal issues with cars being broken into. To mitigate this concern, I opted to park at the Liner Hotel car park a short walk away as that has extensive CCTV, is manned, and is locked from 11pm. They only charge £5 per day. I'd definitely visit the Adelphi hotel again -- but I think I'd continue parking elsewhere until their own car park is made more secure.

Beware!! Photos are just for advertising.. What a Shame to an iconic building, it’s the worst hotel I've ever been in my entire life ! Apparently they don't care about customers complaints! This place need everything to be refurbished from the entrance to the last floor, How much I will buy it and fire all management team, You don’t deserve it?! So smelly because of the old carpet that probably hasn't been a hoovered in decades, rooms are smelly, cold, I will erase my stay in it and never ever at 100% do not come back again .. ever again !!

A magnificent building but it has been left to deteriorate over the years. Poor management, the lifts are always broken, the rooms are old fashioned and the bathroom is like something from the fifties. If you want to experience the hotel from the shining then this is the place to visit.

Room had a really bad odour. Room was freezing cold and management couldn't warm the room up cos the boilers are on a 3-hour on/off routine. Request for portable heater was refused. Paid £100 for the night, and the only good thing about my stay was the friendly and welcoming security team on the entrance

I wasn't expecting much at all, based on the many negative reviews, but our stay was great. Very clean and friendly staff!! There was a hairdryer, iron, ironing board, and complimentary toiletries. The shower had good pressure and was hot. The only thing is that the decor is dated. I would definitely stay here again.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Beautiful building in dignified decay and large bedrooms with high ceilings. Check-in was painfully slow and despite booking directly with the hotel on the basis of a "bed and breakfast" rate, I was told after paying that breakfast was not included. So just be aware that when Brittania say bed and breakfast, they mean that you have to pay for breakfast. I was too weak to argue. Also please note that WiFi means only 20 free mins. I can understand these things as it must cost a lot for Brittania to run a hotel of this size especially with the pandemic, but I wish they were just a bit more honest about costs when booking. It is still a lovely building and good location.

The staff were very friendly and the architecture is great. However, it was very dirty all they do is wash the floor with antiseptic everything else hasn't been touched in months. Cigarette burns in the carpet, lumpy mattress, the food was awful. I really feel for the staff. It was just bad. Which is very sad. It doesn't matter it's old and worn, but it should be clean. I have seen cleaner lifts on council estates. The hotel was full of drunk people, broken glass, just awful. The water pressure was so erratic, you go from being splashed head to toe to it turning itself off and back again. A spring clean doesn't cost a lot and this building deserves better, especially as it wasn't cheap either. You can get much better B&B for a lot less money

It's very old and needs some TLC but what a beautiful nostalgic experience. The rooms are huge and the bath was really big. The water is so soft I almost drowned in bubbles. I really good place to stay for z night and then spend the day exploring the city.

Advertised as accessible but the lifts were all broken. Managers stories changed from 'We are waiting for an engineer' to 'Engineer is here fixing it' then back to 'We are waiting for an engineer'. Came across that there was no attempt to resolve the situation. Ended up being lead through the kitchen which looked dirty. Corridors were dirty and had not been vacuumed and the smell was disgusting. Definitely not a professional location. Only positive was the free parking for blue badge holders in the NCP across the road.

Great value for money, room a bit dated and would have liked a shower, but biggest bath I've had. Meals good and bottle of good wine for £10 in the restaurant. Great location, 5 minutes from train station. It gets bad reviews but it was the best value I've ever had. Lounge area is spectacular. Staff friendly especially in the restaurant.

Loved this place I don't think it's been given enough credit.. we went with low expectations and we were pleasantly suprised.. 2nights for £82.. the bar was good priced and the staff were helpful and friendly.. I can't wait to go back again

This is an old old hotel. Our room was very simple why no refrigerator? The location is perfect you are minutes from 2 railway terminals. Minutes from the noise of the pubs and of the Mersey. Showers are great beds are a bit hard and the staff we spoke to were very uninterested in talking to us. But if I did return to Liverpool I would stay here again just in an upgraded room.

I would not recommend this hotel at all. Upon arrival into the entrance the hotel looks grand and wonderful but you are also met with the horrendous smell of urine from the toilets which are poorly kept (toilets blocked, toilet roll all over the floor and toilets but very sparce when you actually need to use it!) And a long and constant queue for reception with staff who don't always greet you with a smile or friendly attitude. Thankfully the rooms were clean but decorated to a poor standard and in need of updating. We had to get both keys changed on two occasions over 2 days as they wouldn't work but still had to wait in the long queue at reception to get it changed. We didn't have breakfast here but we're glad as one morning we had just asked for a glass of water but the reply was abrupt and unaccommodating and we weren't allowed. Staff at McDonald's were much more friendly and helpful. The hotel could be magnificent as it has a lot of history and the main communal area looks very grand but management and staff need help. All I can say is that you get what you pay for but PLEASE just pay a bit extra and stay at the Holiday Inn which is just two minutes walk away. Location was great though 🤷

Very large hotel. Feels a bit dated and there are very long corridors to the rooms. The room itself was quite small and the bathroom was in need of updating. All in all it was adequate but not somewhere to stay for more than a single night. Reception staff were welcoming and friendly.

