On Alberta street where there are so many food options to choose from, this one is definitely up there! Gumba is a hidden gem on Alberta. I didn't know much about it until my girlfriend told me about their incredible Wednesday Sandwich Day... traditionally I would call them an Italian/pasta joint with a twist, but this took them to the next level. Of course we went there on a Wednesday to have their famous fried chicken sandwich... probably one of the Top 10 I've ever had. Crunchy, flavorful, messy, and a kick of heat. Doesn't get much better. We also gave their burger and tater tots a try! Burger was a unique flavor... chicken definitely won that battle. Tots were awesome!! Eric, one of the servers was incredibly friendly and welcoming. He also hooked it up with some great fry sauce. Paired perfectly with the tots. I also think we were able to convince them to bring back their special Ruben sandwich on Wednesdays as well. You bet we will be back!! Went back as promised and got pasta and dessert!! It did NOT disappoint. Unique flavors and good service!!

The only complaint is that all three pastas that we ordered were too salty. The sauce, ingredients, vibe, service were all great. The seafood was fresh, the meat was plenty and well cooked. But again, too salty.

The homemade burrata and fry bread was very good. Excellent balance between creamy and salty. The amount of pasta in the mains is a little too much, so make sure you arrive hungry! Cocktails were okay. Service was nice, but spotty. Our wine arrived 10 minutes after we received our mains. My pasta arrived warm, the shellfish was cold.

Vegetarian Food Review: (I wish there was an option for 4.5) 1 entree option for vegetarians and Fry Bread with Burata. Delicious Food and the service was lovely. I tried the layered baked pasta for my main course. Did not try desert. Will do that next time and update review. Let me know what you all think.

This was just...ok. While the ambiance was cute and the service we received was great, the food at Gumba fell short for me. I'm kind of bummed about it because after reading all the positive reviews, I was really looking forward to spending some serious calories on their carb loaded menu. We ordered: Fry Bread with chicken liver mousse -- the fry bread was delicious and the mousse made for a great spread. The raisin things on the side that came with the mousse was just too sweet. We couldn't eat it and left it on the plate when we were packing up our leftovers. Squid ink spaghettini--my husband's choice for the evening. He said he really enjoyed this dish. I liked his meal more than my own because it was packed with some serious flavor. It was citrusy and refreshing. Pesto spaghetti with crab--on paper this pasta sounded delish. While the pesto flavors came through, the whole dish itself was very bland. It was just under seasoned. The pasta too was lacking and felt overcooked. I ended up not finishing the dish as I didn't want to spend anymore calories on it. Eggplant Olive Oil Cake--I've never had an eggplant cake before and I'm always down to try new things. This was surprisingly good! The slice we received was huge, big enough to share with 2 people. The cake was dense but moist. The eggplant was situated on top of the cake and the whip cream went well with it, I wish there was more of it.

Absolutely delicious!! Nothing beats homemade pasta. I had the papardelle pasta and the beef was super tender, the sauce seasoned well, and the pasta so fresh and delicious. We also shared an order of the fried bread with a homemade cheese dip with the table and that was great as well. The cocktails are great. I love how their menu is adjusted based on the season! I went on Halloweekend and the cocktails were all Halloween/fall themed. The waiter was super friendly and had so much knowledge about the food and drinks and the processes in which each are made.

It's always fantastic. Fall drink menu and part of the fall food menu are out. Bartenders, Yona with Matt, friendly and great conversation. John and Eric, great hosts. Food amazing. Another fantastic meal here!

Absolutely excellent restaurant. Cool vibe and atmosphere, super friendly staff. The food is just awesome. You are definitely paying more for it, but I wouldn’t say it’s expensive for what they serve. We started with the burrata, which honestly was like being transported to Italy - same quality I’ve had in Rome, which is to say, outstanding. Then we had a Caesar salad, which was not your regular salad, but you could certainly tell it was in the Caesar-vibe. Very interesting. We ended up sharing three pasta dishes - they were all really good, but the one prepared with squid ink was simply phenomenal, again, right up there with good Roman restaurants I’ve dined at. We could not try the desserts because we were stuffed, but I’m guessing they’re just as good. If you’re happy to pay a bit more for top quality food, definitely check out Gumba. You will not be disappointed.

The fact that I experienced this restaurant on THE perfect night for outdoor seating may influence my review. The staff is as you would expect in Portland, quirky, fun, inviting, and not at all afraid to shame you for not ordering one of the wonderful desserts on the menu. They serve authentic, so you should not be looking for Olive Garden-esque accoutrements. The atmosphere is laid back, but the service is still prompt and cordial. The food is quite wonderful, you will not leave hungry.

Absolutely some if the best food I've ever had. I can't stop thinking about the salt and acid balance of the marinara sauce on the lasagna. Incredible.

From the atmosphere to the service to the food and presentation, 5+ stars! Pasta is freshly made and it is chefs' kiss. If you can eat seafood, highly recommend the spaghettini - the creaminess from the butter and chili oil is balanced perfectly with a hint of citrus leaving you satisfied without a heaviness afterwards. The Tagliatelle carbonara style with burrata and olive oil does have a heavier afternote but a flavor you cannot miss out on. For starters, we had the beet salad with fry bread. The salad was a good balance to the pasta (light thanks to the whipped tofu ricotta) and the air pockets in the bread was amazing (excellent seasoning with rosemary garlic oil). Cannot recommend enough this placeenough!!

While savoring our pasta we were already discussing how soon we could return. Why did we wait so long to try Gumba? The interior screams personality with its vibrant wall paper and eclectic artwork. Thankfully you don’t have to scream to be heard; it’s a nice spot for conversation over a leisurely meal. There are two dining areas: the one you see immediately when you walk in, and a larger space toward the back where the bar is. The service is attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the calamari because it wasn’t fried; instead it’s a bit charred. The fry bread was piping hot and delicious with big cool spoons of creamy burrata. The beet salad and Caesar salads hit the spot. We also had the squid ink pasta, the short rib pasta, and the tagliatelle with duck confit. Generous portions, too. There are some tasty mocktail options for those seeking NA options.

Enjoyed a lovely NYE dinner here and everything from the ambiance to the high level of service was on point. We started off with the calamari which is prepared grilled instead of fried (which was delicious) and the burrata cheese with fry bread. The bread was almost like a sour dough with a fluffy center and wonderfully crisped crust. Being seafood lovers we ordered the squid ink pasta and the tagliatelle to add some richness to our meal. The pork meatball was very flavorful- the use of mint was ingenious! Absolutely 10/10 for your next Italian night.

This place was excellent! The fry bread with the spinach artichoke dip was fantastic! Their thick home made noodles was just what I was looking for when I ordered the pappardelle. The Fazzoletti with added sausage was a really good choice too. I'm glad I came, I'm sure you will be too.

The food here is AMAZING. Everything we ordered was fresh, vibrant, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was cozy and if you have the option, sit in the back, the wallpaper is beautiful.

Absolutely superb… a coworker and I made reservations for Gumba. After a long flight from Atlanta we were running late. We called the restaurant they let us change our reservation to 30 minutes later. John, the manager, came over to check on us and make sure we were great. The food was amazing, the ambiance as well. Will definitely be back when i visit Portland again.
