OHSU and Doernbecher Emergency Room

Emergency room

😠 DONT COME TO THIS ER. THEY WILL LET YOU SLOWLY DIE IN THERE WAITING ROOM. while my boyfriend was trying to get treated they ordered x rays in places that weren't even near his pain. There was a man with failed brain shunt that they told him he would be helped around 2:30 am. Mind you that it's 9:05.... People often mention hours, waiting, room, told, emergency, staff, doctor, area, experience, wait,

DONT COME TO THIS ER. THEY WILL LET YOU SLOWLY DIE IN THERE WAITING ROOM. while my boyfriend was trying to get treated they ordered x rays in places that weren't even near his pain. There was a man with failed brain shunt that they told him he would be helped around 2:30 am. Mind you that it's 9:05. It's very likely that man won't survive or will have serious brain injury due to pressure build up. There was also a woman with failing organs that was also not being helped. Stay away from this ER at all costs

Extremely humiliating experience! I went to the emergency last night because I was having a miscarriage. I was told by my doctor to go straight to the E.R. I wish I never went here. I was left in the waiting room for hours. I had my miscarriage in the restroom. I told the front desk lady, how much longer because I lost my baby in their freakin toilet! She just gave me a pad and told me to hang on little longer. I was so embarrassed standing on the floor as I felt blood running down my leg. The waiting room was packed of people. Another nurse asked for my vitals and I explained what happen. I told her I wanted to leave so I can grieve at home. She took my IV off and I left.

Called ahead of time because the situation was dealing with someone with a BLEEDING DISORDER. They said they have the medication he needs and to rush right over, we get there and wait, and wait, and wait, until finally we find out it’s going to take 2+ more hours. We were told they had it when they absolutely did not. We don’t have a car, we went all the way out there for absolutely NOTHING. THANK YOU FOR NOTHING!! The nurses were incompetent and the doctor immediately got snappy when we tried to leave. Never returning, absolutely disgusted with my experience.

I give the OHSU 1 star and only because I got seen right away. I had a medical issue that needs surgery. had 3 doctors in the ER look at it and refer me to a surgeon to schedule surgery. I called to schedule and they want me to see another doctor in a different part of the hospital before even approving the surgery date. I called them out on this and they just laughed and said "We do whatever we can to make money". Absolutely garbage this healthcare system is. They don't seem to care if you live or die just about getting paid. I would go to another hospital that cares. Beware of this place!!!!

I have been to OHSU in the past with my son and had a wonderful experience got me in and out quick. But then last night I went because my boyfriend called the nurses line and asked some questions about the symptoms he was having needless to say they told him to go to the nearest emergency center immediately. Well we went here, and it's the worst ER I have ever been to. We waited about 5 hours before we left! Was there all morning. The waiting room was a filthy mess, and I was not comfortable waiting in the waiting room. Will not ever go back here! 1 star.

So you wouldn't think that I'd rate them 5 stars after my experience. I was admitted for 2 days and never left the ED. I was held and treated in hallways. I had a life threatening condition, with scary vitals. Yet, I stand amazed by the incredible, attentive care I received from my RNs, Abby, Sarah, Arlene and especially Miel. In the middle of chaos, they managed to ease my pains and concerns. Dr. Heather Hoops and other specialists communicated directly to me. I often knew things before the nurses did, but we figured it out. And I had a very vivid picture of what our hospitals have endured these last 2 years. They are the real heroes 👩🏼‍⚕️ ⚕️ (and they're all women ♀️

I'm not writing this with only one star because of the staff, they were great and I believe doing the best they possibly can in the environment they're given. They need to invest some more money into their emergency room facility. I had a traumatic injury which was subsequently sewed up and a job well done but once I was released at 4:00 a.m. in the morning and because they had no room anywhere. I was pushed out into the waiting area with only socks on my feet. People were lying on benches, chairs, floors, the smell of urine and vomit permeated the air as I walked to the restroom in which the door was broken would not lock. Some of the upholstery on the chairs and benches was torn and I thought I was in a third world country. I kept asking for something to put on my feet, they didn't have slippers or anything to give me since Mercy flights crew pressured me into leaving my shoes behind. I was given a small room in the waiting area which had no ventilation to speak of , was claustrophobic and I was supposed to sleep in a reclining chair that would only tilt back a couple inches, with the sound of the toilet flushing on the other side of the wall. I had to wait for my ride to come up from Medford Oregon a 5-hour drive I finally got somebody to pick me up and I had to walk out into the rain through the streets and parking lot in socks after having my skull fractured earlier that day with very little or no sleep. I believe the staff is overworked and working in a poor environment.

The ER was quite busy and I knew I would need to wait because my situation needed evaluation, but was not an emergency situation like many coming in were. I was cared for well at every step…the person who checked me in, the nurses, doctor, CAT scan person, the man Ken who was volunteering and brought me a warm blanket, the man who wheeled me for the scan, literally everyone, treated me professionally, kindly, and with skill in their arena of service. I was discharged with the confidence that the pain I came in with was not signaling something serious like inflamed organ or infection, etc, and could proceed to manage at home without worry about these things attached to it. Though the wait was long, it was understandably so and I was amazed to see the staff work quickly, kindly, and efficiently at meeting so many needs while I was there. Great job OHSU staff!