Visited for a line dance weekend. The room was spacious, but couldn't get the heating turned off in the bathroom and it was a very hot weekend. Ideally located for the rail station and town centre.

Absolutely criminal place STAY AWAY they took payment and then denied taking it even though it was shown on bank and basically said if you don’t pay again you can’t stay which left somebody on the street of Liverpool that travelled 2 hours on coach to get there. Staff have big mouths and think they are above everyone plus the place is disgusting and dirty anyway so probably worked out for the best as the place is absolutely DISGRACEFUL. Oh not to mention an incident that has now put them under investigation. Honestly if you read this and still stay you deserve the disappointment you will receive 100 percent

Parking is essentially an open lot at the rear of the hotel, back in the day this uses to be in a secure garage attached to the hotel down the side, now you have a good walk if it's raining. Beds are uncomfortable, half baked attempt to refurbish some rooms but beds and tiny 4'6" beds. Dinner option was very poor, breakfast just passable, Premier Inn does everything much better which is a shame considering the potential of this formerly Grand Old hotel. Britannia needs to take this hotel very seriously because it could be one of the best with a proper refurb, as it stands it's below par in every way.

Ideal location, multi story carpark across the road that charges £5 per 24hours not the £13 the hotel charges. The hotel entrance reception area looks beautiful, then you notice the dust holding the lights up and all the Mark's on the carpet and the mirrors are filthy. Going to the room the corridors are beautiful marble, but it needs cleaned again gorgous mirrors that are filthy, and nice pieces of furniture that have chunks missing out of them The room we had was a double. The bed was horrible, wooden headboard that has never seen polish, the carpet was all stained, the mirrors again were filthy. The windows are secondary double glazed, the window sills were mouldy and I mean black mould and the glass was filthy. The radiator had no controls to switch it on, the room was freezing. Tea making was provided but tea spoons must be extra because there was only a wooden stirrer. The bathroom was a joy, the enamel was coming off the inside of the bath, the muck round the bath taps was shocking, the toilet bowl has never seen bleach it was terrible, again the filthy mirrors were present. Breakfast is buffet style it is a decent breakfast. But by the time you've had a night there you just want to leave quickly. It is a beautiful building with lots of original features, it needs alot of money spent on it to bring it back to what it should be.

Absolutely pathetic service. They don't accept cash and I was told that I would have to book online. The guy was very dismissive maybe because I was soaking wet. I was very annoyed as I told him my phone had died. He could of dealt with me in a better manner as I could of easily paid by card, although I prefer to pay in cash rather than stick to a cashless society. Liverpool is a no go area for me, I rather spend my cash elsewhere where I get a better service.

People often say bad things about this place. I didn’t stay here, only visited for a conference and, whilst, it is certainly a bit tattered round the edges, I would say that it is no more so than any 100 year old plus building is. Can’t comment on the rooms, but the public spaces are very impressive. The Palm Court in the centre has so much potential and could really be a standout space for them with investment. I think that’s really the thing here. There is much potential, but right now it’s all just a bit faded. It could be great. Does the location justify that? I don’t know. It is very central. It is very big. Meh. One for the investment committee I guess.

Visited this weekend as part of a coach trip. We were welcomed and staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is a fabulous piece of history and although rooms and communal areas had signs of age and wear and tear it was very clean and comfortable with good service and nice food. We will define visit again and the location was very central. Thank you

  • 4/5 Beth G. 1 year ago on Google
Very central which is good for the train station, bars and restaurants but also means it is noisy. Very large comfortable clean room. However we had to queue for around 20 mins to check in. No air conditioning. Toilet paper extremely cheap, thin and rough. Plastic cups in room, no glasses. Hairdryer is provided which is handy. Large sofa was nice. Good for the money! Baby cot provided.

The hotel was once the best in Liverpool, such a beautiful building with many original features. Sadly it's a bit run down now, certainly not what it used to be. But the staff are friendly and helpful

Very old hotel but some beautiful areas. I would say the rooms could do with an update but enjoyed my stay. Friendly staff and good food. I'd definitely return

  • 3/5 Shannon O. 2 years ago on Google
The reception area when you first walk in is stunning, although the queue to check in was manic and the staff seemed fed up. There definitely should’ve been more staff to check people in faster but it’s understandable with covid etc. Finally check in and the lifts were stopping and starting and could barely fit 4 people in at once, so we ended up walking 5 flights of stairs to our room. Finally we get to the room and the key card wouldn’t work and took so long to unlock. After nearly an hour, we’re inside! The rooms definitely need some TLC and it could be a stunning room if the decor was updated. A couple of things I wasn’t happy about was the bathroom and the hand towel being dirty and the window not shutting so you could hear everything going on in the centre until early hours. Not ideal for winter either when it starts getting colder, so that needs to be addressed ASAP. We only stayed for the one night so overall it wasn’t a terrible experience but could’ve been better for the price. Such a shame as this hotel has so much more potential!

I enjoyed my stay here. Dated but a lot of character, needs a coat of paint. Room was clean heated and water pressure great. Staff lovely and room facilities were good. Food good and room right at front of hotel so didn't miss out on the buzz if Liverpool's nightlife but didn't interfere with my sleep 😴.

Hotel needs decorated fully. Rooms small for a double room. No headboard on the bed the walls all marked with people's heads. Bedding just a very thin quilt just goes over the sides and no more, 2 pillows for2 people. Bathroom terrible edging broken off the shelf screws in the shelf rusty., shower curtain no screen. Rooms don't get cleaned daily after 3 nights bins had not been emptied no clean towels. .. £420 for 3 nights bed only two people. Furniture in room all very old fabric chair all marked. They take stag and hen parties very noisy. Dark brown carpets covered in food horrible.

Public areas are impressive at first glance but the whole building is run down and shoddy. Arrived with coach party. Reception was chaotic. Room was dirty, needed redecorating. Stains in sink and bath, plaster peeling, dirty sofa. Woodwork old and scratched. Draw front falling off. Towels and sheets were clean. Dinner was OK, breakfast good. Rose wine tasted funny and was sent back. Hotel had little atmosphere, it was sad and truly beyond help.

The staff are friendly and helpful and the hotel is right in Liverpool centre. The room where they have Afternoon Tea is based on The Titanic - gorgeous. The rooms need a bit of work but the hotel is so vast it would be just too expensive.

    • Hard Mattress • Hard Pillows • Cold Room (window panel missing!) • No Main light, very dark room (only 2 lamps) • No Towels • Rude Staff (Event/Catering & Bar) • No plug sockets next to bed • Dirty bathroom floor and uninviting bath… Overall the place was falling to pieces and wasn’t maintained, needs a good refurbishment and TLC… wouldn’t stay here again I’m afraid!

  • 1/5 Benjamin W. 2 years ago on Google
We were given a twin room instead of a double and charged for the privilege. We had to ask a dozen times for a remote control for the TV. When we finally got the promised hairdryer off them it didn't work. There was no proper shower just a hand held one over the bath that flooded the bathroom when it was switched on as there was no shower curtain or shower screen. We gave up on the shower and ran a bath but the bathwater was brown and gritty. Our room was clean so the housekeepers were obviously capable but they were quite clearly the only members of staff that were. We'd paid for the breakfast and it was rank. Most things over cooked so that all the flavour had been removed and the coffee was cold. We couldn't make a hot coffee in our room either as the only free plug socket left the kettle standing on the floor. Don't be tempted because it's cheap. You get what you pay for. It seems to be popular as digs for builders and there seemed to be quite a large population of homeless people staying there. Avoid this place like the plague - I'm sure they've got that lurking somewhere there too!

The bedroom was lovely it had obviously been recently painted. However, there was some easily rectifiable cosmetic issues in the bathroom. Some of the common areas of the hotel where stunning, very grand, other parts need some TLC. However, the reason it doesn't have a higher rating is because one window was heavily painted so it stayed open, the noise overnight was horrendous so I barely slept. I also didn't like the fact people stood outside the door at re rption to smoke. You had to walk through them to get out the hotel

Check in was a nightmare room very dated linen was shabby and old..needs a face-lift overall.. must have been beautiful in its day. Very rough clients. Lots of stags and hens.. bed was comfortable. Spoiled our trip.. won't be coming back..

Some of the reviews I read after I had booked were shocking so I really was not looking forward to my stay. However, it really isn't that bad. If your looking for a quiet break away then it's definitely not for you. It's the perfect location for the train and enjoying the night life. Rooms were very big and the bed was comfy. The hotel it's self is dated but with the groupon offer it was definitely worth it.

Don't forget to use HoteITully.ᴄᴏm when booking a place. This web site will compare thousands of booking websites and typically will have prices a lot cheaper compared to others! You're welcome :)! This resort is one of my favorites in this area. I've been coming here for years. If you stay for a few nights you won't regret it. Location is probably the best in Liverpool City centre. The hotel is absolutely massive and somewhat dated. Rather like the Grand hotel in Scarborough.