I’ve taken my partner here multiple times and everytime we come here, we’re treated like it’s not an emergency. We’ve been here for 5 hours today and my partners spine is collapsing. No updates. We asked the nurse (Ashley) to not put the IV in their elbow crease as they are having muscle spasms and they did anyway. It doesn’t help that the waiting room is freezing. They can’t walk and can’t feel their top half of their body and we’re receiving no help! Is there an emergency room in the area that actually treats emergencies as such!!?!?

This ED WILL KILL YOU. I was having a blood transfusion due to internal bleeding. I was overdue for my blood bags to be drained, IV Bag was empty, the machine behind me had been beeping for hours and well last due for my medication. I tried to tell multiple people - including a dark haired, fit women wearing super tight dark blue scrubs - she was so nasty to me. She told staff I was violent and throwing medical equipment- when I was literally on the brink of death hooked up to tubes and wires. She came back with a police officer who hovered over my gurney (which is was in for two days) and threatened me. She then called me a profanity, and lefts saying she wasn’t my nurse and it isn’t her problem. It was so traumatic. It wasn’t until I called my white male friend to come advocate for me was I taken to an actual room where I could finally shower and eat after three days. It was horrible. I’m scared of that place.

I have a chronic illness that flared up and went to this er. I waited 8 hours to see a doctor. Rooms are full, hallways are full. People put chairs together in the waiting room while they wilt away. There's little privacy and not much care given to patients who aren't bleeding out. I've had a pretty poor experience with ohsu across the board. Doctors don't return calls or messages. I was actually told to not come back and they wouldn't do anything else for me by one doctor. The er is filled with homeless and drug addicted. I needed about a month of care to get through my illness and it was a struggle doing so. I don't know if all er rooms in the area are this bad or not, but you're going to be waiting a while.

What a absolutely poorly run emergency department. Both times I have gone waited 4+ hours this last time never got past a nurse giving me gauze so I stop bleeding all over the waiting area. For being a major hospital they have the smallest most poorly run emergency department I have ever seen. Your better off going literally anywhere else

Second time at this ER and both times have been the worse care I have ever received at an ER. Bedside demeanor was horrible, plus hours and hours of waiting in the “patient check-in” even when I was driven by the ambulance for chest pain (with a history of a heart attack 2 wks ago at the age of 34)!! I’m still sitting here in so much pain and not one person has even let me know what’s going on. Don’t come here if you don’t have to.

From check in to discharge I spent a bit more that 4 hours there. During that time I had my history and vitals taken by a nurse, urine and blood tests done, plus US and CT scan. I spoke to a doctor a couple of times: to discuss the imaging indications and then, to discuss the results and treatment options. I believe that 4 hours is a reasonable time to make all those tests and procedures done, especially when the stuff is busy with other patients. Everyone was friendly, compassionate and respectful. The waiting room had enough sitting space for incoming people, I saw that the chairs were cleaned by a stuff at least once over there. I read all the prior bad reviews, and can tell that my experience was much better. Yes, you have to be prepared to spend several hours there, but it’s obvious that they try their best to help you.

Verbally threatened by the security guard for asking her to use a normal tone and treat another patient wjth respect. Lady called the cops and was super aggressive and tried to keep the argument going. Literally says on multiple signs say this "OHSU will not tolerate racism or discrimination of any kind" yet their security is trying to kick out patients because they can't answer her questions long enough? She didn't get dismissed nor did her supervisor come to chat. They will be receiving phone call also. Super infuriating when security violates laws trying to tell patients they can't be here. Ridiculous

While waiting in triage for 7 hours, we were finally admitted to the Emergency Room. At the 9 hour mark I let the nursing staff know someone was locked in the Emergency Room bathroom for an hour and was mostly likely shooting up. Multiple nursing staff did not seem very interested. There is a camera directly outside of this bathroom. I hope this incident is reviewed and they take corrective action. In addition, there is an alternate entrance to the triage area. This entrance does not have a metal detector, x-ray or security guard. One person in the triage waiting area appeered to have a bulge on the side of their right hip. Hopefully this was not a concealed weapon.

I am currently trapped in a back room of the ER with no ability to contact medical staff and have been IGNORED for hours. I had to drag the bed my IV was attached to next to the hall door to wave someone down to let me go to the bathroom. I have been here for 5 hours and have spoken to a dr for less than 3 mins hours ago and still have received NO CARE. DO NOT COME HERE. This place is damn near medically negligent.

A huge thank you to the pediatrics emergency team! You were all so respectful and nice to my daughter and I. Last night we came in with a possible broken arm. Turns out my daughter had a fractured elbow. They were overwhelmed with many sick kids but still managed to be caring and professional. Thank you for all you do 😊