The location and price are absolutely excellent. Its a very old hotel with lots of history too. The staff were friendly and are trying their best. However you get what you pay for. Due to its age the hotel is pretty run down. Our room was large but the beds were hard, there was no shower and the toilet was very hard to flush.

  • 2/5 Rachel S. 1 year ago on Google
The Adelphi needs a lot of refurbishing the rooms are out dated, there was stains all over the carpet, the bed I could feel every spring, the shower did not work properly, there was a crack in the bath panel and the toilet cistern, I did not feel it was clean. The windows have slide along secondary glazing, I tried to close them to help shut out the noise but it literally started to come away in my hands as it was held in by the wire of the net curtain. On a plus the staff were helpful and polite, the breakfast was good and the location is central. I won't be staying again due to quality of rooms.

Not as good as previous Christmas party tribute weekend but I love the place.well fed and watered. Previous table service in banqueting suite. No comparison to buffet with no buzz at all. Unfortunately the heating wouldn't work and we were cold but well entertainment. Got a voucher from the tour company towards next break as compensation

Staff were not very welcoming, checking is late (4pm) checkout is early (10am). Apparently because of sanitation, but if you pay £10 you can check in early. Rooms were very worn out. Location is the best thing about this place and cheap for a city centre. Good enough for a short stop.

Went over for 36 hour trip to Manchester, and stayed in Liverpool. Service at front desk, friendly. Helped with bus information for next morning. Room, small and a bit dated. Basic enough. But it was clean. Tv worked. Bed, a little bit hard - but slept very well. Plenty of towels in bathroom. Shower pressure very good. Tea/coffee making available. There were some new pieces of furniture (bedside drawers) and room was hoovered and clean. No hassle at all. Location, bang in the middle of Liverpool - brilliant 👏 😊

The hotel looks fantastic from the outside, the grand lounge is a look into what this place would have been in the 1920s and 30s, I expect it was the place to be. With some investment this could really have the wow factor and become a good 4* hotel. It's mainly guests of stag and hen parties and refugees being accommodated from what I saw. Rooms are big and have grand original features. Bed was moderately comfy. The bathrooms are very very tired and dated. There's no aircon, you can't have windows open due to the noise so you sweat through the night. Cleanliness an issue, hairs on the floors and in the bath still. It's very cheap so you get what you pay for, could be once again an amazing hotel which is a shame.

A hotel of former glory and grandeur that's not really up to modern standards. But hey, I enjoyed that! Second floor room at the back and even though the window was open, we didn't hear any noise of the busy Friday night!

  • 4/5 Tony G. 1 year ago on Google
This hotel was perfect for what me and a mate going to goodison needed. Cheap room, which was pretty big, right in the city centre next door to the train station with car parking behind. Would I take my other half for a romantic weekend?, No. Was it good for our needs? Yes with all its idiosyncratic features.

  • 2/5 Mary K. 10 months ago on Google
Vanessa was the only polite and professional member of staff we encountered here, the rest were unprofessional and rude. One member of staff shouted at us to “get out of the way” when we were in a queue just like everybody else? Quite frankly he is lucky I didn’t hit him. The beds were the most uncomfortable things ever, felt like stone and I actually had a back ache for 3 days after sleeping on it. £90 for one night and I couldn’t tell you one good thing I got out of it. Ridiculous

The public areas of this hotel are amazing and maintained to a very high standard. The American bar is very welcoming as are the staff. The bedrooms however are very dated but clean enough. Location is excellent and has car park behind hotel.

  • 2/5 JLK /. 9 months ago on Google
Long review but I would suggest a read Never again 1. Arrival - the girl on Reception on Saturday 28th July in the afternoon (Vanessa I think,)was so sullen, rude and completely dismissive. If I employed her, I would suggest she work somewhere else as she obviously hates working at the Adelphi if her face and attitude are anything to go by 2. Lift - opposite Reception. Only one working for the whole weekend we were there. Hundreds of guests and one lift near Reception (there was another one further down past Reception) but it took so long for any lift to come 3. Room - so dirty. The carpet looked like something from a crime scene with stains all over it and old and tired and just really nasty. Net curtains and swag curtains look like they haven't been cleaned or changed in years 4. Bathroom - jet/jacuzzi style bath. The jets were full of brown gunk. These can't have been cleaned in months, if not years. The bath itself was marked, the plug was rusted and the overhead shower was covered in limescale. It was so bad that neither myself or my companion showered for the 2 nights we were there. There is NO privacy curtain in the bathroom, which means that, if you turn on the bathroom light, the block of flats directly opposite the bathroom window can see anything and everything going on in the bathroom. This is appalling - there HAS to be some sort of privacy curtain in a bathroom that is overlooked by others. Overall this is a beautiful hotel FROM THE OUTSIDE. The ballroom areas are old and tired. It's a shame because it's such a beautiful building but I believe it's trading on it's history and not for the quality of service it's giving to it's paying guests today
